• Installation of SAP Web Application Server 6.20 fails

  I tried installing a trial version of SAP NetWeaver 7.1 on Windows Vista on my laptop but I couldn't succeed. Then I tried installing SAP Web Application Server 6.20. The installation goes all the way to 91%, at which point I get some errors and the installation stops. Does anyone have any experience with this?   I'm trying to figure out how to use the server capabilities of VLC. More specifically, how to export an SDP file when RTP streaming. In chapter 4 in the section related to RTP Streaming examples for server and client are given: vlc -vvv input_stream --sout '#rtp{dst=192.168.0.12,port=1234,sdp=rtsp://server.example.org:8080/test.sdp}' vlc rtsp://server.example.org:8080/test.sdp It's not very clear to me how to make it actually work. I have tried these two commands for server and client using two cmd instances: vlc -I rc screen:// --sout=#rtp{dst=127.0.0.1,port=4444,sdp=rtsp://localhost:8080/test.sdp} vlc -I rc rtsp://localhost:8080/test.sdp Invoking the second command causes the first one to crash. The second command shows the error message "could not connect to localhost:8080".

  Hello all. I would value some input from a few Exchange 2010 experts. I have almost completed the transition from Exchange 2003 Standard to Exchange 2010 Standard. Everything went smoothly until I tried to uninstall Exchange 2003. At that point the server bit the dust and died completely. I now have NO access to the old Exchange System Management MMC as I am running Windows 2008 SR2 and Windows 7 only. I can only fix this with ADSIEdit, EMShell, and EMConsole. I have used the 2010 shell to move/remove/verify that all mailboxes, public folders and OAB are hosted on Exchange 2010. I also verified that the routing connector has been deleted. The only two things that were not done was to remove the Recipient Update Service and actually perform the removal of the 2003 software. I have spent a lot of time going through ASDIedit and have located the old Administrative Group and the Exchange 2003 server listed under it. I also located the Recipient Update Service which includes two entries; Enterprise and my domain name. I have read that it is an unwise idea to remove the old administrative group so I won't bother messing with that. I am repeatedly getting three warnings in the Application Log. Both are from MSExchangeTransport EventID 5006 (Cannot find route to Mailbox Server OLDSERVER) and 5020 (The topology doesn't contain a route to Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003) So my questions are: To clean out AD of the old Exchange 2003 info, can I delete the server name folder (Configuration - Services - Microsoft Exchange - ExchOrg - Administrative Groups - First Administrative Group - Servers - Old Server) and also delete the Update Recipient Service (Enterprise) and Update Recipient Service (DOMAIN) containers safely? Are there any additional items I need to address to ensure the AD is clean? Thanks in advance for your help!

  Hello. I'm trying to set up video surveillance system using ip cameras and zonealarm on Arch Linux. I set up fixed ip address, I've managed to get streams from cameras, etc. However, after restart of the machine, I can not start apache again. I checked configuration of rc.conf, and saw that static ip configuration has been deleted, and also secondary nameserver in resolv.conf. Tried to re-write these with correct parameters, but now with no effect.   i've been attempting to script a database using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. i cannot get it to script some objects. It scripts others, but skips some. i can provide detailed screen shots the options being selected including all tables the folder where the script files will go the folder being empty before scripting the scripting process saying Sucess when scripting a table the destination folder no longer empty, with a hundred or so script files the script of some tables not being in the folder. • iproute2 rules and iptables NAT... what is the difference?

  We have 2 different ISP connections. Our previous "IT guy" setup our firewall like so: When /etc/rc.local was executed on startup, it did a bunch of ip rule add and ip route add commands in order to route certain internal hosts to use certain ISP connections. Then at the end of /etc/rc.local, he executed our iptables firewall rules that were generated by Firewall Builder. These iptables rules have both Policy and NAT rules setup in them. What I don't understand, is why did he use iproute2 to specify rules and routes but also specify NAT rules for iptables? Why didn't he just do it all in one or the other instead of using them both? Could he have got rid of the iproute2 rules and routes and just put all those same rules into the iptables NAT settings?

• Setting a time limit for a transaction in MySQL/InnoDB

  This sprang from this related question, where I wanted to know how to force two transactions to occur sequentially in a trivial case (where both are operating on only a single row). I got an answer—use SELECT ... FOR UPDATE as the first line of both transactions—but this leads to a problem: If the first transaction is never committed or rolled back, then the second transaction will be blocked indefinitely. The innodb_lock_wait_timeout variable sets the number of seconds after which the client trying to make the second transaction would be told "Sorry, try again"... but as far as I can tell, they'd be trying again until the next server reboot. So: Surely there must be a way to force a ROLLBACK if a transaction is taking forever? Must I resort to using a daemon to kill such transactions, and if so, what would such a daemon look like? If a connection is killed by wait_timeout or interactive_timeout mid-transaction, is the transaction rolled back? Is there a way to test this from the console? Clarification: innodb_lock_wait_timeout sets the number of seconds that a transaction will wait for a lock to be released before giving up; what I want is a way of forcing a lock to be released. Update: Here's a simple example that demonstrates why innodb_lock_wait_timeout is not sufficient to ensure that the second transaction is not blocked by the first: START TRANSACTION; SELECT SLEEP(55); COMMIT; With the default setting of innodb_lock_wait_timeout = 50, this transaction completes without errors after 55 seconds. And if you add an UPDATE before the SLEEP line, then initiate a second transaction from another client that tries to SELECT ... FOR UPDATE the same row, it's the second transaction that times out, not the one that fell asleep. What I'm looking for is a way to force an end to this transaction's restful slumber.

• Google Chrome does not launch after some months without using it in Windows XP/Seven

  Well, I have in computers I use with Windows XP or Seven more than one browser installed on them, generally Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 4, Opera 11 and Google Chrome. I often use Firefox, but I want to use Google Chrome sometimes because I have a lot of addons and webapps on it. The issue is: when I try to execute Chrome after some months without using it, it does not function. Using Proccess Explorer or Task Manager, I can see that there is not any Google proccesses running. Then I reinstall it and all functions. But if I do not use it for some months again, it will not function... Is it an update problem? Must I use Chrome everyday or is there another way to avoid that issue? PS: I installed English and Portuguese last versions (how to get the version numbers when it does not execute?), not at the same time, and it continues to do not launch... • How do I install the main repositories for RHEL6

  We've setup RHEL6 on a new server. As far as we can tell, our subscription is all setup properly. However, when I run yum repolist, it doesn't show any repositories. /etc/yum.repos.d/redhat.repo is empty. I tried pasting in the content from another RHEL6 server's redhat.repo but as soon as I run yum, it wipes it out again. I just need to get the basic RedHat repositories setup so I can install packages. EDIT: Using the GUI, I went to System Administration Red Hat Subscription Manager. Under the 'Products' tab, it did not show any products. EDIT: When I run yum update, here's what I get: # yum update Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, security, subscription-manager This system is receiving updates from Red Hat Subscription Management. Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update When I log in to RedHat customer portal, it shows that subscription as active. EDIT: To make sure I wasn't having a subscription issue.   I am setting up a development environment for the latest Android 2.3 on a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. I first installed the 64-bit JDK 6 (jdk-6u23-windows-x64.exe). Then, I installed 64-bit Eclipse Classic 3.6 (eclipse-SDK-3.6.1-win32-x86_64.zip). Then, I proceed to install the Android SDK Starter Package: installer_r08-windows.exe. But... upon start it says: "Java SE Development Kit (JDK) not found." Why? I just installed it. Is this a mismatch between 32-bit and 64-bit? How do I solve this? Update (1): I tried setting the %JAVA_HOME% environment variable, as well as setting the Installed JREs in Eclipse, as suggested below. None of these solved the problem. We'll see how this goes... Update (3): It worked! (going to accept @bubu's answer shortly) -- but why doesn't the emulator include the HelloAndroid app when I run it (Ctrl+F11) from Eclipse?

• SQL Server Management Studio not scripting all objects

  i've been attempting to script a database using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. i cannot get it to script some objects. It scripts others, but skips some. i can provide detailed screen shots the options being selected including all tables the folder where the script files will go the folder being empty before scripting the scripting process saying Sucess when scripting a table the destination folder no longer empty, with a hundred or so script files the script of some tables not being in the folder. And earlier SSMS would not script some views. Is this a known thing that the the Generate Scripts task does not generate scripts? Update Known issue on Microsoft Connect, but Microsoft couldn't repro the steps, so they closed closed the ticket. Fails on SQL Server 2005, also fails on SQL Server 2008. • svn post-commit not performing

  ive been sitting on this for about 7 hours, and ive aged close to 7 years... ahhh, server admin does that to me. i have svn wired through apache2 with webdav in the usual manner (basically like http://www.howtoforge.com/setting-up-subversion-with-webdav-post-commit-hook-and-multiple-sites-on-jaunty-jackalope-ubuntu-9.04). ive had endless problems with this (i didnt on my previous ubuntu server install, although this is ubuntu 10.10): this happened, and was fixed like in the post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2547400/how-do-you-fix-an-svn-409-conflict-error this looks like my issue, although its not my solution: http://serverfault.com/questions/135494/apache-svn-on-ubuntu-post-commit-hook-fails-silently-pre-commit-hook-permis my commit to svn works (finally). although the post-commit hook which is supposed to svn update the working copy of the repo on the server, doesn't work. the post-commit hook itself executes, and has sudo permissions (as in the setup url above. testing with whoami somelogfile.log or sudo whoami somelogfile.log shows www-data and root, respectively), although it wont perform the svn update (sudo svn update /var/www/gameServer /var/svn/gameServer.log). similar to the serverfault url above, when i perform the exact command it does update the working copy to the latest revision, just not through the post-commit hook. an age old question that is 90% of the time a permissions issue. but in pure frustration i chmod 777 lots of stuff not to mention the fact that www-data is in /etc/sudoer so it shouldnt even need that. im collapsing in front of the screen partly out of frustration and partly out of sleepiness. any direction would be appreciated.

• Microsoft Word 2007 restarts the installer upon exiting on Windows XP

  A user complained that they were having issues with MS Office 2007, and that the installation / configuration dialog kept appearing. I already tried uninstalling Office 2007 and I ended up needing to use the Microsoft Fix It package to uninstall it, since using the control panel failed. I close Microsoft Word. The Installer for Microsoft Office inexplicably opens. I then get a dialog that says I need to reboot. So I restart... Start Microsoft Word, Word starts up, and everything appears to be fine. I close word, and nothing much happens this is on the administrator account. I think everything is fixed so I call the user over to come try their account out. We login as the user, and the user tries to open a document in Word. The Configuration Progress Window reappears. It runs...and then Word appears. I close it and it appears to work, no window. I open it again and the Configuration Progress window appears yet again... Then Word opens up again, if I exit out and open up again I get the same Configuration Progress window. I have no idea what is causing the Configuration Progress Window to come up.. Update: I attempted to install two updates: Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB2687400) Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB967642) Both of these updates failed. Update: I attempted to install KB967642 manually and it failed.

• Windows XP: How to delete files and folders that cannot be deleted?

  I have a backup copy of a previous Windows' Documents and Settings folder which only contains my original user and within 2 more directories: Favorites and Local Settings. When I try to delete Local Settings I get this error: When I try to delete Favorites, I get this error: I ran this in a cmd shell: attrib *.* -r -a -s -h /s ...but it did not help, nor did it return any errors/warnings. I used Unlocker v1.8.5 and LockHunter repeatedly at multiple levels to see if any files are in use, but both always say: No Files Locked. Update #1: I was able to rename the directory, which now gives me this warning before (trying to) delete: If I press Yes (or Yes to All) then I get this error: Update #2: I let chkdsk /f run which required a reboot since it's on my primary system partition. During Stage 2 scanning, I received about 40 of these: Deleting an index entry from index $0 of file 25. ...followed by: Deleting index entry cookies in index $I30 of file 37576. ...but I still get the first error dialog above when trying to delete. Update #3: Digging deeper, the 99 is the name of one of many directories located deep in here: C:\Documents and Settings.OLD\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\[email protected]\SharingMetadata\[email protected]\DFSR\Staging\CS{D4E4AE55-B5E2-F03B-5189-6C4DA6E41788}\ Inside each of those directories were files with names such as: 2300-{C93D01AC-0739-4FD9-88C7-13D2F21A208E}-v2300-{C93D01AC-0739-4FD9-88C7-13D2F21A208E}-v2300-Downloaded.frx I noticed that, unlike all the directories, I couldn't rename any of these files. I also noticed that the file + dir names were extremely long: Original directory = 194 characters Filenames = 100+ characters Together the length exceeds the 255-char limit which is bad and would explain the error message I posted in Update #1. Partial Solution: Rename all directories until the total path length is less than 100. Afterwards I was able to rename the .frx files, not to mention delete everything inside the Local Settings directory. This is only a partial solution because this (empty) directory is still undeleteable: C:\1\2\Favorites\Wien\What To Do.. I'm guessing because of the ".." at the end, Windows (Explorer and cmd) can't deal with it: Here is what Explorer properties shows: Any ideas?

• Windows 7 admin denied access to taskmgr, system32 dir

  I have a Windows 7 (32-bit) box with 2 users, both admins (my wife and I are both developers). My admin account was created during Windows setup, hers was created later. Both accounts are in the same groups, yet we have VERY different permissions. In the beta and RC, both accounts worked identically (RC to RTM was a fresh install on this box, not an upgrade). I have a C:\bin folder with the sysinternals utilities and a bunch of other stuff. Running anything in there or in system32 just works on my account, on hers I get access denied errors (cannot access file or path). If I right click and try Run As Administrator, I still get the same thing!!!

• Compiling to a binary from source

  I'm using WKHTMLTOPDF on a 64-bit Linux server and I'm running into problems with the version. Seen here: http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/downloads/list There's slim pickins when it comes to pre-compiled binaries. I started with version 0.9.9 which has a few bugs. I upgraded to 0.11.0 RC 1 to find a slew of new problems, namely the following: http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/issues/detail?id=730 I think 0.10 RC 2 would work, and the thread above suggests compiling from the source has a fix for the error I'm getting, but I don't know how to do that. Can anyone explain how I can create a static binary myself, or would anyone be willing to create and post one for the countless people waiting for this fix?

  My shared host suspended my website stating system overload, so I moved my website to a VPS which has 4GB RAM. But for some reason the website has become very slow. I have already tried to optimize apache, mysql etc. Update 2: CPU usage is low, see uptime output: 11:09:02 up 7 days, 21:26, 1 user, load average: 0.09, 0.11, 0.09 Update 3: When I load any webpage, browser shows "Waiting" for a long time and then page loads quickly. So I suspect server can accept only limited connections and holds extra connections in a waiting state. How to check this? • Why won't my computer go to sleep automatically?

  Windows 8 is set to sleep after 30 mins, and it used to work, but recently it's started refusing to sleep. (I can still manually ask it to go to sleep without any issue.) I was having issues a while ago, but it was with my network adapter. That's since been disabled, so it's definitely not that: I've checked to see what devices are able to wake up my machine, but it only appears to be my mouse: Which is odd, because I haven't recently changed my mouse, and more confusing still: The monitor does go to sleep just fine. If it was actually the mouse keeping my system awake, I'm pretty sure the monitor wouldn't go to sleep. I've checked my Wake Timers, and nothing: I've also checked my existing requests... UPDATE: I found something. What to do with it, I don't know... Note: Even when /requests says that there's "NONE" under every category, my machine still won't sleep(!). In short: How can I tell what's preventing my computer from Sleeping? UPDATE: Ok, so I now have a few more pieces of the puzzle. I came back to my computer and it was ASLEEP! Lawks! It seems that the only times it doesn't sleep is if VLC Player is open, even if a video isn't actually playing. UPDATE UPDATE: Ok, so it won't sleep sometimes when VLC Player ISN'T running, either. Bah!

• Can I convert an existing Firefox installation to ESR without a re-install?

  It took some jumping through hoops (including a mailing list subscription that I apparently didn't need) but I finally found where to download the Firefox ESR. This is great for fresh installs, but I was wondering if there's a way to simply convert existing installations to the ESR configuration without having to do a full install. As I understand it, the only difference between ESR and regular Firefox will be how they receive updates. After the new standard version of Firefox comes out, ESR releases will only receive critical security updates and bug fixes for the remainder of their support life. Newer versions of Firefox's standard build will have all the latest and greatest features, while ESR releases are meant to provide stability for environments that can't be expected to keep up with a new full version number change as often as Mozilla does them. In regular Firefox, the About screen shows that I am using the "release" update channel. Is switching to ESR really just a matter of switching the update channel? I presume this can be done in about:config by changing app.update.channel and probably also app.update.url. However, I don't know what these values should be for ESR or if anything else should be tweaked. So, is it possible to switch to ESR without a reinstall and, if so, how? (Note: While this question was written originally for Firefox 10, I expect any answers will apply to future ESR versions as well.)

• Use WSUS without client configuration

  Hello *, is there any way to let client-PCs use the local WSUS-server without having to configure them? What we need is a system to update PCs before they are delivered to the users. So the WSUS-server is accessible only within our lab, not later on at the users place. We'd like to use WSUS because it will fasten up the download very much. And we don't like to modify the clients as those changes might be forgotten to remove and then at the users place no update will be possible. So the easiest way would be, if one could redirect the normal Microsoft update, but I'm pretty sure that this will not be possible as this update will not be WSUS compliant. An other option I thought of might be, that the DHCP delivers an extra option telling the clients where to get the updates. But I could not find any information about this, so it looks like that this isn't possible too. So, is there any way? Or will it be easier to use a little script to change the WSUS-entries automatically? Regards sc911

• Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center Needed for Keyboard but Doesn't Support Mouse

  I recently built a new computer (running Win7 Pro 64-bit) that includes the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard. To make use of all the extra features of this keyboard I need the Mouse and Keyboard Center. I just ran Windows Update for the first time on this system and the Mouse and Keyboard Center was included in the update. I'm left-handed and before the update I had the mouse set up for lefty use. Now after the update, it's been set to righty use and the original mouse control panel applet no longer allows the assignment of buttons. For that there's a link to the Mouse and Keyboard Center which does not support my oldish mice. (I have an IntelliMouse Optical and a Creative Mouse Lite Pro.) So I need the new utility for my keyboard, but I have to be right-handed to use my mouse? Really! I tried changing HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse\SwapMouseButtons to 1, but a reboot set it back to 0. Is there some way I can change my mouse back to left-handed? Thanx -eljay
