• Unable to render php files in browser

  Hello, I am very new to php, and I am trying to develop a facebook application using php. I am using Joyent as my hosting platform. Currently, I am trying to do some simple scripts in php and then build on them. However I am unable to see any php files being rendered properly in my application. For eg: I have a simple script called phpinfo.php: If I execute this on terminal like php phpinfo.php , I can see all the configurations. However if I try to access the same file as http://xxxxxx.facebook.joyent.us/phpinfo.php, I get : Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Even if I rename this file to index.php its still the same. However I am able to access other html files [index.html] on the same location . • "ImportError: cannot import name Exchange" when using Celery w/ Kombu installed

  I'm trying to create a Celery worker node on an Amazon EC2 Windows2008 R2 instance. Due to a plugin we require for another Python module, we are required to user Python3. I've installed Python3.2 and necessary modules and run Celery, but for some reason it states that it can't import Exchange and Queue from Kombu, despite the face that Kombu is installed and can be imported by python.   I downloaded the latest version of Zend framework, added a controller and I can not get it to load.. • Time delay an external RSS feed

  I subscribe to a number of RSS feeds, mostly from within my own timezone (UK: currently GMT+1, a.k.a BST). However I'm also interested in news from New Zealand (currently GMT+12). My problem is caused by my addiction to needing to keep my unread count at, or near, zero. When I load up my RSS reader in the mornings it has gathered all the NZ news at once (normally around 100 items) and I feel compelled either to read them all or to mark them all as read to feed my need for zero-unread-count. I figured a good solution to this would be to time delay the RSS feed somehow, so I would be drip-fed the stories at their time +12 hours, so I could read them through the day as they come in. So my question (or, rather, questions): Does such a thing exist currently & what is it? (no point reworking the wheel) If not: What would be the best way to approach doing this myself? I have access to a Linux web server on which I can run scripts, create databases, store files etc, so there should be a way... I'm most conversant in perl and have done a little fiddling with XML within that, so would naturally process ... or is there some simpler way to do it that I'm missing?

• Running commands over ssh with Java

  Scenerio: I'd like to run commands on remote machines from a Java program over ssh (I am using OpenSSH on my development machine). I'd also like to make the ssh connection by passing the password rather than setting up keys as I would with 'expect'. Problem: When trying to do the 'expect' like password login the Process that is created with ProcessBuilder cannot seem to see the password prompt. When running regular non-ssh commands (e.g 'ls') I can get the streams and interact with them just fine. I am combining standard error and standard out into one stream with redirectErrorStream(true); so I am not missing it in standard error...When I run ssh with the '-v' option, I see all of the logging in the stream but I do not see the prompt. This is my first time trying to use ProcessBuilder for something like this. I know it would be easier to use Python, Perl or good ol' expect but my boss wants to utilize what we are trying to get back (remote log files and running scripts) within an existing Java program so I am kind of stuck. • Yet another Haskell vs. Scala question

  I've been using Haskell for several months, and I love it—it's gradually become my tool of choice for everything from one-off file renaming scripts to larger XML processing programs. I'm definitely still a beginner, but I'm starting to feel comfortable with the language and the basics of the theory behind it. I'm a lowly graduate student in the humanities, so I'm not under a lot of institutional or administrative pressure to use specific tools for my work. It would be convenient for me in many ways, however, to switch to Scala (or Clojure). Most of the NLP and machine learning libraries that I work with on a daily basis (and that I've written in the past) are Java-based, and the primary project I'm working for uses a Java application server. I've been mostly disappointed by my initial interactions with Scala. Many aspects of the syntax (partial application, for example) still feel clunky to me compared to Haskell, and I miss libraries like Parsec and HXT and QuickCheck. I'm familiar with the advantages of the JVM platform, so practical questions like this one don't really help me. What I'm looking for is a motivational argument for moving to Scala. What does it do (that Haskell doesn't) that's really cool? What makes it fun or challenging or life-changing? Why should I get excited about writing it?

• Firebug error causing code to fail in Sitecore when using IE8 to view the Content Editor

  Hi, I have a Sitecore 6 CMS with a custom data provider to create child items on the fly based on items added to a field in the parent item. This was working okay (about a week ago was the last time I was working on this project), but now I am getting errors in the web client which are originating in the FirebugLite html and JS files. Basically, I click on a content item, the FirebugLite js fails, and then my code in my custom data provider fails to run. I would have thought any FirebugLite scripts would be disabled or ignored when running under IE8 (isn't FirebugLite a Firefox addin?) When I remove the FirebugLite folder from ..\sitecore\shell\Controls\Lib\ my code runs fine and I don't get the clientside errors. I'm not really sure what my question is. I guess it is should FirebugLite affect IE8? What am I missing out on if I remove FirebugLite from the Sitecore directory tree? I'm running WindowsXP SP3, VS2008. • question about MySQL database migration

  Hi there: If I have a MySQL database with several tables on a live server, now I would like to migrate this database to another server. Of course, the migration I mean here involves some database tables, for example: add some new columns to several tables, add some new tables etc.. Now, the only method I can think of is to use some php/python(two scripts I know) script, connect two databases, dump the data from the old database, and then write into the new database. However, this method is not efficient at all. For example: in old database, table A has 28 columns; in new database, table A has 29 columns, but the extra column will have default value 0 for all the old rows. My script still needs to dump the data row by row and insert each row into the new database. Is there any tools or a better method than writing a script yourself? Here, I dont need to worry about multithread writing problems etc.., I mean the old database will be down (not open to public usage etc.., only for upgrade ) for a while. Thanks!!

• How to install msi on remote machine in msbuild without using psexec?

  I have searched all the custom tasks in Extension Pack and Community Tasks and finally found a task called Msi.Istall in SDC Tasks. But the documentation is bad and causes problems. I get errors regarding the properties passed to the installer. How else do i specify the remote machine? Any ideas where I am going wrong? I have also been asked not to use psexec tool or intermediate scripts.. Looking to install directly from msbuild task.

  I have been building my first ASP.NET MVC web app. I have been using the jQuery autocomplete widget in a number of places like this: <head> $("#model").autocomplete({ source: '<%= Url.Action("Model", "AutoComplete") %>' }); </head> The thing is I have this jQuery code in a number of different places through my web app. So i thought I would create a seperate javascript script (script.js) where I could put this code and then just include it in the master page. Then i can put all these repeated pieces of code in that script and just call them where I need too. So I did this. My code is shown below: In the site.js script I put this function: function doAutoComplete() { $("#model").autocomplete({ source: '<%= Url.Action("Model", "AutoComplete") %>' }); } On the page I have: <head> <script src="../../Scripts/site.js" type="text/javascript"></script> doAutoComplete(); </head> But when I do this I get an Invalid Argument exception and the autocomplete doesnt work. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?Do i need to pass something to the doAutoComplete function?

  Hey What I want to do is to include one of my PHP scripts in a Word Press theme. The problem is that after I include the script file I can't access, inside functions in the theme file, variables declared in the script file . I have created a new file in the theme folder and added the same code as in header.php and if I open that file it works just fine. • Why would a script not like using MySQLi but is fine with MySQL?

  I'm having some issues using mysqli to execute a script with SELECT,DELETE,INSERT and UPDATE querys. They work when using norm mysql such as mysql_connect but im getting strange results when using mysqli. It works fine with a lot of the SELECT querys in other scripts but when it comes to some admin stuff it messes up. Its difficult to explain without attaching the whole script. • PHP Notice: Undefined property: stdClass:

  I've got an array coming back from a Flash app created in Flash Builder 4. I have a service setup that queries and brings data back from the DB successfully, however the Update script is generating the Undefined Property errors. I'm still learning both PHP and Flash Builder, and don't fully understand what the $this- commands do. If anyone can suggest where this script is going wrong, it is basically just generated by Flash Builder and is not something I've developed myself, I would appreciate it? Also if someone can explain $this- to me that would be awesome too? I've seen them before, but then I've seen scripts doing the same thing that do not use them, so is this an old way of doing things?   Last week I accidently externalized all my strings of my eclipse project. I need to revert this and my only hope is sed. I tried to create scripts but failed pathetically because I'm new with sed and this would be a very complicated operation. What I need to do is this: Strings in class.java file is currently in the following format(method) Messages.getString(<key>). Example : if (new File(DataSource.DEFAULT_VS_PATH).exists()) { for (int i = 1; i <= c; i++) { if (!new File(DataSource.DEFAULT_VS_PATH + Messages.getString("VSDataSource.89") + i).exists()) { //$NON-NLS-1$ getnewvfspath = DataSource.DEFAULT_VS_PATH + Messages.getString("VSDataSource.90") + i; //$NON-NLS-1$ break; } } } The key and matching Strings are in messages.properties file in the following format. • Ways to gain a deeper understanding of programming concepts?

  I'm a marketer and have been messing around in PHP/MySQL for years. Recently (the last several months) I've been making my own scripts/programs in Python and I've really enjoyed the whole problem solving process. I've read(skimmed) some books and understand the basics of OOP, polymorphism, etc.. I have a general interest in AI and Natural Language in particular but it seems these things require a masters in Computer Science. My knowledge of math is poor. The last class I took was calculus, and I've forgotten the majority of it. Basically I'm looking for things to learn that will help me think in a more analytic way, and maybe see solutions where I didn't before. Improving my ability to program in Python would be nice too. I don't need to learn a specific language or something for employment, just enjoyment. Although my work often involves web development so some utility would be nice. I don't like learning concepts by just reading them. I need to apply them, even if the examples are contrived. A recommendation of a couple good books or other resources would be nice. :) Apologies if this is too vague/misplaced...

• jQuery-driven app. won't work without alert()

This has nothing to do with load time... no matter how long I wait, the menu does not work. • Python subprocess: 64 bit windows server PIPE doesn't exist :(

  I have a GUI that launches selected python scripts and runs it in cmd next to the gui window. I am able to get my launcher to work on my (windows xp 32 bit) laptop but when I upload it to the server(64bit windows iss7) I am running into some issues. The script runs, to my knowledge but spits back no information into the cmd window. My script is a bit of a Frankenstein that I have hacked and slashed together to get it to work I am fairly certain that this is a very bad example of the subprocess module. Just wondering if i could get a hand :).   There are so many 'huge' accordion scripts around and I am confused. Can anyone suggest me a simple code to turn this list into a accordion panel. To start with, only the 'Sports' list will be visible. • Running RSpec Files From ruby code

  I'm trying to run RSpec tests straight from ruby code. More specifically, I'm running some mysql scripts, loading the rails test environment and then I want to run my rspec tests (which is what I'm having trouble with)... I'm trying to do this with a rake task. • Advantages of Using Linux as primary developer desktop

  I want to get some input on some of the advantages of why developers should and need to use Linux as their primary development desktop on a daily basic as opposed to using Windows. This is particulary helpful when your Dev, QA, and Production environments are Linux. The current analogy that I keep coming back to is. If I build my demo car as a Ford Escort, but my project car is a Ford Mustang, it doesn't make sense at all. I'm currently at an IT department that allows dual boot with Windows and Linux, but some run Linux while the vast majority use Windows. Here's several advantages that I've came up with since using Linux as a primary desktop. Same Exact operating system as Dev, QA, and Production Same Scripts (.sh) instead of maintaining (.bat and *.sh). Somewhat mitigated by using cygwin, but still a bit different. Team learns simple commands such as: cd, ls, cat, top Team learns Advanced commands like: pkill, pgrep, chmod, su, sudo, ssh, scp Full access to installs typically for Linux, such as RPM, DEB installs just like the target environments. The list could go on and on, but I want to get some feedback of anything that I may have missed, or even any disadvantages (of course there are some). To me it makes sense to migrate an entire team over to using Linux, and using Virtual Box, running Windows XP VM's to test functional items that 95% of most of the world uses. • PHP Thumbnail Image Resizing with proportions

  Hi all. As a brief run down, I am currently making a dating type site. Users can create accounts and upload profile pictures (up to 8). In order to display these in the browse area of the website, I am looking for a way in PHP (with third party processor/scripts) to resize all images uploaded to have thumbnails that adhere to certain dimensions. As an example, I will want "profile" images (thumbnails) to be NO larger than 120*150px. The scripting needs to resize uploaded images (regardless of whether they are portrait or landscape, and regardless of proportions) to adhere to these dimensions without getting stretched. The width (eg. 120pixels) should always remain the same, but the height (eg. 150px) can vary in order to keep the image in proportion. If it's a landscape photo, I'm assuming the script would need to take a chunk out of the middle of the image? The reason that all images to be resized is so that when profiles are display in a grid that all thumbnails are roughly the same size. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

• JavaScript alert not working in Android WebView

  In my application I am using WebView and in that I am using JavaScript alert( ) method but its not working, no pop-up appears. in my manifest file I have added <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"></uses-permission> and in activity file I have added mWebView = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.webview); mWebView.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true); mWebView.loadUrl("file:///android_asset/demo.html"); In layout xml file I have added <WebView android:id="@+id/webview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> Any clue how to enable full JavaScript in WebView. Update Thanks mark the alert() method in the html file are working now :) . Now there are two issues in WebView : 1: I am using a in the html file that i am loading in WebView , and trying to write in Hindi language font in it, but when i try to write Hindi text it displays as symbols ( rectangle symbols like [] ) . when i do the same in firefox browser on desktop it works fine. any clue how to give support for multiple language in textarea in WebView ? 2: When I am clicking submit and trying to open the value of text in alert() method in another java script it doesn't work , does it mean even after using WebChromeClient its applicable only for current loaded html page and not java scripts called from that page ?
