  • Most scalable way of serving a small set of static HTTP content

    - by Ekevoo
    The story: Hi guys. I'm among the people responsible for serving the results of the most anticipated (by number of people participating) annual entrance exam in my state. As such, when our results are published, the interest is overwhelming. In the past we delegated the responsibility of serving the results to the media, but that spoils a little the officialness of these results. This year we went with a little (long overdue) experiment of using lighttpd instead of Apache as well as other physical network optimizations I wasn't directly involved with. The results were very satisfactory. The server didn't choke even once, nor we saw any of the usual Twitter complaints on unavailability and/or slowness that were previously common. However, because we still delegated the first publication of the results to the media I'm still not 100% sure we can handle the load of actually publishing the results first. The question: Now because these files are like 14MB in total and a true lightweight Linux distribution isn't that big either, I'm thinking: what if next year we run full RAMdrive? Is there any? Is that useful? Is that worth it for a team that uses Debian almost exclusively? Are there other optimizations that I should be focusing on instead?

  • I (stupidly) converted a TrueCrypt encrypted disk to GPT in Disk Management: now TrueCrypt won't mount it

    - by asilentfire
    Backstory: After moving a Macrium Reflect disk image from my TrueCrypt external drive (with whole disk encryption) onto a unencrypted drive and using Windows PE with Macrium Reflect to restore my internal disk to the recovery image on the external unencrypted drive, my Windows 8 failed to boot. I then went back and also recovered the System Partition (looking now, it is currently EFI), but I still couldn't boot into my backup.. I was in a hurry to get online for something so I just did a clean install of Windows 8, without the backup.. After I installed Windows 8, I went into Disk Management out of curiosity to see if there were other partitions with Windows 8 that Macruim might have missed, and there is (by default) a Recovery Partition of 100MB. My memory of this is hazy, as I was trying to get up and running for an exam at 4 AM: Something in Disk Management prompted me to convert my encrypted external drive to GPT.. I have no idea why I did this, but I went ahead and allowed it to convert my TrueCrypt drive to GPT. Now, I can't mount the drive in TrueCrypt.. Disk Management sees it as Disk 1, Basic, and Unallocated. I tried converting it back to MBR with Disk Management, but no dice with TrueCrypt :( If I try to mount the disk in TrueCrypt I get the message: Incorrect password or not a TrueCrypt volume I should never have messed with a Truecrypt drive in Disk Management, but I did. I have important college work in that drive, and fear I have lost it forever. PLEASE HELP

  • Android ListView: getTag() returns null

    - by TianDong
    Hallo all, I have a ListView which contains a Button in each line. The following code is part of the getView() Method public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View row = convertView; TextView tv; Button saveA_button; EditText edittext; FITB_ViewWrapper wrapper; if (row == null) { LayoutInflater li = (LayoutInflater) getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); if (ChooseMode_Act.modeInfo.equalsIgnoreCase("Training")) { row = li.inflate(R.layout.exercise_for_training_fitb,parent, false); }else { row = li.inflate(R.layout.exercise_for_exam_fitb,parent, false); } wrapper=new FITB_ViewWrapper(row); row.setTag(wrapper); if (ChooseMode_Act.modeInfo.equalsIgnoreCase("Exam")) { saveA_button=wrapper.getSaveAnswer_Button(); OnClickListener l=new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Integer mp=(Integer)v.getTag(); Log.i("mp","my Position is: "+mp); } }; saveA_button.setOnClickListener(l); } }else { wrapper=(FITB_ViewWrapper) row.getTag(); } For my App i need to known to which item the Button belongs to, so i try to detect it. The code Log.i("mp","my Position is: "+mp); puts out a message: mp myPosition is: null I can't understand, why do i get a "null" but not an Integer? How can i find out the Position of an Item in a ListView? Thanks a lot.

  • Max Value of a Multiway Tree in OCaml

    - by Trigork
    I'm an IT Student and kind of a newbie to OCaml Recently, studying for an exam I found this exercise. Given: type 'a tree = Tree of 'a * 'a tree list Define a function mtree : 'a tree -'a, that returns the greatest value of all the nodes in a multiway tree, following the usual order relation in OCaml (<=) I've come to do something like this below, which, of course, is not working. let rec mtree (Tree (r, sub)) = let max_node (Tree(a, l1)) (Tree(b, l2)) = if a >= b then (Tree(a, l1)) else (Tree(b, l2)) in List.fold_left max_node r sub;; After reading an answer to this I'm posting the fixed code. let rec mtree (Tree(r,sub)) = let max_node (Tree(a, l1)) (Tree(b, l2)) = if a >= b then a else b in List.fold_left (max_node) r (List.map mtree sub);; The idea is the same, fold the list comparing the nodes making use of my local function to do so and travel through the tree by calling the function itself over the nodes lists of the consecutive levels. Is still not working, though. Now complains about max_node in the fold_left part. Error: This expression has type 'a tree -> 'a tree -> 'a but an expression was expected of type 'a tree -> 'a tree -> 'a tree And here I'm definitely lost because I can't see why does it expects to return an 'a tree

  • Batch program not running correctly in Windows 7

    - by Jennifer Heidelberger
    I am currently trying to figure out how to get a batch file to run correctly in Windows 7. I have looked on the Internet and have not had much success in finding any useful information on the issue I am encountering. BATCH FILE – The batch file is to open a window to allow students to test on a TDSM server created by ETS eCBT – The test is a CLEP Exam. The batch file is to open the workstation for students to use and it looks like it loads but the Welcome/Login Screen never appears as it should. WSK_LOAD.BAT @echo off rem-------------------------------------------------------------------- rem !!! DO NOT REMOVE OR MODIFY THIS FILE !!! rem !!! THIS FILE IS USED BY THE eCBT SYSTEM !!! rem-------------------------------------------------------------------- SET ECBT_DEFAULT_SERVER_NAME=WR-TESTING1 SET ECBT_BATCH_HOME=C:\ETSBATCH SET ECBT_HOME=\\WR-TESTING1\tdms set ECBT_LOGFILE=%ECBT_BATCH_HOME%\wsk.log SET ECBT_CLIENT_VERSION=4.0 rem---------------------------------------------------------------------- if exist %ECBT_HOME%\client\bin\wks.bat goto avail echo Cannot access %ECBT_HOME%! echo Attempting to open the share … echo If you see the share window, please close it to proceed … rem------------------------------------------------------------------------ :avail %ECBT_HOME%\client\bin\wks.bat I have tried everything I can think of: Run as Administrator, Moved files to run from the HD, made sure all files and folders associated with the program were shared with users and computers, had Windows 7 run compatibility which says it does not contain an .exe file to run, and re-wrote the file. I know it is connecting to the TDMS server as I can see it on the server. The only thing it does not do is bring up the window which is necessary to login to the testing server. The window opens like it should but does not produce the login boxes. Any and all help is appreciated, Jennifer

  • How to add and remove nested model fields dynamically using Haml and Formtastic

    - by Brightbyte8
    We've all seen the brilliant complex forms railscast where Ryan Bates explains how to dynamically add or remove nested objects within the parent object form using Javascript. Has anyone got any ideas about how these methods need to be modified so as to work with Haml Formtastic? To add some context here's a simplified version of the problem I'm currently facing: # Teacher form (which has nested subject forms) [from my application] - semantic_form_for(@teacher) do |form| - form.inputs do = form.input :first_name = form.input :surname = form.input :city = render 'subject_fields', :form => form = link_to_add_fields "Add Subject", form, :subjects # Individual Subject form partial [from my application] - form.fields_for :subjects do |ff| #subject_field = ff.input :name = ff.input :exam = ff.input :level = ff.hidden_field :_destroy = link_to_remove_fields "Remove Subject", ff # Application Helper (straight from Railscasts) def link_to_remove_fields(name, f) f.hidden_field(:_destroy) + link_to_function(name, "remove_fields(this)") end def link_to_add_fields(name, f, association) new_object = f.object.class.reflect_on_association(association).klass.new fields = f.fields_for(association, new_object, :child_index => "new_#{association}") do |builder| render(association.to_s.singularize + "_fields", :f => builder) end link_to_function(name, h("add_fields(this, \"#{association}\", \"#{escape_javascript(fields)} \")")) end #Application.js (straight from Railscasts) function remove_fields(link) { $(link).previous("input[type=hidden]").value = "1"; $(link).up(".fields").hide(); } function add_fields(link, association, content) { var new_id = new Date().getTime(); var regexp = new RegExp("new_" + association, "g") $(link).up().insert({ before: content.replace(regexp, new_id) }); } The problem with implementation seems to be with the javascript methods - the DOM tree of a Formtastic form differs greatly from a regular rails form. I've seen this question asked online a few times but haven't come across an answer yet - now you know that help will be appreciated by more than just me! Jack

  • CS Master's Degree Project vs. Thesis options

    - by Nwosh
    I'm doing a master's degree in computer science, and I'm currently at the point where I have to decide between the thesis and non-thesis options offered by my university. The thesis option was my first choice, it entails taking less courses but tends to take more time doing your thesis. The non-thesis option involves taking more coursework, taking a comprehensive exam, and doing a project in one semester with a faculty member. I'd like to pursue a PhD degree eventually (although not right away, I want to get some years of professional experience first), and I heard that having demonstrated the ability to work on a thesis helps a lot with admission (like: not doing thesis raises questions and suggests not being interested in research) and that the experience itself is very good. At the same time, almost everyone I know who did a thesis at my university took a long time (2-3 years), in theory it could be done in 1.5 years. I'm a part time student and I don't really want to spend so much time just getting a master's degree, I could still publish a few papers while working on the project option and I'd be done in a year or so, additionally, I heard having a master's degree with a project and more coursework is more desirable for the industry. So, when applying for a PhD degree in CS at some of the better universities, would the time spent working on the master's thesis help in getting me accepted? Or should I opt for the non-thesis option and hope that the extra coursework and publishing some papers would make up for not working on a thesis?

  • Recurrence relation solution

    - by Travis
    I'm revising past midterms for a final exam this week and am trying to make sense of a solution my professor posted for one of past exams. (You can see the original pdf here, question #6). I'm given the original recurrence relation T(m)=3T(n/2) + n and am told T(1) = 1. I'm pretty sure the solution I've been given is wrong in a few places. The solution is as follows: Let n=2^m T(2^m) = 3T(2^(m-1)) + 2^m 3T(2^(m-1)) = 3^2*T(2^(m-2)) + 2^(m-1)*3 ... 3^(m-1)T(2) = T(1) + 2*3^(m-1) I'm pretty sure this last line is incorrect and they forgot to multiply T(1) by 3^m. He then (tries to) sum the expressions: T(2^m) = 1 + (2^m + 2^(m-1)*3 + ... + 2*3(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m(1 + (3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m((3/2)^m-1)*(1/2) = 1 + 3^m - 2^(m-1) = 1 + n^log 3 - n/2 Thus the algorithm is big Theta of (n^log 3). I'm pretty sure that he also got the summation wrong here. By my calculations this should be as follows: T(2^m) = 2^m + 3 * 2^(m-1) + 3^2 * 2^(m-2) + ... + 3^m (3^m because 3^m*T(1) = 3^m should be added, not 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^m) = 2^m * sum of (3/2)^i from i=0 to m = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(3/2 - 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(1/2) = 2^(m+1) * 3^(m+1)/2^(m+1) - 2^(m+1) = 3^(m+1) - 2 * 2^m Replacing n = 2^m, and from that m = log n T(n) = 3*3^(log n) - 2*n n is O(3^log n), thus the runtime is big Theta of (3^log n) Does this seem right? Thanks for your help!

  • Defining Light Coordinates

    - by Zachary
    I took a Computer Graphics exam a couple of days ago which had extra credit question like the following: A light can be defined in one of two ways. It can be defined in world coordinates, e.g. a street light, or in the viewer (eye coordinates), e.g., a head-lamp worn by a miner. In either case the viewpoint can freely change. Describe how the light should be transformed different in these two cases. Since I won't get to see the results of this until after spring break, I thought I would ask here. It seems like the analogies being used are misleading - could you not define a light source that is located at the viewers eye in world coordinates just as well as you could in eye coordinates? I've been doing some research on how OpenGL handles light, and it seems as though it always uses eye coordinates - the ModelView matrix would be applied to any light in world coordinates. In that case the answer may just be that you would have to transform light defined in world coordinates into eye coordinates using something like the ModelView matrix, while light defined in eye coordinates would only need to be transformed by the projection matrix. Then again I could be totally under thinking (or over thinking this). Another thought I had is that it determines which way you render shadows, but that has more to do with the location of the light and its type (point, directional, emission, etc) than what coordinates it is represented in. Any ideas?

  • error C2512 in precompiled header file?

    - by SoloMael
    I'm having a ridiculously strange problem. When I try to run the program below, there's an error message that says: "error C2512: 'Record' : no appropriate default constructor available". And when I double-click it, it directs me to a precompiled read-only header file named "xmemory0". Do they expect me to change a read-only file? Here's the segment of code in the file it directs me to: void construct(_Ty *_Ptr) { // default construct object at _Ptr ::new ((void *)_Ptr) _Ty(); // directs me to this line } Here's the program: #include <iostream> #include <vector> #include <string> using namespace std; const int NG = 4; // number of scores struct Record { string name; // student name int scores[NG]; double average; // Calculate the average // when the scores are known Record(int s[], double a) { double sum = 0; for(int count = 0; count != NG; count++) { scores[count] = s[count]; sum += scores[count]; } average = a; average = sum / NG; } }; int main() { // Names of the class string names[] = {"Amy Adams", "Bob Barr", "Carla Carr", "Dan Dobbs", "Elena Evans"}; // exam scores according to each student int exams[][NG]= { {98, 87, 93, 88}, {78, 86, 82, 91}, {66, 71, 85, 94}, {72, 63, 77, 69}, {91, 83, 76, 60}}; vector<Record> records(5); return 0; }

  • how would you like computer science classes to be taught?

    - by aaa
    hello I am a graduate student now, and hopefully someday I will teach. my interests are C++, Python, embedded languages, and scientific computing. Meanwhile I daydream about how I would teach. I was not quite happy with my undergraduate university as I found many computer science classes lacking. so I would like to ask you, if you were a student, how would you like your computer science classes to be taught? I understand it is a very subjective question, but nevertheless I think it's important to know what people want. Some specific points I am interested in: should computer languages be taught explicitly, or should students be required to pick up language on their own? what is better for learning, tests, projects, some sort of take-home exam? how do you think classtime should be used? theory, introduction, explanations, etc.? do you think the group projects are important? how much about computer architecture do you want to learn in computer science class, not necessarily assembler class. should particular operating system/editor be mandated or encouraged? Thanks thank you for your comments. Question has been closed because it is a discussion question rather than Q&A. If you know appropriate website for discussions of such sort with low noise ratio, please let me know.

  • Learning Basic Mathematics

    - by NeedsToKnow
    I'm going to just come out and say it. I'm 20 and can't do maths. Two years ago I passed the end-of-high-school mathematics exam (but not at school), and did pretty well. Since then, I haven't done a scrap of mathematics. I wondered just how bad I had gotten, so I was looking at some simple algebra problems. You know, the kind you learn halfway through highschool. 5(-3x - 2) - (x - 3) = -4(4x + 5) + 13 Couldn't do them. I've got half a year left until I start a Computer Science undergraduate degree. I love designing and creating programs, and I remember I loved mathematics back when I did it. Basically, I've had a pretty bad education, but I want to be knowledgable in these areas. I was thinking of buying some high school textbooks and reading them, but I'm not sure this is the right way to go. I need to start off at some basic level and work towards a greater understanding. My question is: What should I study, how should I study, and what books can you recommend? Thanks!

  • Can someone confirm how Microsoft Excel 2007 internally represents numbers?

    - by Jon
    I know the IEEE 754 floating point standard by heart as I had to learn it for an exam. I know exactly how floating point numbers are used and the problems that they can have. I can manually do any operation on the binary representation of floating point numbers. However, I have not found a single source which unambiguously states that excel uses 64 bit floating point numbers to internally represent every single cell "type" in excel except for text. I have no idea whether some of the types use signed or unsigned integers and some use 64 bit floating point. I have found literally trillions of articles which 1) describe floating point numbers and then 2) talk about being careful with excel because of floating point numbers. I have not found a single statement saying "all types are 64 bit floating point numbers except text". I have not found a single statement which says "changing the type of a cell only changes its visual representation and not its internal representation, unless you change the type from text to some other type which is not text or you change some other type which is not text to text". This is literally all I want to know, and it's so simple and axiomatic that I am amazed that I can find trillions of articles and pages which talk around these statements but do not state them directly.

  • Need some clarification on the ANSI/SPARC 3-tier database architecture.

    - by Moonshield
    Hi there, I'm currently revising for a databases exam and looking over some past papers, but there's one question that I'm slightly unsure about and was wondering if someone could offer some assistance. "Describe EACH of the THREE levels of the ANSI SPARC 3 level architecture. Your answer should include the purpose of EACH of the schemas, the level of abstraction they provide and the software tools that would be used to access and support them." As I understand it (although please correct me if I'm wrong): the internal schema specifies the physical storage of the data; the conceptual schema specifies the structure of the database and the domains; and the external schemas are how the database is viewed by "users" (applications, etc.). As for the abstraction, I understand that the conceptual layer means that the physical data storage can be altered without the end user being affected, likewise the The bit that I'm not sure about is what tools are used to access and support each layer. Would the internal schema be handled by the DBMS, the conceptual schema handled by some sort of DDL interpreter and the external schema handled by a DML interpreter (or have I misunderstood what each level does)? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Moonshield

  • Is there any need for me to use wstring in the following case

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
    Currently, I am developing an app for a China customer. China customer are mostly switch to GB2312 language in their OS encoding. I need to write a text file, which will be encoded using GB2312. I use std::ofstream file I compile my application under MBCS mode, not unicode. I use the following code, to convert CString to std::string, and write it to file using ofstream std::string Utils::ToString(CString& cString) { /* Will not work correctly, if we are compiled under unicode mode. */ return (LPCTSTR)cString; } To my surprise. It just works. I thought I need to at least make use of wstring. I try to do some investigation. Here is the MBCS.txt generated. I try to print a single character named ? (its value is 0xBDC5) When I use CString to carry this character, its length is 2. When I use Utils::ToString to perform conversion to std::string, the returned string length is 2. I write to file using std::ofstream My question is : When I exam MBCS.txt using a hex editor, the value is displayed as BD (LSB) and C5 (MSB). But I am using little endian machine. Isn't hex editor should show me C5 (LSB) and BD (MSB)? I check from wikipedia. GB2312 seems doesn't specific endianness. It seems that using std::string + CString just work fine for my case. May I know in what case, the above methodology will not work? and when I should start to use wstring?

  • Am I doing something wrong here (references in C++)?

    - by m4design
    I've been playing around with references (I'm still having issues in this regard). 1- I would like to know if this is an acceptable code: int & foo(int &y) { return y; // is this wrong? } int main() { int x = 0; cout << foo(x) << endl; foo(x) = 9; // is this wrong? cout << x << endl; return 0; } 2- Also this is from an exam sample: Week & Week::highestSalesWeek(Week aYear[52]) { Week max = aYear[0]; for(int i = 1; i < 52; i++) { if (aYear[i].getSales() > max.getSales()) max = aYear[i]; } return max; } It asks about the mistake in this code, also how to fix it. My guess is that it return a local reference. The fix is: Week & max = aYear[0]; Is this correct/enough?

  • Jumping onto next string when the condition is met

    - by user98235
    This was a problem related to one of the past topcoder exam problems called HowEasy. Let's assume that we're given a sentence, for instance, "We a1re really awe~~~some" I just wanted to take get rid of every word in the sentence that doesn't contain alphabet characters, so in the above sentence, the desired output would be "We really" The below is the code I wrote (incomplete), and I don't know how to move on to the next string when the condition (the string contains a character that's not alphabet) is met. Could you suggest some revisions or methods that would allow me to do that? vect would be the vector of strings containing the desired output string param; cin>>param; stringstream ss(param); vector<string> vect; string c; while(ss >> c){ for(int i=0; i < c.length(); i++){ if(!(97<=int(c[i])&&int(c[i])<=122) && !(65<=int(c[i])&&int(c[i])<=90)){ //I want to jump onto next string once the above condition is met //and ignore string c; } vect.push_back(c); if (ss.peek() == ' '){ ss.ignore(); } } }

  • ASP.NET javascript embed in template column

    - by Mahesh
    Hi, I am developing a web page in which a rad grid displays the list of exams. I included a template column which shows count down timer when the exam is going to expire. Code is as given below: <telerik:RadGrid ID="radGrid" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="false"> <MasterTableView> <Columns> <telerik:GridTemplateColumn HeaderText="template" DataField="Date"> <ItemTemplate> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> TargetDate = '<%# Eval("Date") %>'; BackColor = "white"; ForeColor = "black"; CountActive = true; CountStepper = -1; LeadingZero = true; DisplayFormat = "%%D%% Days, %%H%% Hours, %%M%% Minutes, %%S%% Seconds."; FinishMessage = "It is finally here!"; </script> <script language="JavaScript" src="http://scripts.hashemian.com/js/countdown.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </ItemTemplate> </telerik:GridTemplateColumn> </Columns> </MasterTableView> </telerik:RadGrid> I am giving DataTable as datasource to this grid. But my problem is , the template column is showing data only for the first record and the value taken is from the last row in the DataTable. For Ex: If I give data as given below, I can see 3 records but with only the first record displaying the counter with last value(10/10/2010 05:43 PM). 02/02/2011 01:00 AM 08/09/2010 11:00 PM 10/10/2010 05:43 PM Could you please help in this?? • How do I pass three arrays from on method to another?

    - by user2966716
    I have a method studentSummary, that scans the input and creates three arrays examMark,courseworkMark and courseworkWeight. I need these arrays passing over to a different method, so I can use them to calculate moduleResult. heres my code: public static int[] studentSummary(int[] courseworkWeight2, int [] examMark2 , int [] courseworkMark2){ int examMark[] = { 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 }; int courseworkMark[] = { 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 }; Scanner resultInput = new Scanner(System.in); int courseworkWeight[] = { 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0 }; for (int k = 1; k < 7; k++) { System.out.print("Please enter exam marks for module " + k + ":"); examMark[k - 1] = resultInput.nextInt(); System.out.print("Please enter Coursework marks for module " + k + ":"); courseworkMark[k - 1] = resultInput.nextInt(); System.out.print("Please enter Coursework weighting for module " + k + ":"); courseworkWeight[k - 1] = resultInput.nextInt(); } Calculator method: public static int[] markCalculator() { int[] courseworkWeight = new int [6]; int[] courseworkMark = new int [6]; int[] examMark = new int [6]; for (int i = 0; i < 6; i++) { computedModuleMark = ((courseworkMark[i] * courseworkWeight[i]) + (examMark[i] * (100 - courseworkWeight[i]))) / 100; if ((computedModuleMark) < 35) { if (examMark[i]<35){ } } moduleMark[i] = computedModuleMark; } computeResult(moduleMark); StudentChart.draw(moduleMark); StudentChart.printSummary(moduleMark); return moduleMark; }

  • Issue with post data not received in a php page

    - by jul
    hi, I created a page in Wordpress (http://www.exam-vision.com/testmail) that sends POST data to itself in order to send an email. The code is shown below. While it seems that data are sent properly, it seems that they are not received since isset($_REQUEST['email']) is always false. Anybody could help? Thanks Jul <?php if (isset($_REQUEST['email'])) //if "email" is filled out, send email { //send email echo "isset email is true"; $email = $_REQUEST['email'] ; $subject = $_REQUEST['subject'] ; $message = $_REQUEST['message'] ; mail( "[email protected]", "Subject: $subject", $message, "From: $email" ); echo "Thank you for using our mail form"; } else //if "email" is not filled out, display the form { echo "<form method='post' action=''> Email: <input name='email' type='text' /><br /> Subject: <input name='subject' type='text' /><br /> Message:<br /> <textarea name='message' rows='15' cols='40'> </textarea><br /> <input type='submit' /> </form>"; } ?>

  • How to distribute ranking using MySQL Query and PHP

    - by nkp
    I have to distribute ranking to the 5000 students in an exam. Ranking is based on the score and the time taken (in seconds) to obtain that score. For example is 5 students have same score, then taken will be the criteria to calculate their ranks otherwise score should be the criteria to calculate their ranks. Following is my table tbRank ID StudID Score Time Date Rank 1 11 8 60 09-11-2013 2 22 6 45 09-11-2013 3 33 4 76 09-11-2013 4 44 6 67 09-11-2013 5 55 8 35 09-11-2013 6 66 8 35 08-11-2013 7 77 8 39 08-11-2013 Now rank column in above table should be updated as: ID StudID Score Time Date Rank 1 11 8 60 09-11-2013 2 2 22 6 45 09-11-2013 3 3 33 4 76 09-11-2013 5 4 44 6 67 09-11-2013 4 5 55 8 35 09-11-2013 1 6 66 8 35 08-11-2013 1 7 77 8 39 08-11-2013 2 I want to make a MySQL Query to do this business. Similarly there can be more than 10000 records in the table. So I need an optimized query for this functionality. Note: I am using PHP and MYSQL. Update: Everyday almost 5000 new entries will be created in the table and after all insertions are made, rank column will be updated once in a day. Now please suggest me the best way to do this. If I update rank column in the table, then only once I will have to do it, otherwise everytime while fetching the rank of the student, I will have to make calculations.

  • How to create a link to Nintex Start Workflow Page in the document set home page

    - by ybbest
    In this blog post, I’d like to show you how to create a link to start Nintex Workflow Page in the document set home page. 1. Firstly, you need to upload the latest version of jQuery to the style library of your team site. 2. Then, upload a text file to the style library for writing your own html and JavaScript 3. In the document set home page, insert a new content editor web part and link the text file you just upload. 4. Update the text file with the following content, you can download this file here. <script type="text/javascript" src="/Style%20Library/jquery-1.9.0.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/_layouts/sp.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { listItemId=getParameterByName("ID"); setTheWorkflowLink("YBBESTDocumentLibrary"); }); function buildWorkflowLink(webRelativeUrl,listId,itemId) { var workflowLink =webRelativeUrl+"_layouts/NintexWorkflow/StartWorkflow.aspx?list="+listId+"&ID="+itemId+"&WorkflowName=Start Approval"; return workflowLink; } function getParameterByName(name) { name = name.replace(/[\[]/, "\\\[").replace(/[\]]/, "\\\]"); var regexS = "[\\?&]" + name + "=([^&#]*)"; var regex = new RegExp(regexS); var results = regex.exec(window.location.search); if(results == null){ return ""; } else{ return decodeURIComponent(results[1].replace(/\+/g, " ")); } } function setTheWorkflowLink(listName) { var SPContext = new SP.ClientContext.get_current(); web = SPContext.get_web(); list = web.get_lists().getByTitle(listName); SPContext.load(web,"ServerRelativeUrl"); SPContext.load(list, 'Title', 'Id'); SPContext.executeQueryAsync(setTheWorkflowLink_Success, setTheWorkflowLink_Fail); } function setTheWorkflowLink_Success(sender, args) { var listId = list.get_id(); var listTitle = list.get_title(); var webRelativeUrl = web.get_serverRelativeUrl(); var startWorkflowLink=buildWorkflowLink(webRelativeUrl,listId,listItemId) $("a#submitLink").attr('href',startWorkflowLink); } function setTheWorkflowLink_Fail(sender, args) { alert("There is a problem setting up the submit exam approval link"); } </script> <a href="" target="_blank" id="submitLink"><span style="font-size:14pt">Start the approval process.</span></a> 5. Save your changes and go to the document set Item, you will see the link is on the home page now. Notes: 1. You can create a link to start the workflow using the following build dynamic string configuration: {Common:WebUrl}/_layouts/NintexWorkflow/StartWorkflow.aspx?list={Common:ListID}&ID={ItemProperty:ID}&WorkflowName=workflowname. With this link you will still need to click the start button, this is standard SharePoint behaviour and cannot be altered.
