• UITextView or UIWebView with normal words looking like links

  Hey guys, I was looking at the Twitter for iPhone app and was puzzled. First of all, there are normal words looking like links inside. Second, when I touch those link-like words, the text view (or maybe web view) jumps to the corresponding part below (yes, it doesn't open Safari, it just jumps to the text within that text/web view) Now I want to implement the same effects. I should base my implementation on what? UITextView or UIWebView? How to make normal words look like links? How to make those smooth jumps within such a text/web views? Thanks in advance.

• ondevicemotion in Chrome desktop returns true

  I am using a "shake" function from github - and it has a detection that is browser-based javascript. //feature detect this.hasDeviceMotion = 'ondevicemotion' in window; This though yields true even on Chrome on OS X. It feels strange, since I am not willing to shake my monitor on my desktop. Safari on OS X gives me "false" in return when testing. I have searched but not been able to find out why Chrome decided to take this path. It bugs me. Is there a better way to make this detection? Not all "mobile devices" has shake as well.. or does not let the browser have that capability, as it does not seem to work in windows phones.

  Here's the sample code: var d = new Date("2010-06-09T19:20:30+01:00"); document.write(d); On FF3.6 this will give you: Wed Jun 09 2010 14:20:30 GMT-0400 (EST) Other browers tested; Chrome 5, Safari 4, IE7 give: Invalid Date I know there is limited to no support for ISO8601 dates, but does anyone know what and/or where the difference is in FF3.6 that allows this to work? My thought is that FF is just stripping out what it doesn't understand while the others are not. Has anyone else seen this and/or getting different results from the test script?

• Any advantage to using SVG font in @font-face instead of TTF/EOT?

  I am investigating the usage of SVG fonts in @font-face declaration. So far, only Safari 4 and Opera 10 seem to support it (see an example for test [1]). Firefox 3.5 does not support it but there is a bug report [2] but no fix has been supplied yet (though there are patches). I also came across this discussion[3] which tangentially talks about advantages/disadvantages of SVG fonts. I am wondering, with @font-face support in major browsers, what is the advantage of using SVG font format in lieu of TTF/OTF/EOT formats? The only advantage I can glean from the discussion linked above was that you can add your own missing gylphs to fonts that do not support them yet. • JSON.stringify() supported by IE 8?

  I need to use: JSON.stringify() which should be supported by chrome, safari, and FF (I think). I think IE8 also has support for the JSON object. I think IE7 and 6 do not, so I'm doing this: <!--[if lt IE 8]> <script src="http://www.json.org/json2.js"></script> <![endif]--> so, I think this will import the external javascript only if IE6 & 7. I looked at the url where the script is hosted, they are including only if the IE version is less than 9: http://code.google.com/p/html5shiv/ <!--[if lt IE 9]> <script src="http://www.json.org/json2.js"></script> <![endif]--> so should I be including this for IE 8 too? • nfs mount fails in Ubuntu 10, but not with -v

  (1) mount -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (2) mount -v -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (1) Used to work with Ubuntu 9 and now fails with Ubuntu 10 (2.6.32-21-generic kernel) with the error: mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified Strangely, adding -v (verbose) in (2) makes the problem go away. This is currently a blocker for me because the fstab line: remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint nfs owner,rw 0 0 causes the same error (I don't believe I can specify verbose in fstab). Is this a bug in mount or my options really incorrect?

• Graphical Submit button doesn't 'post' in Firefox or IE

  I've looked all over the net to try and solve this problem, but I can't find any solutions. So far, I've checked 3 different browsers. It does not work on IE or FireFox, but it works just fine in Safari. Here's the problem. When I click the button to submit my form, it forwards me to the 'post' URL page - INSTEAD of posting the data, and going to the thank you page like the script commands. • Why do I get a PHP 5.2.6 segmentation fault when using PDO_SQlite?

  This is an installation on ModWest's shared hosting. I have enabled both PDO and PDO_sqlite on the server and phpinfo() verifies both are running. When I access PDO itself, I'm fine, and getting a meaningful error. <?php $dbh = new PDO(""); ?> This gives me an "Invalid Connection String" error. But, as soon as I begin a connection string with sqlite:, I get a total crash. When I run via the webserver, I'm seeing NO error. When I enter a nonexistant filename, PHP does indeed create the file. I tried running the constructor via CLI and there I do get a simple error: Segmentation Fault I'm not seeing ANYTHING in the PHP 5.2.6 changelogs about this bug. Anyone have any additional troubleshooting steps? The OS is Debian 5.0.4

  This might seem like a really dumb question, but I am writing an application and I have come across where my mouse-over, mouse-click and mouse-hover need different events bound to them. Now on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. It all works as expected. However, on my iPhone the actions will not trigger. Now my question is are their any specific ways I can have the Mouse-Over essentially be fired when I hold my finger down and trigger an event? An example where this doesn't work is right on this website when you hover over a comment it is supposed to display the +1 or flag icon. I am using jquery.

• Getting HTMLUnknownElement with jQuery.find() and an XML Document

  I'm attempting to load up an XML document (specifically an RSS feed) via an Ajax request, parse it, and insert some information based on said feed into my page. The code works fine in Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Safari, but not IE7. Go figure. After doing some initial debugging, I've found that the XML string is being retrieved via the request, and the specific node type I'm getting when trying to parse nodes out of the document is HTMLUnknownElement. Here's the relevant code: $.get('feed.php', function(oXmlDoc) { var titles = $(oXmlDoc).find('title'); var dates = $(oXmlDoc).find('pubDate'); for(var i = 0; i < 5; i++) { parseNodes(titles[i].firstChild.nodeValue, dates[i].firstChild.nodeValue)); } }); The parseNodes function is never actually being hit because IE cannot access firstChild and, consequently, nodeValue. • Why do I have to enter my password every time I activate / deactivate AirPort (WiFi) on my MacBook P

  I use Snow Leopard, and I'm used to activate / deactivate WiFi like 20 times per day. The reason is that WiFi stops working properly after a few minutes of use. So every time I try to surf, I must stop/reactivate it first. But now, suddenly I have to enter my user password every time I want to do it. It's so annoying! The dialogue details say: Right: com.apple.airport.power Program: SystemUIServer What can I do that the Mac won't ask me for the password every time? It's hard enough that I have to stop/reactivate WiFi all the time (hardware bug). I have a admin account with full rights.

Firefox's profiler says I'm spending the most time in this function and I'm curious as to why that is. Is there a way to get the em size in javascript without doing all this work? I would like to recalculate the size on resize incase the user has changed it.

• Problems with Finder background images produced in Mac OS X 10.6?

  Morning all. I'm creating DMG installers with background pictures. My build machine is 10.6. I'm having problems getting them working consistently: If I create one on 10.4 it works fine in 10.5, 10.5 and 10.6, If I create one for 10.5 it works fine in 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6, But if I create one in 10.6, the background picture shows in 10.6 but does not show in 10.4 or 10.5. I think I recall having seen similar reports in one or two places but there's not much information on the web. Has anyone here come across this problem? Is it recognised? Fixable? Unfortunately I have no option of running 10.5 on my build machine... Thanks! Update: This is a confirmed known bug in 10.6 . I will update this if there is any extra news.

• I want to run both MAMP and native local webserver on mac os x 10.6.4

  I have set up a local webserver using MAMP on ports 8888 for Apache and 8889 for MySQL - I am using this exclusively for Drupal 6 multisite. I would also like to have a local webserver using the native mac os x capabilities through ports 80 and 3306. Is it possible to run both MAMP local server and native osx webserver concurrently? I have tried to install php on my local server by editing the http.conf file but whenever I open a .php file (any php file) using Firefox I get an infinite loop of blank browser windows opening (FF) or in Safari the actual code of the php file is displayed rather than the php processed page.   I thought by placing these two lines that it would prevent the page from being cached but this is not the case between the head tags: <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> As already mentioned this is on server that doesn't support PHP (or any server side language, well, that's not true, it has cgi-bin folder that supports perl scripts but I don't know perl and have no time to engage in it.) What else could I do to prevent the page from caching? It caches on Firefox and IE (and not so much in Chrome or Safari.)

  Windows 8's Blue Screen of Death is different from the previous Windows versions' one: In order to find out what caused the problem you need to write down or remember the search term it presents you with. The two search terms I have seen suggested so far are SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED. Both of them are quite generic terms. While it’s nice not to have to look at a blue screen full of text, the previous BSoD was more informative than the Windows 8 BSoD, since it contained a detailed error code (information for diagnostic purposes that was collected as the operating system performed a bug check), which could get you closer to tracking down the root of the problem. How can I get more information about the error Windows 8 has encountered, in order to track down the root of the problem?

• Browser-Incompatability with image alignment in CSS using YUI grid (Firefox + Opera)

  I'm having trouble with the alignment of two images on the footer of my temporary website (http://www.rotimioyewole.com). I'm new to the YUI grid, which I think may be a factor. • AJAX Problem - No response text in FireFox, but ok in IE

  Hi, I am making a simple AJAX call to an external site. It works ok in IE, but in Firefox, not response text is returned. I think it might have something to do with the response being "chunked", but I'm not sure. Any ideas? I'm developing a website and for the first time i found problems using cufon... if you think u know about cofon check this.. http://universite.jvsoftware.com If you open with firefox and IE, you will notice in the navigation bar, when you over the titles will appear a border (actually is an image) but if you open it with chrome or safari, that image doesnt appear.... the cufon script is easy to find in the source code, also the css. • Problems with viewing site in Internet Exploder

  I built a site and I'm just about finished. It displays properly in all the browsers I have (Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) but my client is not computer savvy at all and still uses Internet Explorer, so that's all he's using to view the site. I don't have IE to test the site so I've been using BrowserStack.com and I see in IE that the site is broken. The navigation bar has a white background and is pushed down a line, and the logo isn't appearing. • Strange Rendering in Firefox

  I've just noticed when loading my client's page (http://habbopfm.com/) in Firefox, that it renders what looks like a rectangle is pushed down a few pixels. It's difficult to describe, but imagine you took a screenshot of the page, opened it in Photoshop, selected a rectangle and moved it down a bit. IE and Safari don't appear to do this - I'm assuming this is a browser glitch, not a problem with the code. Can anyone confirm what causes this? Below is a screenshot taken of the issue: http://habbopfm.com/problem.png One other thing is that it only does this once the page has finished loading. While it is loading, it looks fine.

Nevertheless it works. And all other sites are also working correctly. Any hints?
