• Extending a Java Swing class in Clojure

  I'm trying to extend a Java Swing component in Clojure, i.e. I want to extend a javax.swing.JComponent and add some custom methods implemented in pure Clojure in addition to all the standard inherited methods. I've tried using "proxy" which works great if I just want a single instance (in the same way as an anonymous inner class). However I'd really like a named class so that I can generate an arbitrary number of instances. What's the recommended way of doing this?

  I want to display to my user how many (percent wise) of their forms are compliant with the new standard. The way I want to let them know visually is the percent amount will be colored. It will be 0xFF0000 (pure red) for 0% and 0x00FF00 (pure green) at 100%. What is the best way to calculate the color for each step along the way?

• RoR: How to prevent Url change after erronous edit?

  In a standard generated scaffold project, when you are on an edit page, the URL looks like; /something/3/edit However, when the page doesn't validate, it runs the following code: format.html { :action => "new" } and the page url changes to; /something/3 (no /edit) Why is this is this and how to prevent it, as it looks inconsistent to me and thus confusing.   Hi, I'm trying to use this fairly standard line of code in my app: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] registerForRemoteNotificationTypes:(UIRemoteNotificationTypeAlert | UIRemoteNotificationTypeBadge | UIRemoteNotificationTypeSound)]; But am receiving the follow error: error: invalid conversion from 'int' to 'UIRemoteNotificationType' It works if I only use one of the notification types but fails every time if I try and use more than one. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

In another language maybe it would be a 'procedure'. In object orientation speak it would be called a 'method' if a class member. What would be the correct term to use in c#?

• Sending floating point values between processes with pipes in C

  Is there a standard way of sending floating point values from a child process to a parent process in C. I have a some calculations where I want to fork a process, then have the child do some busy work, the parent do something else, and then the child send its values (which are doubles) back to the parent (presumably through a pipe). Clearly the parent could parse the stream, but I'm just wondering if there's a cleaner way?

  I'm trying svn add *.py --force As the documentation suggests, but I know for a fact it's missing files nested in deeper folders. Why? Is there a standard way to do this with other unix commands too? */*.py will nab a few more files, but it's kind of a pain in the butt to do this for every possible depth.

I have had a look at how to how to create a standard shortcut file in C# but this fails when you give it a server address (\\\) Does anyone have an idea on how to do this.   Do we have a standard way of converting a char* to int (or long) in a strict way, i.e. we should get proper result only if all characters are digits and can fit in an int (or long) -- some way by using strtol etc.. ? Thus "sbc45", "4590k", " 56", "56 ", should be all invalid using that function.

I want the user to be able to re-run the jQuery plugin's this.each() which basically re-runs the plugin, for example; callback: function(){ // some code to rerun the plugin here after 10 seconds } I know I can do this like so: $(this).plugin_name(); but it won't contain any of the options I've specified.   According to the responses in "Why subtract null pointer in offsetof()?" (and my reading of K&R), the C standard doesn't require that (size_t)((char *)0) == 0. Still, I've never seen a situation where casting a null pointer to an integer type evaluates to anything else. If there is a compiler or scenario where (size_t)((char *)0) != 0, what is it?

• Should Javascript's "for in" construct iterate the length property?

  I'm making a bookmarklet, but I've encountered some wierd behaviour in IE8. The code causing the problem is this: var els = document.getElementById("my_id").getElementsByTagName("*"); for(var i in els) { alert(i+","+els[i]) } The first thing that is alerted is "length, n". This isn't the case in chrome: just in IE8. Interestingly, it seems to behave differently depending on whether the code goes in the console/address bar or the page itself. Is this standard behaviour?

  I have a structure where the main table is USER, other tables include CATEGORY (contains user_id). What I got after the standard reverse engineering procedure was: the class User contained a collection of categories, the class Category didn't contain the foreign key (user_id) but it did contain the User object. Why did it not contain the foreign key as a class property? And how do I join these two tables in HQL without that glue? HQL - please explain this part.

• Why is T() = T() allowed in C++?

  I believe the expression T() creates an rvalue (by the Standard) However the following code compiles (at least on gcc4.0) class T {... }; int main() { T() = T(); } I know technically this is possible because member functions can be invoked on temporaries and the above is just invoking the operator= on the r-value temporary created from T(). But conceptually this is like assigning a new value to an r-value. Is there a good reason why this is allowed?

  I need to build Boost with a non-standard set of flags (due to a conflict between Boost threading and C++/CLI). I'm adding the required flag (/clr) using CXXFLAGS, but this flag conflicts with the Boost default /EHs flag (/clr implies /EHa which is incompatible with /EHs), so that needs to be suppressed. Is there a mechanism like CXXFLAGS to suppress a default Boost flag or must I edit all of the compiler specification files by hand?

  Hi all, simple question regarding property value inheritance in UserControls. If i create a UserControl, it has some standard properties like Background, BorderBrush and BorderThickness. Within that UserControl i have a border. I want to know, if i dont specify any set value or binding for the property BorderBrush of that border, will it automatically inherit the value of BorderBrush from the parent control? Thanks!
