• How to prevent Windows from doing this

  I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit. This is my webcam. It is first time using this webcam in my pc. It's name is A4tech - PK-331F. When I plugged that webcam, windows start installing drivers automatically but unfortunately it installed wrong drivers. The drivers Windows 7 installed are Vimicro USB 2.0 PC Camera (Venus) and these drivers aren't related to this webcam. Now I did some modifications to windows so it isn't installing drivers automatically but whenever I plug that webcam but same name of drivers and doesn't install it. I think because of it, I can't install it's original drivers. I don't want Windows recognize this webcam with this name. How can I prevent Windows from doing this?.

• Does exportfs disrupt users already utilizing those filesystems?

  I need to modify a servers /etc/exports file to export to an additional host. After modifying this file, for it to take effect (i.e. for the additional host to have access to the designated filesystem), I believe I have to run "exportfs" on the server exporting the filesystem. Does this disrupt users who are currently using filesystems that are exported from that serving host? I'm hoping to add this new host "silently", without disruption. Any additional advice related to this, common traps, things to be careful of, etc. would be appreciated if you have any. • How do I turn off the click sound when closing a tab in chrome?

  Every time I close a tab in Chrome, it makes a click sound. How do I turn off that sound? I reported that issue back in Oct 2010. The problem doesn't appear on all clients and the reason is still unclear. Common attempts at solving the issue include simply turning off the sound in Windows. But I would prefer to solve the problem at the source. Why is Chrome even triggering that sound to be played? And why is it delayed? The problem would be far less annoying if the sound could easily be related to the action taken. Installing the Chrome Toolbox and muting all tabs has no effect on this issue. When switching to a different Chrome user profile, the new user profile does exhibit the same issue.

• Merge Publication Data Partition Snapshot generation

  I have a merge publication in SQL 2008 R2 with data partitions and I am wondering when I should generate the snapshots for the data partitions. I get an error sometimes when bringing a new subscribe online related to the partition snapshot being out of date and I am wondering if this has to do with the publication snapshot being scheduled at the same time as the partition snapshots. I'm not really sure how the partition snapshot gets generated, but it appears maybe it is getting generated before the publication snapshot. If this is the case how should I be scheduling the partition snapshots to get generated? Should I set them to run x number of minutes after the publication snapshot? this seems kind of poor to do in case the publication snapshot takes awhile or fails. It seems to me the publication snapshot should just run the data partition snapshot agents when it is done if this is the case.

• What is the pixel clock setting on my monitor actually doing?

  I am experiencing display interference on a dell 24" flat panel monitor.I find that if I adjust the pixel clock settings up or down in the monitor's on-screen menus, the interference goes away for a while. The monitor is attached to a Macbook Pro using a mini display to VGA adapter. I have found that in a different house, I get the interference problem less so it might be related to electricity supply or possibly even ethernet powerline (total guess). What does the pixel clock setting actually do and does this behaviour point to a likely cause of the interference?

• sudo suddenly stopped working on debian

  I've been using 'sudo ' since I setup my server about a week ago. It suddently stopped working with no explanation. I am in 'sudo' group. So there should be no config change required to /etc/sudoers $ sudo apt-get install tsocks [sudo] password for me: me is not in the sudoers file. root@host:/etc# groups me me : me sudo The only thing it could possibly be related to was I added the following line to sshd_config: PermitRootLogin without-password But I have since changed that back to PermitRootLogin yes Permission on file is 400: ls -l /etc/sudoers -r--r----- 1 root root 491 Sep 28 21:52 /etc/sudoers No idea why it stopped working, or how to fix it.

• Wrong chrome full screen resolution with multiple displays

  I am using Google Chrome on Windows 7 64bit with two displays. The displays have different resolutions and aspect-ratios. My problem is best visible when playing back full-screen videos from a flash player inside chrome (but it is not flash related). The maximum size is calculated from the primary displays' resolution, even when the relevant window is maximised on the second screen. The problem is also visible on websites that set the width to 100%. The 100% then apply to the primary display, even when the window is opened on the secondary display. Are there any known solutions to this problem? I am observing it since many Chrome versions, do not know if it has been ever correct.

• How to disable text overwrite mode in Netbeans (CentOS)?

  Everytime I type some text, it is overwriting what I have typed. I assume that the mode is set to overwriting, I want to insert the text not overwrite it, but I can't disable it because my insert key is mixed up with my delete key so everytime I enter insert to disable the overwrite mode, it just delete what I type. So how to disable this? I'm using centOS.. and it seems that my problem is only related to Netbeans because when I type here, it is set to insert mode.. but in Netbeans, it just overwrites the codes! help!

• How to restore default iPod playlists on Amarok?

  I wanted to "reset" the collection on my iPod and ended up accidentally deleting, through Amarok, all the playlists, including the default ones like "Most Played" and "Highest Rated". Since these are dynamic playlists with a special meaning for iPod, I don't think creating new, normal playlists with the same name will bring their special behavior back. How do I restore them with the same dynamic functionality? Is there a way to do that on Amarok? Rhythmbox? GTKPod? Command line? P.S.: not entirely sure what the policy about iPod questions are, but this one in particular seems to me to be very computer-related because, although it's about interfacing with a device, everything has to be done on my computer, using standard PC libraries/programs, etc. If it's still off-topic, please point me to where I could post it.

  I have a local host server hosting a few applications in tomcat which comes through a apache proxy The client or User trying to access these application has to access them like 10.XXX.XXX.XX:8080/appName OR 10.XXX.XXX.XX/appName But I want to replace the ip address with soem other name related to my applications. But I cannot go and enter the host name of the server in each users /etc/host Nor do I want to be setting up DNS. Is there another way to do this. • HP laptop won't recognize wireless adapter

  I have an HP Pavilion dv6400 series laptop with an NVidea chipset which is the subject of a class action lawsuit. The symptom (PDF) that I'm experiencing is that the system fails to recognize that there is a wireless adapter installed. It doesn't appear in Device Manager. Is there some way, short of installing a new adapter, that I can work around this problem? The system is running Windows Vista Home and has the latest BIOS (F42) and Windows updates and drivers. • Can I remove a RAR file's (known) password without recompressing the archive?

  Long title. Anyway, I haven't been able to find an answer to this question. I know the password to the RAR file, I locked it myself, but now all I want to do is remove the password because it's too much of a pain in the butt to type it in every time. Is there a way to do this in WinRAR or an equivalent program? The only thing I knew to do was to extract it, then create a new RAR without the password. It's not a life-or-death issue, but it would be nice to know. Thanks for your time! EDIT: I just saw a bunch of related questions that appear to ask the same thing. • Apache ProxyPass/ProxyPassReverse to IIS

  We have an ASP.NET web application which is mapped to a folder on an apache hosted php site using ProxyPass.ProxyPassReverse. A couple of problems being encountered. cookies are being lost which breaks the site navigation, this can be overcome by setting the asp app as cookieless. Forms authentication is used on the ASP site, this is also broken withe the proxypass in place, suspect this is cookie related also. ASP site works ok when run from a domain/ip address. Use of a separate domain / sub-domain is not an option duew to client requirements.

I did not see any mention of promiscuous in any of the config files (sudo grep -r promis /etc) Any ideas what puts the interface into that mode and why? p.s. most of the posts I see seem to be security related, this is not that

• Firefox loses app tabs when I shut down my computer sometimes

  When I shut down my computer sometimes my app tabs do not reopen in Firefox and I need to remake all of them which is pretty annoying. I don't know if this is a common bug it might be specific to my computer. I run Vista x64 and it just seems to still have quite a bit of problems. Sometimes when I command it to shut down it does not simply showing shut down loading for hours so I need to manually turn it off. I think that might be messing up Firefox but I'm not sure. I also found a related thread on Bugzilla about this problem but I don't think it's the same issue as it only happens when I shut down my computer.

  Related to my older question: Get xp product key from boot Thanks for the help on that one. So, in the end, i couldn't get into my harddrive because i didn't have the available hardware to hook it up to another computer to get the old activation key. So, instead, i entered another activation key (i know, naughty) in hopes that there would be a way to retrieve the old one, restore point or something afterwords. What legal ways can I get xp re-activated after a repair when I don't have any record of my activation key? for those who think im just trying to crack it, your wrong: Got a virus, which stopped me from getting into windows Got AVG Anti Virus, which stopped me from getting into safe mode Got a 2 year old, who decided to rip-off and chew my activation sticker on my computer (nice one). Repaired windows installation thinking i wouldn't be asked to re-enter the activation key, to find that i was.

• BSOD after PC has been running for a while

  I'm having a problem where my computer is getting a blue screen. I have noticed that the BSOD happens after the PC has been running for about 2 days. The BSOD's seem to be an error with atikmpag.sys with an error code of 0x00000116. The problem started about a month ago.It has happened all five times that I left my computer on that long in the past month. Because my computer is a pre-built one from Dell, and I had upgraded the graphics card (at least a year ago) to a more demanding one, I replaced the stock 360W power supply that came with it. I replaced it with a more powerful, 680W one, because it seemed like the problem could be related to a lack of power supply wattage, but it didn't affect the problem at all. • Why can I not access any file or directory created by PHP from FTP-client?

  Hello there, If I create a directory with mkdir(), or create a file with fopen(), file_put_contents() or SimpleXMLElement::asXML(), I am unable to access the file with my FTP-client or c-Panel File Manager. If I try to delete or edit them, I get errors. Dreamweaver suggests it is a permission problem or a network or filesystem fault (but I've set the permissions with chmod() to 0777, and when I check the cPanel, it confirms chmod 777. I also tried to use fileowner() and the function returns int(99), the same owner as those files that I could access with my FTP-client. It seems files and directories created with PHP can only be modified or be deleted with PHP. I thought this must be a server setup related issue, so I write it here. • Laptop changes resolution when the lid is closed/opened

  hi i've had a problem for the last couple of days where the resolution on my laptop changes when i close the lid i'm running windows xp professional sp2 on a dell inspiron 1501 the video chip is an ati radeon xpress 1150 according to the catalyst control center software i've got installed which i think came with the drivers or something i've seen this happen before but i installed an old game called road rash a couple days ago after seeing it mentioned on reddit and i'm wondering if it might be related anyone know how i can stop this from happening? i have a workaround where i can manually change the resolution to something else and then change it back but that's a lot of work to do every time i close the laptop which is a lot thanks!

I first solved this by using the CACAO virtual machine (of OpenJDK, by putting it first in jvm.cfg), but then I run into problems with my web application (Play! framework based, gives me nasty LinkageErrors). • Logging violations of rules in limits.conf

  I am trying to log the details of the programs that where failed due to the limit cap defined in the limits.conf. My initial plan was to do it using the audit system. The idea was to track the system calls related to limits in the limits.conf that where failed. However the problem with this approach is that , it is not possible to track the violations of cpu time, since that violation do not involve failure of system calls. In the case of CPU time , one thing happens is that the program which violated the cpu time will be delivered a SIGXCPU. So my question is how should I go about logging the programs that violated CPU time? Also is there any limits.conf specific logs available?
