• C# Custom Brush - I want two gradients chaining them together.

  I am making a bar chart and I want two separate gradients for each bar. First I want a gradient to go from top to bottom solid red to transparent red. I want to paint over the top of that a gradient that goes from right to left, black to opaque. So - In the bottom left we should have; Bottom left - Alpha 0 Bottom right - Alpha 0 Top left - Alpha 255 Colour Red Top Right - Alpha 255 Colour Black So in effect I want to take a solid colour, add a left to right gradient to black then take the output of that and add a top to bottom gradient to transparency. All this and I want it to be in a single brush, is this even possible? Thanks!

  Can a user be a member of multiple Organization Units (OU) in Active Directory ? Also, is there a standard format mentioned by Microsoft on how an OU should be created and what its attributes are ? I found this in Wikipedia "However, Organizational Units are just an abstraction for the administrator, and do not function as true containers; the underlying domain operates as if objects were all created in a simple flat-file structure, without any OUs. It is not possible for example to create two user accounts with an identical username in two separate OUs, such as "fred.staff-ou.domain" and "fred.student-ou.domain"."

• What data is actually stored in a B-tree database in CouchDB?

  I'm wondering what is actually stored in a CouchDB database B-tree? The CouchDB: The Definitive Guide tells that a database B-tree is used for append-only operations and that a database is stored in a single B-tree (besides per-view B-trees). Doesn't it mean, that CouchDB needs a separate "view" database for indexing current revisions of documents to preserve O(log n) access? Wouldn't it lead to race conditions while building such an index? (as far as I know, CouchDB uses no write locks).

  We're being told that fewer HTTP requests per page load is a Good Thing. The extreme form of that for CSS would be to have a single, unique CSS file per page, with any shared site-wide styles duplicated in each file. But there's a trade off there. If you have separate shared global CSS files, they can be cached once when the front page is loaded and then re-used on multiple pages, thereby reducing the necessary size of the page-specific CSS files. So which is better in real-world practice? Shorter CSS files through multiple discrete CSS files that are cacheable, or fewer HTTP requests through fewer-but-larger CSS files?

• Execute current UITextField autocorrect suggestion when another button is pressed

  I am implementing chat in my application, very similar to the iPhone's built-in Messages app. I have a UITextField next to a button. The user types something into the text field, and very often the text field suggests various autocorrections. In the built-in Messages app, tapping the Send button will cause the currently visible autocorrection suggestion to execute. I am seeking this behavior in my application, but haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone know of a way to programmatically execute the currently visible autocorrection/autocomplete suggestion of a UITextField when a completely separate control is activated? It's obviously possible somehow.

  As of right now, I am still shaky on classes, so I don't want to use any classes for my site. I'm still practicing with classes. But how can I implement the MVC idea without classes? Would this work for a MVC? index.php (the view) index_controller.php index_model.php Is this right for what a MVC should be? View: show html, css, forms Controller: get $_POST from forms and any data from the user, get info from db Model: do all the functions, insert/delete in db, etc Basically separate the HTML/css for the view, all the data collecting for the controller, and the logic for the model. And just connect them all using require_once.

• C++ method chaining including class constructor

  Hello, I'm trying to implement method chaining in C++, which turns out to be quite easy if the constructor call of a class is a separate statement, e.g: Foo foo; foo.bar().baz(); But as soon as the constructor call becomes part of the method chain, the compiler complains about expecting ";" in place of "." immediately after the constructor call: Foo foo().bar().baz(); I'm wondering now if this is actually possible in C++. Here is my test class: class Foo { public: Foo() { } Foo& bar() { return *this; } Foo& baz() { return *this; } }; I also found an example for "fluent interfaces" in C++ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluent_interface#C.2B.2B) which seems to be exactly what I'm searching for. • Indexes and multi column primary keys

  Went searching and didn't find the answer to this specific noob question. My apologies if I missed it. In a MySQL database I have a table with the following primary key PRIMARY KEY id (invoice, item) In my application I will also frequently be selecting on "item" by itself and less frequently on only "invoice". I'm assuming I would benefit from indexes on these columns. MySQL does not complain when I define the following: INDEX (invoice), INDEX (item), PRIMARY KEY id (invoice, item) But I don't see any evidence (using DESCRIBE -- the only way I know how to look) that separate indexes have been established for these two columns. So the question is, are the columns that make up a primary key automatically indexed individually? Also, is there a better way than DESCRIBE to explore the structure of my table?

• A 'do' statement at the end of my perl script never runs

  In my main script, I am doing some archive manipulation. Once I have completed that, I want to run a separate script to upload my archives to and FTP server. Separately, these scripts work well. I want to add the FTP script to the end of my archive script so I only need to worry about scheduling one script to run and I want to guarantee that the first script completes it work before the FTP script is called. After looking at all the different methods to call my FTP script, I settled on 'do', however, when my do statement is at the end of the script, it never runs. When I place it in my main foreach loop, it runs fine, but it runs multiple times which I want to avoid since the FTP script can handle having multiple archives to upload. Is there something I am missing? Why does it not run? Thanks

• Wordpress & Django -- One domain, two servers. Possible?

  My question is about hosting Django and Wordpress under one domain, but two physical machines (actually, they are VMs but same diff). Let's say I have a Django webapp at example.com. I'd like to start a Wordpress blog about my webapp, so any blog page rank mojo flows back to my webapp, I'd like the blog address t be example.com/blog. My understanding is blog.example.com would not transfer said page rank mojo. Because I'm worried about Wordpress security flaws compromising my Django webapp, I want to host Django and Wordpress on two physically separate machines. Given all that, is it possible using re-write rules or a reverse proxy server to do this? I know the easy way is to make my Wordpress blog a subdomain, but I really don't want to do that. Has anyone done this in the past, is it stable? If I need a third server to be a dedicated reverse proxy, that's totally fine. Thanks!

• Is a new thread in a Visual Studio test project aborted when the test ends?

  Hi, i have to do some message exchange with a 3rd party (in a website). When the client posts a page, i start the message exchange. When that doesn't succeed for some reason, i report this to the client by rendering the page with a message. On the background, in a separate thread, i start a process to send abort messages to the 3rd party. I can't do this while the user is waiting for the page to come back, because it might take a few minutes. But in a test project, the test ends when the message to the 3rd party is sent, and after the new thread is started. But it seems that the new thread also ends, when the test is done. Is that normal behaviour? I do start the thread in a new class with a reference to 2 objects from the class which tries to send the message in the first place, may that be a problem?

  I have this Rails app, with domain name abc.com. I am also having a separate subdomain for Piwik stats, in this subdomain stats.abc.com. Googlebot somehow listed some of the links with my subdomain too. http://abc.com/login http://stats.abc.com/login http://abc.com/signup http://stats.abc.com/signup The ones with stats will reference to the same page in the app, but are treated entirely different website. I have put in robots.txt in stats after this matter, but wondering if there is any appropriate way to block this because I may have new subdomains in future.   I have been searching all day and reading many tutorials and still I am confused. I am working on a project that has the following requirements as specified by the client (customer - not to be confused with client app): Connect to a remote server and verify that connection was successful. Connect to Web service on said server via SOAP. Authenticate with service using public key encryption Upon successful authentication, push a list of products and categories to a MSSQL database on remote server via the Web service. The client is a Winforms application written in C#. So far, I have created a WCF Service Application with separate services for the products and categories but I cannot figure the rest out. • How to handle printing of HTML pages?

  In my portfolio site I have listed my projects under separate tabs (tab menu). This works well except for printing which requires the user to click on a tab, print, click on the next tab and print the same page again to get everything. Being a portfolio I'd assume that visitors want to print all of the content. Is there a general way to create a different style when printing a web page? Or should I just add a printer icon on my page which redirects the user to a different page where all the data is in a big chunk and then prompt the user's browser to start printing?

• Problems with IRQs when connecting two digium card in and asterisk box

  I have two Digium Wildcard TDM800P with 8 FXO ports each. When I connect both at the same time IRQ misses start showing up making my computer unresponsive and unusable. One card works fine but I need all 16 FXO ports to work to receive calls from my Telco. Is there a way for the cards to communicate with each other so they don't generate as many interrupts. Or a way to tweak Linux to dedicate separate IRQ's for each card. I have tried disabling Audio, ACPI and USB ports. Still too many IRQ misses.

  Background: I have a current implementation that receives data from about 120 different socket connections in python. In my current implementation, I handle each of these separate socket connections with a dedicated thread for each. Each of these threads parse the data and eventually store it within a shared locked dictionary. These sockets DO NOT have uniform data rates, some sockets get more data than others. Question: Is this the best way to handle incoming data in python, or does python have a better way on handling multiple sockets per thread?

• Making a relevant search of text in database using regex

  Can anyone tell me how I could count the possible instances of a keyword in a block of text? I've split a search term up into separate tokens, so just need to run through and do a count for every instance and removing punctuation or other special characters when making the count. Secondly, if someone has inserted search terms surrounded by double quotes, i want to be able to skip explode, but just count instances of that exact phrase. It doesn't have to be case sensitive and I would like to remove punctuation from the phrase when doing the count. Thirdly, in both cases i want to be able to ignore wordpress and html tags. Lastly, if anyone know any good tutorials for relevant searches that answer the questions above, that would cool too.   Hello, in C++, the following means "allocate memory for an int pointer": int* number; So, the asterisk is part of the variable type; without it, that would mean something else (that's why I usually don't separate the asterisk from the variable type). Then what is the reason the asterisk is considered something else, instead of being part of the type? For example, it seems better, if the following meant "allocate memory for two int pointers": int* number1, number2; Am I wrong?

• Manually force touch points to reset in Windows 8?

  Hi I developed a HTML5/JAVASCRIPT app that is supported using advertisement for the Win8 store. I just by chance happened to notice that if you touch the screen, drag your finger over the advertisement, and release your finger on top of the advertisement that the specific touch is not released and instead when you touch again it registers as a separate touch. This has caused my app to behave expectantly when the user interacts with the app using touch. I wanted to know if it was possible to force the touches to reset so that when the user touches the screen again it is always using "Touch(0)".

  I’m building a site that needs users created with different roles and permissions to access different areas of the site. I using mvc 2 but I can’t find much clear guidance on using the Membership tool with mvc to create accounts and roles etc. I tried the web configuration tool which works but I would like to administrate the site remotely. I used the aspnet_regsql tool so I can access the SqlMembershipProvider Schema in my Database. I also need to add more information to a user like profile info and a picture, would I add these to the membership tables or create separate tables for this?   Hello, I have a windows form that has a simple menu and performs a simple operation, I want to be able to create another windows form with all the functionality of a menu bar, message pump etc.. as a seperate process so I can then share the results of the operation to the second window. I.E. 1) Form A opens Form B opens as a separate process 2)Form A performs operation 3)Form A passes results via memory to Form B 4)Form B display results I'm confused as to how to go about it, the main app runs fine but i'm not sure how to add a second window if the first one already exists. • cannot read but can write on serial port through Android Emulator

  I am working on a program that is communicating with serial port over USB through Android emulator. emulator -qemu -serial /dev/ttyUSB0 The emulator is able to open the port and write into it. However, read is not happening. The program has a timeout for read maintained by a timer. The read happens in a separate 'read' thread. The main thread has a socketpair fd pair to signal the read-thread that the serial port is closed post timeout. In the read-thread, polling happens(poll() function call) over the 2 file-descriptors: one is serial port fd, the other is one of the socketpair. The board that I have connected to works fine with sending commands over 'cutecom' The poll never succeeds for serial port. However, poll succeeds for 'socketpair'ed fd and the thread ends on a close-signal sent from main-thread post timeout. Ouestions: Are there any special settings for read as even loop-back fails Are there differences between settings for read and write on a serial port?
