  I have a 3D Model like above in which i want to rotate it from a given location(pointed in red) but I can only rotate it from the middle. How can I rotate it from a custom point. Edit: I successfully able to rotate the model from the below position by getting the radius of the model and applying it to the world matrix Vector3 point = new Vector3(-radius, 0, 0); world = Matrix.CreateTranslation(-radius, 0, 0); But now I cannot change the position of the object and it always centered in middle of the screen. I think that's because i applied the above code. How can I place it anywhere I want?

My guessing is that this way of estimating costs is somewhat old (COCOMO dates of 1981), hence my question: How do you estimate costs in your software?   The company I work for maintains a successful SaaS product that grew "organically" over the years. We are planning to expand the line with a suite of new products that will share data with the existing product. To support this, we are looking to consolidate business logic into a single place: a web service layer. The WS layer will be used by: The web applications A tool to import data A tool to integrate with other client software (not an API per se) We also want to create an API that can be used by our customers that are capable of using it to create their own integrations. We are struggling with the following question: Should the internal API (aka the WS layer) and the external API be one in the same, with security and permission settings to control what can be done by who, or should they be two separate applications where the external API just calls the internal API like any other application? So far in our debate it seems that separating them may be more secure, but will add overhead. What have others done in a similar situation?

• Help with Kodak esp 3250 printer driver on Lubuntu 12.1 SOLVED!

  First my system: pentium 4 -don't remember the speed-, 1g ram, dual boot to separate physical drives, Fdos and Lubuntu 12.1 second my lan: I have four computers operating for the same printer. 1. Intel quad core i5, 4g ram, running Windoze 7 64 bit, printer connected and shared from here. Kodak ESP 3250 2. Gateway 17" laptop running Windoze 7 32bit 3. Asus tablet (small laptop) running Lumbutu 12.1 4. My dual boot system running Fdos and Lubuntu 12.1 The problem: I downloaded c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb, tried to install it using DEBI Package Installer, it loads the files, looks for cups driver and ends with an error: "Dependancy is not satisfiable: libcupsdriver1 (=1.4.0)" What do I do now? Is there some place that I can get the correct cups driver? further information: The Asus tablet was running Ubuntu 12.1 (very slowly and with a few crashes) and could print from the lan printer with no problems.   I was asked this question "How would you find weight of Aeroplane" in an interview and I am not sure why this question was one of the two question asked in the interview. I tried to answer it using all possible ways but could not give the correct answer.(found the correct answer after google search) How much such questions decide your selection in the interview? Here was my approach: 1. If measurement of plane is given then i will calculate volume and multiply by density, will consider fuel weight plus other dead weight. 2. Using water displacement method if i can put plane in water and somehow measure how much water is displaced. But found using google search that right approach was to put place on a ship and mark the level of water on the hull, then remove plane and then ship will go up. And start putting weight on the ship till marked hull reaches the water level.

  I think I heard on a previous StackOverflow podcast that COBOL was used as the programming language for traffic lights (or something like that), so this got me interested. I did a quick Google search and found this little article: Today, Cobol is everywhere, yet largely unheard of by millions of people who interact with it daily when using the ATM, stopping at traffic lights or buying a product online. The statistics on Cobol attest to its huge influence on the business world: There are over 220 billion lines of Cobol in existence, a figure which equates to about 80 per cent of the world’s actively used code. There over a million Cobol programmers in the world. There are 200 times as many Cobol transactions that take place each day than Google searches. I didn't really trust the source seeing as how it's on some random PHPBB forum. So how accurate are these figures? Are there really 220 billion lines of COBOL? I assume a few people/companies still use COBOL, but how many?

I am new to subversion (and programming) so I have been reading the official PDF documentations but still not sure about how to set-up my repository. I am working mainly with python, bash and rsl (Renderman Shading Language) So I already have a /dev structure on my disk as this: http://imageshack.us/f/708/devstructure.png/ And I have a /site structure that links to my /dev folder: http://imageshack.us/f/651/sitestructure.png/ So obviously starting to use SVN will change this approach that I already have in place. The question is when I am setting-up my SVN repository for the work I do in my /dev folder: Will I set-up a separate repository for each different programming platform? and Where exactly I should be placing my repository? • Why is using C++ libraries is so complicated?

  First of all, I want to note I love C++ and I'm one of those people who thinks it is easier to code in C++ than Java. Except for one tiny thing: libraries. In Java you can simply add some jar to the build path and you're done. In C++ you usually have to set multiple paths for the header files and the library itself. In some cases, you even have to use special build flags. I have mainly used Visual Studio, Code Blocks and no IDE at all. All 3 options do not differ much when talking about using external libraries. I wonder why was there made no simpler alternative for this? Like having a special .zip file that has everything you need in one place so the IDE can do all the work for you setting up the build flags. Is there any technical barrier for this?

• 2D shader to draw representation of rotating sphere.

  I want to display a 3D textured sphere, and then rotate it in one direction. The direction will never change, and the camera will never move. One way is to actually create a spherical mesh, map a texture to it, rotate the sphere, and render in 3D. My question is, is there a way to display a 2D circle, that looks like a rotating sphere, with just a 2D shader. In other words, can someone think of a trick, like mapping a texture to the circle in a particular way, to give the appearance of an in-place rotating sphere, that is always viewed from the side? I don't need exact shader code, I'm just looking for the right idea.

Background I am a contract developer and have just been asked to provide a general liability policy for my next gig. In 6-7 years this has never been asked of me. Question Is this common? If so, can anyone recommend a good underwriter that focuses on what we do as contract software developers? I realize that Google could help me find underwriters but it won't give me unbiased public opinion about which companies actually understand what we do and factor that into the price of the policy. • How can I get a list of installed programs and corresponding size of each in Ubuntu?

  I would like to have a list of the installed software on my machine, with the disk space consumed by them. A previous answer here says "you can do this via GUI in Synaptic". This doesn't mean anything to me. I don't know what GUI is, and when I click on Synaptic, I do not get anything like the display shown in the answer, i.e. with "Settings ? Preferences" and "Columns and Fonts". In Windows, you just select 'Programs and Applications' in the Control Panel, and the list comes up immediately, with sizes. Is there something similar and simple with Ubuntu? Could the size of each program be included on the list of installed software? This would be the most obvious place to put it.

• Best tool to recover removed files

  Using Ubuntu 10.10, I have a startup script that automatically removes my 'working directory'. This is a simple folder on my Desktop where I place a bunch of files that I use throughout the day. These are temporary files I need to store just for that one session. In order to keep things clean, my startup script does: rm -rf /home/user/Desktop/workdir mkdir /home/user/Desktop/workdir Works great. Till the moment I had some important files there and forgot to move them before shutting down. A few (2-3) sessions ago this happened and I now realize I need to recover the "workdir" directory. But several new ones have been created and removed in the meantime. What is the best way to recover this - if possible? I read about tools like scalpel but it seems they will scan my whole HD. I know the name of the folder and would like to just look for this workdir folder. What is best?

• Exchange with Evolution or any other mail client

  I see other questions about this, no answers and no one with a completely similar question. I work for a place with an Exchange 2007 server. There is an http://owa.ourserver.com that is accessible from anywhere. I've tried every combo I can think of for Evolution - Microsoft Exchange, including the MAPI plugin, but then I read that, that doesn't work on OWA Exchange email servers and I can't get it to connect at all that way. If there is no way to connect via Evolution, is there another mail client? I tried Thunderbird, but I couldn't get it to work with Exchange either...

  Its been noticed, one of our (new)competitor website is ranking 5 for a top keyword with high competition. The website is barely 2 months old. When I checked not much SEO is done on the website other than basic title/desc tags. No backlinks. The website pushed down our website and took its place for the keyword. The only reason that came to my mind is the latest penguin update. Or is the ranking just temporary???, will it eventually be pushed back?? its been holding on for atleast one month and its irritating. Thanks in advance.

I'm making a java Swing application, there has many controls, I'm placing multiple panel in a single panel and place that panel as the center pane of a dialog. As an Ask Ubuntu user I can see that most of the users (including myself) are asking questions about entertainment related problems. Is that all? No commercial use with it? Do people make fun of Ubuntu or just pretending to be Ubuntu users and use Windows secretly? Please don't hate me or make fun of me, I know lots of people trying to make Ubuntu even better, and I know it's better than Windows (if Adobe software just work on Ubuntu, I won't see Windows logo on my monitor anymore). What hinders Ubuntu from getting traction in the professional field?

• Can not get to login screen, background starts with terminal prompt only

  my uncle has Ubuntu on his work PC. Basically I came in to work today, and he had lost his UNITY side bar. I told him start with just rebooting it. He rebooted it... now it does not even get to the login screen. It gets to the background with the word UBUNTU, and the 6 or 7 dots, does it's little loading dot thing... then stops, and a black terminal opens on the top left with the background still in place. Personally, I think he screwed it up himself. He always swears he didn't touch anything, but I know better... Either way, I can't get him back into the desktop to even see if the sidebar is back. He's always screwing around pressing the wrong buttons on the login screen, hitting admin things and such... Any ideas?

• How can I cleanup a botched Truecrypt installation?

  I made the mistake of downloading the X64 version of Truecrypt and trying to install it when I'm actually running the 32-bit version of Precise Pangolin. I want to clean up the files that I am unable to use, but of course I can't just run the uninstall since Truecrypt could not be installed in the first place. I am new to this but I have spent some time researching the command line. When I run "locate trucrypt -i" in the terminal I receive several relevant files in the usr/bin and usr/share directories. No "rm" commands work on these listed files--I only get "no such file or directory" back. I'm sure this has something to do with permissions but I don't know what I'm missing here. Why is it I cannot find these files through the GUI (even when I select "show hidden files") or when I try to navigate to these files via the terminal using cd and ls commands? How can I remove these files (they are there aren't they?), one way or another, from my system? Your patience and time are appreciated

• Placing newly opened windows while having a window maximized?

  I'm often working in a maximized window from which I'm opening new windows, that do not appear maximized. They are placed at the very top at the desktop in the way that I can not see the upper window decoration. The upper dock of the maximized window is in front of it. This is very unhandy, because I can not easily close or move the newly opened window. Is there a way to fix this behaviour? I played around with the Place Windows plugin in compiz but it didn't work at all. Greetings, Wauzl

• Using disqus for a website (question on SERP and backlink)

  I am building a website and am trying to decide between writing my own commenting system and using disquss. One of the main deciding factors is that (obviously), I want comments left on my page to be show on SERPS. However, I remeber reading somewhere that disqus loads comments into a page using AJAX - and therefore the comments are "invisible" as far as Googlebot and other SE crawlers are concerned. Could someone confirm or refute this? The other question I have is about whether (as a commenter), When I place a comment on another website using disqus (including any links I may add to my comment), do the lionks in my comment count as a backlink (in other words are they "dofollow" or "nofollow" links)?
