  • looking for a javascript engine

    i'm looking for a js engine to that I can (easily) expose C/C++ functions, classes etc. The API should allow changing exposed values from within C++ (by storing some kind of pointer or reference to an object inside js or so...). I've considered using google's v8 but I'm new to it and don't know whether it will satisfy my requirements. Can someone tell me whether I should stick to v8 or try something else?

  • Javascript Anonymous Functions and Global Variables

    I thought I would try and be clever and create a Wait function of my own (I realise there are other ways to do this). So I wrote: var interval_id; var countdowntimer = 0; function Wait(wait_interval) { countdowntimer = wait_interval; interval_id = setInterval(function() { --countdowntimer <=0 ? clearInterval(interval_id) : null; }, 1000); do {} while (countdowntimer >= 0); } // Wait a bit: 5 secs Wait(5); This all works, except for the infinite looping. Upon inspection, if I take the While loop out, the anonymous function is entered 5 times, as expected. So clearly the global variable countdowntimer is decremented. However, if I check the value of countdowntimer, in the While loop, it never goes down. This is despite the fact that the anonymous function is being called whilst in the While loop! Clearly, somehow, there are two values of countdowntimer floating around, but why?

Right now I have a function that finds all links to PDF files (i.e. the href ends with '.pdf') and appends the string '[pdf]' to the innerText.   • Firing a Keyboard Event at the Body - JavaScript (?)

    I've done a lot of research on this but have come up empty handed. What I would like to do is invoke or create an event for the right arrow key (Key Code 39). I was planning on using an onclick event inside an tag to go to a function where this event could be 'fired'. Any help would be appreciated. If anyone needs context, I have a jQuery content slider that's functionality is very hard to alter and currently the functionality I need to emulate only occurs when a user hits the right arrow on their keyboard. What I would like to do is tie an onclick() event to a image that when clicked on fires the right keyboard event and the content will slide.   • Check through Javascript that page is loading something

    When the browser is loading something on a page you can see it in the status bar that it says "Waiting for..." or "Transfering..." etc. In firebug you can check in the net tab when something is being loaded and see when it stops. That is what I want. Is there a way for me to trigger an event when that happens ? Or to get the status of the page or something ? Any way for me to know when that changes ? I know I can do this easier if I use Ajax, but I can't since the page it's expecting an Excel report. Thanks

I've read that doing a lot of DOM manipulations can be dangerous, but the for loops a max of 286 times (# of verses in surah 2, the longest surah in the Qur'an).

  • Escaping and unescaping a string with single and double quotes in Javascript

    I have a search box that a user can search for any string including single AND double quotes, once they have searched, the backend is passing the keyword back to me so I can put it back in the box. I don't know what the string is so I can't escape quotes myself, below is an example: var keyword = "hello"; $("#selectionkeywords").val(); The issue I am having is that if the user enters "hello" the keyword becomes ""hello"" and I get this error: missing ) after argument list [Break On This Error] jQuery("#selectionkeywords").val(""hello""); The user could also enter single quotes so that rules it out as well. I tried using escape unescape but I still have the same issue e.g. escape(""hello"") I could get the value in an unescaped format e.g. "hello" but I don't know what to do with it, escape doesn't work on it I end up with this %26%23034%3Bhello%26%23034%3B So I'm pretty much stuck at the moment as I can't do anything to the string, any ideas?
