• Triggering CSV download using Javascript?

  I have an url /reportcsv that generates a plain text csv with Content-type: text/csv and Content-disposition: attachment; filename=report.csv. I want trigger this csv to be downloaded using Javascript. I'm considering two methods: 1) Setting location.href = /reportcsv 2) Setting an iframe url to /reportcsv Both seem to work in Safari. I was wondering if there is any difference between them, or if one is recommended over the other. My main requirement is that I don't want the user to leave the current page.

• Android 2.1 address bar causes change in viewport dimensions

  Hi, I have a page that has a 100% width and height div in it (all surrounding elements are sized accordingly so that it does actually achieve 100% width and height). Below that div I have a second div with a fixed height. In mobile safari and blackberry everything is fine, when the page loads the dimensions are applied correctly (the top div filling the viewport) and the user can scroll down to reveal the second div. Android 2.1 also applies the dimensions correctly, but with an added quirk; when the user scrolls down and removes the address bar from the page, the dimensions of the div are recalculated to fill the viewport, causing the content to jump. Ideally I would like the dimensions of the div to remain static when the page is scrolled, but remain 100% so that it will fill the viewport regardless of device size or orientation. Does anyone know of any way to disable this recalculation? Thanks for any help you can provide.

  There's a convoluted backstory involving how I came across this, but why is the self property not exactly equal to the window itself? In Safari and Firefox and friends, the results are as I'd expect: > window == window.self true > window === window.self true The same isn't true in Internet Explorer, though: >> window == window.self true >> window === window.self false Can anybody account for the inconsistency? To exactly what is the self property of the window object pointing? It casts to something with equality, which is even more vexing.

• What service can hold CPU at lowest frequency possible when on battery load under Ubuntu?

  When I'm running on battery even with "performance" frequency scaling governor, something regularly lowers CPU speed to it's lowest value. I don't really want that, my AC strip usually in another room so I don't really need to save power. How can I find what service doing that? laptop_mode is disabled so that's not it. Update: Looks like CPU being scaled down only if it is under load. If it is more or less idle, it could stay on any frequency pretty much forever, but once it gets loaded, it quickly jumps to it's lowest frequency.   Hi there, I was wondering if it's possible to create a HTML div container with some CSS magic that shows a horizontal scrollbar like the one with the screenshots on the iTunes preview on the web. I want this to work in Safari on the iPhone. e.g. http://itunes.apple.com/app/super-monkey-ball/id281966695?mt=8 I would like to use that to display thumbnails in an UIWebView on iPhone. • Firefox loses app tabs when I shut down my computer sometimes

  When I shut down my computer sometimes my app tabs do not reopen in Firefox and I need to remake all of them which is pretty annoying. I don't know if this is a common bug it might be specific to my computer. I run Vista x64 and it just seems to still have quite a bit of problems. Sometimes when I command it to shut down it does not simply showing shut down loading for hours so I need to manually turn it off. I think that might be messing up Firefox but I'm not sure. I also found a related thread on Bugzilla about this problem but I don't think it's the same issue as it only happens when I shut down my computer.

• How to disable auto-assume in Google Chrome

  I've noticed that whenever I sign in in Google Chrome version 21.0 it automatically assumes and it automatically knows what I want to search. I basically use the address bar to search(my default search engine is Google) I don't go type Google.com on the address bar and then search from there. So what happens is that when I type something for example "vernier" for vernier caliper I'm automatically redirected to my facebook account which has a user account name of vern.ancheta. It's really getting annoying, this happens for every search term that I used maybe even ones that I haven't used before in my entire search history in Google. It always assumes as if it knows what I'm really thinking. What's the solution for this? Is this a bug in Google Chrome or just one of its annoying features. Please enlighten me on this.

• Deleting sender from Outlook Safe Senders using GPO?

  We're having an external company do a mailshot to our users. The message contains images that are linked rather than embedded in the image (bandwidth isn't an issue). So of course on recent versions of Outlook you're prompted to download the images, not the end of the world, but it would be nice if that didn't happen. There's a bug in the Office/Outlook ADM/ADMX templates that means that a custom list of Safe Senders won't import unless you follow this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2252421 Thing is, if I remove an entry from the Safe Senders file, it doesn't seem to remove it from Outlook, which seems odd?

  I don't know why it happens but my form for some reason does not post properly.   I've a webpage with one text-box and one button. Click on button will show a popup for searching. On popup page,has 2 buttons, "Search" and "Close". Input the text and click Search, the result will display on a list on this popup, click on a row will close the popup and fill the value to text-box on main-page. On Destop browser, it works fine On Safari on iPad, it will open new tab instead of a popup but work fine. UIWebview in my app, on main-page, click the button, I will go to Search page, but when click Search button and close button, nothing happened, I know because 2 buttons will close the popup or the tab, but I don't know how to handle on my Webview, and also I can fill data to main-page or not?   I'm trying to use uWSGI with a virtual env in order to use the Trac bug tracker on it. I've installed system-wide uwsgi via pip. Next, I've installed trac in a virtualenv $ virtualenv venv $ . venv/bin/activate $ pip install trac I've then written a simple uWSGI configuration script: [uwsgi] master = true processes = 1 socket = localhost:3032 home = /srv/http/trac/venv/ no-site = true gid = www-data uid = www-data env = TRAC_ENV=/srv/http/trac/projects/my_project module = trac.web.main:dispatch_request But when I try to launch it, it fails: $ uwsgi --http :8000 --ini /etc/uwsgi/vassals-available/my_project.ini --gid www-data --uid www-data ... Set PythonHome to /srv/http/trac/venv/ ... *** Operational MODE: single process *** ImportError: No module named trac.web.main unable to load app 0 (mountpoint='') (callable not found or import error) I think uWSGI isn't using the virtual env. When inside the virtual env, I can import trac.web.main without having an ImportError. How can I do that ? Thanks

  I have a span text block inside a paragraph. Inside this span block I have two paragraph breaks. On webkit, the browser renders the first paragraph correctly but fails back to browser default settings on the last two. • html5media & flowplayer wmode issues...

  I'm working on our new homepage and need to implement a solution that will run a video across iphone/ipad and the standard web browsers. I found a pretty decent solution with html5media - http://code.google.com/p/html5media/ but ran across an issue with a jquery dropdown falling behind the the swf object (this only happens on FF & IE - works fine on Safari & Chrome because it's loading mp4 instead of a swf object). I know the issue is the wmode setting but can not for the life of me figure out where to set it in the html5media (http://html5media.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/html5media.min.js). I'm hoping someone can help me or possibly give me a better solution of implementing the video.   I'm trying to run a service that uses $HOME and $USER environment variables. I could set them in service itself, but that would only be a temporary solution. Let's say I have a script test.sh with following content: echo $USER And I run it with start-stop-daemon to see my results: $ start-stop-daemon --start --exec `pwd`/test.sh --user guest --group guest --chuid -guest root Seems like it does not update environment, maybe that should be reported as a bug? I have found a nasty hacky solution, which only works (for unknown reason) on my this simple use case: $ start-stop-daemon --exec /usr/bin/sudo --start -- -u guest -i 'echo $USER' guest I'm sure someone else stumbled upon this, I'm interested in clean solution. $ start-stop-daemon --version start-stop-daemon 1.13.11+gentoo

• How can you implement a jQuery feature without having IE prompt users with an Active X warning?

  Essentially, I want to implement a jQuery feature on a site that I'm building, but I don't want Internet Explorer users to have to click "Allow Blocked Content". The feature works fine with Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. It's only IE that prompts the users with the Active X warning. I'm using the following jQuery cycle plugin: http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/ I thought that I might simply have to live with the fact that users have to click on the Active X message when they use the site, but Zendesk (www.zendesk.com) is using the same implementation and that site doesn't prompt me with the warning. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated.

• Problem with Juggernaut and transparent wmode in Adobe AIR

  Hi, I am trying to use juggernaut in Adobe AIR application, however the big issue with this is that the juggernaut flash file should have wmode parameter set to 'transparent'. This is a bit of a problem for juggernaut because it seems that it doesn't work with that parameter included. The interesting part is that it is working under Linux on all browsers and in air application, but on Windows it's working only with Safari all other browsers including the AIR application are not even connecting to the juggernaut server. So the question is, what is the cause of this and if anyone had similar problem I would be interested to hear about solutions or workarounds. Thanks, Peco

  Courtesy of goal.com Check the pointer that I drew. It doesn't point the right arrow (-), however, it looks like hover on that arrow (arrow turns into green color). Moreover, when I press at that area, it will be directed to link that is specified by that button. Another bug is on the scroll bar. The display show the scroll bar is shifted left, so there is a gap. However, the area that can be clicked remain at the right end of the page.

• Why can't I use relative URLs with IE7?

  Hello everyone. I've been Googling for a while and can't seem to find an answer to this question. My problem is as follows: For my jquery, I need my links to be relative rather than absolute. My PHP is set to return relative urls and everything is working fine, until I test it in IE7. For some reason, IE7 keeps changing my relative urls to abosulute, which breaks my js script. Is this normal? Is there a way to get around it?   This is a question to all web-developers working in the industry more than a few years. Today the server guy at my work told me that his browser didnt render a google font I used on a site properly, so I checked his browser - it was firefox 3.5. (google font Raleway).. This made me think.. I know for some of our sites its a requirement to support IE6 (larger corperate sites) but for the rest (personal sites) should I be looking at developing for all incrments of firefox, chrome, IE and safari???? Does your company still support IE6? • Determine coordinates of rotated rectangle

  I'm creating an utility application that should detect and report the coordinates of the corners of a transparent rectangle (alpha=0) within an image. So far, I've set up a system with Javascript + Canvas that displays the image and starts a floodfill-like operation when I click inside the transparent rectangle in the image. It correctly determines the bounding box of the floodfill operation and as such can provide me the correct coordinates. Here's my implementation so-far: http://www.scriptorama.nl/image/ (works in recent Firefox / Safari ). However, the bounding box approach breaks down then the transparent rectangle is rotated (CW or CCW) as the resulting bounding box no longer properly represents the proper width and height. I've tried to come up with a few alternatives to detect to corners, but have not been able to think up a proper solution. So, does anyone have any suggestions on how I might approach this so I can properly detect the coordinates of 4 corners of the rotated rectangle?

• Which video format(s) should a webapp serve?

  I need to put up a few videos on a Webapp and I'm a bit lost. My requirements are: DRM is not a concern at all it should work on the iPhone (and iPad) and on the main browsers (Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera). it is not a problem at all if the video doesn't play on Linux (because it's a video/screencast of a Windows/OS X software targetted at, well, Windows and OS X users) it is not a problem at all if it also works on Linux (I'm a Linux user myself) Can a unique format be served (like H.264) and play without any additional work on my part or do I need to convert the videos to different formats and have the webapp serve different video formats depending on the browser used? Should I use the "video" tag of HTML5 when I detect an HTML5 capable browser? What's the "safest" bet here? I take it that Flash is out of the equation seen that iPhone/iPad is a requirement.

• MPMoviePlayerController seems to make 2 calls for each movie

  I seem to have an issue where an iphone app using the MPMoviePlayerController seems to make 2 calls to the server for each video it wants to play back. This occurs with iphone 3.x OS and libraries but not with iphone 2.x. I know that iphone does progressive download and will make multiple 206 requests, etc. but as far as our back end is concerned the player appears to make 2 separate sessions. This only appears to be an issue with iPhone native apps and not iphone videos played through safari. Additional info from apple: iPhone OS 3.0 added support for streaming audio and video over HTTP, and MPMoviePlayerController must validate the media before playback to determine if it is streaming content or progressively downloaded content. This is the delay you are experiencing. On a fast network, the delay should be minimized. Is this double check causing 2 sessions be created for each video request? Any one else seeing same issue? Is there a remedy?
