• win7-64 sp1: Rename folder (including zip file) error popup

  With the install of Windows 7 x64 Service Pack 1 (SP1) I get a windows explorer popup on any folder rename including .zip files. Could not find this item They are referring to the old name. What a bug. If I click "Try Again' the popup goes away, folder is renamed. Lots of posts on the net about this but no fixes. I tried a registry patch (that I shouldn't have) and it did nothing to fix. This started happening after the install of sp1.

• VMware Workstation 7 build 203739 - Capture Movie Mouse Pointer Not Visible

  Hi, I have noticed that whenever I create a Capture Movie, the movie is fine but the mouse pointer is not visible at all. The clicks are on buttons file menus are executed but is hard for a viewer of the capturre movie session to follow the recording smoothly. This was not a problem in previous versions of WorkStation. Is this a bug or is there a setting I can set to see the mouse pointer? Note: VM Tools are installed, Host is Vista Ultimate Edtion SP1, x64 and the guest is a Win XP SP2. • Excel 2010 -Excel cannot complete this task with available resources

  Getting this error when trying to sort a document (Excel cannot complete this task with available resources). Document isn't particularly large, about 4,000 lines. Can't seem to figure out why this would start on this. I can sort this same file fine on everything back to Excel 2000 on older crappy computers. Computer is running Win 7 x64, 16 Gb RAM, and another 16 Gb of virtual. There's no possible way that all of the memory is actually getting exhausted when I can perform this on an older XP machine with 512 Mb of RAM, unless 2010's memory usage is inconceivably poorly designed. I found a few posts on forums stating that there might be a security update related bug. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Loading HTML5 video on iPad via onclick event tied to a div

  I'm developing an HTML5 application (a game), that automatically preloads 5 video files. I'm able to do so correctly on Safari for PC, so there are no overlooked problems with file formats, codecs or such. The load fails on an iPad. As an official guide for video on iOS puts it: This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not. Does this mean, that I have no means to initiate the loading of video after a user initiated action, if that action hasn't been tied to a video element (user clicked on a regular div — I request loading and displaying of a video, compared to the user actually clicking on a video element to load and play that particular element)? • Get back the default browser styling for input fields

  I need to style all the input fields but one. So i have set a rule for all the inputs on the site. For the seachfield i need to use the browser default, so i was thinking i could just inherit all the values i have set for the general input fields. (have tried border: none to) This does not work in FF nor Safari :( The border just gets transparent. http://jsfiddle.net/N5KKH/1/ Any idea how i could get the default browser styling back? • icons in windows 7 taskbar moving by themselves

  I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Few days ago I pinned another one application to taskbar and moved it to the left side. But it moved to the right by itself! I tried to return it to the left side but it went to the right again. The same thing happens now with another application (I've uninstalled the application from the first paragraph - not because of a bug, I just don't like it). It's really annoying. I want it on the left side! How to lock it in? I don't know why but it have (2) in the taskbar shortcut's name: 'Mindjet MindManager 8 (2)'

• How to Check the Performance of VPS?

  I have subscribed to a VPS offered by a hosting provider. The guaranteed performance 1GB RAM, 1M bandwidth. But I found that from time to time the websites can be very slow, so slow that it could take more than 30 seconds to load a simple Joomla website. However the website resumed the usual speed after a few minutes. This created a problem for me when I want to report the performance problem to the hosting provider. They would say to me "see, no problem". Of course there is no problem because the problem is only there for a few minutes , and everything is normal. This ocassionally-slow problem will bug me a few days later and the cycle repeats. Any idea how to solve this problem?

• ionice idle is ignored

  I have been testing the ionice command for a while and the idle (3) mode seems to be ignored in most cases. My test is to run both command at the same time: du <big folder> ionice -c 3 du <another big folder> If I check both process in iotop I see no difference in the percentage of io utilization for each process. To provide more information about the CFQ scheduler I'm using a 3.5.0 linux kernel. I started doing this test because I'm experimenting a system lag each time a daily cron job updatedb.mlocate is executed in my Ubuntu 12.10 machine. If you check the /etc/cron.daily/mlocate file you realize that the command is executed like: /usr/bin/ionice -c3 /usr/bin/updatedb.mlocate Also, the funny thing is that whenever my system for some reason starts using swap memory, the updatedb.mlocate io process is been scheduled faster than kswapd0 process, and then my system gets stuck. • Backup all plesk MySQL Databases to individual files

  Hy, Because I'm new to shell scripting I need a hand. I currently backup all mydatabases to a single file, thing that makes the restore preaty hard. The second problem that my MySQL password dosen't work because of a Plesk bug and i get the password from "/etc/psa/.psa.shadow". Here is the code that I use to backup all my databases to a single file. mysqldump -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` --all-databases | bzip2 -c > /root/21.10.2013.sql.bz2 I found some scripts on the web that backup each database to individual files but I don't know how to make them work for my situation. Here is a example script: for db in $(mysql -e 'show databases' -s --skip-column-names); do mysqldump $db | gzip > "/backups/mysqldump-$(hostname)-$db-$(date +%Y-%m-%d-%H.%M.%S).gz"; done Can someone help me make the script above work for my situation? • How do I remove 1,000,000 directories?

  I found that in a directory more than 1,000,000 subdirectories has been created due to a bug. I want to remove all these directories, let's say in the directory WebsiteCache. My first approach was to use the command line tool: cd WebsiteCache rmdir /Q /S . This will remove all subdirectories except the directory WebsiteCache itself, since it is the current working directory. I noticed after two hours that the directoriws starting with A-H have been removed. Why does rmdir removes the directories in alphabetical order? It must take additional effort to do this ordered. What is the fastest way to delete such an amount of directories?

  Well i want from the drop down menu(Menu Item List) one item to be working as an link, to open an url/website in safari - thats it. When this is so simple, why no one come up with a clue here - I tried many different ways in Xcode, with Apple Xcode Samples... i think i need an AppDelegate.m, drag or link some parts, get actions... i failed to get it going somewhere - now i'm lost. • Embedded Google Earth Plug-Ins no longer working

  I really hope someone can help me. I just noticed that none of my website's Google Earth embedded plug-in's work anymore (in Safari, Chrome or Firefox)  All you can see now is blank space and small text that says "Information is temporarily unavailable." I have no idea why they would no longer be working.  Nothing has changed whatsoever. • Links in rounded boxes? In ALL browsers (yep included IE8)

  I tried maaaany script but every time I get stuck in something bad. My goal is to create rounded boxes for links. You can see an example of I'm talking about here in the read more link (effects not necessary). Very common I know, but I want to make it work in eeeevery browsers at least safari, FF, chrome and most important IE7+ (IE6 not necessary...). The script that took me closest to the solution is Cornerz but I can't fix a very bad issue on IE8. Does anybody knows a way to get rid of this or to achieve my goal?   parseInt("7em", 10); returns 7 in all browsers I tested [*]. But can I rely on this? The reason I ask is, that I want to perform some calculations based on em, like /* elem1.style.top uses em units */ elem2.style.top = parseInt(elem1.style.top, 10) + 1 + "em"; I could do this with regular expressions, but parseInt is easier to use, and probably a bit faster. • Small line-height cross-browser difference

  So basicly my problem is that the line-heights in Firefox are a little bittle "larger" than in other browsers even though they're all fixed line-heights. For example, you have a block element which has a height from 100px and the line-height is set to 102px. Now, in Firefox the vertical alignment of text is perfect. But in the latest Chrome and Safari 4, the text stands 2px or so higher. Isn't there any way to fix this? Thanks.

• WebView with NSShadow slowdown

  I have a webview that shows some animated boxes, but it slows down and lags horribly when I put a drop shadow in the view. Without the shadow, the webview contents animate smoothly. I achieved a similar effect as safari/chrome when you do a elastic scroll with the touchpad. Looks nice! But doesnt run as smooth as in my inspirations. • Avoid Windows Explorer to load complete executable file

  On Windows Vista, when browsing to a network folder containing executables, Windows Explorer seems to load all the files completely just to be able to show the executable icon (the resource monitor indicates loads of traffic during the loading of the directory) On XP only a part of the file is loaded. Is there a way to avoid the complete loading of these files? Note that disabling my anti virus does not help. Update: This only happens with for executable linked with /SWAPRUN:NET. Microsoft confirmed this as a bug in Vista, but they seem not very eager to fix this.

• Any advantage to using SVG font in @font-face instead of TTF/EOT?

  I am investigating the usage of SVG fonts in @font-face declaration. So far, only Safari 4 and Opera 10 seem to support it (see an example for test [1]). Firefox 3.5 does not support it but there is a bug report [2] but no fix has been supplied yet (though there are patches). I also came across this discussion[3] which tangentially talks about advantages/disadvantages of SVG fonts. I am wondering, with @font-face support in major browsers, what is the advantage of using SVG font format in lieu of TTF/OTF/EOT formats? The only advantage I can glean from the discussion linked above was that you can add your own missing gylphs to fonts that do not support them yet. Is there any other reason to specify SVG fonts in CSS? [1], [2], [3] links respectively in http://linkbun.ch/e3mc

• nfs mount fails in Ubuntu 10, but not with -v

  (1) mount -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (2) mount -v -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (1) Used to work with Ubuntu 9 and now fails with Ubuntu 10 (2.6.32-21-generic kernel) with the error: mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified Strangely, adding -v (verbose) in (2) makes the problem go away. This is currently a blocker for me because the fstab line: remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint nfs owner,rw 0 0 causes the same error (I don't believe I can specify verbose in fstab). Is this a bug in mount or my options really incorrect?
