• nfs mount fails in Ubuntu 10, but not with -v

  (1) mount -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (2) mount -v -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (1) Used to work with Ubuntu 9 and now fails with Ubuntu 10 (2.6.32-21-generic kernel) with the error: mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified Strangely, adding -v (verbose) in (2) makes the problem go away. This is currently a blocker for me because the fstab line: remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint nfs owner,rw 0 0 causes the same error (I don't believe I can specify verbose in fstab). Is this a bug in mount or my options really incorrect?

  Hi, I'm looking to create an extension for the leading browsers (firefox, safari and ie). Its rather simple, and I'm looking for the most efficient way to go about this. I need to get the hostname of the current site the user is on, and if it matches a certain parameter(eg, mysite.org), I'll need to append to the link some extra data and refresh to the new link. What is the simplest way to go about this? (I don't want to go in the direction of a bookmarklet - since this would require the user to click. I'd like this to happen automatically) sort of something like this: if(window.location.hostname == 'mysite.org') { location.replace(document.location.href + '/&mystuff=xyz'); } Thanks!

• ondevicemotion in Chrome desktop returns true

  I am using a "shake" function from github - and it has a detection that is browser-based javascript. //feature detect this.hasDeviceMotion = 'ondevicemotion' in window; This though yields true even on Chrome on OS X. It feels strange, since I am not willing to shake my monitor on my desktop. Safari on OS X gives me "false" in return when testing. I have searched but not been able to find out why Chrome decided to take this path. It bugs me. Is there a better way to make this detection? Not all "mobile devices" has shake as well.. or does not let the browser have that capability, as it does not seem to work in windows phones.

• Windows XP doesn't like small subnets?

  This totally sounds like a bug to me, because my subnet mask and IP address should be valid by all accounts. My ISP has assigned me a fixed IP address of 65.110.7.20, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252. Which sounds about right, because we're trying to set up a router with a /31 network - just 4 ip addresses. But when I try to set this IP and netmask up in Windows XP, I get the following error: "The combination of IP address and subnet mask are invalid. All of the bits in the host address portion of the IP address are set to 0." But they're not all set to 0. That would be a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255. Even then, that too is a valid subnet mask, consisting of a network of 1 IP address. Is there a way around this? A registry hack maybe?

My thought is that FF is just stripping out what it doesn't understand while the others are not. Has anyone else seen this and/or getting different results from the test script?

• JSON.stringify() supported by IE 8?

  I need to use: JSON.stringify() which should be supported by chrome, safari, and FF (I think). I think IE8 also has support for the JSON object. I think IE7 and 6 do not, so I'm doing this: <!--[if lt IE 8]> <script src="http://www.json.org/json2.js"></script> <![endif]--> so, I think this will import the external javascript only if IE6 & 7. I looked at the url where the script is hosted, they are including only if the IE version is less than 9: http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/ <!--[if lt IE 9]> <script src="http://www.json.org/json2.js"></script> <![endif]--> so should I be including this for IE 8 too? • Why do I get a PHP 5.2.6 segmentation fault when using PDO_SQlite?

  This is an installation on ModWest's shared hosting. I have enabled both PDO and PDO_sqlite on the server and phpinfo() verifies both are running. When I access PDO itself, I'm fine, and getting a meaningful error. <?php $dbh = new PDO(""); ?> This gives me an "Invalid Connection String" error. But, as soon as I begin a connection string with sqlite:, I get a total crash. When I run via the webserver, I'm seeing NO error. When I enter a nonexistant filename, PHP does indeed create the file. I tried running the constructor via CLI and there I do get a simple error: Segmentation Fault I'm not seeing ANYTHING in the PHP 5.2.6 changelogs about this bug. Anyone have any additional troubleshooting steps? The OS is Debian 5.0.4

• Getting HTMLUnknownElement with jQuery.find() and an XML Document

  I'm attempting to load up an XML document (specifically an RSS feed) via an Ajax request, parse it, and insert some information based on said feed into my page. The code works fine in Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Safari, but not IE7. Go figure. After doing some initial debugging, I've found that the XML string is being retrieved via the request, and the specific node type I'm getting when trying to parse nodes out of the document is HTMLUnknownElement. Here's the relevant code: $.get('feed.php', function(oXmlDoc) { var titles = $(oXmlDoc).find('title'); var dates = $(oXmlDoc).find('pubDate'); for(var i = 0; i < 5; i++) { parseNodes(titles[i].firstChild.nodeValue, dates[i].firstChild.nodeValue)); } }); The parseNodes function is never actually being hit because IE cannot access firstChild and, consequently, nodeValue. Thanks in advance for any ideas and/or suggestions on how to address this.

• Graphical Submit button doesn't 'post' in Firefox or IE

  I've looked all over the net to try and solve this problem, but I can't find any solutions. So far, I've checked 3 different browsers. It does not work on IE or FireFox, but it works just fine in Safari. Here's the problem. I have until now buildt web-pages with floats, but now I need z-index, and therefore I need to use position The test page is here http://www.it-stud.h...hovedp/combine/ The problem being the timelines (vertical multicoloured lines on the right), and this looks and works fine in FireFox and Opera for Mac and Pc, IE8, but scary things happens in Chrome and Safari.   This might seem like a really dumb question, but I am writing an application and I have come across where my mouse-over, mouse-click and mouse-hover need different events bound to them. Now on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. It all works as expected. However, on my iPhone the actions will not trigger. Now my question is are their any specific ways I can have the Mouse-Over essentially be fired when I hold my finger down and trigger an event? An example where this doesn't work is right on this website when you hover over a comment it is supposed to display the +1 or flag icon. I am using jquery.

  I thought by placing these two lines that it would prevent the page from being cached but this is not the case between the head tags: <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> As already mentioned this is on server that doesn't support PHP (or any server side language, well, that's not true, it has cgi-bin folder that supports perl scripts but I don't know perl and have no time to engage in it.) What else could I do to prevent the page from caching? It caches on Firefox and IE (and not so much in Chrome or Safari.)

• Why do I have to enter my password every time I activate / deactivate AirPort (WiFi) on my MacBook P

  I use Snow Leopard, and I'm used to activate / deactivate WiFi like 20 times per day. The reason is that WiFi stops working properly after a few minutes of use. So every time I try to surf, I must stop/reactivate it first. But now, suddenly I have to enter my user password every time I want to do it. It's so annoying! The dialogue details say: Right: com.apple.airport.power Program: SystemUIServer What can I do that the Mac won't ask me for the password every time? It's hard enough that I have to stop/reactivate WiFi all the time (hardware bug). I have a admin account with full rights.

Firefox's profiler says I'm spending the most time in this function and I'm curious as to why that is. Is there a way to get the em size in javascript without doing all this work? I would like to recalculate the size on resize incase the user has changed it.

• AJAX Problem - No response text in FireFox, but ok in IE

  Hi, I am making a simple AJAX call to an external site. It works ok in IE, but in Firefox, not response text is returned. I think it might have something to do with the response being "chunked", but I'm not sure. Any ideas? • I want to run both MAMP and native local webserver on mac os x 10.6.4

  I have set up a local webserver using MAMP on ports 8888 for Apache and 8889 for MySQL - I am using this exclusively for Drupal 6 multisite. I would also like to have a local webserver using the native mac os x capabilities through ports 80 and 3306. Is it possible to run both MAMP local server and native osx webserver concurrently? I have tried to install php on my local server by editing the http.conf file but whenever I open a .php file (any php file) using Firefox I get an infinite loop of blank browser windows opening (FF) or in Safari the actual code of the php file is displayed rather than the php processed page.   Windows 8's Blue Screen of Death is different from the previous Windows versions' one: In order to find out what caused the problem you need to write down or remember the search term it presents you with. The two search terms I have seen suggested so far are SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED. Both of them are quite generic terms. While it’s nice not to have to look at a blue screen full of text, the previous BSoD was more informative than the Windows 8 BSoD, since it contained a detailed error code (information for diagnostic purposes that was collected as the operating system performed a bug check), which could get you closer to tracking down the root of the problem. How can I get more information about the error Windows 8 has encountered, in order to track down the root of the problem?

• Problems with viewing site in Internet Exploder

  I built a site and I'm just about finished. It displays properly in all the browsers I have (Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) but my client is not computer savvy at all and still uses Internet Explorer, so that's all he's using to view the site. I don't have IE to test the site so I've been using BrowserStack.com and I see in IE that the site is broken. The navigation bar has a white background and is pushed down a line, and the logo isn't appearing. • Browser-Incompatability with image alignment in CSS using YUI grid (Firefox + Opera)

  I'm having trouble with the alignment of two images on the footer of my temporary website (http://www.rotimioyewole.com). I'm new to the YUI grid, which I think may be a factor. • Problems with Finder background images produced in Mac OS X 10.6?

  Morning all. I'm creating DMG installers with background pictures. My build machine is 10.6. I'm having problems getting them working consistently: If I create one on 10.4 it works fine in 10.5, 10.5 and 10.6, If I create one for 10.5 it works fine in 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6, But if I create one in 10.6, the background picture shows in 10.6 but does not show in 10.4 or 10.5. I think I recall having seen similar reports in one or two places but there's not much information on the web. Has anyone here come across this problem? Is it recognised? Fixable? Unfortunately I have no option of running 10.5 on my build machine... Thanks! Update: This is a confirmed known bug in 10.6 . I will update this if there is any extra news.

I'm developing a website and for the first time i found problems using cufon... if you think u know about cofon check this.. http://universite.jvsoftware.com If you open with firefox and IE, you will notice in the navigation bar, when you over the titles will appear a border (actually is an image) but if you open it with chrome or safari, that image doesnt appear.... the cufon script is easy to find in the source code, also the css. It it working in FF, Chrome/Safari but not in IE 7/8. Is there something I'm missing here? Big Picture: We're using a swf to render custom type and there is a link in the rendered (flash) content. We're hoping to catch the link action in the jQuery listener so we don't have to extend our swf have an optional param to return false on link click.
