• 500 Internal Server Error after changing .NET Framework Version to 4.0 in IIS7

  I just changed my .NET Framework Version of the Application Pools in IIS7 Manager, following these instructions. Now when I try to re-upload my ASP.Net page, it shows me a 500 - Internal server error. I have tried uploading it in .net 2.0(X86, X64, AnyCPU), and 4.0(X86, X64, AnyCPU), and everything gives the same error. This is all the details the error gives me: "There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed." When keeping the .NET version on 2.0 on the server, it works just fine. Also, when uploading "index.htm", it works fine as well, it just shows the HTML page. This is on Windows Server 2008 R2, by the way. EDIT: I have finally found out how to get the error details. Here they are: "Handler "PageHandlerFactory-Integrated" has a bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list." "Most likely causes: •Managed handler is used; however, ASP.NET is not installed or is not installed completely. •There is a typographical error in the configuration for the handler module list. Things you can try: •Install ASP.NET if you are using managed handler. •Ensure that the handler module's name is specified correctly. Module names are case-sensitive and use the format modules="StaticFileModule,DefaultDocumentModule,DirectoryListingModule"." I am sure that I have installed ASP.NET completely. Please help me, -René

• SQL Server Express backup/restore error: The Media Family on Device is Incorrectly Formed.

  Basically, I'm having this issue: http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm What I'm doing is running a script I found online (http://pastebin.com/3n0ZfybL) to do a full backup, then rar'ing up the file and moving it to my computer. The CRC of the backup file inside the rar is correct on both computers, so there is no problem with data being corrupted when I transfer it. But then I go and try to restore the database on my dev computer here and I get the errors "sql server cannot process this media family" ... "msg 3013". Why is this happening? I'd test out the backup on the server I'm getting it from, but it's a production server. • Referencing SQL Server 2008 R2 SMO from Visual Studio 2010

  Hello. We read a number of things about referencing SQL Server SMO from Visual Studio but still don't have the definite answers we need. So, here it goes... A number of years ago we created a C# application using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. In that application, we added .NET references to a number of SQL Server SMO objects, and everything worked fine. Those references were: Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo GAC 9.0.242.0 Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo GAC 9.0.242.0 Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum GAC 9.0.242.0 We have now migrated to Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2. However, when we try to reference those same SMO objects for SQL Server 2008 R2, they don't appear in the .NET references tab. We're wanting to reference the SQL Server 2008 R2 version of those same SMO assemblies for our upgraded C# application. On our development machines, we have SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer installed with all options, including the SDK such that the assemblies are found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\SDK\Assemblies. So, my first questions are: Are we supposed to do file references to the SMO assemblies instead of .NET references in Visual Studio 2010 w/ SQL Server 2008 R2? Or, is there some problem with our development machines such that the SMO assemblies are not appearing in the .NET references tab? Next, our production machines will have SQL Server 2008 R2 Workgroup installed with the client tools option selected, thus providing those same SMO assemblies in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\SDK\Assemblies. So, the next questions are: When we release to production, are we supposed to redistribute the SMO assemblies with our application? Or, will our application work on the production servers without redistributing the SMO assemblies (since the client tools/SMO assemblies have been installed)? What else????? Thanks for the help!

• Setup.exe called from a batch file crashes with error 0x0000006

  We're going to be installing some new software on pretty much all of our computers and I'm trying to setup a GPO to do it. We're running a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller and all of our machines are Windows 7. The GPO calls the following script which sits on a network share on our file server. The script it self calls an executable that sits on another network share on another server. The executable will imediatelly crash with an error 0x0000006. The event log just says this: Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Setup.exe because of this error. Here's the script (which is stored on \\WIN2K8R2-F-01\Remote Applications): @ECHO OFF IF DEFINED ProgramFiles(x86) ( ECHO DEBUG: 64-bit platform SET _path="C:\Program Files (x86)\Canam" ) ELSE ( ECHO DEBUG: 32-bit platform SET _path="C:\Program Files\Canam" ) IF NOT EXIST %_path% ( ECHO DEBUG: Folder does not exist PUSHD \\WIN2K8R2-PSA-01\PSA Data\Client START "" "Setup.exe" "/q" POPD ) ELSE ( ECHO DEBUG: Folder exists ) Running the script manually as administrator also results in the same error. Setting up a shortcut with the same target and parameters works perfectly. Manually calling the executable also works. Not sure if it matters, but the installer is based on dotNETInstaller. I don't know what version though. I'd appreciate any suggestions on fixing this. Thanks in advance! UPDATE I highly doubt this matters, but the network share that the script is hosted in is a shared drive, while the network share the script references for the executable is a shared folder. Also, both shares have Domain Computers listed with full access for the sharing and security tabs. And PUSHD works without wrapping the path in quotes.

• Windows 8, IIS8 how to make PHP imagick work

  I'm new to IIS server before IIS for 6 years I used Apache 2.X and with Apache imageMagick and its PHP module imagick worked just fine even with x64 version of PHP and Apache 2.4 and imageMagick. I tried to make imagick to work with IIS8 but it wont work. I always get the typical PHP startup warning in my log PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:\Program Files (x86)\iis express\PHP\v5.4\ext\php_imagick.dll' - %1 is not a valid Win32 application. in Unknown on line 0 And the next thing why is IIS loading php from IIS express folder if I have php in the program files? But actually I dont care until it works :) So what I did so far I unistalled imageMagick 6.7.X 64bit version and installed the latest x86 version, tested it in command line and it worked, than I looked up on net the latest imagick DLL which was I think the 3.1.0RC2 (founded here http://www.peewit.fr/imagick/) than I copied the dll to PHP's ext folder than edited php.ini and added the imagick to the dynamic extensions after that I restarted IIS and than nothing :( I got the error which I wrote earlier. Today I installed PEAR package Installer because I read somewhere that someone made it work with it but he also mentioned, that he needed to comply wincache too. Isn't there any easier solutions to make it work? Could someone maybe write me a step by step guide how to make this work.

  First of all after much pain i figured out how to make it work in Apache 2.4 windowz. Here is my configuration that seems to work successfully for git clone and push and everything. Problem First of all my configuration works. There is a "Require all denied" at / directory. I want only git functionality and nothing else. • Failing Windows Updates with Error Code 800719e4

  On a number of Vista machines I have now come across the same error - when installing updates everything works fine, until it after it reboots and the rolls back during step 3. On all occasions (where a simple retry hasn't worked) the error code has been 800719e4. On my own laptop I have so far tried the following:- Installed the updates one by one manually - I started on the smallest and one by one have worked towards the largest one which has left me with "Security Update for Windows (KB2286198)" that refuses to install. Renamed all the files in "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS" to "xxx.old" where xxx was the original name with windows update turned off - no change Renamed all the folders in "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" in the same manner - no change Attempted to install it manually "Windows6.0-KB2286198-x86.msu" - no change Tried to un-install IE8 - doesn't work, rolls back at the end (Installing the IE9 Beta when it launched was what alerted me to the issue on this laptop) Ran a "Fix It" thing from the Microsoft Website - no help (Can't find the link now). Tried to recover from the disk - but alas my laptop only has a recovery partition (and was unservice packed original). Ran with nothing running on startup, and only MS services - again no change. Google is being useless with a load of posts trying to get me to call a telephone number with letters in (presumably an American number) The error code appears to mean error log full but no one has any idea which log! • Apache can't be restarted after changes to the configuration file

  Hello, I can't successfully configure the apache and php configuration files, can anybody help me in this way? Apache 2.2.16 (win32-x86-no_ssl.msi) was installed into “C:\Apache2.2 “location. Then PHP 5.3.3 (VC9 x86 Thread Safe) zip file was downloaded and extracted on “C:\php” location. From “C:\php” I renamed the “php.ini-development” file into “php.ini” “php.ini” file was opened with notepad, and modified as: doc_root = "C:\Apache2.2\htdocs" extension_dir = "C:\php\ext" The following lines were added to the Apache's configuration file “httpd.conf”: LoadModule php5_module "C:/php/php5apache2_2.dll" AddType application/x-httpd-php .php PHPIniDir "C:/php" N.B.: Thanks all for comments and answer, but I can't reply none your comments, I don't know why. May be I'm not privileged to put any comment as I'm new here (is it the case?)! That's why I'm to edit my post to reply you all. • Windows 7 Explorer keeps crashing

  I currently have an issue with Windows Explorer. It keeps crashing when I browse through a network drive. This is happening on several computers. • How to Set up MySQL Server to utilize more memory

  Hi there, I have MySQL setup on Windows along with Plesk. The version is 5.0.45 Community. The databases I have on the server are MyISAM as well as InnoDb, but predominantly innodb. I had 8G memory on my server, but MySQL isn't going up more than 1.3G and tweaking the settings isn't helping. I tried to increase the memory allocation for innodb_buffer_pool_size, it works if I set it up to 1G, but if I set 2G, or above the server doesn't come back online! I want mySQL to use at least 5-6 Gigs of the memory I have for performance, but I can't get this to work. Can anyone please help? My mysql config file is below (there are 2 mysqld sections... when i used MySQL workbench it created another one!) • Forcing programs to be installed to another drive

  I have an SSD as my main Windows drive, with a 640GB 2.5" HDD, partitioned to store programs and user settings, and also to act as backup (it's the only thing I had lying around at the time of building my PC). The task was to make the PC as fast as possible, while having an increased storage capacity available to store normal user data, and to assist in my small data recovery business. The problem is that whenever I install a program, it installs to C:\Program Files [(x86 for the 32 bit programs]\, although I have changed the environment variables. This wouldn't normally be an issue, however every installation program points its shortcut to my 640GB HDD. The root layout of both drives: To clarify: Program files get installed to C:\ Program shortcuts are always pointed to Z:\, my 640GB HDD Modifying the relevant environment variables doesn't do anything, I looked at this, but however it only talks about modifying the registry and environment variables, which I have already done so. I install to the Z:\ drive if the installation program lets me change the installation path, but however the installation programs sometimes don't let me change this. Is there a way that I can force every program to install to the relevant location on Z:\? Perhaps I'm missing something here? Edit: Found this program; would it be appropriate to use in my case? I would be able to move the entire Program Files (and its x86 version) to Z:\, without impacting on the performance.

  I'm running PHP 5.3, FastCGI, and IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008. I have a site which I would like to configure its own php.ini settings for but things aren't working as expected. I am following the tutorial located here. This is what I have done so far: 1) Configured a new website with it's own AppPool. 2) Selected PHP 5.3.6 from the PHP Manager available on the website home on IIS (not the web server home which sets the global version of PHP) 3) Added the following lines to the section of the applicationHost.config file located at system32/inetsrv/config <application fullPath="C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\v5.3\php-cgi.exe" arguments="-d open_basedir=C:\inetpub\wwwroot\kickasswebsite.com" maxInstances="4" idleTimeout="300" activityTimeout="30" requestTimeout="90" instanceMaxRequests="200" protocol="NamedPipe" queueLength="1000" flushNamedPipe="false" rapidFailsPerMinute="10"> <environmentVariables> <environmentVariable name="PHPRC" value="c:\inetpub\wwwroot\kickasswebsite.com" /> </environmentVariables> </application> 4) I then create a php.ini file located in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\kickasswebsite.com (the location of the root of the website) register_globals = on 5) I then run test.php which simply outputs everything the method call to phpinfo() returns. At this point, I observe that the global setting for register_globals = off (as it should be), but the local setting for register_globals = off, even though I specified it differently in the php.ini file I created at the root of the site. Furthermore, I see these settings in the output of the php.ini Configuration File (php.ini) Path C:\Windows Loaded Configuration File C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\v5.3\php.ini Scan this dir for additional .ini files (none) Additional .ini files parsed (none) What am I messing up on, or is there a different way to go about this?

• Deleting old system folders from a drive that is no longer the windows installation drive

  I dropped my laptop and was no longer able to boot. There were error messages about a corrupt boot record. Replacing the hard drive and reinstalling Win 7 was how I dealt with it. The old drive still appears to be good and I can read and write to it when I connect it as a second drive and mount as D:. However, if I try to recover the space being used by the windows, programdata, program files & program files(x86) folders, by deleting them I get error messages about needing permission from trustedinstaller. If I set myself as the owner of the folders and retry the delete I get error messages about needing permission from myself! Since I'm pretty sure that I have permission from myself to delete the folders, I can only assume that the OS or file system has gotten its panties twisted. I have tried shift, right click, delete from explorer and also if I run "del /f /s /q D:\Windows" from an admin command prompt, I get a succession of Access is denied messages as well. How do I delete D:\Windows, D:\ProgramData, D:\Program Files & D:\Program Files(x86) from a drive that is not the Windows installation drive?

• How to (re)enable the "New" context menu items for an administrator when right-clicking in a folder and selecting New > X?

  I just migrated from XP x86 to Win7 x64 (clean install). I had a couple of data drives in my XP x86 system that I physically moved to my Win7 x64 system. When browsing a directory in any of the transferred drives, the only option available in the 'new' context menu is "Folder", i.e., Right-Click inside a folder New Folder (this is similar behavior for Win7 when using the context menu in c:\Program Files): However, whenever creating a new folder within any of the directories, all the context menu new items are available within the new folder: Steps I've taken that have failed to add the new context menu items: Removing all security permissions from a directory and sub-directories. Replacing them with new permissions. As well as removing inheritable permissions from the parent. Taking explicit ownership of a directory and sub-directories. Combing the above two. Sample of Effective Permissions that do not work: Steps I've taken that have succeeded to add the new context menu items: Adding the "Everyone" group to the drive and giving the group explicit "Modify" privileges. Giving the "Everyone" group explicit privileges smells wrong. I'm an administrator on my system; why should I have to add the "Everyone" group as well? Adding my username to the drive and giving full permissions. Again, since I'm an administrator on my system and the administrators group already has full control of the drive/directories/folders, why should I have to explicitly add my user name to the security permissions? Finally, The Question: Is it possible to have the New Item context menu have all available options by default without having to explicitly add the everyone group or a specific user name to the security permissions? I'm suspecting that the option may not be available unless the username is explicitly added to the security permissions. Of note: I've seen the registry hacks for updating the new items context menu; my preference is to avoid such hacks and return the functionality to the expected behavior an administrator should have.

  We have a Meraki MR16 Cloud Managed AP and it disconnects certain clients. The clients with Intel wireless cards work without any disconnects. The Meraki reports the follow in its event log: Sep 4 09:55:47 WPA authentication Sep 4 09:55:47 802.11 association channel: 11, rssi: 64 Sep 4 09:55:38 802.11 disassociation client has left AP Sep 4 09:55:38 WPA deauthentication vap: 0, radio: 0, aid: 1633956416 An example wireless network card which the Meraki disconnects is Realtek RTL8191SE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter. The realtek laptop is sat 2 meters away from the AP and has a lot of signal and the Meraki reports minimal interference. Any ideas why it disconnects non-intel wireless network cards?

  System = Windows 7 64-bit Various programs, notably Regedit, won't start. Instead I get: The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Strangly, at least to my thinking, I can launch them via Task Manager. I am also grappling with AVG errors or over-activity, e.g. reports of Broken digital Signature. I am also having problems with Excel Update KB978474 I mention these just incase anyone thinks there is a connection, rather than expecting people to solve 3 problems at once.

  Does anyone know of a portable version of the Sonicwall Global VPN Client compatible with Windows 7 64 bit? I basically need to connect to my workplace during heavy snow here in Liverpool, and the only logon I have available on this computer is a non-administrator account (which won't let me install the program)... And I can't get hold of the administrator! If anyone knows of any alternative program/any hacks or other suggestions would be very welcome! Note I've tried extracting the MSI using 7-zip, which presented me with an MSI installer and "RunMSI.exe". The extracted MSI allowed me to get part way through the installation, and then asked for admin password again.

• What is asloader.exe and why does it want to run elevated?

  I have Vista 64-bit ultimate on my home computer, with accounts for each family member. Most are administrators but I have one kid with a plain user account. When she logs in she gets a prompt that asloader wants to run but needs administrator. I gather that this has something to do with either the ASUS mobo (P6T Deluxe V2) or the ATI graphics card (Sapphire 4890 OC). Can anyone explain what asloader does, and suggest how I might configure something to suppress the prompt my kid gets? Thanks.

  I have Windows 7 64-bit running on a MacBook Pro in a Boot Camp partition. I am trying to pair with my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and wireless keyboard under Windows, but whenever I try to do so, here's what happens: While on the Add a device window, I turn on the mouse or press a key on the keyboard, and the mouse or keyboard shows up in the list of available devices. I click the device and then the Next button, and the window displays Connecting to device... Time passes. Eventually, I get this error message indicating that the device could not be accessed. The error code is 0x80070015. I've run Windows Update and Apple Software Update.

• Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server with installed licenses will not go beyond 2 connections

  I installed the Terminal Server role in Windows Server 2003 Standard 64-bits. Still, only 2 connections are allowed. The License Manager says that there are 10 Device CALs available, which is correct, and that none are given out. For good measure I let the server reboot, to no effect. Before this, there was another server (same Windows, except that it is 32 bits) active as a licensing server. I removed the role first and then then added it to the new server. I then removed the Terminal Server Licensing Server component off the old one and added it to the new one. After that, I added to licenses. When that didn't give the required result, I rebooted to new server. Still, the new server, with licenses and all, acts as if it has the 2 license RDP. The server are all stand-alone, there is no active directory been set up. Both servers are in different workgroups.

• Unable to execute file in the temporary directory

  I am using Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. I see this error, almost everytime I launch an executable file (to install it) but not for all of them. I don't see the error when I use Run as Administrator. I looked around, and found a solution: I needed to give permissions to the current user for the temp file as shown in the picture below: The problem here is solved temporarily, but it goes back to give me the same problem after restarting the PC. What can I do to prevent such a thing? I don't really want to use the built in Administrator account all the time. Update: The problem is caused by the cracked version of Adobe Acrobat.   I have installed Adobe CS6 on Windows 8 and get the error "0xc000007b" every time I open open Adobe After Effects. All other Adobe software, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, work perfectly. I have looked online extensively but have not found any solutions. What can I try/do to resolve this error?
