• Ubuntu 12.04 Install Problems.. Installation Type screen. No options [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Only ‘sdb’ shows up when installing 12.04 on a new Dell inspiron 14z I am new to Linux and trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on a new HP Pavilion DV6TQE Ivy Bridge and being presented with the below screen which I believe is incorrect. My disk is set up as a basic disk (not dynamic) and I tried with a single C:\ partition and by creating a second partition in windows with no luck. Any ideas? UPDATE: I think I know what the problem is but I don't know how to fix it yet.. My hard drive has a 32gb mSSD cache which is listed as dev/sdb. for some reason this is causing the installation trouble.

• How to organize continuous code reviews?

  We develop in branches. Before a branch gets merged into the main stream (master branch) we review the changes made, by creating a new "code review" in Crucible. Reviewers add their comments to the code review and the ticket/branch gets bounced back to the author, if it needs to be improved. After the improvements are made we get this branch/ticket again back to the code review. We again create a new code review in Crucible, loosing all previously made comments. We simply start from scratch. It's a big waste of time. Do you know any tools that support a continuous mode for reviews, where we don't need to start from scratch every time, but can pick up the comments already made (re-start the review, so to speak).

  In Ruby, I'm creating a small game development framework. Just some personal project - a very small group of friends helping. Now I am in need of handling geometric concepts. Rectangles, Circles, Polygons, Vectors, Lines, etc. So I made a class for each of these. I'm stuck deciding whether I should package such classes in a module, such as Geometry. So I'd access them like Geometry::Rectangle, or just Rectangle if I include the module. Now then, my question isn't about this specific scenario. I'd like to know, when is it suitable to package similar classes into one module in Ruby? What factors should I consider? Amount of classes? Usage frequency? Complexity?

• Best partition scheme [WIN7 | Ubuntu | Media | Home]

  I just got a new HD (750GB of which 700GB are usable) and I want to partition it taking in consideration: Media (200GB) Home (300GB) Win7(150GB) Ubuntu(50GB) (I have 6GB of ram, would i need to consider a swap partition) The Media and Home partitions usually are left untouched, but once a month (or in some cases more) I will be formatting Win7 and/or Ubuntu, changing their sizes and even creating a third partition for a second ubuntu/win7 instance (using the 200GB originally assigned for them) What would be a good/best partition scheme to avoid problems in the Media and Home partition (And the hard-drive in general), considering they are highly unlikely to change and that also the Win7 partition is the less unlikely to be changing in relation to the ubuntu partition? I hope I'm clear enough and if any more details are missing please let me know. Thank you in advance.

• Can i create a SDL_Surface as i do with Allegro?

  First of all, I'm sorry about my english (Isn't my native language) Using allegro I can create a Bitmap to draw just doing: BITMAP* bmp = NULL; bmp = create_bitmap(width,height); // I don't remember exactly the parameters I'm using SDL now, and i want create a SDL_Surface to draw the game level (that is static) creating a SDL_Surface, drawing the tiles on it, then i just blit this surface to the screen instead of keep drawing the tiles directly on screen (i believe this will require more processing); There a way to create a blank SDL_Surface as i did with Allegro just do draw before blit it?

• USB-live does not save files between sessions

  I created a USB-stick with Ubuntu, using the recommended tool "Startup Disk Creator" and the image for Ubuntu 13.10. The very simple interface looks like this: There can't be much to misunderstand in this GUI. I have chosen to create a USB stick with a live version of Ubuntu, which will save files and settings from session to session, on the USB drive, right? Well, it just doesn't save anything. I go in, create a file on Desktop, restart and it's gone. I did the whole procedure three times, i.e. first creating the USB, then testing if I could save. Have I misunderstood something?

• Set nomodeset in usb installation (efi loader with iso)

  I'm working with the studyblast solution (http://studyblast.wordpress.com/2011/08/14/guide-mac-os-x-lion-how-to-boot-a-linux-live-system-from-a-usb-drive-how-to-update-any-ocz-ssds-firmware/) to creating a live usb for osx. I managed to get Ubuntu booted but the screen looks like a corrupt/glitch image. I can just about make out the clock on the bottom right and a few icons. I've been told that this is an easy fix and that nomodeset needs to be set for the graphics card but all the solutions i find are for a hard drive installed Ubuntu where you can cd in and edit the grub file - how do you do this is it's in an iso? • May I remove ads from feed in my news reader app?

  I'm creating a News Reader app for Tablets and PCs. My app is fetching data from news sources by RSS feed of websites (in the server-side). But some of these sites are showing some advertising banners at the end of each article. Should I remove those banners from the feed? Am I legally/ethically allowed to do this? And what about If I want to put some other ads in my application? (Right at the end of each article) I mean, If I want to have my own advertising service... Update: And what if I use feed for content titles and summaries, but use other thing, like Readability API to show full article, and then put my own ads below content? (Readability gets the HTML page, and gives you a clean page without any ads and such.)

• Choosing a crossplatform for mobile development

  I am creating a enterprise project and will develop the app for WP, Android and IPhone (Maybe also tablets) I have then done some research of what solutions are out there and have narrowed my choice down to 3 platforms (Due to my requirement to work with Bluetooth) The biggest requirement other than Bluetooth is the need to create good interfaces and module programming so its easy to maintain the whole solution, other than that I would like to use C# but its not a real requirement, but if the difference between 2 platforms is very small then it might tip the scale. Mono (MonoTouch, Mono for android) PhoneGap RhoMobile From my understanding then PhoneGap is not suited for business apps and I am not entirely sure why, but it seems like a platform made for speed rather than long term developement, not sure how true this is. RhoMobile is made for enterprice and might suit my needs, but not sure if its a good platform Anyone with insight that care to share their opinion Mono is C#, seems to be very mature and I found MvvmCross which should help organize the project

Now suddenly from last two days it reduced the amount of traffic from 70% to 20% and also when I am trying to search for the exact posts that I can created even after appending my website name to it does not show any results for that.   Just a side note for people who may be interested in creating high performance code to take advantage on NEON instruction set but wish to use NEON intrinsic instaed of coding assembly. Compiler won't generate NEON opcode unless application use the NEON intrinsic explicitly. Basically, you need ARMv7 build enviroment, so compiler can emit NEON opcode. Intrinsic prototype can be found in public\COMMON\sdk\inc\arm_neon.h and that is all you got. If you ever find an NEON opcode does not have corresponding intrinsic, you still need to use the old trick - write that part of code in assembly.

• Should Site Title be Before or After Page Title?

When creating a large(ish) site, page titles usually reference both the site name and the current page name. However, it seems there are two main conventions: Bob's Awesome Site - Contact Page and Contact Page - Bob's Awesome Site I've looked around, and pages usually use one of the two variants above. Is there any reason to use one over the other? SEO/readability/usability/etc? • GNU Octave - question about graphs and plotting

  I've had task to do - to make an graphical interpretation of adding two functions together: sin(8x) and multiplied -sign(x) in Octave, as shown on image above. And I've done that, but I don't know how to get rid of these lines, which link up gaps between separated values (for example, -1 and 1). I don't want them to be seen especially in third graph. • Can I release complementary Windows 8 and WP8 apps on their respective stores?

  I am creating a pair of apps, one to run preferably on tablets, but also laptops and PCs, and the other for WP8. These apps are complementary - having one is of no use without the other. I know there is a Windows Store, and a Windows Phone store, so one would be released on one, and one on the other. My question is: as these apps are useless by themselves (although in most cases it won't be the same people running both apps), will there be a problem with offering these useless-when-used-alone apps? IOW: Person A will use the Windows 8 app to interact with some people that have the WP8 app installed; those with the WP8 app will interact with a person or people who have the Windows 8 app installed. What I'm worried about is if these apps go through a certification process where they must be useful "standalone" - is that the case?

• Why does wifi hotspot doesn't work correctly?

  I have created the wifi hotspot. In windows, it used to display wifi signal on my nokia C3 but after creating wifi hotspot from ubuntu, I am facing certain problem. Nokia C3 doesn't even gets wifi signal. But wifi signal appears in my samsung mobile GTS3-850 and I can access wifi if I put wifi security option to "none" On the other hand, if I create password then Nomatters, if I type right password or not, it doesn't connect to that wifi. Note : I use Wimax to access internet.

• Is it a good pattern that no objects should know more than what it needs to know?

  I am implementing a viewController class. The view controller class got NSNotification when the Grabbing class start or finish updating. I have 2 choices. I can make the grabbing class to provide a public read only property so all other classes can know whether it is still uploading. Or I can let view Controller to listen to 2 different events. Start updating and finish updating events. The truth is the viewController do need to know whether the grabbing class is still updating or not at any other time. So I am thinking of creating 2 events would be a better way to go. Actually, what do you think?

The numbers above represent forum and thread ID's I am trying to set an Advanced filter, which will rewrite/report the page views in Google Analytics in following form: http://www.mysite.com/forum-67.html http://www.mysite.com/thread-29036.html Can someone please assist me in creating an Advanced Google Analytics filter which will enable me to see URL's so they can be live and send to correct page. Is there another method to achieve what I'm looking for ? Obviously there will be a need for some RegExp matches, but I cannot get around it.
