• Sliding & Fading controls on a C# form

  Hey there, I'm trying to implement a way to slide&fade controls around (more than one at the same time possibly) elegantly. So in other words, say i had a picture in the top left corner, and a texbox in the bottom right corner, i'd like to be able to have them slide. not just snap. slide, to the opposite corners and replace eachothers position. Ive been working for awhile but have not come up with anything efficient, even just some of the basic math calculations would be a great start.

  Hi: What would be the insert SQL statement to merge data from two tables. For example I have events_source_1 table (columns: event_type_id, event_date) and events_source_2 table (same columns) and events_target table (columns: event_type_id, past_event_date nullalbe, future_event_date nullable). Events_source_1 has past events, Events_source_2 has future events and resultant events_target would contain past and future events in the same row for same event_type_id. If there is no past_events but future_events then past_event_date won't be set and only future_event_date will be and the opposite is true too. Thanks a lot in advance for helping me resolving this problem.

• Is there an easy way to do click-and-drag scrolling in text frames?

  I have a div with overflow:auto and a scroll bar, and I'd like to be able to drag the contents to scroll. I don't need to be able to select text. Is there an easy way to do this? A jQuery plugin would be good, otherwise plain old JavaScript would be fine. It seems I haven't made myself clear enough. There's a div with a fixed height that I want to scroll. Instead of picking up the scroll bar, I want to click and drag inside the text in the opposite direction. Like on an iPhone. • Specify sorting order for a GROUP BY query to retrieve oldest or newest record for each group

  I need to get the most recent record for each device from an upgrade request log table. A device is unique based on a combination of its hardware ID and its MAC address. I have been attempting to do this with GROUP BY but I am not convinced this is safe since it looks like it may be simply returning the "top record" (whatever SQLite or MySQL thinks that is). I had hoped that this "top record" could be hinted at by way of ORDER BY but that does not seem to be having any impact as both of the following queries returns the same records for each device, just in opposite order: SELECT extHwId, mac, created FROM upgradeRequest GROUP BY extHwId, mac ORDER BY created DESC SELECT extHwId, mac, created FROM upgradeRequest GROUP BY extHwId, mac ORDER BY created ASC Is there another way to accomplish this? I've seen several somewhat related posts that have all involved sub selects. If possible, I would like to do this without subselects as I would like to learn how to do this without that.

I found many great soltutions for sidebar menu. But these things are usually that sliding directions is not what I need. These way is similar to taskbar of 6.0 ios Version. • Pushing notifications to a JavaScript?

  I'm just wondering if there is a way to have a server push information to a JavaScript function. Essentially I have a Dashboard-type page that has a javaScript function to get updates from the server and update the dashboard. I would like my server to be able to "ping" the JS. I don't even know how that could be possible (I'm guessing Twitter and Facebook use polling?), but I'd thought I ask. I heard of Comet, but I don't know if that works with a plain standard IIS 7 installation? (It's a SharePoint 2010 site if that matters in any way) If I understand it correctly, Comet is essentially a constantly open connection, so it seems like it's actually the opposite of what I want (reducing # of requests and therefore load)

• What is the most efficient way to delete all selected items in a ListViewItem collection

  My user is able to select multiple items in a ListView collection that is configured to show details (that is, a list of rows). What I want to do is add a Delete button that will delete all of the selected items from the ListViewItem collection associated with the ListView. The collection of selected items is available in ListView.SelectedItems, but ListView.Items doesn't appear to have a single method that lets me delete the entire range. I have to iterate through the range and delete them one by one, which will potentially modify a collection I'm iterating over. Any hints? Edit: What I'm basically after is the opposite of AddRange().

  I got function in Flash (Action Script 3) - that makes snowflakes falling. Now i want to make this snowflakes appear on screen only for 3 seconds. So I'm trying to use Timer class but i got problem: var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(3000, 1); myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, snowflakes); myTimer.start(); function snowflakes(event:TimerEvent):void { //snowflakes faling function } In this case snowflakes appear after 3 seconds and stay on the stage forver...So its kinda opposite what i wanted. I want them to appear from the very beginning then disappear after 3 second. How can I do that ?

• How to return an enum ID instead of the enum text in WebAPI

  I am using the WebAPI with .NET 4.5. I have a enum called DareStatus which is a list of statuses and their corresponding integer ID's. To minimize bandwidth traffic I want to send the int values of the enums, not the full text as it is currently doing. (I have control over the client so I can map it on the clientside). • (C#) How do you de-elevate permissions for a child process

  I know how to launch a process with Admin privileges from a process using: proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true; proc.StartInfo.Verb = "runas"; where proc is a System.Diagnostics.Process. But how does one do the opposite? If the process you're in is already elevated, how do you launch the new process without admin privileges? More accurately, we need to launch the new process with the same permission level as Windows Explorer, so no change if UAC is diabled, but if UAC is enabled, but our process is running elevated, we need to perform a certain operation un-elevated because we're creating a virtual drive and if it's created with elevated permissions and Windows explorer is running unelevated it won't show up. Feel free to change the title to something better, I couldn't come up with a good description

• What's the best way to replace the first letter of a string in Java?

  I'm trying to convert the first letter of a string to lowercase. I know there's a capitalize method, but I want to accomplish the opposite. This is the code I used: value.substring(0,1).toLowerCase() + value.substring(1) Effective, but feels a bit manual. Are there any other ways to do it? Any better ways? Any Java string functions that do it for you? I was thinking of using something like a replace function, but Java's replace doesn't accept an index as a parameter. You have to pass the actual character/substring. Another way I can think of doing it is something like: value.replaceFirst(value.charAt(0), value.charAt(0).toLowerCase()) Except that replaceFirst expects 2 strings, so the value.charAt(0)s would probably need to be replaced with value.substring(0,1)s. Is this any better? Does it matter? Is there any standard way to do this?

• ctrl-c does not copy text on a webpage

  I've come across this several times, ctrl-c randomly does not copy. I think it's caused by javascript or maybe some odd html syntax. I never spent the time to track down what caused it. Anyone know the typical/common causes of ctrl-c not working (to copy) on a website? Speaking from a developers standpoint. What do we developers end up doing to break ctrl-c? Just to clarify, I'm not interested in preventing copying. I'm trying to do the opposite, occasionally I find I've done something that is preventing ctrl-c from copying text, and that is not very user friendly on a text heavy site.

  As far as I can see, the usual (and best in my opinion) order for teaching iterting constructs in functional programming with Scheme is to first teach recursion and maybe later get into things like map, reduce and all SRFI-1 procedures. This is probably, I guess, because with recursion the student has everything that's necessary for iterating (and even re-write all of SRFI-1 if he/she wants to do so). Now I was wondering if the opposite approach has ever been tried: use several procedures from SRFI-1 and only when they are not enough (for example, to approximate a function) use recursion. My guess is that the result would not be good, but I'd like to know about any past experiences with this approach.

  I have defined several services in symfony 2 which persist changes to the database. These services have the doctrine instance as one of their dependencies: a.given.service: class: Acme\TestBundle\Service\AGivenService arguments: [@doctrine] If I have two different services and both of them persist objects through the EntityManager, which is obtained like this from the doctrine instance: $em = $doctrine->getEntityManager(); Would all services always share the same EntityManager? If so, how should I handle flushing if I wanted to handle all the changes in a single transaction? I have checked this: http://docs.doctrine-project.org/projects/doctrine-orm/en/2.0.x/reference/transactions-and-concurrency.html and it explains how to handle different transactions in a request, but I want to achieve the opposite, which is having different changes in different services handled as a single transaction. Is there a better approach to handle multiple changes in different services? For now my best bet is having a front-end service in charge of calling the other services and doing the flushing afterwards. Backend services would persist objects but would not do any flushing.

  I've looked over several questions on Stack Overflow for how to convert spaces to tabs without finding what I need. There seem to be more questions about how to convert tabs to spaces, but I'm trying to do the opposite. In Vim I've tried :retab and :retab! without luck, but I believe those are actually for going from tabs to spaces anyways. I tried both expand and unexpand at the command prompt without any luck.   Inspired by this post it occurs to me that I often suffer from the opposite problem. That is, I've got code in a legacy application designed only for Internet Explorer and I need to get it to work in Firefox. For example, I recently worked on an app that made heavy use of manually simulating click events, like this: select.options[0].click(); ...which completely broke the application in Firefox. But you wouldn't find that information in the answers to the other question, because that's not something you'd ever even attempt if your app first targeted Firefox. What other things should a developer updating a legacy IE-only application look for when migrating to modern browsers?

• IE issues with drag/drop (script.aculo.us)

  I have a page with a left and a right div. Inside each of these there are several divs. I can drag&drop them inside the left/right divs or move from one to the other So the page is something like ........ ........ ........ ........ I am using scriptaculous and prototype for the drag&drop If I drag in Firefox things work fine. In IE6-IE8 however I have 2 problems: 1) When I drag from left to right or the other way around, the inner divs do not keep their relative distances: the div I moved now overlaps with the div on the opposite side (if I do a reload of the page the divs are set correctly again) 2) If I shrink the window width below a certain width the divs either on the left or the right droppable disappear.   I'm making an app that involves a 'mirror.' Basically, the view should show the UIImagePickerControllerCameraDeviceFront with a custom border around it that I would create. I have looked around the web for days and I can only find a way of putting a subview on the camera view, I want it to be the opposite way. I have seen this happen before, but I have no idea as how to do it as it appears that UIImagePickerController must be a superview and can't be a subview.   How to simulating two client-controlled vehicles colliding (sensibly) in a typical client/server setup for a network game? I did read this eminent blog post on how to do distributed network physics in general (without traditional client prediction), but this question is specifically on how to handle collisions of owned objects. Example Say client A is 20 ms ahead of server, client B 300 ms ahead of server (counting both latency and maximum jitter). This means that when the two vehicles collide, both clients will see the other as 320 ms behind - in the opposite direction of the velocity of the other vehicle. Head-to-head on a Swedish highway means a difference of 16 meters/17.5 yards! What not to try It is virtually impossible to extrapolate the positions, since I also have very complex vehicles with joints and bodies all over, which in turn have linear and angular positions, velocities and accelerations, not to mention states from user input.

For example, I'd like write a rewrite rule like: RewriteRule some_regex /index.php?path/show/$1 [L] where some_regex would pull out the last component of a url in the format: /something/path/some_param to redirect to /index.php/path/show/some_param I'm trying to use ! and [^] syntax, but I don't quite understand how these work, especially when they involve words not single characters.
