  Hi all, In one of my latest projects I use Solr 1.4 for searching products.However I have ran into a slight problem, which I aint sure if its possible to do using Solr. All products are indexed by "country" and "category" and the "id", "class" and "description" are stored values. I now have been requested to extract a sample list of products that we have for a give "category" and "ONLY RETURNING ONE" product for each country where the product is available. In my current implementation, I have a dismax query to get a list of all the countries that correspond to the catergory, then I call again solr to extract all products for each country, limiting the no. rows by the size of the countries found in the previous query. The problem I have with this current implementation is I can not be certain that I have one product for each country in the list. Therefore would anyone know if it possible to tell solr that you want only one product per country provided in the query? Any guidance would be useful.

  Hi, Is there any way to check step by step what's going on in let's say template? I mean how it is instantiated step by step and so on? In book I've mentioned here , I found (2 minutes ago) quite interesting example of how binary could be implemented as a metafunction. template <unsigned long N> struct binary { static unsigned const value = binary<N/10>::value << 1 // prepend higher bits | N%10; // to lowest bit }; template <> // specialization struct binary<0> // terminates recursion { static unsigned const value = 0; }; and I think it could be quite useful to be able to see step by step what's been done during the instantiation of this template. • Can the template parameters of a constructor be explicitly specified?

  A constructor of a class can be a template function. At the point where such a constructor is called, the compiler usually looks at the arguments given to the constructor and determines the used template parameters from them. Is there also some syntax to specify the template parameters explicitly? A contrived example: struct A { template<typename T> A() {} }; Is there a way to instantiate this class? What is the syntax to explicitly specify the constructor's template parameters? My use case would be a problem were the compiler doesn't seem to find the correct templated constructor. Explicitly specifying the template parameters would probably generate more useful error messages or even resolve the problem.

• How do you send an array as part of an (jquery) ajax request

  I tried to send an array as part of an ajax request like this: var query = []; // in between I add some values to 'query' $.ajax({ url: "MyServlet", data: query, dataType: "json", success: function(noOfResults) { alert(noOfResults); } }); } I wanted to see what I get back in the servlet, so I used this line: System.out.println(request.getParameterMap().toString()); Which returned {} suggesting an empty map. Firebug tells me I am getting a 400 bad request error If I send a queryString like attribute=value as the 'data' then everything works fine, so it has to do with not being able to send an array as is. What do I have to do to get that data into the servlet for further processing. I don't want to pull it out and turn it into a queryString in the JS if I can avoid it. EDIT: I used the .serializeArray() (jQuery) function before sending the data. I don't get the 400 but nothing useful is being sent through.

  Hello, Can I pass some Javascript to a function and then execute that Javascript from within the function, e.g. test("a = 1; b = 2; test2(a,b);"); function test(js) { // execute dynamically generated JS here. } Basically I have some code that is generated on the server and I want to pass that code to a JS function which when it has finished processing it executes the code passed as a parameter. This could also be useful for the parameter of setTimeout, then the code passed could be executed in the timeout event. Can this be done?

• Refactoring FAT client legacy application

  I am working on a fat client legacy C++ application which has a lot of business logic mixed in with the presentation side of things. I want to clean things out and refactor the code out completely, so there is a clear seperation of concerns. I am looking at MVC or some other suitable design pattern in order to achieve this. I would like to get recommendations from people who have walked this road before - Do I use MVP or MVC (or another pattern)? What is/are the best practices for undertaking something like this (i.e. useful steps/checks) ?

• Getting information about where c++ exceptions are thrown inside of catch block?

  I've got a c++ app that wraps large parts of code in try blocks. When I catch exceptions I can return the user to a stable state, which is nice. But I'm not longer receiving crash dumps. I'd really like to figure out where in the code the exception is taking place, so I can log it and fix it. Being able to get a dump without halting the application would be ideal, but I'm not sure that's possible. Is there some way I can figure out where the exception was thrown from within the catch block? If it's useful, I'm using native msvc++ on windows xp and higher. My plan is to simply log the crashes to a file on the various users' machines, and then upload the crashlogs once they get to a certain size.

The information should have EXACTLY five tables, it's a hint we were given. The tables listed are the definite table names. We were told to make assumptions based on this information: Customer Invoice is generated from customer orders (Order & Order/Product entities) Supplier Order is generated for products that are low in stock (Product entity) Assumptions A customer can place many orders but an order is placed by only one customer An order can be for many products and a product can be ordered many times A product is supplied by only one supplier, a supplier may supply many products This is one of my modules in university and my lecturer is all but useful, I'm really struggling so any help is really appreciated.

• Dates search in Drupal (greater than, less than) using CCK / views / facelet?

  I'm working in a site that manage events (like parties). Each event could have several fields, including date, that the user could add thanks to CCK module. Now, the problem is when I have to search using those fields. I could not find how to search for events between a range of dates. I discover the facelet module, which is pretty good, and it is very useful for some kind of search, but as far as I can see it is not possible search in a range. Also I do some testing using views, but again, with no results. I can not find how to search a date "greater than" and "less than". I will really appreciate any help.

• How do you use the C language to produce a ruby gem?

  I would like to see some source code or maybe a link to some that gives at least a stub for writing ruby gems in the C languages (C++?? is that possible too?) Also, some of you may know that Facebook compiles some of their code natively as php extensions for better performance. Is anyone doing this in Rails? If so, what has been your experience with it? • Any suggestions in a way to parse headers and links from blog pages using C#?

  I'm currently self-studying C# in my free time and thought of a "little" project to get me going (and one that I or others will actually find useful). It ended up being more complicated than I thought. Or maybe I'm just thinking it is? Anyway, this project would parse the homepages of the blogs (most of them are Wordpress blogs) I frequent to, take the post headers and the links within those posts and notify me via a balloon tip in the task bar. I can handle the rest except for the way of getting C# to parse the HTML pages for the items I need. C# doesn't seem to have no built-in way to do this. Could anyone point me to the right direction? I just looked into the HTML Agility Pack but I'm still trying to figure it out. Some example code will help much too. Thanks in advance!

• What is the point of Convert.ToDateTime(bool)?

  I was doing some type conversion routines last night for a system I am working on. One of the conversions involves turning string values into their DateTime equivalents. While doing this, I noticed that the Convert.ToDateTime() method had an overload which accepted a boolean parameter. First question? Under what circumstances could this ever be useful? I went a little further and tried to execute the method in QuickWatch. Either way ( true or false ), the routine returns an InvalidCastException. Second question? Why is this method even here?

  My data consists of objects as follows. Obj1 - Color - shape - size - price - ranking So I want to be able to predict what combination of color/shape/size/price is a good combination to get high ranking. Or even a combination could work like for eg: in order to get good ranking, the alg predicts best performance for this color and this shape. Something like that. What are the advisable algorithms for such a prediction? Also may be if you can briefly explain how I can approach towards the model building I would really appreciate it. Say for eg: my data looks like Blue pentagon small $50.00 #5 Red Squre large $30.00 #3 So what is a useful prediction model that I should look at? What algorithm should I try to predict like say highest weightage is for price followed by color and then size. What if I wanted to predict in combinations like a Red small shape is less likely to higher rank compared to pink small shape . (In essence trying to combine more than one nominal values column to make the prediction)

• About the leading newline in Visual Studio solution files.

  Sometimes, for unknown reasons, VS 2008 creates solution files led by a newline. Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 10.00 # Visual Studio 2008 [...] This happened on various machines, and I have no idea why this is. A Google search did not yield any useful results. Now, why do I worry about this? Because I can't open these solutions in Windows Explorer. I have to open VS, select File - Open - Solution and it works fine. But to open solutions from within Explorer, I have to edit the sln file and remove the leading newline. Edit: After Leom's suggestion I tested a few times and found that the issue is solely dependent on the leading newline.

• CouchDB: How to change view function via javascript?

  Hello Guys, I am playing around with CouchDB to test if it is "possible" [1] to store scientific data (simulated and experimental raw data + metadata). A big pro is the schema-less approach of CouchDB: we have to be very flexible with the metadata, as the set of parameters changes very often. Up to now I have some code to feed raw data, plots (both as attachments), and hierarchical metadata (as JSON) into CouchDB documents, and have written some prototype Javascript for filtering and showing. But the filtering is done on the client side (a.k.a. browser): The map function simply returns everything. How could I change the (or push a second) map function of a specific _design-document with simple browser-JS? I do not think that a temporary view would yield any performance gain... • Django: Converting an entire Model into a single dictionary

  Is there a good way in Django to convert an entire model to a dictionary? I mean, like this: class DictModel(models.Model): key = models.CharField(20) value = models.CharField(200) DictModel.objects.all().to_dict() ... with the result being a dictionary with the key/value pairs made up of records in the Model?   Do critical sections inside trivial int accessors actually do anything useful? int GetFoo() { CriticalSection(crit_id); return foo; } void SetFoo(int value) { CriticalSection(crit_id); foo = value; } Is it possible for two threads to be attempting to read and write foo simultaneously? I'd have thought 'no' unless integers are written byte-at-a-time, in which case I can see the use. But I'd have though modern cpus would read/write integers in a single atomic action...

• Parse items from text file

  I have a text file that includes data inside {[]} tags. What would be the suggested way to parse that data so I can just use the data inside the tags? Example text file would look like this: 'this is a bunch of text that is not {[really]} useful in any {[way]}. I need to {[get]} some items {[from]} it.' I would like to end up with 'really', 'way', 'get', 'from' in a list. I guess I could use split to do it.. but seems like there might be a better way out there. I have seen a ton parsing libraries, is there one that would be perfect for what I want to do?

• What is the purpose of AnyVal?

  I can't think of any situation where the type AnyVal would be useful, especially with the addition of the Numeric type for abstracting over Int, Long, etc. Are there any actual use cases for AnyVal, or is it just an artifact that makes the type hierarchy a bit prettier? Just to clarify, I know what AnyVal is, I just can't think of any time that I would actually need it in Scala. When would I ever need a type that encompassed Int, Character and Double? It seems like it's just there to make the type hierarchy prettier (i.e. it looks nicer to have AnyVal and AnyRef as siblings rather than having Int, Character, etc. inherit directly from Any).

• C# directory to "play with"

  Simple question here. I have a C# program which needs to stores some files onto the hard drive, but I don't need them to be anywhere useful to the end-user, only somewhere that the program can read/write from. Is there a directory that I can reference programmatically to be my "filespace playground" - that is, that I can read/write freely to and from? EDIT: Also, if I use a temp directory, how long are the files guaranteed to be there? I don't want the them to disappear while my program is still running!

Can we find it through some query like objList.filter('id=2'); wihout looping through the list? If not, then why? This can be so useful method and used as an alternative to write tedious for loop?   I'm using the PHP markdown library: http://michelf.com/projects/php-markdown/ and the Javascript markdown library: http://attacklab.net/showdown/ I want to disallow all HTML, both the versions of markdown seem to allow it indiscriminately. My first attempt was simply to escape all html entities before feeding into markdown. However this also escapes the <hyperlink> and <email> syntax, which is very useful. I'd like to escape all HTML (not remove) but preserve all markdown syntax.
