  I have an ItemsControl with the following ItemTemplate: <DataTemplate x:Key="myItemTemplate"> <TextBlock Height="???" Text="{Binding Path=Description}" /> </DataTemplate> My question is, how do I set the Height of the TextBlock in the template so that it automatically assumes ItemsControl.Height div ItemsCount amount of vertical space? When there's only one item, I'd like it to be the full height of container, when there're two, each should be half the size, and so on. If possible, I'd prefer to do this completely in XAML to keep my ViewModel clean of UI logic.

• Flex - prevent dragging for certain items

  Hi troops, how would you prevent dragging for some items of your List or DataGrid? Let's say I had a list with two items: 'Tom' and 'Jerry'. Only 'Tom' should be dragable, not 'Jerry'. Ideally I had a 'isDragEnabled(item:Object):Boolean' function, which is being queried by the drag source. My difficulties start with the fact that the 'dragStart' event handler has a null value for the dragSource, so right from the start I find it hard to find out what the drag-start is about.. Thanks in advance! PS There have been a few discussions on preventing or canceling a drop, but I haven't seen much about preventing the drag start, hence this question.

• Smart pointers and polymorphism

  hello. I implemented reference counting pointers (called SP in the example) and im having problems with polymorphism which i think i shouldn't have. In the following code: SP<BaseClass> foo() { // Some logic... SP<DerivedClass> retPtr = new DerivedClass(); return retPtr; } DerivedClass inherits from BaseClass. With normal pointers this should have worked, but with the smart pointers it says "cannot convert from 'SP<T>' to 'const SP<T>&" and i think it refers to the copy constructor of the smart pointer. How to i allow this kind of polymorphism with reference counting pointer? I'd appreciate code samples cause obviously im doing something wrong here if im having this problem. Thanks! :) [p.s., plz don't tell me to use standart liberary with smart pointers cuz that's impossible at this moment.]

• Question about spring transaction propagation

  Hi guys, I have a question about spring transaction propagation. If I use @Transactional(propagation = Propagation.REQUIRED) to annotate a method m1. When execution logic enter m1, if there is already a transaction, m1 will use that one. When after m1, what about the transaction? It ends or still open?(if I call m1 in another method, and after the invocation there is still other things to do). In summary, I want to know when exiting an annotated method, the transaction ends or still open? Great thanks.

• What to name a method

  I'm debating what to name this method. CloseCashTransaction(Cash.Id, -1, true); or CompleteCyberCashTransaction(Cash.Id, -1, true); or neither are good? In business terms/process by sending in these 3 values I'm essentially "closing the transaction" or "completing the transaction" in our workflow. However on the developer side, I cant' infer wtf "Complete" or "Close" means. It forces me to look into the internals of the method. My struggle is that I try to name methods to infer what they are doing. Complete is just way too general and forces the consumer of the method to dive into the code every time I use words like this. When I see stuff like this all over code, I have to take so much time to figure out what they are actually doing. And if the comments suck, I end up having to look at all logic in that method because the comments nor the method name really infer what's going on.

Recently, however, I realized that the classical SQL construct select X from Y where Z is basically equivalent to the following OOP construct: List<SomeType> results = db.query(new Matcher<SomeType> () { public boolean match(SomeType candidate) { return ...; // checks condition Z on candidate, returns true for match } }; So my question is: What are the OOP equivalents for other SQL constructs, such as joins?

• JBoss Seam: components injected into POJOs, but not Session Beans

  I have a Seam component that handles login, with the name "authenticator": @Name("authenticator") public class AuthenticatorAction implements Authenticator { @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; @In(required=false) @Out(required=false, scope = SESSION) private User user; public boolean authenticate(){ ... } } This works just fine, Seam injects the EntityManager instance. However, as soon as I add the @Stateless annotation, none of the injection happens! In this case, the EntityManager instance is null upon entry to the authenticate() method. Another interesting note is that with a separate stateful session bean I have, the Logger instance in that class is only injected if I make it static. If i have it non-static, it is not injected. Thats fine for the logger, but for stateless session beans like that, I obviously can't have static member variables for these components. I'm confused because this authenticator is exactly how it is in the Seam booking example: a stateless session bean with a private member variable being injected. Any ideas?

  I currently have implemented an overlayitem that shows an icon for geopoint on a map application in Android. When the icon is clicked, it brings up an AlertDialog from the onTap method below. I have the following questions: Does anyone know how to display a map message bubble directly above the icon overlayitem with 2 callout buttons one to the left of the title and one to the right of the bubble? Does anyone know how to make the overlayitem draggable so I can press and hold it and drag it across the map. I am trying to duplicate the draggable icon behavior that's available on the iPhone. If so, please share some sample code.   I am doing my first steps with TDD. The problem is (as probably with everyone starting with TDD), I never know very well what kind of unit tests to do when I start working in my projects. Let's assume I want to write a Stack class with the following methods(I choose it as it's an easy example): Stack<T> - Push(element : T) - Pop() : T - Seek() : T - Count : int - IsEmpty : boolean How would you approch this? I never understood if the idea is to test a few corner cases for each method of the Stack class or start by doing a few "use cases" with the class, like adding 10 elements and removing them. What is the idea? To make code that uses the Stack as close as possible to what I'll use in my real code? Or just make simple "add one element" unit tests where I test if IsEmpty and Count were changed by adding that element? How am I supposed to start with this?

For example, let's say I have the output of an awk statement with the following contents red green blue In this scenario, the output can change at any time. I'm trying to then execute different logic if a value is included in this awk output.   I have the following in my migration file def self.up create_table :payment_agreements do |t| t.boolean :automatic, :default => true, :null => false t.string :payment_trigger_on_order t.references :supplier t.references :seller t.references :product t.timestamps end end I want to ensure that if a product_id is specified it is unique but I also want to allow null so I have the following in my model: validates :product_id, :uniqueness => true, :allow_nil => true Works great but I should then add an index to the migration file add_index :payment_agreements, :product_id, :unique => true Obviously this will throw an exception when two null values are inserted for product_id. I could just simply omit the index in the migration but then there's the chance that I'll get two PaymentAgreements with the same product_id as shown here: Concurrency and integrity My question is what is the best/most common way to deal with this problem

• Selecting a UserControl from XAML

  I'm working on a problem right now where I need to embed a UserControl inside another UserControl. But, I need to determine at runtime which embedded UserControl to instantiate. This implies to me that some form of data binding and/or template selection mechanism has to be invoked, but I'm not sure how to proceed with the pure XAML approach. If I was to do this with code, I would define some sort of container control in the parent UserControl, and then in the code-behind, implement some logic which would instantiate the appropriate child UserControl and then insert it as Content into the specified container in the parent UserControl. Can this be done using only XAML, or is some sort of code-behind required?

  I'm having difficulty to understand the logic behind the method to find the second highest number in array. The method used is to find the highest in the array but less than the previous highest (which has already been found). The thing that I still can't figure it out is why || highest_score == second_highest is necessary. For example I input three numbers: 98, 56, 3. Without it, both highest and second highest would be 98. I am talking about componentization, separation of concerns, rich graphics, states and effects . Please point out some tutorials and other resources if possible. P.S. I KNOW that this is technically possible, so please do not respond by sending google search results or general JQuery tutorials. I've seen those already. I need to know how a Flex / Silverlight developer could design and implement an application in roughly the same way (imagine a rich HTML tag set, much like XAML/MXML, behind which stands JavaScript responsible for handling events and business logic. • Problem with Qt::QueuedConnection, signal delivered after disconnect

  Hi, I just discovered interesting behavior of queued connection in Qt 4.6: First queued connection is made: connect(someSender, SIGNAL(completed()), this, SLOT(handleCompletion()), Qt::QueuedConnection) Then someSender sends the signal: emit completed() Before receiving signal (as it is in queue), I disconnect from the signal: disconnect(someSender, SIGNAL(completed()), this, SLOT(handleCompletion()) Still, handleCompletion slot is invoked at next eventloop iteration. I can prevent this from happening by using someSender-blockSignals(true) at correct point, but it feels awful not to mention having some boolean flag to disable slot's functionality. Especially, I feel amazed that this behavior is not mentioned in Qt documentation (at least I haven't found). Finally the question: any sensible way to avoid this from happening?

• EJB 3 Session Bean Design for Simple CRUD

  I am writing an application that's sole purpose in life is to do CRUD operations for maintaining records in database. There are relationships between some of the tables/entities. Most examples I've seen for creating session beans deals with complex business logic/operations that interact with many entities which I don't have. Since my application is so very basic, what would be the best design for the session bean(s)? I was thinking of having one session bean per entity which had CRUD the methods defined. Then I thought of combining all of those session beans into a single session bean. And then I found this blog entry which is intriguing, but I must admit I don't understand all of it (what is a ServiceFacade?). I'm leaning towards session bean/entity class, but would like to hear more experienced opinions. Thanks.

Currently, this is how my table looks: id | userID | field_1 | field_2 | field_3 | field_4 | etc... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | Each field represents one Sub Heading. Having this many columns in my table looks awfully inefficient... How can I go about optimizing this? I can't think of any way to neaten it up :/

When using picocontainers factory injection, you get the Type of the target passed in. In guice it is a bit trickier. But how do you accomplish this in Spring?

• Verbose Listing of All Application Layers/Tiers?

  I've looked at a few sites now, and I'm still struggling to find a complete listing of all the possible layers/tiers you can have in an application. From back in college (1999) I remember the following: Presentation Layer (Views) Application Layer (Controllers) Business Logic Layer (API/Rules) Persistence Layer (Database/Object Persistence/Model) I'm not advocating that they all be used...especially when you consider that too many layers/tiers could lead to an increase in complexity...I just wondered what the complete list might look like... Based on a couple of blogs I've found several different answers...and Javascript and client side technologies seem to have leaked in adding more client-side layers according to one blog the client side tier might even consist of Behavior Layer (Javascript, Flash) Presentation Layer (CSS/Images) Note: I though the entire client side layer was the presentation layer Structure Layer (XHTML, HTML) I'm just trying to get an abstract idea of what all the possible layers might be, (even though some people call them different things)
