Would the best way to do this be to create a public static Text property that is updated by the textbox's textchanged event? Also what would a developer do in order to interact with this text property? Would they add a reference to the program .exe in their program? Please help, I'm quite clueless here. Also was not sure how to word this question, feel free it edit if it is unclear.

  I'm writing an add-on for IE using VC++ and ATL. It's a simple DLL and I have a text file that I use as a resource. This answer helped me in doing this. I have a question about updating resource. MSDN describes how to do it but there is a function (BeginUpdateResource) that need filename of exe or dll with resource. Is it possible to update resource in my DLL from my DLL? I can easily read it that way, but to update I have to provide DLL's name. Is it necessary? Also if I won't give full path to my DLL it looks for file on desktop and not where DLL is stored. I don't know why this behave like this.

• Invoking MSYS bash from Windows cmd

  I'm using GCC on Windows7 (using the TDM's build). I installed MSYS to be able to execute make and compile using makefiles. However, it is tedious to every time start up the MSYS bash shell, navigate to the directory of the project and run make. What I want is to automate this process. I prefer to have a batch file in Windows, or something similar, from which I then invoke the MSYS bash. It should navigate to the directory the batch file resides in and call "make". Is this possible? Can I send commands to MSYS bash from cmd (like navigation / invoking make)? Or can I let the MSYS bash run a "bash script", which sets the commands to be executed much like batch scripts? Thank you. • How to set AeDebug to get a minidump with the name of the process ?

  I have to perform some post mortem debugging on a C++ project. Known way to perform is to set the cdb debugger as a minidump generator and to process the dumps collects afterwards. I read nearly the whole web and I didn't find a solution to produce a minidump with the name of the process that has crashed Is there a way to set AeDebug\Debugger registry variable in such a manner that cdb generates a dump file with the name of the process ? When I encapsulate the call to cdb.exe in a batch file, it starts well but stays blocked on the symbol searching. I must perform a Ctrl+C in order to stop the batch, then the minidump, with the correct process name, is created... but of course I can't set up such a thing in an unattended production environment... Has anybody done that before ?

  I have AdventureWorks database mdf file in my VS 2010 project. Is there anyway I can create Membership tables inside my AdventureWorks database. I know I can detach the database attach in SQL SERVER 2008. Create the tables and then detach. But I don't have SQL SERVER 2008 and I want to see if this can be done using command line tool. I tried this but no use: aspnet_regsql.exe -d AdventureWorks.mdf -A mr -E -S .\SQLEXPRESS Update: If I right click and see the properties of the AdventureWorks.mdf database then it shows the name as "C4BE6C8DA139A060D14925377A7E63D0_64A_10\ADVENTUREWORKSWEBFORMS\ADVENTUREWORKSWEBFORMS\ADVENTUREWORKS\APP_DATA\ADVENTUREWORKS.MDF" This is interesting!

After the installation program have restarted the server and tries to continue the installation, I get a command prompt with the following error: C:\Windows\system32>change user /INSTALL Install mode does not apply to a Terminal server configured for remote administration. C:\Windows\system32>"C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\setup.exe" /TempCopy How do I install programs via Remote Desktop if I’m not allowed to use “change user /INSTALL”?   Hi, I developed an Outlook 2003 add-in which uses the com dll redemption. I created a visual studio 2008 setup project, added a custom action to run "caspol.exe -machine -addgroup 1 -strong -hex [key] -noname -noversion FullTrust -n \"Name\" -description \"desc\" and moved the registry keys under software to HKLM as described in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc136646.aspx#AutoDeployVSTOse_InstallingtheAddinforAllUsers to ensure all-users compatibility. I included the redemption.dll in the setup with vsdrfCOMSelfReg (vsdrfCOM throwed an error). My problem is: When installing the setup on a test machine under an admin account, it runs fine under all users, however when we use the company wide software deployment which runs under a system account the setup executes but the add-in wont load. If I repair the installation with an admin account again it loads just fine. Shouldn't a system account have the required permissions to install all of the components? What options do I have? Thanks for any suggestions.

  I'm a complete newbie to Windows and COM programming, trying to use com4j in order to call a COM object from Java. Com4j generates Java interfaces from COM definitions "often found in .ocx, .dll, .exe, and/or .tlb files" . It was easy for me to locate the .ocx file of my target COM object, but I have no clue regarding the standard interface iStream. Microsoft's documentation mentions OLE32.DLL ( c:\Windows\Windows32\Ole32.dll ?) , but neither the com4j generator nor oleviewer succeed in opening this file. Any hints?

• CodeBlocks, GCC: change project language c and c++?

  When I select console project to start with, it lets you select c or c++, but once its created.. i can't figure out where to change it, and when you create a win32 gui application, it doesn't give you the option at all, and its default is c++.. where can i change to c? i have been looking in all the project settings for AGES. renaming my file from cpp to .c doesn't seem to do anything, it compiles the file as cpp. i know that without the ide, you just change your exe from g++ to gcc, but how do i set this for the current project in codeblocks?

  I'm using Google Test Framework to set some unit tests. I have got three projects in my solution: FN (my project) FN_test (my tests) gtest (Google Test Framework) I set FN_test to have FN and gtest as references (dependencies), and then I think I'm ready to set up my tests (I've already set everyone to /MTd (not doing this was leading me to linking errors before)). Particularly, I define a class called Embark in FN I would like to test using FN_test. So far, so good.   Hello everyone, i am having problem with running an example from qt which uses win32 libraries when i compile i dnt get any errors but when i run it is not able to open the application (.exe) file in windows 7.but when i compile this example in windowsXP it works fine. can anyone let me know whether i need to change my .pro file inorder to get it worked under windows 7. • Continous Build Integration with SourceSafe and Windows Batch Files

  I want to create a continuous build integration system for .NET using just Windows batch files and Visual Source Safe. I've come up with the following batch file so far - set ssdir=\\xxxx\vss cd d:\mydir "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual SourceSafe\ss.exe" diff "$/sourcedir" -R -Q > diffout.txt This will spit out a file containg lines like "SourceSafe files different from local files" when a change has been made. My challenge is to figure out if those lines are in the file, then do a get and kick off MSBuild if they are. I'd then schedule the batch file to run every 10 minutes or so. Anyone got any thoughts on how to do that? Or any other ways of doing continuous build integration without downloading a complicated build automation system? Update: Happy to use cscript or powershell too, though not really familiar with those environments. My main aim is to avoid installing 3rd party software

• StyleCop 4.4 works inside VS.NET 2010 but not MSBuild command line

  We are seeing extremely strange results where StyleCop will correctly report violations when run from within Visual Studio 2010. However, when we run msbuild on the command line (e.g., "MSBuild.exe mySolution.sln") it reports "No violations encountered" when clearly there are the same violations as when we ran it within Visual Studio. Is this a bug in the latest release of StyleCop? Or in the 2010 integration? Is there anything you can tell me about possible differences with StyleCop executing from within VS.NET versus MSBuild command line? Thanks.

• raising a vb6 event using interop

  Hi, I have a legacy VB6 component that I've imported into VS using tlbimp.exe to generate my interop assembly. The VB6 component defines an event that allows me to pass messages within VB6. Public Event Message(ByVal iMsg As Variant, oCancel As Variant) I would really like to be able to raise this even in my C# program, but its getting imported as an event, not a delegate or something else useful. So, I can only listen, but never fire. Does anyone know how to fire an event contained within VB6? The C# event looks like [TypeLibType(16)] [ComVisible(false)] public interface __MyObj_Event { event __MyObj_MessageEventHandler Message; } I unfortunately cannot change the VB6 code. Thanks.

• WCF - WebReferences not working

  At the client end, I have generated a Proxy using SvcUtil.exe and it is working fine. Then I have added a WebReference to the client assembly and calling the same method. But it is not working. My program is running in console mode and the method is suppose to return a string. It is not returning the string. I just see a blank console window. No exception is thrown. And after setting a debug point on the method call I see that, program is halted on the method call for ever. What should I look for to solve the problem? I am using VS2005. And adding the webReference by right-clicking the client project and then clicking "Add Web Reference" pop-up menu.

• Windows TCP connection - Still alive after process terminate

  Hi People, I run a license server in linux and a process in Windows to check out tokens from it. It does a tcp socket connection to server to communicate and once the process in Windows is closed, the tokens are checked in back to server. But I see sometime the connection show as established in netstat output even when process in Windows is terminated. This happens when the process in Windows is running for a long time and terminate. It takes 2-3 hours for the connection to go away in neststat output. TCP BABDT350:4505 180.190.40.34:51847 ESTABLISHED 2832 [app.EXE] Can you guys tell me is this is a network stack configuration issue in Windows? Is it possible for the connection to go away once process terminate? Please let me know your answers to this.

  Hi folks, I've done this before but can't remember how for the life of me. I used aspnetreg_sql.exe to create the membership tables in my database. But now i cant seem to be able to point my web app to the correct database. In the provider settings in asp.net management interface i only see a radio button with the label "AspNetSqlProvider" but I can only test it (in which it always fails). I can't modify the connection. • Restart IIS7 webapp for debug in VS2008

  I'm developing an ASP.NET asyc generic handler which uses a static System.Threading.Timer instance to feed data to the response output stream while the context is in the asynchronous phase. I'm having issues at startup that I'd like to debug. Currently, because of the long-lived nature of the timer, I'm manually killing w3wp.exe in order to cause the application to restart. I'm aware that there are other ways to do this, but this is the best workflow I can find! Isn't there a way to force a cold start when I hit f5, instead of the standard VS approach of attaching to the existing IIS process?

• Access COM object through a windows process handle.

  I'm currently automating an application at work using COM, and have an issue where anyone using my application has a problem if the original application is already open when my application runs. I know how to locate the process if it's open, but instead of having to worry about closing it, or working around it, etc., I want to try to use the existing application instead of opening a new one. This is how I normally start the application in my automation program: Designer.Application desApp = new Designer.Application(); Now I'm attempting to try and use the handle from an existing application: Designer.Application desApp = (Designer.Application)((System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("Designer.exe")[0]).Handle) (I know this doesn't work, since .Handle returns an IntPtr, but I'm using it as an example.) Is there any way to accomplish this? How do I return a usable object if I know the handle/process?

• VC7.1 C1204 internal compiler error

  I'm working on modifying Firaxis' Civilization 4 core game DLL. The host application is built using VC7, hence the constraint (source not provided for the host EXE). I've been working on rewriting a large chunk of the code (focusing on low-hanging performance issues & memory leaks). I recently ran into an internal compiler error when trying to mod the code to use an array class instead of dynamically allocated 2-d arrays, I was going to use matrices from the boost lib (Civ4 is already using boost, so why not?). Basically, the issue comes down to: if I include "boost/numeric/ublas/matrix.hpp", I run into an internal compiler error C1204. MSDN has this to say: MSDN C1204 KB has this to say: KB 883655 So, I'm curious, is it possible to solve this error without a KB/SP being applied and dramatically reducing the complexity of the code? Additionally, as VC7 is no longer "supported", does anyone have a valid (supported) link for a VC7 service pack?
