    Hi, I'm struggling to convert the below code to C#. Class Class1 Implements IMyInterface Public Event MyEvent(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As MyEventArgs) Implements IMyInterface.MyEvent Public Sub New() AddHandler Me.Slider.ValueChanged, AddressOf OnSliderValueChanged End Sub Private Sub OnSliderValueChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) RaiseEvent MyEvent(Me, New MyEventArgs()) End Sub End Class Here's what visual studio inserts when I ask it to implement for me: event EventHandler<MyEventArgs> IMyInterface.MyEvent { add { throw new NotImplementedException(); } remove { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } With a bit of googling I'm sure I can find out what to replace the NotImplementedException parts with but VS is still telling me that the definition is not implemented anyway.

  • Behaviour to simulate an enum implementing an interface

    Say I have an enum something like: enum OrderStatus { AwaitingAuthorization, InProduction, AwaitingDespatch } I've also created an extension method on my enum to tidy up the displayed values in the UI, so I have something like: public static string ToDisplayString(this OrderStatus status) { switch (status) { case Status.AwaitingAuthorization: return "Awaiting Authorization"; case Status.InProduction: return "Item in Production"; ... etc } } Inspired by the excellent post here, I want to bind my enums to a SelectList with an extension method: public static SelectList ToSelectList<TEnum>(this TEnum enumObj) however, to use the DisplayString values in the UI drop down I'd need to add a constraint along the lines of : where TEnum has extension ToDisplayString Obviously none of this is going to work at all with the current approach, unless there's some clever trick I don't know about. Does anyone have any ideas about how I might be able to implement something like this?

  • How can I simplify this user interface?

    I'm writing an internal-tools webapp; one of the central pages in this tool has a whole bunch of related commands the user can execute by clicking one of a number of buttons on the page, like this: Ideally, all of the buttons would fit on one line. Ordinarily I'd do this by changing each widget from a button with a (sometimes long) text label to a simple, compact icon - e.g. could be replaced by a familiar disk icon: Unfortunately, I don't think I can do this for every button on this particular page. Some of the command buttons just don't have good visual analogs - "VDS List". Or, if I needed to add another button in the future for some other kind of list, I'd need two icons that both communicate "list-ness" and which list. So, I'm still considering this option, but I don't love it. So it's come time for me to add yet another button to this section (don't you love internal tools?). There's not enough room on that single line to fit the new button. Aside from the icon solution I already mentioned, what would be a good* way to simplify/declutter/reduce or otherwise improve this UI? *As per Jakob Nielsen's article, I'd like to think that a dropdown menu is not the solution.

    How does a computer perform a multiplication on 2 numbers say 100 * 55. My guess was that the computer did repeated addition to achieve multiplication. Of course this could be the case for integer numbers. However for floating point numbers there must be some other logic. Note: This was asked in an interview.

The New Zealand Herald reports on the creation of the lamp, seen in action in the video above: The project is a collaborative effort by Victoria University students Shanshan Zhou, Adam Ben-Gur and Joss Doggett, who met in a Physical Computing class. The lamp’s movements are informed by a webcam with an algorithm working behind it. Robotics and facial recognition technology enable the lamp to search for faces in the images from its webcam.   • Change the User Interface Language in Vista or Windows 7

    Would you like to change the user interface language in any edition of Windows 7 or Vista on your computer?  Here’s a free app that can help you do this quickly and easily. If your native language is not the one most spoken in your area, you’ve likely purchased a PC with Windows preinstalled with a language that is difficult or impossible for you to use.  Windows 7 and Vista Ultimate include the ability to install multiple user interface languages and switch between them. However, all other editions are stuck with the language they shipped with.  With the free Vistalizator app, you can add several different interface languages to any edition of Vista or Windows 7 and easily switch between them. Note:  In this test, we used an US English copy of both Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows Vista Home Premium, and it works the same on any edition. The built-in language switching in the Ultimate Editions lets you set a user interface language for each user account, but this will only switch it for all users.  Add a User Interface Language to Windows To add an interface language to any edition of Windows 7 and Vista, first download Vistalizator (link below).  Then, from the same page, download the language pack of your choice.  The language packs are specific for each service pack of Windows, so make sure to choose the correct version and service pack you have installed. Once the downloads are finished, launch the Vistalizator program. You do not need to install it; simply run it and you’re ready to go.  Click the Add languages button to add a language to Windows. Select the user interface language pack you downloaded, and click Open. Depending on the language you selected, it may not automatically update with Windows Update when a service pack is released.  If so, you will have to remove the language pack and reinstall the new one for that service pack at that time.  Click Ok to continue. Make sure you’ve selected the correct language, and click Install language. Vistalizator will extract and install the language pack.  This took around 5 to 10 minutes in our test. Once the language pack is installed, click Yes to make it the default display language. Now, you have two languages installed in Windows.  You may be prompted to check for updates to the language pack; if so, click Update languages and Vistalizator will automatically check for and install any updates. When finished, exit Vistalizator to finish switching the language.  Click Yes to automatically reboot and apply the changes. When you computer reboots, it will show your new language, which in our test is Thai.  Here’s our Windows 7 Home Premium machine with the Thai language pack installed and running. You can even add a right to left language, such as Arabic, to Windows.  Simply repeat the steps to add another language pack.    Vistalizator was originally designed for Windows Vista, and works great with Windows 7 too.  The language packs for Vista are larger downloads than their Windows 7 counterparts.  Here’s our Vista Home Premium in English… And here’s how it looks after installing the Simplified Chinese language pack with Vistalizator. Revert to Your Original Language If you wish to return to the language that your computer shipped with, or want to switch to another language you’ve installed, run Vistalizator again.  Select the language you wish to use, and click Change language.   When you close Vistalizator, you will again be asked to reboot.  Once you’ve rebooted, you’ll see your new (or original) language ready to use.  Here’s our Windows 7 Home Premium desktop, back in it’s original English interface. Conclusion This is a great way to change your computer’s language into your own native language, and is especially useful for expatriates around the world.  Also, if you’d like to simply change or add an input language instead of changing the language throughout your computer, check out our tutorial on How to Add Keyboard Languages to XP, Vista, and Windows 7.   • Android -> Ruby Server Interface -> Mongodb

    I've been wrecking my brain about this for a few days. I'll run my scenario by you and hopefully you can help me. In my head this is how it goes: I have an Android App. I want my Android App to make (function) calls to a MongoDB database via a Ruby Interface on the Server. e.g. Android app sends a HTTP GET ? with the function name, let's say getFriends for this user Ruby Interface receives this request from the app, grabs a thread from a thread pool and calls the appropriate function call implemented in Ruby, to the Mongodb. Ruby Interface gets results from Mongodb and sends a HTML POST to the Android app. So that's how I think it works. I know about the ruby driver for mongo db, and interacting with the mongodb from ruby but, how do I make a ruby back end listen for incoming messages and should these messages be done through sockets or a http interface ala Net::http in ruby?

    I tried to connect over WiFi to SQL Server with SQL Server Management Studio from another computer, but it failed. I have a computer with Windows 7 & SQL Server 2008 (lets say the server computer). Next to it I have a freshly installed computer with Windows 7 & SQL Server Management Studio (let's say the client computer). What I did on the server computer: Configure firewall by enabling port 1433 Enabled network protocols (TCP/IP) inside SQL Server Configuration Manager Checked Allow remote connections to this server in server properties in the SQL Server Management application. Started SQL Server Browser Restarted services (SQL Server Browser is stopped at this point, but I don't think it is necessary. Is it?) Next, I successfully tested a ping on the port 1433 from my client computer with a tool named tcping (ex: tcping 192.168.1.4 1433). But I still cannot connect from my client computer to SQL Server on my server computer. Ok, something new with this problem: Until now, I successfully connected to my "server computer" with Management Studio. What I did is type the computer name in the server name field in the connection window of Management Studio. My previous (failed) attempt was to type the computer name followed by the instance of SQL server (ex: COMPUTER_NAME\SQL2008). I don't know why I only have to type the computer name. Now my new challenge is to be successful in connecting my VB6 application to this remote database located on my "server computer". I have a connection string for this but it failed to connect. Here is my connection string: "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=mypassword;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=TPB;Data Source=THIERRY-HP\SQL2008" Any idea what's going wrong?

  • Smoothwall Express interface issues

    I have a SmoothWall Express box that is currently configured with a Green and Purple interface. Both interfaces are in the same /24 subnet (which seems odd to me). The green interface (address of .254) has a DHCP server that is pushing addresses from .1 to .100 and the purple interface (.253) is pushing addresses from .101 to .120. Every machine here is trusted, and as such is connected to the green interface via a wired connection or wireless APs. Nothing is connected at all (port is physically empty, traffic graphs show no activity) to the purple interface. However, every machine here is pulling addresses from the purple interface. So the question boils down to, how do I remove/stop my machines from pulling from the purple dhcp interface? Also, shouldn't the purple interface (if we were using it for guest Wifi or something) be on a different subnet (i.e. 192.168.100.0/24 instead of 192.168.1.0/24 with all the trusted machines)?

  • Random number generation algorithm for human brains?

    Are you aware of, or have you devised, any practical, simple-to-learn "in-head" algorithms that let humans generate (somewhat "true") random numbers? By "in-head" I mean.. preferrably without any external tools or devices. Also, a high output (many random numbers per minute) is desirable. Asked this on SO but it didn't get much interest. Maybe this is better suited for programmers.. :) I'm genuinely curious about anything that people might have come up with on this problem.

  • A human-friendlier Samba name mangling

    Most of our computers run Ubuntu, but two of them dual-boot into Windows, and when we have guests over, they typically also run Windows computers. Thus, in addition to using NFS, our file server (Ubuntu server) also runs Samba. And since we use Ubuntu mostly, we like to take advantage of its advantages over Windows, such as being able to use the characters \:*?"<>| in a file name. The problem, of course, is that Windows doesn't accept those characters in file names, and so Samba has to translate the file name into something more acceptable. The way it does this, however, I find to be obnoxious. The file name Episode 182 - Exorcist 2: The Heretic.mp4 for instance turns into E4Q82R~Y.MP4. This is a terrible "correction". Is there a way to make Samba's mangling a little more friendly to humans? Is possible to "correct" it to something like Episode 182 - Exorcist 2_ The Heretic.mp4 instead, where the illegal characters are simply substituted?

  • UML Class Diagram: Abstract or Interface?

    I am modeling a class diagram and have spotted an opportunity to simplify it slightly. What I want to know is, would this it be better to implement an abstract class or an interface? The scenario is this, I have the classes: Artist Genre Album Song All of which share the methods getName, setName, and getCount (playcount that is). Would it be best to create an abstract 'Music' class with the aforementioned abstract methods, or should I create an interface, since the classes that implement the interface have to include all of the interface's methods (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). I hope I've given enough detail, please ask questions if I haven't. Thanks!

    I'm reading "Effective Java" by Josh Bloch and in there is Item 16 where he tells how to use inheritance in a correct way and by inheritance he means only class inheritance, not implementing interfaces or extend interfaces by other interfaces. I didn't find any mention of interface inheritance in the entire book. Does this mean that interface inheritance is always safe? Or there are guidlines for interface inheritance?

    I know how constructor and setter injection works in spring. Normally I use interfaces instead of classes to inject beans using setter and I consider it as interface injection, but in case of constructor we also use interfaces (I am confused). In following example I use JobProcessor interface instead of JobProcessorImpl class. public class JobScheduler { // JobProcessor interface private JobProcessor jobProcessor; // Dependecy injection public void setJobProcessor(JobProcessor jobProcessor){ this.jobProcessor = jobProcessor; } } I tried to find a solution by googling but there are different opinions by writers. Even some people says that spring doesn't support interface injection in their blogs/statements. Can someone help me by example?
