  I have a System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary<System.Web.UI.Control, object> where all keys can be either type of System.Web.UI.WebControls.HyperLink or type of System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label. I want to change Text property of each control. Because HyperLink doesn't implement (why??) ITextControl, I need to cast Label or HyperLink explicitly: Dictionary<Control,object> dic = .. dic .Where(p => p.Key is HyperLink) .ForEach(c => ((HyperLink)c).Text = "something") dic .Where(p => p.Key is Label) .ForEach(c => ((Label)c).Text = "something") Are there ways to workaround such approach?

• Get next key-value pair in an object

  So, given a key, I want to find the next property in an object. Then, I want to return the value of the NEXT property. I can not rely on the keys to be ordered or sequential (they're uuids). Please see below for trivial example of what I want: var db ={ a: 1, b: 2, c: 3 } var next = function(db, key) { // ??? } next(db, 'a'); // I want 2 next(db, 'b'); // I want 3 I also want a prev() function, but I'm sure it will be the same solution. This seems like such a trivial problem but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Happy for the solution to use underscore.js or be written in coffeescript :)

• how does selenium webdriver upload files to the browser?

  I am a javascript/java developer and I have been trying to figure out how the selenium webdriver automation framework uploads files from the file system. It is impossible to set a file input via javascript because it is a security violation. Yet somehow webdriver is able to do this with the following command: driver.setFileDetector(new LocalFileDetector()); WebElement upload = driver.findElement(By.id("myfile")); upload.sendKeys("/Users/sso/the/local/path/to/darkbulb.jpg"); driver.findElement(By.id("submit")).click(); So they are setting the value by sending keys to it? I don't get it. I have looked through the source code found here: http://code.google.com/p/selenium/source/checkout I am still not able to find where they do this. Edit: My question is not how to do this with selenium, but how did the selenium developers make this possible? How did they get around the security restrictions in javascript? How are they uploading the file?

  I have a MYSQL table that looks as follows: id id_jugador id_partido team1 team2 1 2 1 5 2 2 2 2 1 1 3 1 2 0 0 I need to create a query to either INSERT new rows in the table or UPDATE the table. The condition is based on id_jugador and id_partido, meaning that if I wanted to insert id_jugador = 2 and id_partido = 1, then it should just UPDATE the existing row with the new team1 and team2 values I am sending. And dont duplicate the row. However, if I have an entry id_jugador=2 and id_partido=3, since this combination does not exist yet, it should add the new row. I read about the REPLACE INTO but it seems to be unable to check combination of UNIQUE KEYS.

• Why does set key not do anything in AES/SymmetricAlgorithm?

  This MESSED ME UP hard. I thought i was setting the key but i was not. No exceptions, nothing happen except bad results. Why is there a setter if everything is ignored and no exceptions are thrown when i attempt to write? What is the point of the setter on the Keys property? When i do the below Key value are not changed. After an hour when i realize what was happening i wrote the loop to verify. I also tried aes.Key[0] = val; var b = val == aes.Key[0]; (and messed with it in immediate mode). Why does it have this behavior? • Multiple row insertion in a faster way

  Hi, I am using rails and I am trying to insert new rows into the table. The data comes from a text file and I created hash with one of the attribute as key. Then I find all the keys that are currently not in the table. Then I need to insert all of them into the table with all the attributes that I saved in hash. newvals.each{ |x| author = Author.create(:first => x, :second => hash[x][0], :third => hash[x][1]) author.save } This has lot of overhead as it makes an SQL update one at time. The newals array is usually quite big around the size of 20-30k. I know create can insert multiple objects at once, but I cant seem to figure out how. Is there any way to get this done. Thanks.

ALTER TABLE variation AUTO_INCREMENT = 10; But I want to do this; ALTER TABLE variation AUTO_INCREMENT = (SELECT MAX(id)+1 FROM old_db.varaition); but that doesnt work, and neither does; SELECT MAX(id)+1 INTO @old_auto_inc FROM old_db.variation ALTER TABLE variation AUTO_INCREMENT = @old_auto_inc; So does anyone know how to do this? ( I'm trying to ensure that AUTO_INCREMENT keys dont collide between an old and a new site and need to do this automatically. So I can just run a script when the new db goes live )

  I've been trying to estimate the size of an Access table with a certain number of records. It has 4 Longs (4 bytes each), and a Currency (8 bytes). In theory: 1 Record = 24 bytes, 500,000 = ~11.5MB However, the accdb file (even after compacting) increases by almost 30MB (~61 bytes per record). A few extra bytes for padding wouldn't be so bad, but 2.5X seems a bit excessive - even for Microsoft bloat. What's with the discrepancy? The four longs are compound keys, would that matter?

• Poll for pressed buttons in Java

  I have a WorldWind application build based on the Java SDK. It has a great event handler for detecting when you click on objects, but I've run into a snag. While I can click on and select individual objects, I can't determine if the user is pressing the control key while they click (if they want to select multiple objects). I can implement event handlers for both the mouse and the keyboard, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to tie the two together. How could I make my mouse listener poll the system for a list of currently depressed keys?

  I have a table that has attributes based on a key-value. Example: CREATE TABLE ObjectAttributes ( int objectId, key nvarchar(64), value nvarchar(512) ) When I select from this I get: objectId key value ---------------------------- 1 Key 1 Value 1 1 Key 2 Value 2 I was wondering if I could use the PIVOT syntax to turn this into: objectId Key 1 Key 2 --------------------------- 1 Value 1 Value 2 I know all of my tables will have the same keys. (Unfortunately I cannot easily change the table structure. This is what is leading me to attempt using PIVOTS). The big issue here though is that pivots require an aggression function to be used. Is there a way to avert this? Am I completely wrong attempting this? Or is there a better solution?

• Prevent keypress whilst shift key is held

  I'm trying to prevent certain keys from being entered into an input box, but only if that particular key is pressed whilst the shift key is held: $('selector').keydown(function(e) { console.log(e.shiftKey); if (e.shiftKey && e.which == 51) { e.preventDefault(); alert('Disallowed'); } }); The alert fires but the character still appears in the text box. If I remove e.shiftKey from the if statement and press the key (without shift held), the alert fires and the character does not appear in the text box. I've tried searching around for an explanation as to why this happens but to no avail, any help would be greatly appreciated! edit Removing the alert seems to fix the problem (which seems bizarre), I'd really love to know why it behaves in this way though, it doesn't seem to make any sense. • C#: Resource file refactoring

  Does anyone know of a good tool for refactoring resources in a visual studio 2008 solution? We have a number of resource files with translated text in an assembly used for localizing our application. But they have gotten a bit messy... I would like to rename some of the keys, and move some of them into other resource files. And I would like those changes be done in my code, and the translated versions of the resource files as well. Maybe a some analysis on what strings are missing in the translated versions, and what strings have been removed from the original as well... Does anyone know of a good visual studio extension or ReSharper plugin that can help me with this? Right now it is kind of a pain, because I have to first rename the key in the base resource file, then in the localized versions. And then compile to get all the compile errors resulting from the key which now have a different name, and then go through and fix them all... very annoying =/

• Sort a DataGridView by DisplayMember

  Hi, I have a DataGridView that is bound to a DataTable. In this table there are some foreign keys. I am then using the CellFormatting event to get the corresponding text from another database table for each foreign key. I want to sort the DataGridView when the user clicks the header. Automatic sorting works but is not correct as it is Sorting on the ValueMember (ForeignKey ID) and not on the DisplayMember (the text). I tried using the SortCompare event but then I read that it does not work on DataGridViews that use the DataSource property. How can this be done? Thanks

Is there a definitive list of characters I should avoid? my current list is il10o8B3Evu![]{} Are there any other pairs of characters that are easy to confuse? for special characters I was going to limit myself to those under the number keys, though I know that this differs depending on your keyboards nationality! • Left Join only returning one row

  I am trying to join two tables. I would like all the columns from the product_category table (there are a total of 6 now) and count the number of products, CatCount, that are in each category from the products_has_product_category table.   Hi everyone, I'm doing a theatrical performance, and I need a program that can read images from a folder and display them full screen on one of the computer's VGA outputs, in a predetermined order. All it needs to do is start with the first image, and when a key is pressed (space bar, right arrow), smoothly cross-fade to the next image. Sounds just like power-point right? The only reason why I can use power-point/open-office is because the "fade smoothly" transition isn't smooth enough, or configurable enough. It tends to be fast and choppy, where I would like to see a perfectly smooth fade over, say, 30 seconds. So the question is what is the best (cheap and fast) way to accomplish this? Is there a program that already does this well (for cheap or free)? OR should I try to hack at open-office's transition code? Or would it be easier to create this from scratch? Are there frameworks that might make it easier? I have web programming experience (php), but not desktop or real-time rendering. Any suggestions are appreciated!

  Is there anything built into the C++ Standard Library that allows me to work in a priority queue/heap like data structure (i.e., can always pop the highest value from the list, can define how the highest value is determined for custom classes, etc.) but allows me to update the keys in the heap? I'm dealing with fairly simple data, pairs to be exact, but I need to be able to update the value of a given key within the heap easily for my algorithm to function. WHat is the best way to achieve this in C++?

  Hello. What I'm trying to do: have pretty URLs in the format 'http://domain.tld/one/two/three', that get handled by a PHP script (index.php) by looking at the REQUEST_URI server variable. In my example, the REQUEST_URI would be '/one/two/three'. (Btw., is this a good idea in general?) I'm using Apache's mod_rewrite to achieve that. Here's the RewriteRule I use in my .htaccess: RewriteRule ^/?([a-zA-Z/]+)/?$ /index.php [NC,L] This works really well thus far; it forwards every REQUEST_URI that consists of a-z, A-Z or a '/' to /index.php, where it is processed. Only drawback: '?' (question marks) and '#' (hash keys) seem to still be allowed in the REQUEST_URI, maybe even more characters that I've yet to find. Is it possible to restrict those via my .htaccess and an adequate addition to the RewriteRule? Thanks!

  Hello, I am trying to figure out the SQL for doing some relatively simple operations on sets of records in a table but I am stuck. Consider a table with multiple rows per item, all identified by a common key. For example: serial model color XX1 A blue XX2 A blue XX3 A green XX5 B red XX6 B blue XX1 B blue What I would for example want to do is: Assuming that all model A rows must have the same color, find the rows which dont. (for example, XX3 is green). Assuming that a given serial number can only point to a single type of model, find out the rows which that does not occur (for example XX1 points both to A and B) These are all simple logically things to do. To abstract it, I want to know how to group things by using a single key (or combination of keys) and then compare the values of those records. Should I use a join on the same table? should i use some sort of array or similar? thanks for your help

• Delphi Volume control by keyboard

  Hi All, I recently had to replace a keyboard and this one ( GE 98552 ) does not have programmable buttons along the top and I miss the up/down volume buttons. it has 9 special buttons but none for volume and this model is not programmable. DUH! I am a long-time Delphi programmer but never messed with the multimedia stuff. Can anyone suggest some code to assign to say the "+" and "-" keys on the numeric pad that will change the volume up and down? I never use those two buttons so I would not be giving up functionality.   I am trying to create a collection_select that is dependent on another collection_select, following the railscasts episode #88.. The database includes a schedule of all cruise ships arrival dates. See attached schema diagram,... (The arrow side of the lines indicate has_many, the non-pointy side indicates belongs_to) In the "booking/new" view I have a collection_select for choosing a cruiseline, then another collection_select will appear for selecting a ship, then another for selecting the date that ship is in. If I ONLY put a collection_select for shipshedule it works fine(because of the direct association with the bookings model). However, if I try to add a collection_select for cruiselines....it breaks(Im assuming because their isnt a direct association). The collection_select for cruiselines returns an undefined method error for "cruiseline_id".....if I simply use "id" the collection_select works, but of course isnt fully functional due to incorrect naming of the form field. I have tried "has_many :shipschedules, :through = :cruiseships" in the cruiseline model and "has_many :bookings, :through = :shipschedules" in the cruiseships model... As you can see in the diagram, I need to access the cruiseships and cruiselines model through the bookings model. I have the models set up so a cruiseline has_many cruiseships, a cruiseship has_many shipschedules, and a shipschedule has_many bookings. But, the bookings model cant directly access the cruiseline model. How do I accomplish this?
