• Windows Security Center Service is missing

  I am trying to fix a Windows 7 machine here that has been infected with all kinds of Malware. I have removed all of them as far as I can see but I am stumped by one last task. One little bugger managed to remove the Windows Security Center service from the list of Windows services. So I cannot start it or set to automatically start. At the moment I cannot get the Windows firewall to turn on or any anti-virus software. The security center shows the following image when I try: Does anyone know how to add this back to the list of services so I may set it to start. I don't have a backup of the registry for this computer (it's not mine). Many thanks TT

  as part of a recent windows update, the irritating and intrusive intellipoint microsoft mouse software now seems to have been replaced by the even more irritating and intrusive "microsoft mouse and keyboard center[sic]" I am left handed and need to switch the left and right mouse buttons round. the option to do this has disappeared from the mouse control panel, to be replaced by a link which opens up said mouse and keyboard center. this in turn is a window which allows me to change settings on the keyboard but does not have any way to control mouse settings any hints would be very welcome. this is driving me nuts.

  We are a smallish educational network (about 70 clients) with a single server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, functioning as both domain controller and file server. The educational pricing for Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 is irresistible as a managed anti-malware solution, but it requires System Center Configuration Manager 2007. I know best practice is not to run System Center Configuration Manager on a domain controller, but it's the only server I have to work with. Will installing SCCM on a domain controller cause problems? What conflicts might I need to take into account when planning deployment?

No desktop support, no Network Administration (administrated separately), running N+1 and serving more than 250 Billion page views annually.   We are starting to develop a new application and I'm searching for information/tips/guides on application architecture. Application should: read the data from an external (USB) device send the data to the remote server (through internet) receive the data from the remote server perform a video call with to the calling (support) center receive a video call call from the calling (support) center support touch screens In addition: some of the data should also be visible through the web page. So I was thinking about: On the server side: use the database (probably MS SQL) use ORM (nHibernate) to map the data from the DB to the domain objects create a layer with business logic in C# create a web (WCF) services (for client application) create an asp.net mvc application (for item 7.) to enable data view through the browser On the client side I would use WPF 4 application which will communicate with external device and the wcf services on the server. So far so good. Now the problem begins. I have no idea how to create a video call (outgoing or incoming) part of the application. I believe that there is no problem to communicate with microphone, speaker, camera with WPF/C#. But how to communicate with the call center? What protocol and encoding should be used? I think that I will need to create some kind of server which will: have a list of operators in the calling center and track which operator is occupied and which operator is free have a list of connected end users receive incoming calls from end users and delegate call to free operator delegate calls from calling center to the end user Any info, link, anything on where to start would be much appreciated.   I have a div with a background image that needs to be centered horizontally and vertically. On top of that image, I also want to display a 1-line text, also centered horizontally and vertically. I managed to get the image centered, but the text is not centered vertically. I thought vertical-align:middle would do the trick. When I am in horizontal orientation my modal view does not appear in the center of the screen. I have to dismiss my keyboard for the modal view to appear in the center. • Synaptic: Requires installation of untrusted packages

  I am completely new to the forums and almost completely new to Linux. I am running Chrubuntu on an Acer C7 and I've been having trouble installing anything in the Ubuntu Software Center. Based on some advice in another thread I tried to install Synaptic, which seems like it does the same thing except it actually works, but I get the same error message with that as I have with every other program I've tried installing. This is all I get under the details: libept1.4.12 librarian0 rarian-compat synaptic Any help with some simple step by step instructions on how to fix this, and will Synaptic basically be able to replace the Software Center? • How to reinstall many removed packages at once?

  I used sudo apt-get remove python command and accidently removed a bunch of packages that were required. I logged in via command line and installed ubuntu-desktop again but there are other packages that are missing, and I'm looking for a way to easily reinstall those removed packages. Since there's the log at software-center I wanted to ask what the easiest way might be to roll back changes or extract the removed packages list from the software center... note: I typed sudo apt-get install .... .... ... ... for about two dozen of those removed programs in that list, but when I pressed enter it didn't install any of them because some package names couldn't be found. The programs were removed at the same date.

• Packages don't show up after adding ppa

  I added ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/firefox-aurora/ubuntu oneiric and ppa:banshee-team/ppa/ubuntu oneiric to my software sources, then did apt-get update. However, after selecting their specific sources from the menu in Software Center, the only packages available are language packs and extensions for Banshee and firefox-aurora. I had already uninstalled Banshee and Firefox. If I try and install Banshee/Aurora with sudo apt-get it will install the old version. Searching for Banshee/Aurora in Software Center only shows the old version. I'm guessing the packages in the PPAs conflict with the packages in the main sources. How do I install the newer versions?

• What is the most secure way to archive a GKScore to be re-submitted later?

  I'm looking for the safest way to archive and store a GKScore that needs to be re-submitted to Game Center (say, because the user didn't have a network connection at the time the score was earned). I would like to archive the GKScore instance in case the app is terminated before it can be successfully re-submitted to Game Center. My worry is that if it's archived to an instance of NSData and saved in a .plist, it would be easy to manipulate. Perhaps this worry is unjustified? • Dash doesn't recognize that application is installed

  I've installed Geary from the software center, but I can't launch it from the Dash nor did I manage to create an app icon on the Launcher. The Software center has no problem seeing that the app is installed (see screenshot) Running the command "geary" will launch the app. Is there any way I can force the Dash to function properly? Thanks, Calixte PS: Does anyone know what this problem is related to? I tried re-installing the app and restarting the computer but that has no effect at all. I have practically installed nothing on this computer, so I can't imagine what app could interfere with the Dash

• Why does the BADSIG/"Untrusted sources" error recur forever?

  On at least a dozen occasions, I've spent 2-3 hours figuring out how to get Ubuntu 11.10-12.10 to either update or acquire software from software center, or both. I want to fix whatever is causing the BADSIG problem once and for all; I've wasted so much time trying to get this to work well enough that I can rely on it, but the same problem comes back after a couple weeks of normal updates and software center usage. Don't refer me to a standard posted solution on the web---whatever it is, I've used it more times than you have. The question isn't whether I can get it to work right this afternoon. I can. The question is what is causing the problem to recur regularly across 3 releases. Notice: I use this computer 4-5 hours per week and I do little on it. PDFs, Latex, FireFox, Mendeley, and that's it. I don't constantly install new software, and I don't fiddle with things unnecessarily.

• Will modem manager be updated in 12.04 LTS to release 0.6.0 or above by Canonical?

  It is still stuck at release 0.5.2 since early last year, while release 0.6.0 does not seem to be progressed to a stable release for 12.04 LTS. Any plans for the update to occur before the end of the year? In a related but separate question, I note that the latest Modem Manager GUI (0.0.16) has now been released for Saucy Salamander in its Software Center, but still with the older 0.0.13 version for Precise's Software Center - why does it not follow suit? Perhaps Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre or Graham Inggs can offer some help with answers if no one else can? Thanks in advance!

  I installed Skype on my nephew's new Ubuntu 14.04 LTS machine, and now we've decided to remove it. But I'm not able to locate it in my Installed programs section of Ubuntu Software Center. I'm able to call it up by opening the debian package, Software Center opens it up, but where I would normally see the "Remove" button, I have a "Reinstall" button. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to uninstall Skype. Any suggestions? In case you're wondering I used the version of Skype designed for 12.xx, as there was no option available for Ubuntu 14.xx.

• SharePoint Records Center Submitted E-mail Records not picked up

  We have set up a new SharePoint 2007 site with a Records Repository. We're using Exchange 2007 Managed Folders to route e-mails to this repository based on the 'label' attached to the e-mail as set in the Exchange 2007 journaling options. E-mails added to a Managed Folder get sent to SharePoint, they end up in the "Submitted E-mail Records" list of the Records Repository. That's according to plan, but the e-mails are not routed to the respective document library as defined by the label. Instead an error appears in the event viewer for every e-mail listed in the Submitted E-mail Records list, on every interval of the records repository schedule (set to every two minutes for testing purposes): Value cannot be null, parameter name: g. Sending a document from the SharePoint site iself to the Records Repository via the Send To... link works fine, but e-mails get stuck in the list... We have set Document Libraries in the Respository with and without content types (with matching names with the Label and the Record Routing rule set). Any ideas what could be wrong? This is in the event log: Every two minutes the following error appears in the Application Log: Source: Office SharePoint Server Category: Records Center Type: Error Event ID: 4975 User: N/A Computer: SPS2007 Description: Value cannot be null.
