  • I know I can't say myView.frame.origin.x = val - But why ?

    - by Allisone
    I know that I can't use that myView.frame.origin.x = 25.0; that I have to use instead CGRect myFrame = myView.frame; myFrame.origin.x = 25.0; myView.frame = myFrame; And I'm doing it all the time (f.e. in animations), but I don't know why I must do it that way. I would like to fill that gap in my understanding. Can someone explain ?

  • Reading html with accented characters from a URL on iPhone

    - by lbh
    Hello, I'm having trouble extracting the html from a website which contains accented characters. Specifically, there are French characters on the site. Currently I'm using: NSString* html= [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL URLWithString: url] usedEncoding: &enc error:&error]; to get html from a URL. It works perfectly fine for any sites which are all English, but with a mostly English site with French characters it returns nothing. I've tried a few different types of encoding, but none have worked for me. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    - by Rob J
    How would I go about adding a simple 2 minute timer to my app in almost the exact same way that the clock app does? I just want the user to click start and have the timer start displaying the timer counting down from 2:00 and beep when it hits 0:00.

  • How to avoid "incomplete implementation" warning in partial base class

    - by garph0
    I have created a protocol that my classes need to implement, and then factored out some common functionality into a base class, so I did this: @protocol MyProtocol - (void) foo; - (void) bar; @end @interface Base <MyProtocol> @end @interface Derived_1 : Base @end @interface Derived_2 : Base @end @implementation Base - (void) foo{ //something foo } @end @implementation Derived_1 - (void) bar{ //something bar 1 } @end @implementation Derived_2 - (void) bar{ //something bar 2 } @end In this way in my code I use a generic id<MyProtocol>. The code works (as long as Base is not used directly) but the compiler chokes at the end of the implementation of Base with a warning: Incomplete implementation of class Base Is there a way to avoid this warning or, even better, a more proper way to obtain this partially implemented abstract base class behavior in Objc?

  • How to replace an object in an NSMutableArray at a given index with a new object

    - by shakeelw
    Hi guys. I have an NSMutableArray object(retained, synthesized as all) that is initiated just fine and I can easily add objects to it using the 'addObject:' method. But if I want to replace an object at a certain index with a new one in that NSMutableArray, it doesn't work. For example: ClassA.h @interface ClassA : NSObject { NSMutableArray *list; } @property (nonatomic, copy, readwrite) NSMutableArray *list; end ClassA.m import "ClassA.h" @implementation ClassA @synthesize list; (id)init { [super init]; NSMutableArray *localList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; self.list = localList; [localList release]; //Add initial data [list addObject:@"Hello "]; [list addObject:@"World"]; } // Custom set accessor to ensure the new list is mutable (void)setList:(NSMutableArray *)newList { if (list != newList) { [list release]; list = [newList mutableCopy]; } } -(void)updateTitle:(NSString *)newTitle:(NSString *)theIndex { int i = [theIndex intValue]-1; [self.list replaceObjectAtIndex:i withObject:newTitle]; NSLog((NSString *)[self.list objectAtIndex:i]); // gives the correct output } However, the change remains true only inside the method. from any other method, the NSLog((NSString *)[self.list objectAtIndex:i]); gives the same old value. How can I actually get the old object replaced with the new one at a specific index so that the change can be noticed from within any other method as well. I even modified the method like this, but the result is the same: -(void)updateTitle:(NSString *)newTitle:(NSString *)theIndex { int i = [theIndex intValue]-1; NSMutableArray *localList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; localList = [localList mutableCopy]; for(int j = 0; j < [list count]; j++) { if(j == i) { [localList addObject:newTitle]; NSLog(@"j == 1"); NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", j]); } else { [localList addObject:(NSString *)[self.list objectAtIndex:j]]; } } [self.list release]; //self.list = [localList mutableCopy]; [self setList:localList]; [localList release]; } Please help out guys :)

  • Which button called the function?

    - by StoneBreaker
    I have two buttons which call the same function. That functions signature is - (IBAction)eraseTextField {...} I would like to figure out what button called the function. So I would like for the functions signature to be something like - (IBAction)eraseTextField: (id)sender {...}. Is there a way for the system to know to send the id of the calling object to a function that it calls? Thanks for the help.

  • UIView surface Detection

    - by Sanjay Darshil
    In my code I crated two UIView View1 and View2 out of which View2 rotates on finger touch using CGAffineTransform and View1 is drawn like Arrow shaped (triangle) using CGContext. The View1 is steady view (fixed) which Points (shown directed Up) to the Surface of View2 , So I want to detect the View2 surface points when it stopped rotation and appears in front of the view1. How can I made this possible to detect the UIView Surface when it appears in front of another UIView?

  • Defined outlets, connected them, they all returns (null)

    - by Tom
    Hi! I'm trying to play with a WebView. I made an outlet: IBOutlet UIWebView *browser; Defined it as a property: @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWebView *browser; Synthethized it: @synthesize browser; Finally, I connected it in Interface Builder, really it is. Then I try to do something with it i.e.: [browser loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://apple.com"]]]; Or also: Etape *etape = [[Etape alloc] init]; NSString *html = [etape generateHTMLforEtape:[current_etape objectAtIndex:0]]; [browser loadHTMLString:html baseURL:nil]; [etape release]; I get no errors, I tried to Build & Analyse, no notices or warnings or errors.. I've been searching for one whole day, please help me :/ Thanks a lot! EDIT: Here's screenshots of my connections for my WebView: EDIT: That is how I call the view: DetailViewController *dvController = [[DetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; dvController.workflow_id = parent_id; Etape *etape = [[Etape alloc] init]; dvController.etapes = [etape getEtapes:parent_id]; [etape release]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:dvController animated:YES]; [dvController release];

  • @property setter for BOOL.

    - by George
    Hi, I'm having problems setting a BOOL using @property and @synthesize. I'm using @property BOOL isPaused; And I can get it by using [myObject isPaused]; but I cannot manage to set it. I'd like to use [myObject setPaused: NO];. I also tried @property (setter=setPaused) BOOL isPaused; but if I'm not mistaking, then I need to write that setter myself.

  • How do I reset the state of a view inside a tabbar?

    - by ABeanSits
    Hello CocoaTouch-Experts! This is a fairly straightforward question though my Googling session gave me nothing. How do I reset the state of a view hierarchy located in a tabbar programmatically? The behavior I want to replicate is when the user tapps on a tab twice. This causes the view located under that tab to return to it's initial state. The tab is "owned" by a UINavigationController and when the user reaches a certain point in the view hierarchy there is a button which I want to connect this behavior to. All my attempts have failed except calling on a method in AppDelegate which kills the view and adds it back to the UITabBarController again. But this does not feel like the right way to go. Thanks in advance. Best regards //Abeansits

  • Reducing lag when downloading large amount of data from webpage

    - by Mahir
    I am getting data via RSS feeds and displaying each article in a table view cell. Each cell has an image view, set to a default image. If the page has an image, the image is to be replaced with the image from the article. As of now, each cell downloads the source code from the web page, causing the app to lag when I push the view controller and when I try scrolling. Here is what I have in the cellForRowAtIndexPath: method. NSString * storyLink = [[stories objectAtIndex: storyIndex] objectForKey: @"link"]; storyLink = [storyLink stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceAndNewlineCharacterSet]]; NSString *sourceCode = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:storyLink] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&error]; NSString *startPt = @"instant-gallery"; NSString *startPt2 = @"<img src=\""; if ([sourceCode rangeOfString:startPt].length != 0) { //webpage has images // find the first "<img src=...>" tag starting from "instant-gallery" NSString *trimmedSource = [sourceCode substringFromIndex:NSMaxRange([sourceCode rangeOfString:startPt])]; trimmedSource = [trimmedSource substringFromIndex:NSMaxRange([trimmedSource rangeOfString:startPt2])]; trimmedSource = [trimmedSource substringToIndex:[trimmedSource rangeOfString:@"\""].location]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:trimmedSource]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:data]; cell.picture.image = image; Someone suggested using NSOperationQueue. Would this way be a good solution? EDIT: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *MyIdentifier = @"FeedCell"; LMU_LAL_FeedCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:MyIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { NSArray *nib = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"LMU_LAL_FeedCell" owner:self options:nil]; cell = (LMU_LAL_FeedCell*) [nib objectAtIndex:0]; } int storyIndex = [indexPath indexAtPosition: [indexPath length] - 1]; NSString *untrimmedTitle = [[stories objectAtIndex: storyIndex] objectForKey: @"title"]; cell.title.text = [untrimmedTitle stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceCharacterSet]]; CGSize maximumLabelSize = CGSizeMake(205,9999); CGSize expectedLabelSize = [cell.title.text sizeWithFont:cell.title.font constrainedToSize:maximumLabelSize]; //adjust the label to the the new height. CGRect newFrame = cell.title.frame; newFrame.size.height = expectedLabelSize.height; cell.title.frame = newFrame; //position frame of date label CGRect dateNewFrame = cell.date.frame; dateNewFrame.origin.y = cell.title.frame.origin.y + cell.title.frame.size.height + 1; cell.date.frame = dateNewFrame; cell.date.text = [self formatDateAtIndex:storyIndex]; dispatch_queue_t someQueue = dispatch_queue_create("cell background queue", NULL); dispatch_async(someQueue, ^(void){ NSError *error = nil; NSString * storyLink = [[stories objectAtIndex: storyIndex] objectForKey: @"link"]; storyLink = [storyLink stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceAndNewlineCharacterSet]]; NSString *sourceCode = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:storyLink] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&error]; NSString *startPt = @"instant-gallery"; NSString *startPt2 = @"<img src=\""; if ([sourceCode rangeOfString:startPt].length != 0) { //webpage has images // find the first "<img src=...>" tag starting from "instant-gallery" NSString *trimmedSource = [sourceCode substringFromIndex:NSMaxRange([sourceCode rangeOfString:startPt])]; trimmedSource = [trimmedSource substringFromIndex:NSMaxRange([trimmedSource rangeOfString:startPt2])]; trimmedSource = [trimmedSource substringToIndex:[trimmedSource rangeOfString:@"\""].location]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:trimmedSource]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:data]; dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^(void){ cell.picture.image = image; }); }) //error: expected expression } return cell; //error: expected identifier } //error extraneous closing brace

  • Performance issue finding weekdays over a given period

    - by Oysio
    I have some methods that return the number of weekdays between two given dates. Since calling these methods become very expensive to call when the two dates lie years apart, I'm wondering how these methods could be refactored in a more efficient way. The returned result is correct but I feel that the iphone processor is struggling to keep up and consequently freezes up the application when I would call these methods over a period of say 10years. Any suggestions ? //daysList contains all weekdays that need to be found between the two dates -(NSInteger) numberOfWeekdaysFromDaysList:(NSMutableArray*) daysList startingFromDate:(NSDate*)startDate toDate:(NSDate*)endDate { NSInteger retNumdays = 0; for (Day *dayObject in [daysList objectEnumerator]) { if ([dayObject isChecked]) { retNumdays += [self numberOfWeekday:[dayObject weekdayNr] startingFromDate:startDate toDate:endDate]; } } return retNumdays; } -(NSInteger) numberOfWeekday:(NSInteger)day startingFromDate:(NSDate*)startDate toDate:(NSDate*)endDate { NSInteger numWeekdays = 0; NSDate *nextDate = startDate; NSComparisonResult result = [endDate compare:nextDate]; //Do while nextDate is in the past while (result == NSOrderedDescending || result == NSOrderedSame) { if ([NSDate weekdayFromDate:nextDate] == day) { numWeekdays++; } nextDate = [nextDate dateByAddingDays:1]; result = [endDate compare:nextDate]; } return numWeekdays; }
