• Installing Ruby Gems behind a Proxy

  It appears this topic has been covered a few times before, but those solutions have only gotten me so far. I now have my sources properly updated and I am able to query for gems without an error but I keep getting empty results for my searches. I installed rubysspi and copied over the spa.rb file as mentioned in the readme. The readme also suggested using this line which did not work for me based on my install path: ruby -rspa 'C:\Program Files\ruby\gem' list --remote sspi So I switched it to my install directory off the root: ruby -rspa 'C:\ruby\gem' list --remote sspi But that also didn't work so a search for the gem file located it in the bin directory so this command finally worked for me: ruby -rspa 'C:\ruby\bin\gem' list --remote sspi But I got empty results back: *** REMOTE GEMS *** SO I tried other gems and had the same results. Then I listed my gem sources and rubygems is listed as expected. Am I missing something else? c:\ruby>gem sources *** CURRENT SOURCES *** http://rubygems.org

• Is there a way to undo Mocha stubbing of any_instance in Test::Unit

  Much like this question, I too am using Ryan Bates's nifty_scaffold. It has the desirable aspect of using Mocha's any_instance method to force an "invalid" state in model objects buried behind the controller. Unlike the question I linked to, I'm not using RSpec, but Test::Unit. That means that the two RSpec-centric solutions there won't work for me. Is there a general (ie: works with Test::Unit) way to remove the any_instance stubbing? I believe that it's causing a bug in my tests, and I'd like to verify that.

• Cucumber/Webrat: follow link by CSS class?

  Hello there, is it possible to follow a link by it's class name instead of the id, text or title? Given I have (haha, cucumber insider he?) the following html code: <div id="some_information_container"> <a href="edit" class="edit_button">Translation here</a> </div> I do not want to match by text because I'd have to care about the translation values in my tests I want to have my buttons look all the same style, so I will use the CSS class. I don't want to assign a id to every single link, because some of them are perfectly identified through the container and the link class Is there anything I missed in Cucumber/Webrat? Or do you have some advices to solve this in a better way? • How can I extract URLs from plain text with Perl?

  I need the Perl regex to parse plain text input and convert all links to valid HTML HREF links. I've tried 10 different versions I found on the web but none of them seen to work correctly. I also tested other solutions posted on StackOverflow, none of which seem to work. The correct solution should be able to find any URL in the plain text input and convert it to: <a href="$1">$1</a> Some cases other regular expressions I tried didn't handle correctly include: URLs at the end of a line which are followed by returns URLs that included question marks URLs that start with 'https' I'm hoping that another Perl guy out there will already have a regular expression they are using for this that they can share. • Log to rolling CSV file with Enterprise Library

  Need logging to: Rolling file, to avoid 1 big log file. CSV format for easier look up. I can see EntLib (5.0) have Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.TraceListeners.RollingFlatFileTraceListener to log to rolling log file. To make the log entries look like a CSV row, I can change the Logging.Formatters.TextFormatter.Template to put double quote around the values. Also change the Listener's Footer and Header to nothing, so they won't be output. Under normal circumstance, this would give me a well formed CSV file. However if a token value in the Template contain double quote, this would not be escaped, hence the log file become an invalid CSV file. Is there any way to resolve this? Is there any alternative solutions to this problem?

I want to get something like that: if (string[4:8]=='abc') {...} I started writing like this: if (string[4]=='a' && string[5]=='b' && string[6]=='c') {...} but if i need to evaluate a big part of string like if (string[10:40] == another_string) {...} then it gets to write TOO much expressions.   How can I find which processes have a specific file opened, and their open, access and share modes? Additionally, is it possible to change these values for a process? Or is it even possible to open a file for reading if it is already opened for exclusive access by another process? Please note that I don't want to invalidate the handle of the process having the file opened. I just want to be able to access the file (if possible). (I'm mainly asking about Windows, but solutions for other platforms are welcome, since they contribute to the community's knowledge.) Edit: I found some answers for my first question here and there. • ACT Professional for Windows-Memory leak?

  I have an ACT! professional for Windows V11.1, with the latest SQL service pack (SP3) and have an apparent memory leak on the server. After a restart the ACT! SQL instance (SQLSERVR) consumes almost all the available memory on the server, we have added more memory to the server (it is running under Hyper-V) but it continues to consume it all. I have not been able to connect to the SQL server instance using management studio in order to limit the amount of RAM it is allocated. Are there any potential solutions for this? or should I continue to restart the services?

• ASP.NET MVC 3 - What features do you want to see?

  I know a bunch of people that are really enjoying the improvements that ASP.NET MVC 2 made over the first release. I have just started to migrate our MVC 1 project over and so far areas has totally cleaned up the subfolder mess we had in our large scale application. As I dive deeper into all the improvements and changes that were made I still keep thinking to myself man it would be nice if they had x in this release. For isntance, I would love it if they had some sort of dependency injection built in instead of having to use third party solutions. My real question is now that ASP.NET MVC 2 is out in the wild, what features do want/wish the team had implemented and hope they will implement for ASP.NET MVC 3?

• overflow hidden not working on touch device

  I have a problem with overflow:hidden on a touch device. Basically I have my html and body on overflow:hidden. With a contact form outside(bottom) of the window. On clicking a button this form will animate in. This is so far working great on desktop browsers. But on touch devices, I seem to be able to scroll down and view the form. I can't seem to find solutions after much googling. Is there anyway to force overflow:hidden on touch devices? Any help much appreciated!

• NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate in a second view controller (not firing?)

  I am running into an issue similar to the one described here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1319940/nsfetchedresultscontrollerdelegate-not-firing (the delegate for my NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate are not being called on my second view controller) I can't seem to get the proposed solutions to work. I have a main view that loads information from Core Data just fine, but when it pushes a separate controller (and passes the managed object to it), the delegate methods won't fire. I've read about 'mergeChangesFromContextDidSaveNotification' but I don't understand how to synchronize the two manage objects and/or get the delegate methods to be called. Meaning solutions that are either more readable or faster(optimized) or simply best-practice. Current solution: multiple tables selected, many conditional statements: SELECT u.userID AS memberid, u.name AS first_name, pv1.value AS fname, pv2.value as lname FROM users AS u, profile_values AS pv1, profile_values AS pv2, WHERE u.userID = pv1.userID AND pv1.fid = 3 AND u.userID = pv2.userID AND pv2.fid = 45; Thanks for the help!

• Ways to save enums in database

  Hey guys. I am wondering what the best ways to save enums into a database is. I know there are name() and valueOf() methods to make it into a String back. But are there any other (flexible) options to store these values? Is there a smart way to make them into unique numbers (ordinal() is not safe to use)? Any comments and suggestions would be helpful :) Update: Thanks for all awesome and fast answers! It was as I suspected. However a note to 'toolkit'; That is one way. The problem is that I would have to add the same methods with each enum type i create. Thats a lot of duplicated code and, at the moment, Java does not support any solutions to this (You cannot let enum extend other classes). However, thanks for all answers!

  Hi everyone, I tried to write an editable table based on QTreeView with wordwraped content in cells which in turn should expand in height (that whole text was visible) like usual cells in tables like in MSWord, but have met insuperable obstacles: first - i can't set fixed cell size. second - i can't make text display in cells wordwraped. For this i used void QTreeWidget::setItemWidget ( QTreeWidgetItem * item, int column, QWidget * widget ), but it works only for readonly solutions. And i haven't come up with any other idea.   I have been trying for ages in all sorts of ways (short of ritual incantations and sacrifices) to get Visual Studio Team Edition 2008 to allow me to create Office 2003 solutions, whether those be templates or documents. No matter what I try, I'm always presented with an error which basically says "You've got the wrong version of Office installed. Try installing something compatible". I have the complete installation of Office 2003 Pro installed along with the Office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies (which I put on after I installed Office) and then VS2008TE as already mentioned. There has to be some reason why this refuses to work, but I'm out of ideas. Help appreciated.

• How to make TinyMCE work inside an UpdatePanel?

  I'm trying to do something that many people seem to have been able to do but which I am unable to implement any solution. The TinyMCE control works pretty well in an asp.net form until you enclose it with an UpdatePanel, which then breaks after postback. I have tried some fixes like the RegisterClientScriptBlock method, but am still unsuccessful, I still lose the tinyMCE control after postback. Below is a full test project (VS 2008) provided with a Control outside UpdatePanel and one inside, with a button on each to generate postback. Also in the project I have a EditorTest control which include commented code of some calls I tried, in case it gives anyone any ideas. • How To Aggregate API Data?

  Hi, I have a system that connects to 2 popular APIs. I need to aggregate the data from each into a unified result that can then be paginated. The scope of the project means that the system could end up supporting 10's of APIs. Each API imposes a max limit of 50 results per request. What is the best way of aggregating this data so that it is reliable i.e ordered, no duplicates etc I am using CakePHP framework on a LAMP environment, however, I think this question relates to all programming languages. My approach so far is to query the search API of each provider and then populate a MySQL table. From this the results are ordered, paginated etc. However, my concern is performance: API communication, parsing, inserting and then reading all in one execution. Am I missing something, does anyone have any other ideas? I'm sure this is a common problem with many alternative solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul

• Writing a Web Application in hAxe without Apache and PHP?

  hAxe has Apache httpd modules and can compile to PHP code. These are 2 options I know to make a web application that runs on the server. You can start a http server with nekotools, but this is supposed to be used for development only. Are there any more options? I can always use the NekoVM from within a C or C++ program, running a web server or interfacing to FastCGI. Or compile to C++, using a FastCGI or web server library. But I want to hear about solutions that are actually used. I have a VPS with nginx, so no mod_neko or mod_tora. PHP isn't a problem, but I'd rather wouldn't use it (for irrational reasons).

• How should I manage data in an 2D vector based animation program?

  I've been trying to design a program that makes 2D animations and then uses the ffmpeg library to create the video for possible use in tv and movies. The problem is when I think about how to manage the data in the application I can only think of two ways, I don't think either of them will work out very well. One is to use an SQlite database, but it seems like it will be difficult to save, especially if an artist puts 1000 things on screen. The other is to use something like linked lists, which would duplicate many features of the database and get complicated when dealing with things like points on a bezier curve and jumping to a frame and collecting all the objects that need to be drawn on that frame. Should I use one of these solutions, or is there something else that would be better? Currently planning to use C# for code.
