  • Problems with mod_rewrite and 301 redirects from one dynamic url to another

    - by user349891
Hey all, I'm having all kinds of problems with a bunch of apache redirects just now and could really use some help! I'm wating to put in a 301 redirect for a load of urls from a client's old site to their new site in the following format; Old - page.php?pageNum_rs_all=0&totalRows_rs_all=112 New - page/sub?foo=bar The values in the query sting for the old site don't in any way tie up to any ids or references on the new site, I only want to match that specific request and redirect to the new page. It feels like I've tried just about every combination of rewriterule I can find online but still nothing seems to be working. This is running on Apache 2.2. The rule I started with (and keep going back to) is; RewriteRule ^/page.php\?pageNum_rs_all=0&totalRows_rs_all=112 /page/sub?foo=bar [R=301,L,NE] Any help would be greatly appreciated! c.

  • Virtual directories as DB queries

I have a site, e.g. site.com I would like users to be able to access it in their locale at site.com/somecity This is similar to craigslist, but they do it with subdomains e.g. sfbay.craigslist.org Using Apache HTTP server. MySql for DB. If you can provide a brief explanation and perhaps links to more thorough discussions, I would be quite interested in learning. I'm developing a web-app and wonder if I should focus some time to read up on Apache, or should I focus more of my time on server-side programming. Thanks!

  • Apache HTTPD as a proxy

    - by markovuksanovic
I need to redirect all the requests from localhost:8080/app1/ to localhost/app1. which is the best way to do it. The only requirement is that the user must never be aware that he is accessing the application at port 80. i guess I need to set up Apache HTTPD proxying - I'm just not sure which is the best way to do it. Thanks in advance.

  • mod_rewrite and relative urls

    - by Davide Gualano
I'm setting up some simple url rewriting rules using mod_rewrite and a .htacces file, but I've got some problems. If I set up the .htacces this way: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule /index.html /index.php [L] when I call from the browser this url: http://localhost/~dave/mySite/index.html I got a 404 error. Using this .htacces instead Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule /index.html http://localhost/~dave/mySite/index.php [L] everything works fine and I get the index.php page I'm expecting. Am I forced to user absolute urls as the target of a rewrite? Is this a Apache configuration problem? I'm using Max OS X 10.6.2 with its standard Apache installation.

  • Apache rails beta site access solution

    - by par
I'm building an ror site and have been asked by to put a temporary access restriction on it. All that's needed is a general access restriction and common access info which can be emailed to invited beta users. The site is deployed on an apache server (on a mac) using passenger. I'm wondering what solutions there are?

  • Django AND .htaccess rewrites/redirects, is this possible?

    - by Infinity
Is it possible to have Apache htaccess rewrites take effect before it hits django? For example so I can redirect iPhone users to a completely different domain without even hitting django. We're using apache2 with mod_wsgi and the apache vhost looks like this: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /usr/local/www/site/static Alias /css/ /usr/local/www/site/static/css/ Alias /js/ /usr/local/www/site/static/js/ Alias /img/ /usr/local/www/site/static/img/ Alias /flash/ /usr/local/www/site/static/flash/ <Directory /usr/local/www/site/static> AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> WSGIDaemonProcess mallorca-site threads=15 WSGIScriptAlias / /usr/local/www/site/config/dev/dev.wsgi </VirtualHost> Thanks

  • How do I know if my PHP application is using too much memory?

    - by John
I'm working on a PHP web application that let's users network with each other, book events, message etc... I launched it a few months ago and at the moment, there's only about 100 users. I set up the application on a VPS with ubuntu 9.10, apache 2, mysql 5 and php 5. I had 360 Mb of RAM, but upgraded to 720 MB a few minutes ago. Lately, my web application has been experiencing outages due to excessive memory usage. From what I can tell in error logs, it seems the server automatically kills apache processes that consume too much memory. As a result, I upgraded memory from 360 MB to 720 MB as a stop-gap measure. So my question is, how do I go about resolving these outage issues? How do I know if my website's need for more memory is due to poor code or if it's part of the website's natural growth? What's the most efficient way to determine which PHP scripts consume the most memory?

  • Python/Django: log to console under runserver, log to file under Apache

    - by Justin Grant
How can I send trace messages to the console (like print) when I'm running my Django app under manage.py runserver, but have those messages sent to a log file when I'm running the app under Apache? I reviewed Django logging and although I was impressed with its flexibility and configurability for advanced uses, I'm still stumped with how to handle my simple use-case. My apologies for not being able to find the answer elsewhere-- this is a newbie question I know.

  • How can i see how many mysql connections are opend ?

    - by Sahal
How can i see how many number of connections are opened in one request. (mysql_connect) I know that if i call mysql_connect function 100 times, function will return the connection link which is already opened only if parameters of the function is same. It will not request for new connection if connection is already exists. But i just want to make sure mysql_connect is not requesting new. I am working with a legacy system which contains so many "mysql_connect" function. Is there any setting in apache or is there any way i can log this number of connection value in apache or mysql log file? Please help.

  • How do I point a domain name to a Django url?

    - by username2
I have a subdomain m.example.com that I want to point to the same location as example.com/mobile running on an apache2/django1.3 installation. example.com is the landing page, and I have the urls.py configured such that urls that match /^mobile$/ will be served the mobile version of the page. I looked into <VirtualHost>, but I think it requires a physical location for me to point m.example.com at and with the django urls there is no physical location except for the root of the project directory. I am unsure if the configuration change is made on the apache side or the django side. I've also looked into the mod_rewrite module for Apache, but I would prefer if I didnt have to redirect m.example.com to example.com/mobile

  • mod_rewrite - strange [R] behavior

    - by Tal
Hello! I'm doing something very simple with mod_rewrite and it's behaving strange. It's behaving as if I'm using the [R] option, but I'm not. Here's a simple test for a .htaccess file: RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^page1$ page2 This should redirect a request for page1 to page2, but leave the URL in the web browser still pointing to page1. That doesn't happen though. It actually switches the URL to page2, as if I were using this code: RewriteRule ^page1$ page2 [R] Why's it doing that? That's not the default behavior. I'm using a pre-configured machine I got for EC2, so it's probably something in the apache configuration I'm not aware of. Googling has been futile. Help? This is Apache 2.12 btw.

  • Is it possible to stream music/video from an Apache server?

    - by rphello101
I'm just starting to get into setting up a server. I've set up a basic Apache server to access some songs and movies. When I click one of the songs though, nothing happens. When I click one of the movies, sometimes it will open a new web page and act as though it is going to start playing, but never does. I know Apache is HTTP, not FTP and read somewhere that that could be a problem, but I'm uncertain of the differences. Anyway, is it possible to click on one of the songs and have it start streaming using, for example, Windows Media Player? If so, might someone either explain how to do so or direct me to where I can find it? Any information on retrieving media from an Apache server at this point would be most appreciated. -Edit- I don't know if it matters, but I'm using Windows 7 and Google Chrome

  • Server extremely lags and logs bunch of 'internal dummy connection'

    - by Dmitry
    Having a web-server (don't know actually whoset it up, it's my heritage). Few hours ago it started working very (extremely!) slow, mysqld oftenly fails requests. /var/log/mysqld.log is empty (well, it says, mysqld started, and so on, but nothing regarding today) /var/log/apache2/access_log is full of such lines: ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" ::1 - - [30/Nov/2011:10:15:05 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 1 "-" "Apache/2.2.3 (Linux/SUSE) (internal dummy connection)" Guys, what's that?   • Set up linux box for secure local hosting a-z

    - by microchasm
I am in the process of reinstalling the OS on a machine that will be used to host a couple of apps for our business. The apps will be local only; access from external clients will be via vpn only. The prior setup used a hosting control panel (Plesk) for most of the admin, and I was looking at using another similar piece of software for the reinstall - but I figured I should finally learn how it all works. I can do most of the things the software would do for me, but am unclear on the symbiosis of it all. This is all an attempt to further distance myself from the land of Configuration Programmer/Programmer, if at all possible. I can't find a full walkthrough anywhere for what I'm looking for, so I thought I'd put up this question, and if people can help me on the way I will edit this with the answers, and document my progress/pitfalls. Hopefully someday this will help someone down the line. The details: CentOS 5.5 x86_64 httpd: Apache/2.2.3 mysql: 5.0.77 (to be upgraded) php: 5.1 (to be upgraded) The requirements: SECURITY!! Secure file transfer Secure client access (SSL Certs and CA) Secure data storage Virtualhosts/multiple subdomains Local email would be nice, but not critical The Steps: Download latest CentOS DVD-iso (torrent worked great for me). Install CentOS: While going through the install, I checked the Server Components option thinking I was going to be using another Plesk-like admin. In hindsight, considering I've decided to try to go my own way, this probably wasn't the best idea. Basic config: Setup users, networking/ip address etc. Yum update/upgrade. Upgrade PHP/MySQL: To upgrade PHP and MySQL to the latest versions, I had to look to another repo outside CentOS. IUS looks great and I'm happy I found it! Add IUS repository to our package manager cd /tmp wget http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/x86_64/epel-release-1-1.ius.el5.noarch.rpm rpm -Uvh epel-release-1-1.ius.el5.noarch.rpm wget http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/x86_64/ius-release-1-4.ius.el5.noarch.rpm rpm -Uvh ius-release-1-4.ius.el5.noarch.rpm yum list | grep -w \.ius\. # list all the packages in the IUS repository; use this to find PHP/MySQL version and libraries you want to install Remove old version of PHP and install newer version from IUS rpm -qa | grep php # to list all of the installed php packages we want to remove yum shell # open an interactive yum shell remove php-common php-mysql php-cli #remove installed PHP components install php53 php53-mysql php53-cli php53-common #add packages you want transaction solve #important!! checks for dependencies transaction run #important!! does the actual installation of packages. In this users' home directory, I created a folder called 'https'. This is where the documents for this site will live, so I need to add a virtualhost that will point to it. I will use the above virtual interface for this site (herein called dev.site.local). vi /etc/http/conf/httpd.conf Add the following to the end of httpd.conf: <VirtualHost 192.168.1.3:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /home/dev/https ServerName dev.site.local ErrorLog /home/dev/logs/error_log TransferLog /home/dev/logs/access_log </VirtualHost> I put a dummy index.html file in the https directory just to check everything out. I tried browsing to it, and was met with permission denied errors. The logs only gave an obscure reference to what was going on: [Mon May 17 14:57:11 2010] [error] [client 192.168.1.100] (13)Permission denied: access to /index.html denied I tried chmod 777 et. al., but to no avail. Turns out, I needed to chmod+x the https directory and its' parent directories. chmod +x /home chmod +x /home/dev chmod +x /home/dev/https This solved that problem. DNS I'm handling DNS via our local Windows Server 2003 box. However, the CentOS documentation for BIND can be found here: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/ch-bind.html SSL To get SSL working, I changed the following in httpd.conf: NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.3:443 #make sure this line is in httpd.conf <VirtualHost 192.168.1.3:443> #change port to 443 ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /home/dev/https ServerName dev.site.local ErrorLog /home/dev/logs/error_log TransferLog /home/dev/logs/access_log </VirtualHost> Unfortunately, I keep getting (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) errors when trying to access a page with SSL. As JamesHannah gracefully pointed out below, I had not set up the locations of the certs in httpd.conf, and thusly was getting the page thrown at the broswer as the cert making the browser balk. So first, I needed to set up a CA and make certificate files. I found a great (if old) walkthrough on the process here: http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/284. Here are the relevant steps I took from that article: mkdir /home/CA cd /home/CA/ mkdir newcerts private echo '01' > serial touch index.txt #this and the above command are for the database that will keep track of certs Create an openssl.cnf file in the /home/CA/ dir and edit it per the walkthrough linked above. (For reference, my finished openssl.cnf file looked like this: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=hnZDij4T) openssl req -new -x509 -extensions v3_ca -keyout private/cakey.pem -out cacert.pem -days 3650 -config ./openssl.cnf #this creates the cacert.pem which gets distributed and imported to the browser(s) Modified openssl.cnf again per walkthrough instructions. openssl req -new -nodes -out dev.req.pem -config ./openssl.cnf #generates certificate request, and key.pem which I renamed dev.key.pem. Modified openssl.cnf again per walkthrough instructions. openssl ca -out dev.cert.pem -config ./openssl.cnf -infiles dev.req.pem #create and sign certificate. cp dev.cert.pem /home/dev/certs/cert.pem cp dev.key.pem /home/certs/key.pem I updated httpd.conf to reflect the certs and turn SSLEngine on: NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.3:443 <VirtualHost 192.168.1.3:443> ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /home/dev/https SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /home/dev/certs/cert.pem SSLCertificateKeyFile /home/dev/certs/key.pem ServerName dev.site.local ErrorLog /home/dev/logs/error_log TransferLog /home/dev/logs/access_log </VirtualHost> Put the CA cert.pem in a web-accessible place, and downloaded/imported it into my browser. Now I can visit https://dev.site.local with no errors or warnings. And this is where I'm at. I will keep editing this as I make progress. Any tips on how to configure SSL email would be appreciated.

  • Reverse and Forward DNS set up correctly but sometimes MapReduce job fails

    - by phodamentals
Ever since we switched over our cluster to communicate via private interfaces and created a DNS server with correct forward and reverse lookup zones, we get this message before the M/R job runs: ERROR org.apache.hadoop.hbase.mapreduce.TableInputFormatBase - Cannot resolve the host name for /192.168.3.9 because of javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: DNS name not found [response code 3]; remaining name '9.3.168.192.in-addr.arpa' A dig and nslookup both show that the reverse and forward look-ups both get good responses with no errors from within the cluster. • Httpd problem, suspect an attack but not sure

    - by Bob
On one of my servers when I type netstat -n I get a huge output, something like 400 entries for httpd. The bandwidth on the server isn't high, so I'm confused as to what's causing it. I'm suspecting an attack, but not sure. Intermittently, the web server will stop responding. When this happens all other services such as ping, ftp, work just normally. System load is also normal. The only thing that isn't normal I think is the "netstat -n" output. Can you guys take a look and see if there's something I can do? I have APF installed, but not sure what rules I should put into place to mitigate the problem. Btw, I'm running CentOS 5 Linux with Apache 2. root@linux [/backup/stuff/apf-9.7-1]# netstat -n|grep :80 tcp 0 0 120.136.23.56:80 220.181.94.220:48397 TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 120.136.23.56:80 • What am I (a beginner) losing, by choosing Cherokee over Apache for serving dynamic content?

    - by Bad Learner
I am a complete beginner and am planning to setup a photo sharing site. This is the setup I am planning, basically for a start - - Cherokee (instead of Apache) for serving dynamic content (python-based application), and Nginx for serving static files. Since, I am a beginner, what have I, to lose? So, can someone, from your experience, please tell me, what I'd lose by choosing Cherokee over Apache for serving dynamic content in PHP/Python/whatever? Anything other than the fact that there's lot of documentation, many people who can help when there's an issue etc as Apache is well established and the most popular web server? Again, my intention is not to spurt a flame war here. Just wanted to know if Cherokee would be better than Apache in terms of performance, reliability, and speed, when it matters (peak load times). Also, I heard it's a lot faster than Apache in serving dynamic content, is it true?

  • How can I disable reverse DNS in Apache 2?

    - by Creighton Hale
I want to disable reverse DNS in Apache 2. I have done the following steps: In apache2/apache2.conf file ,HostnameLookups is set as OFF Tcpdump session confirmed thatApache was doing double reverse lookups even though the HostnameLookupsdirective was clearly turned off. No hostnames insites-available. The problem still remains. UPD: version of apache is dpkg -l | grep apache2 ii apache2-mpm-prefork 2.2.16-6+squeeze4 Apache HTTP Server - traditional non-threaded model ii apache2-utils 2.2.16-6+squeeze4 utility programs for webservers ii apache2.2-bin 2.2.16-6+squeeze4 Apache HTTP Server common binary files ii apache2.2-common 2.2.16-6+squeeze4 Apache HTTP Server common files apache2 -l Compiled in modules: core.c mod_log_config.c mod_logio.c prefork.c http_core.c mod_so.c I think mod_security is not present.
