  • Streaming PDF via invocation of HTTPHandler using $.get into object element

    What I am trying to do is invoke an HTTPHandler via the $.get method of jQuery which will stream back a PDF and display it in a web page using an object element. My previous method of setting the src attribute of an IFrame to be the result of a handler invocation works, but I would like cross-browser completion notification, so have moved to using $.get(). Sample code: function buttonClick() { $.get("/PDFHandler.ashx", {}, function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) { var pdfObjectString = "<object data='' type='application/pdf' width='600' height='600'></object>"; var pdfObject = $(pdfObjectString); pdfObject.attr("data", data); $("#container").append(pdfObject); }); As you can see, I am attempting to stick the 'data' variable into an object element. This is not working (no error, PDF just doesn't display), presumably because the data that comes back is binary, yet the attr() method expects a string (I think). My question is thus: how can I invoke an HTTPHandler via $.get and somehow assign the data from the callback to the data attribute of an object?

  • What question(s) does an object's behavior answer?

    Reading a book I have found the following statement: (Object) Behaviors answer either of two questions: What does this object do (for me)? or What can I do to this object? In the case of an orange, it doesn’t do a whole lot, but we can do things to it. One behavior is that it can be eaten. In my understanding of object behaviour the statement above is correct regarding the first question and is incorrect in case of the second. However, I often see classes with methods like Orange::eat(), and this makes me uncertain about my design skills. So I would like to ask is it a design mistake to give oranges a behaviour eat? (oranges and eat are used just for example)

  • How to rebase one Git repository onto another one?

    Hi there! I had one Git repository (A) which contains the development of a project until a certain point. Then I lost the USB stick this repo A was on. Luckily I had a backup of the latest commit, so I could create a new repository (B) later where I imported the latest project's state and continue development. Now I recovered that lost USB stick, so I have two Git repositories. I think I just have to rebase repo B onto repo A somehow, but I have no idea how to do that, maybe using fetch/pull and rebase? I'm not sure which is the best way to go about creating and populating my custom javascript object. I've seen them created in two ways: function User() { this.Id; this.FirstName; this.LastName; this.Title; } and var User2 = { Id: null, FirstName: null, LastName: null, Title: null } I could populate each of these by doing something like: //first object User.Id = 1 //second object User2.FirstName = 'John' Is one method of creating the object better than the other?

    I remember reading a paper a long time ago that talked about object-oriented programming. I believe that this was from the early 1980s or perhaps even before then. This was at the time when object-oriented programming was still done through pre-processors, and one thing that stuck with me is this: it argued that you could write code in either procedural or object-oriented fashion, and after preprocessing/compiling, you would end up with the exact same machine code. Does anybody know which paper I'm talking about?

I have the databinding object 'A' and another object 'B'. public class SomeProxy { public SomeProxy(BindingSource A) { var b = new B(); } } public class B { public int SomePropertyFromA{get;set;} //Some autocalculated propeties, that are based on SomePropertyFromA //I want to reculculate them, when the SomePropertyFromA will be changed } 'B' object culculates some values, based on the property 'a' of the 'A' object. I want to bind property in object 'B' to the same property 'a' in 'A'. It's need to handle on changes of the 'a' property, because some UI controls are binded to 'B'-s properties. How can I do this?   • I cant add PPA repositories!

    For example, after running this command : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa I get the following output : Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/add-apt-repository", line 125, in <module> ppa_info = get_ppa_info_from_lp(user, ppa_name) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/softwareproperties/ppa.py", line 80, in get_ppa_info_from_lp curl.perform() pycurl.error: (6, "Couldn't resolve host 'launchpad.net'") Why is it so. I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. And it works fine. I have updated and installed the system. I have even installed all required packages. But the thing is as soon as I want to install more packages, Like PPA and sort I am not able to. Till now I have not been able to install any PPA. I am working behind a proxy.

    Sure, object-oriented techniques are great and have stuck around for a while. I know only less than a handful of critics of the OO principles. It seems as though most non-OO designs and architectures are shunned, yet we continue to write a lot of good software in C and solve a lot of data changes via awk/sed and countless other examples. Correct tool for the correct job, yes? I'm having a hard time finding articles, presentations, or published criticisms of OO (even Fred Brooks has blessed information hiding). Are there any well-known, published and/or outspoken critics of OO?

  • Package information was last updated 59 days ago even though Ubuntu is up to date

    I'm using ubuntu 11.10 and in the update manager I have a message that says package information last updated 59 days ago press the check button to check for software updates I do that, but i'm up to date. I checked other threads with this same problem, and saw i should do sudo apt-get update in a terminal to see which repository is not up to date and when I did, I got this message: Failed to fetch http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/oneiric/Release Then I checked for this repository in software sources but couldn't find this specific one. In my /etc/apt/sources.list.d I have only one line: deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu oneiric partner #Added by software-center So now I don't know what to do more. Should I upgrade to 12.04 and will it solve my problem? I wouldn't want to upgrade if there is a problem in the last version but I don't know much about Ubuntu so, can anyone help me please? Thank you!!

    Would you try to persuade your client that using object-oriented programming is much cleaner? Or would you try to follow what he required and give him crappy code? Now I am writing a program to simulate the activity of ants in a grid. The ant can move around, pick up things and drop things. The problem is while the action of the ants and the positions of each ant can be tracked by class attributes easily (and we can easily create many instances of such ants) my client said that since he has a background in functional programming he would like the simulation to be made using functional programming. What would you do?

We made a project on javaforge.com, created an svn repository and started developing our app. Right now we are really far with our project, but somehow we never worried if our project is really safe on such free development tool like javaforge ? I mean, what if our project would earn some money and the source code become valuable ? Could it be stolen or could somebody take it over ? We want to be sure that we are not wasting our time and want to be really sure about our project safety. Is it possible to safely develop a project in such free repository ?   • Setting Up Local Repository with TortoiseSVN in Windows

    I'm trying to set up a local repository so that all commitments are copied to the local destination, not a remote server. I followed this tutorial. What I did. Created a folder named "SVN_Repo" under C:\Documents and Settings[user-name]\My Documents\ Right clicked on the folder and chose TortoiseSVN -> Create repository here Clicked OK in the pop up dialog asking whether to create a directory structure. Created a folder named Repos for the local destination, under E:\ Right clicked on the SVN_Repo folder and chose SVN Checkout... Typed file:///E:\repos in the URL of repository field and clicked the OK button. What I got: Checkout from file:///E:/repos, revision HEAD, Fully recursive, Externals included Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'file:///E:/repos' Unable to open an ra_local session to URL Unable to open repository 'file:///E:/repos' I must be doing something wrong. Could somebody point it out? Thanks.
