• guide on how to kick start template based flash website?

  I'm very new to flash and as3 design patterns. But I can read and write as3 quite ok, i've created small widgets with that. I've developed several web sites using php and also python. Now for a educational cd-rom project i'm working on, i've basically designed all templates (A home page, a generic page with navigation and a sidebar - kind of like a wordpress blog). I have all the data for the cdrom on word files, which i intend to place on xml files. My question is what is the best way to start a project like this? Can anyone guide me to a template or something that can be used for kickstarting this? kind of like a wordpress (without the admin)? Or am i on this all wrong? Can someone please help

• Get products to display on custom Magento page

  How can you get products to display on a custom Magento page? Naturally, this is not an uncommon question but nothing that I've seen has solved it for me. The common response is to put the following code in through the CMS editor: {{block type="catalog/product_list" name="home.catalog.product.list" alias="products_homepage” template=”catalog/product/list.phtml”}} Which just displays the message "There are no products matching the selection." on my page. Other websites advise reindexing the data through the Magento admin controls, clearing the Magento cache, and making sure products are set to a store, none of which helped in my case. Anyone have any ideas?

  We are running multiple domains through the same code and we want to save their images in their respective folders. Here's what we are doing. /images/www.domain1.com/logo.jpg /images/www.domain2.com/logo.jpg now, what I want to know is, is this possible in htaccess that we rewrite the urls without user suspecting anything. This is what I want that <img src="/images/logo.jpg" /> should internally become through htaccess RewriteRule ^images/(.*)$ /images/{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [L,R=301] But my question is, The above redirect continually loops Can I achieve the img effect without user or admin suspecting anything?   Sorry if this is a badly formed question, but I'm trying to make my web applications (using PHP) more OO. *EDIT* I'm developing the Framework myself */EDIT* Everything is great so far, I've made a Front Controller system that taps into a MVC system. The FC figures out what page you want, loads the specific page Controller (*EDIT* which extends an abstract Controller Object */EDIT*), which gets anything it needs from Models, and then calls the appropriate View. Very basic. But now, I need to make an admin section (quasi-CMS). How does a login system fit into the grand scheme of things? Do you set controllers as needing a login? If so, how? What If you only want certain views of a controller requiring login? Thanks in advance.

• Mysql query taking too much time

  I have problem related to mysql database. i am linux webserver admin and i am facing a problem with a mysql query. The database is very small. I tried to track in logs and found that a query is taking minimum 5 sec to respond . The first page of site is coming from the database. Client are using cms. when the server gets some number of hits database server starts to give response very slowly and wait time increases from 5 sec to several seconds. • As a team should we develop locally and merge into the dev server, or develop on the dev server?

  Hey, Recently I was tasked with writing up formal procedures for a team based development enviroment. We have several projects with multiple modules each. Right now there are only two programmers, however there are plans to expand to 4-6 programmers. Each programmer will be working on the same project and possibly pages which may cause over writing or error issues. So far the ideal solution I have thought up is: Local development (WAMP/VM or some virtual server instance on their own machine). Once a developer has finished their developments, they check it into the CVS Repository and merge it wih other fixes etc. The CVS version is then deployed to the primary dev server for testing by the devs. The MySQL DAtabases are kept on the primary dev server and users may remotely connect to it. Any Schema / Data alterations are run through a DB Admin who will notify all devs of any DB Changes (Which should be rare). Does anyone see an issue with this or have a better solution?

• Django i18n: makemessages only on site level possible?

  I have several strings in my site that don't belong to any app, for example {% block title %}{% trans "Login" %}{% endblock %} or a modified authentication form used to set the locale cookie class AuthenticationFormWithLocaleOption(AuthenticationForm): locale = forms.ChoiceField(choices = settings.LANGUAGES, required = False, initial = preselectedLocale, label = _("Locale/language")) Now when I execute django-admin.py makemessages --all -e .html,.template in the site directory, it extracts the strings from all Python, .html and .template files, including those in my apps. That is because I develop my apps inside that directory: Directory structure: sitename myapp1 myapp2 Is there any way to extract all strings that are not in my apps? The only solution I found is to move the app directories outside the site directory structure, but I'm using bzr-externals (similar to git submodules or svn externals) so that doesn't make sense in my case. Moving stuff that needs translation into a new app is also possible but I don't know if that is the only reasonable solution.

  I have been searching pretty hard for info out on the net to explain exactly what Restful routing is but I haven't had any success. There are a lot of resources but not a who lot make sense to me. I'm familiar with Ruby On Rails's routing system and well as how Code Igniter and PhpCake route things but is there more to it than having a centralized location where you give out routes based on a directory structure?   Hi there I want to launch an application with admin rights after I have completed an installation using a WiX based MSI. I can launch the application just fine, on XP but with Windows 7, it's an issue. The application has a manifest embedded in it that says it should run as administrator and I've changed the impersonate attribute in the Custom Action to "no". I can't change the execute attribute to deferred, as this only works before the InstallFinalize action and I need it after the user has clicked Finish in the MSI.   Hi, I am trying to use multiple web services on a single CF page. I have entered the stubs directory for each of the web services in the ColdFusion Class Path within administrator server settings java and jvm paths are listed separated by commas: c:\coldfusion9\stubs\ws1,c:\coldfusion9\stubs\ws2 for some reason, only the web service whose stub path is listed first will work. When I try to call the second web service, I get a "web service operation ... cannot be found" but if i switch the order of paths listed in the admin settings and restart the service, the web service listed first now will work. any ideas on how to manage multiple web services and their stubs ? thanks!

• jQuery wait for ajax call to be over before continuing

  Hi all, I have a problem with a jQuery ajax call. I need to wait for the call to be finished in order to return a value. However, the script seems to jump ahead and not wait for the call to be over. my function then returns "undefined". I have tried to use the .ajax() method and set the value of async to false, but this would not work either. I could I get my function to return the value that I could through the ajax call?   I am trying to use the Google Contacts API to connect to a user's contact information, on my Google apps domain. Generating an access_token using the gdata api's ContactsService clientlogin function while using the API key for my project works fine, but I would prefer to not store the user's credentials, and from the information I have found that method uses OAuth1.0 So, to use OAuth2.0 I have: Generated a Service Account in the developer's console for my project Granted access to the service account for the scope of https://www.google.com/m8/feeds/ in the Google apps domain admin panel Attempted to generate credentials using SignedJwtAssertionCredentials: credentials = SignedJwtAssertionCredentials( service_account_name=service_account_email, private_key=key_from_p12_file, scope='https://www.google.com/m8/feeds/', sub=user_email') The problem I am running into is that attempting to generate an access token using this method fails. It succeeds in generating the token when I remove the sub parameter, but then that token fails when I try to fetch the user's contacts. Does anyone know why this might be happening?

  What is the common pattern to structure web application where part of it has to be secured. So lets say I have page_a and page_b which do not need to be secured, although should display login information (login fields or login details once user logged in). This web app. also would have secured pages (admin, checkout or similar) secure_page_c and secure_page_d. My questions are: What is the common folder structure for such assuming I code in php with no frameworks? Also how shall I deal with session variables in case user navigates lets say from secure_page_b to non secure page_a or vice versa?   I have a sql server on a dedicated machine, running SQL 2008. I have the IP of the box, a database setup on it. I've built a small script that just does a connection test, and when I run it, I get the following error. Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I've been told by the admin that SQL remote access has been granted for my IP address. Anybody know what's wrong?

• Django ORM dealing with MySQL BIT(1) field

  In a Django application, I'm trying to access an existing MySQL database created with Hibernate (a Java ORM). I reverse engineered the model using: $ manage.py inspectdb > models.py This created a nice models file from the Database and many things were quite fine. But I can't find how to properly access boolean fields, which were mapped by Hibernate as columns of type BIT(1). The inspectdb script by default creates these fields in the model as TextField and adds a comment saying that it couldn't reliably obtain the field type. I changed these to BooleanField but it doesn't work (the model objects always fetch a value of true for these fields). Using IntegerField won't work as well (e.g. in the admin these fields show strange non-ascii characters). Any hints of doing this without changing the database? (I need the existing Hibernate mappings and Java application to still work with the database).

• Creating a virtual, data-driven section of a Wordpress-powered site

  Hello all, I want to create a plugin for wordpress to automatically serve pages containing data pulled from a provider's API. The API returns one or more records containing data for that record and I simply want to have the plugin intercept the request, call the API with parameters pulled from the request URI and display the data using a template that I can either let them upload to the server or let them copy and paste into the plugins admin settings. For example, I may want one of my wordpress installations to show products pulled from such an API under the url "example.com/products". The plugin would catch that request, extract the variables from the URL, call the API and render the template with the returned results. I'd like to avoid requiring editing the .htaccess file like some caching plugins do. Some of the admins of these pages won't know how to do that or simply won't have access to the .htaccess file.
