• TrueCrypt partition will no longer mount

  I am hoping for some advice to help me out of my situation, with luck. I have a computer running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with 3 hard disks installed. On my 2TB hard disk 2 (non-system disk) I have 4 partitions. One is for music, another for video, a downloads partition and a 500GB RAW Truecrypt encrypted partition / volume that I had setup to mount with 4 photographs used as keyfiles. The 4 photographs are located in my 'Documents' partition which is one of four partitions on my 1.5TB hard disk 1 (non-system disk) When I setup the disk encryption I did not (I'm 99% sure) create a password, I only used the 4 photograph keyfiles to mount the volume. Recently my 1TB hard disk 0 (system / boot) started to fail so I decided to replace it. I was going to clone the old disk to a new disk but decided that a fresh installation would be more beneficial. Once I had transferred all the required 'User Data' from my old hard disk 0 (C: disk) I discarded it. I reinstalled Truecrypt, pointed to the partition, selected my 4 keyfiles photographs and I mounted my encrypted volume with no issues. In fact I mounted it several times after re-installing Windows and after reboots. Now all of a sudden when I try and mount it I get the message "incorrect keyfile(s) and/or password or not a Truecrypt volume". Now I am not sure why this happened as I do not recall exactly what I did between last mounting the volume successfully and it not mounting. Here are some of the possible things I may have done to cause it to stop working but I am at a loss as to where to start to try and resolve the problem. 1. I had swapped the drive letters to a preferred order. 2. I possibly swapped the physical SATA connectors on the mainboard. 3. I enabled 'Hot Plugging' for the two non-system hard disk SATA ports and the DVD SATA port in the BIOS. I have tried changing the encrypted partition drive letter as suggested in another post but this does not help. On my old system the encrypted drive was drive "X". I have about tried it with all the other free drive letters but alas nothing changes. I do not recall what drive letter was allocated to the encrypted partition before I changed them all. I have not tried to change the letter back to what it possibly was to start with as I am happy with the current layout. I will try this is anyone thinks it would be worthwhile though. I do hope I have managed to convey my situation in an understandable manner and live in hope someone could help me recover years of personal files. • PC reboots instead of shutting down, no software problem. What could be the cause?

  Hi, first of all: I'm not sure if superuser is the right site for my question and google didn't help. I have a pc here that prefers rebooting to shuting down. Everytime I try to shut the pc down it reboots, however it is possible to turn the pc off by pressing the power button. The problem is not windows-specific, the Ubuntu LiveCD does exactly the same that's why I said that it is no software problem. I checked wake on LAN, it is disabled and I also resetted the BIOS settings to factory default. That might not mean that it can't be a BIOS problem but I don't know what else to try here. I did not check any hardware yet but nothing exploded so far. I don't know what could have caused this behaviour as it is not my PC. The Mainboard is a ASUS P5Q-E P45.

• Running JBoss 6 with Runit / daemontools or other process supervision framework

  I'm tying to use runit to daemonize JBoss. I use the /opt/jboss-6.1.0.Final/bin/run.sh script to start the server. When I do so from the comandline, JBoss does not detach (which is what we want), and will also shut down when CTRL+C is pressed. In theory a perfect candidate to use runit on. Everything works fine except when I try to get runit to shut down JBoss. When I issue the command sv stop jboss nothing happens. Runit thinks the process is stopped but jboss continues to run normally. I'm not doing anything special with the run script. This is my runit run script: #!/bin/sh exec 2>&1 exec /opt/jboss-6.1.0.Final/bin/run.sh -c standard -b 0.0.0.0 Looking at the jboss_init_redhat.sh script, the start section does mention ./bin/run.sh but the stop section has the following text: JBOSS_CMD_STOP=${JBOSS_CMD_STOP:-"java -classpath $JBOSSCP org.jboss.Shutdown --shutdown"} Any ideas of what I could try?

• I can't connect to my WAMP server from a client on the same network

  Usually I would manually set up Apache and PHP but this time I thought I would go for the WAMP alternative. I've set up WAMP and it's working perfectly fine on the host machine. If I try and access the WAMP server from another machine on the same network (same subnet too: 192.168.1.*) I get this message: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. I have been online and gone through steps. I have changed Allow from 127.0.0.1 to Allow from all and it's still not working. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks.

• Website is live but ping times out

  I have a client's website that is running on GoDaddy hosting and started behaving very strange recently. The site is up and running but when I try to ping it I get time out. The problem is PayPal doesn't work also Google Webmaster reported the site is down. The client spoke with support and they said there is no firewall or any other traffic filter on their side. The site itself is PHP. Any ideas are welcome. I've tried to send test IPN from PayPal to the payment URL and got: IPN delivery failed. Unable to connect to the specified URL. Please verify the URL and try again. Which makes me think that the website/server is inaccessible in some specific cases. • Error when trying to access Shared files from iMac [closed]

  I used to access all my Windows XP shared files on my Mac using Finder -- Window -- Connect to server. Now all of a sudden, an error crops up when I try to connect. I get the error "There was a problem connecting to the server "192.168.1.*" The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your internet connection and then try again. How can I remove this error and access my shared files from my Mac? P.S my network connections is fine.

• Configuring a backup DNS server

  I would like to setup a backup DNS server. I have added all my name servers in my domain name panel. (ns1.domain.com, ns2.domain.com, etc ...) If a person would try to go to domain.com and the first name server would fail, will it automatically try and use ns2.domain.com? All my DNS servers have the same master zones configured. Is that the way to go? Is it that easy or am I missing something here? :)

• Why can't I use %USERPROFILE% in %PATH%?

  On my Windows 7 machine, using the System Properties Environment Variables tool, I try to add %USERPROFILE%\Bin to the system variable PATH. For some reason, that doesn't work, even though %SystemRoot%\system32 works fine. When I try to run commands from the console, files in my Bin folder are not found, even though files in the System32 folder are found. The only difference between UserProfile and SystemRoot that I can see is that the former is a user variable while the latter is a system variable. I i write echo %USERPROFILE%\Bin it yields c:\Users\zano, and if I add c:\Users\zano\Bin explicitly, everything work fine. What's the problem here?

• Can't boot into my Windows 7 64-bit Acer laptop

  Boot normally -- it hangs on "Starting Windows" animation forever. Boot safe mode -- it bluescreens. Boot with a recovery CD (or try Repair Installation directly without a CD) -- it hangs on the green loading bar forever. I dual-boot Ubuntu and can get into the Ubuntu partition fine so I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the harddrive, but the Ubuntu partition is tiny and I rarely use it and can't access my Windows files anyway. Is there anything I can try that'll help repair whatever happened? I just want to run a checkdisk utility or something similar that'll repair whatever got botched. • Creating video with audio and still image for YouTube

  I'm running the following command: ffmpeg -i audio.mp3 -ar 44100 -f image2 -i logo.jpg -r 15 -b 1800 -s 640x480 foo.mov Which successfully outputs a video with my recorded audio and an image on it. When I try and upload this to YouTube it fails to process, regardless of the formats I try: .mov, .avi, .flv, .mp4 Is there some setting I'm missing in the above that would generate a format Youtube will accept? I've tried looking through the ffmpeg documentation but I'm in over my head. I did an experiment by putting a 2 second video with a 30 second mp3. When I uploaded to youtube, the resulting video was only 2 seconds long. So it may be that YouTube looks only to the video track for the length, and since a picture is only a frame long or whatever, maybe that borks it.

• Key is not detected in xev neither showkey -k in Ubuntu 10.04 in a Virtualbox VM.

  My question mark key in my keyboard isn't working. ("?"). I've tried to use xev and showkey -k to try to identify at least it's code and manually use xmodmap to mao this key. Unfortunately, the keys aren't being detected in neither utilities. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 in a Virtual Machine, and my Kernel is 2.6.32-22-generic. What can this be? It's not a special multimedia key, it's a simple one. I would like to understand what exactly is happening so at least I can try to better debug this issue.

• Emacs doesn't use ~/.ssh/config when accessing files on a remote machine

  I have a fresh install of arch Linux. I've installed Emacs from the rpos, and my home directory is mounted from a separate partition. I have old settings I've used on my ~/.ssh/config along with authentication keys I've regularly used before. Now, when I try to connect to a remote machine using Emacs, Emacs asks for my password and uses the wrong username. Clearly, Emacs doesn't access my config file. When I try to ssh or scp directly to the machine, things work fine. What do I need to update?

• Shared printer can't be added

  We have a small training network with server 2003, and XP clients and users in a AD domain. A printer is connected to a client with USB. We are trying to share the printer to all the users but it's not working. We come so far as the users can see the printer when they search for it. But when they try to add it, there appears a pop up window for user name and password. No matter what user name we try it doesn't work. We have checked the shared printer's security settings and they are all in order. Everyone has printer rights. But even with full rights it doesn't work. The only ones it works for are Domain Admins. Anyone have any ideas?

• Large OSX 10.6 to Windows 7 smb transfers fail?

  I'm connecting to a windows 7 box from a OSX 10.6 box via smb: smb://ftp1 Connection works fine, I can transfer individual files one at a time, but as soon as I try and move an entier folder I get the following error: The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “test” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36) This error happens on all our OSX boxes when trying to push the entier folder to the Win7 box. The folder TEST in the above error message has -R 777 permissions. I can move every image file to the windows box one by one with no errors. But if I try an move the entier folder. bam error out. This error seems to kill the smb client on the Windows box as well. There's an FTP server on the windows box and I can FTP in from the OSX box and move everything just fine. Not sure what is going on here?

• messed System Files on Mac PPC

  My buddy deleted her System folder from her PPC Mac wanting to get that space for something else. She copied it first in another drive (she had partitioned disk).She haven't emptied the Trash Bin yet. The screen just froze right after she moved the folder to Trash. We tried to use the install disk but even if we try Power-C on booting,it would try to continue,display the apple logo page then quickly follow it with black screen filled with dumps of hex codes and "We are hanging here..." We have a Windows-based PC that we tried to connect using ethernet cable but we can't find her computer from there. What should we do now???

• Isn't localhost simply 127.0.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)?

  I tried telnet localhost on Mac OS X Lion, and this is the output I got. Trying ::1... telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused Trying fe80::1%lo0... telnet: connect to address fe80::1%lo0: Connection refused telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused It tries three different addresses. I would have expected it to only try 127.0.0.1, or at least to try it first. What are these other addresses?

• iTunes Update 11.0 will not install on my Macbook

  I try to update my iTunes to version 11 but every time I open iTunes after the restart it shows me an error message that states, "An Unknown Error Occurred (-42408)". The same thing happens when I try to install it using the stand alone installer from the apple website. iTunes still opens but remains as version 10.7 (21) and dosent update. I have tried this numerous times and I keep getting the same results. I have also looked all over online but none of them give me a solution that works. My system is a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2) Thanks.

• New Kingson SSD drive fails after 1 week

  I upgraded the hard disk in my notebook to a 128GB Kingston SSD V100. Everything worked fine for about a week then out of the blue the notebook would not boot up any more. A black dos-like screen was shown with the options to try and boot normally or attempt to repair windows. Neither option would do anything. When I removed the drive and tested it in an external usb case no other computers are able to access the drive either. Is there anything I can try to fix it myself? The drive is partitioned into three drives and when it's connected through an external usb case to another computer I can see the partitions, just can't access anything on them. Does this mean the drive might be recoverable?

I put my win 8's partition to 11 GB (almost), but now when I try to uninstall the win 8 it dont allow me to uninstall it saying no enough space. What to do ?? Is it possible For example: www.nottrusted.com calls my Restful Api Apache identifies the request is coming from a non-authorized site Apache blocks the caller and returns a 401 Is this possible? Is it easy for someone one spoof the domain? If a request comes from server side code of nottrusted.com will Apache catch the request? Thanks

  I have problem, i cant figure out, how to fix.. So i am on MacOSX machine, running php 5.3.15 version, using mongo 1.3.1 version. When i try to execute php script, in which i try to connect to remote mongodb server, I get segmentation fault(11)..   i have installed 2 windows 7 3 windows server 2008 I am trying to sign in with the second windows 7 machine as a user but i can not. What is the solution ? Thank you ! I use Vmplayer. With the second macine (windows 7) i try to log in with one of the user name example:JOwens after hit enter i get user name or password not correct. I try with other user name i have 25 and the same . I could sing in only with one of them. I joied to the Domain. I can not sign in with the users.
