• getting date from JQueryUI Datepicker

  I am using JQueryUI datepicker. I am currently using following: $('#dtpicker').datepicker('getDate'); to get date from the datepicker. This function by default gets me today's date if the user has not selected any date in the picker. Is there some function which gets the date the user has selected? For example, if the user has selected today's date, the function should return today's date. If he didnt select any date, then this function should return false, perhaps. I want this function for validation of date ranges in JQueryUI daterangepicker which currently it is not supporting.

• Assistance using respond_to to find the right actions to render PDF in ruby on rails

  Hi, I am trying out Prince with the Princely plugin, which is supposed to format templates that have the .pdf into a PDF generator. Here is my controller: class TodoController < ApplicationController def show_date @date = Date.today @campaigns = Campaign.all @contacts = Contact.all @contacts.each do |contact| end respond_to do |format| format.html format.pdf do render :pdf => "filename", :stylesheets => ["application", "prince"], :layout => "pdf" end end end end I changed the routes.db to include the following: map.connect ':controller/:action.:format' map.todo "todo/today", :controller => "todo", :action => "show_date" My expected behavior is when I enter todo/today.pdf, it tries to execute show_date, but renders according to the princely plugin. Right now, it says cannot find action. What do I need to do to fix this?

  I have several models: Email Letter Call All three belong to a model Campaign. And a Campaign has_many Contacts I envision being able to see a schedule for Today by going to domain/schedule/today What I'd like it to do would be to show all the Events (Email, Letter, Call) that have to happen today for each campaign. I tried the following, but have some challenges in putting it into a controller versus into a View. There are many emails in campaign. Email.days is the number of days from the contact.start_date that an email should be sent to the Contact. • How to move sub-headings to under other headings in emacs org-mode

  My list looks like this: * TODAY ** TODO Item 1 ** TODO Item 2 * TOMORROW ** TODO Item 3 ** TODO Item 4 ...as a single list, based on some advice I received here. I'd like to move TODO Item 2 from under TODAY to under TOMORROW. The manual says: M-up M-down Move the item including subitems up/down (swap with previous/next item of same indentation). If the list is ordered, renumbering is automatic. But while I can change the places of Item 1 and Item 2, I cannot move Item 2 outside of the Today heading---I cannot move it down under TOMORROW to proceed Item 3. The buffer tells me: cannot move past superior level or buffer limit org mode What is the keystroke that lets me move sub-items "past superior level" to under new headings?

• Object sent -autorelease too many times

  I have this code that simple returns Today's date as a string formatted: +(NSString*) getTodayString_YYYY_MM_DD { NSDate * today = [NSDate date]; NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [formatter setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd"]; return [[formatter stringFromDate:today] autorelease]; } With instruments I'm not getting a memory leak, but when I Analyze, XCode says: Object sent -autorelease too many times If I understand correctly, I have to release manually the formatter as I'm creating it using 'alloc', but I can't release here because I have to return the value, so I add the autorelease. How I can do it better to improve it ? thanks, r.

  Assuming a decent understanding of assembly on common CPU architectures (eg: x86), how can one explore a potential path (career, fun and profit, etc) into the field of reverse engineering? There is so little educational guides out there so it is difficult to understand what potential uses this has today (eg: is searching for buffer overflow exploits still common, or do stack monitoring programs make this obselete?). I am not looking for any step by step program, just some relevant information such as tips on how to efficiently find a specific area of a program. Basic things in the trade. As well as what it is currently being used for today. So to recap, what current uses does reverse engineering yield today? And how can one find some basic information on how to learn the trade (again it doesn't have to be step-by-step, just anything which can through a clue would be helpful).

• PHP - Get dates of next 5 weekdays?

  I'm trying to create an array of the next 5 working week days (Monday - Friday, excluding today). I know the working week varies around the world but this is not important for what I am trying to do. So, for example, if today is a Wednesday, I want the dates for Thursday and Friday of the current week and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the following week. I thought this would work: $dates = array(); for ($i = 1; $ < 6; $i ++) { $dates[] = date('Y-m-d', strtotime('+ '.$i.' weekday')); } But for today, it is giving me: Monday 1st Tuesday 2nd Wednesday 3rd Thursday 4th Sunday 7th! • Month to Date in SQL Server 2008

  Hopefully this will be an easy one to answer. I am working on a table that requires MTD data. One of our SQL guys told me to use MONTH (@monthtodate)= 11 Where @monthtodate is set to GetDate() in the parameter list in SQL Server Management Studio. So in "theory", he says, it should select the month (11) and then get today and return all the requested data in between those two dates. But I'm thinking this isn't correct. In looking at my data I'm starting to think that It's just returning data for the whole month of November instead of just MTD. I guess, technically, anything that has 0 won't be calculated. However that just means it's poorly written code correct? In your opinions, would this be the better way to return MTD data: production_date <= @today and Production_Date >= DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm, 0, @today), 0) Thanks in advance everyone!

• How to safely remove a USB drive on Windows CE 5.0?

  Until today, I assumed that Windows CE was writing everything to disk and I wouldn't end up with a broken FAT16 when I removed the USB stick. Today, I was proven wrong. I use a USB stick to test things on a WinCE 5.0 device. I don't write anything from the app or WinCE to the stick. I just execute my app, and my app reads its settings and pictures from the stick. Today, just this order of operations broke my stick filesystem (and I have to fix it). Is there a way to tell WinCE 5.0 to unmount the stick before I remove it? It sees it as a "Hard Drive", and the tap-and-hold menu has nothing along the lines of "safely remove drive". I'm happy with both code to do this operation and some trick that I didn't find in Windows CE yet. Thank you.

• Removing groups of similar records in MySQL query

  I'm trying to wrap my head around this... (it may be simple, been a long day!) I have a database with sometimes multiple similar records... ie. Apples 2008-09-03 Apples 2012-01-01 Apples 2013-10-24 Oranges 2012-01-04 What I need to do is do a query that will show only records that haven't been updated today... So in this case, since Apples has an entry that was updated today, none of the records for the Apples should appear in the results. Oranges should be the only record it returns. I have a query similar to this... SELECT fruit FROM fruitnames where date < CURDATE() Which works to remove the record that was updated today... But it keeps the other records for Apples (obviously)... How would I remove those results as well?

I did however run into a few problems upgrading today. First of all, if you going to install the 64bit Office 2010 please note that you can’t install the 64bit Office 2010 if you are trying to install on a machine that is running 32bit Office 2007.   Today is my 1300th blog post and I realize that my blog has been quite running such a long journey. I have been writing for a lengthy time on this tech blog. Today I would like to go back and briefly recall the posts that were part of my blog’s history. Read all list of all my blog posts here. This blog only started as a list of personal bookmarks. I used to just write down scripts on the blog for my personal use. I was the one who wrote many scripts here for the servers that I was maintaining to keep them polished. I have included many links in my first blog posts which I view as just a collection of bookmarks on my very own blog; no intentions of publishing other contents besides the scripts, at all. Gradually, I realized that people read my blog and follow the advices which were supposedly meant only for me. I tried to write a code and a script which are generic in nature, so anyone can just use it right away. Nothing is perfect. When I was writing the last 1299 posts (and having 14 Million+ views), I have made a few mistakes and tweaks that I thoughtfully accepted. These are corrections that were pointed out by many kind souls and readers like you, which have helped me develop wonderful blogging experiences. I am very glad that I have this blog wherein I can express myself. After all, I would have not reached where I am today if I have kept myself worried in terms of expressing my knowledge and understanding SQL Server. I am happy that many of you appreciated my efforts and supported me all the way, which also helped me achieve where I am now. I promise to learn more about this fascinating subject and, of course, continue to share whatever I will learn to my dear readers. Again, I really thank YOU for reading this blog and supporting the SQL community. • So what *did* Alan Kay really mean by the term "object-oriented"?

  Reportedly, Alan Kay is the inventor of the term "object oriented". And he is often quoted as having said that what we call OO today is not what he meant. For example, I just found this on Google: "I made up the term 'object-oriented', and I can tell you I didn't have C++ in mind" - Alan Kay, OOPSLA '97 I vaguely remember hearing something pretty insightful about what he did mean. Something along the lines of "message passing". Do you know what he meant? Can you fill in more details of what he meant and how it differs from today's common OO?
