  When creating a new Rails project using: rails sample Then creating a model using: script/generate model person first_name:string last_name:string Everything is fine. However, if I add any gems to my environment.rb: config.gem "authlogic" And run the same generator, I get the following: /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/rails/gem_dependency.rb:119:Warning: Gem::Dependency#version_requirements is deprecated and will be removed on or after August 2010. The warning just recently appeared (I think), but I would like to fix it if possible. Any hints or similar experiences? Thanks.

  retreiveing the Data object through a class which is partial class in linq to sql. i am using the same object model to update the changes. but proprertychanging is always null for this object. An anonoymoustype has been converted into strong object type. This strong type is updated again. any one can expalin reason for this? But I can't catch context menu event every time I click right mouse button. • Is there a definitive list of uri patterns for use in android apps made by google?

  Apart from http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/g-app-intents.html (which is quite good but fairly limited in the number of apps/uri's it covers) I've been unable to find a decent reference source for looking up URI's to use when integrating with google apps. I'm currently working on triggering the "add new contact" UI, and have found that the tel: uri pattern seems to work, but what if I only have a name and an email? I wouldn't have expected I'd need to rely on sample code / trial and error, but I really can't see anywhere where the intent/URI interface is supposed to be documented in android apps. Does such a standard exist? Is there some quasi standard / user database that I can consult? On a platform with such a good inter-interoperability architecture it just seems like something so useful I can't believe it's not there

• text watermark on website? how to do it?

  I am a C++/C# developer and never spent time working on web pages. I would like to put text (randomly and diagonally perhaps) in large letters across the background of some pages. I want to be able to read the foreground text and also be able to read the "watermark". I understand that is probably more of a function of color selection. I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to do what I want. I would imagine this to be very simple for someone with the web design tools or html knowledge. Any links or sample code? Thanks

  Under Vista, when in Basic theme, after calling IUIFramework::Destroy() the Vista theme is lost, and enlarging the window does not display outside of the initial area. You can repro it easily with the SimpleRibbon SDK sample. In simpleribbon.cpp, insert in the WndProc switch block: case WM_KEYUP: DestroyFramework(); InvalidateRect(hWnd, NULL, TRUE); break; Compile, run, hit a key and try to enlarge in Vista Basic Theme (no problem in Win7 or Vista aero or Windows classic).   Hi! I am looking for a stand-alone, easy to use from C# code, template engine. What I want to do is create an html and xml files with placeholders for data, and fill them with data from my code. The engine needs to support loops (duplicating parts of the template form more that one object) and conditions (add parts of the template to the final html/xml only if some conditions are true). Can someone recommend a good option for me, and add a link to more-or-less such code sample, and some documentation about how to use the recommended component for my needs? • Google checkout - Order processing notification handler

  Hi I need to integrate google checkout on my website. I have successfully implemented the order placing and others stuff and using the sandbox I have tested that users can successfully add items to cart and and pay thereafter. I am using my own customized shopping cart written in php mysql. The last thing I need to do is pass the new order id to google checkout and receive notifications with the new order id as well as other data google sends. I know I have to setup a path to the handler script in my accounts. I did it in my sandbox account as well. But can't find a simple pice of code to get it done. Even if I use sample code from google, just cant figure out the format of the returned data in new order notification and also how to send custom data to the cart, which would come back with new order notifications? I am just lost on this. Please help!

  Looking for some best practices of UI list on iPhone which has item add/modify/delete functions. Please refer to some sample codes or articles to build user friendly interface. The main application is tab bar application and one of the tabs supposed to show item management. The item itself consisting of 3 text items, first one can be label, it's short, the rest if it's not terribly complicated I would like to show below with small font or show when user taps on item entering edit mode... • Cannot add an icon to Resources

  Have been inputting and testing some sample code and everything seems to be ok. Just that suddenly I am running into this very frustrating problem of trying to add an icon to the project. Have downloaded an icon file (extension : icns) to my desktop and dragged it to the "Resources" group in xCode. Then a dialogue comes up from xCode where I checked the 2 options : "Copy items into destination group's folder (if needed)" and "Recursively create groups for any added folders". But when I press the "Add" button, an "Alert" message box would come up. It says "Could not copy the icon to ...". Hope that someone knowledgable in this area would give me some hints...

• Design advices for quick navigation between view

  Usually, when a View requires a lot of bindings, or some UI Elements like a Bing Map, it takes a "while" to load (like between half a second and a second). I don't want a delay between a "tap" action (like tapping an element on a ListBox) and the navigation action (displaying a new page). I don't mind displaying the page progressively. For example, for a Bing Map, I don't mind displaying a black page with only a title, and a second later, having the Map appear. What are the best practices ? It could post a sample if i'm not clear enough

• How to "flick" a UIImageView?

  I've got some UIViews that I'd like the user to be able to "flick" across the screen. They're not scroll views. They simply contain a raster image (png). Can anyone point me to some sample code, etc to help get me started? Something a little more heavyweight than "MoveMe" out there that helps detect a "flick" (vs a "nudge" or a drag and drop) and then carries the view off in the direction of the "flick"? OpenGL probably overkill. If possible I'd like to stay w/in the realm of Core Graphics/Animation.

• calling database driver in java app [basically a swing app]

  I have made a java application that allows a user to choose from certain standards and then allows him to customize those standards according to his needs. Now, the customization [via a swing application] that has been made needs to be persistent. For this we use a database [mysql/access] and hook it to the application so that with each customization made, a table [if non-existent] is created [thus making it runtime and we can not pre-determine the table names or the keys of table etc] and an appropriate entry in the table is made. I have written the driver for this connection. How do I call it in the java application and what approach should I take? I would much appreciate that if somebody can refer me some example that not only shows a sample connection being made via driver but its appropriate calls to the database as well so that i can use it as a guide.

• C# Elegant way to handle checking for an item in a collection.

  I've posted a code sample below. Firstly let me explain termStore.Groups in the code below is a collection of Group Objects (The exact class is irrelevant). Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection . One processes is redirecting output of some unix command to a file on server side.the data is always appended to the file eg : find / > tmp.txt 2.)Another process is opening and reading the same file and storing it in a string and sending the entire string to the client Now, this things take simultaneously.   Does anyone know of any open source C# projects or some sample code that implement a synchronous HTTP client using sockets? I'm working on a project where I need a HTTP client using sockets. It can't use WebRequest or WebClient, nor can it use Asynchronous sockets. Don't ask. Also it would ideally be on .NET 2.0, yeah very cutting edge here. I figured the web would have tons of samples for this but suprisingly I couldn't find any. Probably because everyone is fortunate enough to use the built in APIs. If I don't find something I'll have to write it myself, which I don't really want to have to reinvent that wheel.

• What is the benefit to wrapping every sql/stored proc invocation in a transaction?

  The following code executes one stored procedure. The stored procedure has only one command in it. Is there any benefit to wrapping everything in a transaction, even it only has one SQL statement in it (or one stored proc that has only one sql statement)? In the sample code below, if the delete fails, it fails. There is nothing else to be rolled back (it seems). • ASP.net MVC support for URL's with hyphens

  Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

• C++: FFMPEG and SDL resources

  I'm looking for resources (preferably books, but websites are fine too) for using FFMPEG and/or SDL with C++. Stuff I'd like to be able to do (eventually): Decode and play videos in realtime to a QT widget (the QT part isn't a problem) Overlay text and images on the video (in realtime) Loop video Cross-fade from one video to another (in realtime) Some kind of DVD functionality LIVE sources? (i.e. webcam, stream, etc.) So far I've looked at (and consider helpful) the following resources: FFMPEG and SDL Tutorial by Dranger (extremely helpful) StackOverflow: ffmpeg C API documentation/tutorial (not a duplicate, btw) Sample code bundled with FFMPEG libraries (I'll try and update this list with anything helpful below) Thanks for any help... Also: Operating System is Windows (but maybe one day cross-platform) Also 2: Resources using alternatives are welcome too... i.e. DirectShow, VFW, etc.
