  • Using NavigationService without XAML files

    I'm trying to create some pages in my Windows Phone application without the use of any XAML. Everything is working, however, I'm failing to use NavigationService/ Journal with this approach and all my attempts to utilize it are answered by the usual "No XAML was found at the location {0}'" response. Yes, I can add an almost empty XAML file to get everything working, but is this kind of boiler plate code really necessary? Is it maybe possible to use the UriMapping to map certain Uris to specific classes instead of *.xaml files?

The main view contains a two column grid, with the first column filled with a listbox whose datatemplate consists of a usercontrol and the second column filled with another usercontrol. These two usercontrols have the same datacontext. Also tell me if i could merge the usercontrol pairs, so that only one view exists for each viewmodel ie, FooView1 and FooView2 into FooView and so on...

  • Microsoft Surface: "Read" the tag value of an IdentityTag

    Hi, is it possible to read the value of an IdentityTag if you place it on the TagVisualizer, without having initalized it before? I would like to use the tags for registering a new object on the Surface but having all the "free" IdentityTags in a Collection for initalizing them all... There must be a better way to do in I think. But the TagVisualizer doesn't seem to do anything when you put a tag on it that it doesn't know.

  • Performance problem loading lots of user controls

    My application is loading a bunch of the same user control into a ScrollPanel. The problem is, this is very slow. The profiler show that the method Application.LoadComponent(), which is called internally by in the designer code in the constructor of my user control, is the bottleneck. The documentation of this method says, that this method load XAML files. I alway though the compiler compiles XAML to BAML and embedds it into the assembly. So the question is, how can I use BAML instead of XAML? Is there another way to make loading my user controls faster?

  • Rotating Cursor According to Rotated TextBox

    Hi All I have a TextBox that I allow my users to rotate. But what I would LOVE for my users is to have their Cursor rotate to the same angle that the TextBox was rotated at. For example, if they rotated the TextBox to 28°, then when the Cursor enters that TextBox the Cursor should also rotate itself to 28°. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

  • Pass view to viewmodel with datatemplate

    I have a ParameterView and ParameterViewModel, and I need the ParameterViewModel to have a reference to the Parameter view (more on that later). In the window I have a list of ParameterViewModels and in the ResourceDictionary I add the DataTemplate: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type my:ParameterViewModel}" > <my:ParameterView HorizontalAlignment="Left"/> </DataTemplate> I then bind an ItemsControl.ItemSource to the List of ParameterViewModels The problem is: How can I pass the ParameterView to the ParameterViewModel in this scenario? The reason I need the ParameterView in the ParameterViewModel is the following: I have a TextBox whose Text property is binded to the PropertyModelView.Name property. But I want to display a default string when the Name is empty or Null. I've tried to set the property value to the default string I want when that happens but the TextBox.Text is not set in this scenario. I do something like this: private string _name; public string Name { get { return _name; } set { if (value == null || value.Length == 0) Name = _defaultName; else _name = value; } } I've also tried to specifically set the TextBox.Text binding mode to TwoWay without success. I think this is a defense mechanism to prevent an infinite loop from happening but I don't know for sure. Any help on this front would also be highly appreciated. Thanks, José Tavares

  • InputManager ignores cut/copy/paste when initiated from menu

    I'm using the InputManager to check if changes to controls are done by user or code. This works fine, except when user uses the context menu for cut/copy/paste. If the user do ctrl+v in a textbox, InputManager correctly notices it. However, if the paste is done from the context menu of the textbox, the InputManager never fires the PreNotifyInput or PostNotifyInput events. Anyone knows why? Or how to detect that these user actions? Below is a working sample. The lower textblock never gets updated when user uses the cut/copy/paste menu in the above textbox since PreNotifyInput never fires.   • Sharing state/changes across ViewModels

    I have an App which has a Tasks tab and a Projects tab. I decided to make a separate ViewModel for each of the tabs, TasksViewModel and ProjectsViewModel. The Tasks tab has a new task area with an associated project pulldown and the Projects tab (obviously) has a list of projects. What I'd like is for the pulldown on the Tasks tab to share the same collection as the Projects tab list so that any time I add or remove a project on the Projects tab the list on the Tasks tab is up to date automatically. This worked well with a single ViewModel but it was beginning to become quite unruly. Should I not have split into two ViewModels? Is there a common method of sharing data like this? Perhaps pass the same ObservableCollection<Project> into each of the ViewModels? Perhaps some type of notification back to the TasksViewModel along the lines of ICollectionChanged. Appreciate any insight/input!

Is there a way to set/trigger a nested property (a regular property not DependencyProperty) easily with some kind of simple mechanisms as described here? I want to acheive something like: string newValue = "Hello World!"; DataBinder.EvalSet(foo, "Bar.Value", NewValue); Is there any mechanism that support both property path (for nested objects) and XPATHs (if the objects are XPATH navigable of course) ? again, that supports get and set options.   • What do you name the "other" kind of view-model in an MVVM project?

    With MVVM, I think of a view-model as a class that provides all the data and commands that a view needs to bind to. But what happens when I have a database entity object, say a Customer, and I want to build a class that shapes or flattens the Customer class for use in a data grid. For example, maybe this special Customer object would have a property TotalOrders, which is actually calculated using a join with a collection of Order entities. My question is, what do I call this special Customer class? In other situations, I'd be tempted to call it a CustomerViewModel, but I feel like "overloading" the notion of a view-model like this would be confusing in an MVVM project. What would you suggest?
