• The way to the future - Hybrid systems

  I've written before (as have others) about the dangers of an "either/or" mentality with various technologies, including the "cloud". Companies are starting to understand this message - I've been traveling a lot this year from Alaska to California, from the UK to Copenhagen, Denmark, talking with companies that are implementing Hybrid systems, and giving presentations on how to implement one.   I got a hosting account at HOSTGATOR. it was a shared account and i had three websites present over there. now, i have upgraded my account to VPS at HOSTGATOR and i want to transfer only ONE website over the new VPS. say, mydom.net. this website includes wordpress installation and other custom pages and setup can somebody please guide me How can I transfer the web to my new account? with speed, accuracy, and such that my website remains in working condition.. what will I do about wordpress? simply copy it will work?(I dont thnk so), if not how can I move it?   hi. i just downloaded the netbook version of linux on my lenovo, and i must say it is awesome! more user friendly than the windows os. i have run into a problem with my side panel launcher- i cannot click on the icon to open up the application. it seems to be frozen. i need help to get this unfrozen. i was doing research on how to do so, a found a lot of answers about unity. what is it? and if i download unity will this solve the problem? thank you for your response. cheers.

• Why Does Unity lag Often That I have To Manually Shutdown/Restart my Core i3 Laptop?

  I did a fresh install of Ubuntu then do did some upgrades. After my next restart when I try to open Ubuntu Software Center it took about 20 seconds for the window to load then 10 more seconds before it became click able. While doing some installation of software, Unity lags like hell that every time I click any application it takes a few seconds before I can see it. Even GEdit take a lot of time to load. The worst part was when I was doing nothing to my computer. Even on that part, my computer lags. My Laptop is a Brand New Core i3 with 2GB of RAM. Unity should run perfectly on that kind of machine right? BTW: I reinstalled Ubuntu 11.04 for about 5 times now and still nothing changed.

  http://www.dartlang.org/ I've checked out the site very briefly, and got curious. Is there any advantages of using Dart? Is it just a replacement for javascript? It looks like simpler java. Writing quite a lot of C# at work, the language feels very much like what I'm used to, so learning the syntax looks like a breeze to learn. Has anybody any opinions or experiences with the language? (Compared to coffeescript (= I'm not doing ruby syntax) the syntax looks more familiar to me).

  I was just laid off and it was the standard process that is used in the US: call the person to talk to personnel, and remove access to the network while that is going on, then have someone help pack, always have someone with the person until they are escorted from the property. That is supposed to keep an unhappy developer from deleting or damaging software or data: to mimimize data loss. However, it still results in a lot of data loss, as all of the work the programmer was working on is dropped: software not checked in is possibly lost, documents not finished are lost, releases in process are slowed down or stopped, and a huge amount of knowledge could be lost. It seems the potential data loss is more than offset by the actual data loss. How can all losses, both potential and actual, be mimimized?

• Multiple network installs with cached downloads

  I tend to do lots of Ubuntu installs, and I'd like them to be up to date from the moment I do them, and not have to install a bazillion updates as soon as the install finishes. I'd also like to cache those packages somewhere on a machine on my LAN, so I don't re-download all the packages every time. How easy is this to achieve? Is there a guide somewhere to making this happen? Bonus points if I don't have to burn any CDs or use USB sticks! Edit: I have noticed a lot of guides for PXE booting and would be tempted to set this up but every time I find one they seem to be old/outdated and broken. My home server runs 10.04 LTS.

A lot of answers kept on popping up like to use box2d, libgdx, andEngine, etc. So the real question is, what would be the best to start off with as a beginner. I have some experience with java code, just by reading about in the Oracle Docs. I've gone through Flash and Eclipse. When i mean gone through, i don't mean i have actually created my own game from Flash or Eclipse, but i just learn things here and there. • Ubuntu 11.10 not showing up in GRUB bootloader after update and restart :(

  I was using ubuntu 11.10 with gnome-shell. I installed various useful softwares and ran system update using update manager which ran smoothly and asked me to restart my comp at the end. I restarted it to find that Ubuntu entries were missing from the GRUB bootloader and only memory test and windows are showing up. I took a lot of pain in installing various important softwares and cannot afford a re-installation. Tried to boot from the live cd and installed boot-repair and after running it .. it wasnt working properly .. it was just showing that it was "scanning systems" for more than an hour. Kindly help. I'm looking for a store to buy a suitable adaptor in locally and I can't find that particular adaptor - but I can see a Belkin F7D4101az. I think this is simply a newer model - but a Google search for "ubuntu belkin f7d4101az" brings no results - not even people trying to get it to work. Nothing. So I didn't want to purchase it without being sure. • Do I really need to remove special characters in a URL?

  I have an FTP account shared with friends where we upload underground music albums and then we use the links to share the downloads in a music forum. The problem is that the album names are in french so there is a lot of special characters in the name. So the URL looks like http://www.mydomain.com/downloads/Some Band - En français avec des caractères spéciaux (2013) [7'' EP].zip For me it works perfectly and I can download the file by using this URL, but I have read everywhere that special chars are bad in URL. Is there any reason why I must remove the special characters or encode the URL? Is everyone able to access a URL with special characters or will some older browsers not be able to download the files? I really don't care about SEO or anything else. I just want the download links to work for everyone. Since the files are uploaded through FTP, I can't use PHP to remove the special characters with a regex, so I really don't know what to do.

• Best way to develop a level from Top down image using 3dmax

  I have to create a game level from a top down view of an area. I used a plane converted to an editable poly to do the job. I used edges to create the top view of roads, walkways and parks so that i can extrude/edit them later. My problem is the curves in the road look blocky I tried appying mesh smooth modifier on the final model but that interfered with material mapping. Again i tried it on the plane without the extrusions and still the modifier does not work(The roads loose their shape). I know one way to solve the problem is to add more vertices on the curve and transform their location to create a more natural curve but i have a lot of curves so before doing it manually i need to know if there is a tool that refines the curves. Also i need to know if there is a better or proper way of doing the task.

I googled that topic and found a lot of good answers, but with all the solutions I have a little problem: I believe I can't properly give an address of shared folder. I can find it following way: "Network" - "Windows Network" - "WORKGROUP_name" - "Computer_name" - and there is some folder i would like to mount. How can I write the path to the folders in terminal? • Scale / Spread shows windows from all workspaces in 12.10

  I used Ubuntu Tweak to set up the lower left corner of my screen to activate scale/spread/show_windows/whatever_it's_called. When I upgraded to 12.10, it now shows all open windows from all work-spaces. It used to show only windows from the current workspace. However, when I use super-W to do the same thing, it only shows windows from the current workspace. What is going on here? This feature is one of the main reasons that I use Unity (along with Dash and HUD), and without it working properly my productivity is hurt a lot. Does anyone have a direction that I could look in to fix this?

This became so complicated trying to fit the schedule in that I scrapped it. Does anyone know know the best way to structure the tables for this and how to sort of make them communicate correctly?
