• OpenVPN on Ubuntu 11.10 - unable to redirect default gateway

  I'm trying to connect to connect to OpenVPN server from my Ubuntu 11.10 machine. I use the following command to do it (under root user): openvpn --config /home/vladimir/client.ovpn Everything seems to be OK, it connects normally without any warnings and errors, but when I try to browse the internet I see that I still use my own IP address, so VPN connection doesn't work. When I run openvpn command, it displays the following message among others: NOTE: unable to redirect default gateway -- Cannot read current default gateway from system I think it's the cause of this problem, but unfortunately I don't know how to fix it. • Windows 7 Can't Get Past Format

  Just assembled a new machine: MSI 880GM-E41 motherboard 500GB Samsung hard drive AMD Athlon II X4 640 processor 4GB RAM Windows 7 64 Bit LITE-ON Black 4X Blu-ray reader I boot up, start the install. When it gets to the screen to select what partition, the motherboard loses power. It doesnt make sense, I can leave it in the bios settings for a very long time and it doesnt lose power. When it does lose power, the monitor shuts down and the mouse loses power, but the power light stays on. I cannot tell if it is a harware or software problem.

I have checked on my setting for startup homepage for FF under the Tools > Options, it was set to Google as my default page. • ADSIEdit freezes gettings properties of a group with hundred of thousands members

  Doing performance testing on an AD-LDS (Server 2008 R2 64 bits), we created a milion user in a single OU. We also created a single group object and made those milion users member of that group. When we try to list the milion of users ADSIEdit times out with an error message saying it cannot display that many users. Fine. But if we open the properties for the group, ADSIEdit freezes, eating up all available memory and CPU trashing (nearly 60M page faults in under an hour). AD-LDS (running on another computer) is barely hitting the 1% CPU mark, servicing other ldap requests as if nothing were. We can throw more memory at the problem, but more users will have to be managed one day and we will be back at square one. Is there a way to set a limit in ADSIEdit so that it will not hang the computer when retreving a very large multi-value object ?

• Growing the size of a VM's disk in VMware

  I have a VM that I originally gave 10 GB to (using VMware workstation, and Ubuntu 11.10 is the guest OS). I now wish to add to that. I have seen the option to expand the disk size, but all that does is create a new "partition" that Ubuntu can see. Is there a way to expand the size of the primary partition that the guest OS is using? NOTE: I have seen something regarding doing this for a regular Ubunbu OS that requires a boot disk. Is there a way that I can apply that to this VM case? Using Windows 7 64-bit as the host OS EDIT: To be clear, I am trying to resize the boot partition. Edit 2: GParted's resize option is greyed out.

What have I done until now?   I am using DNSmasq, OpenDNS and DYNDNS. DYNDNS is for my FTP site, and I am using OPEN DNS to filter porn from my kids itouch/ipad. However, I would like a few computers to have the capability to bypass openDNS, and pass through to a fast DNS server like google or similar. I would also like to fowrard all traffice from DYNDNS to my FTP server. Any ideas? • Can't Remove Logical Drive/Array from HP P400

  This is my first post here. Thank you in advance for any assistance with this matter. I'm trying to remove a logical drive (logical drive 2) and an array (array "B") from my Smart Array P400. The host is a DL580 G5 running 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.7 (Tikanga). I am unable to remove the array using either hpacucli or cpqacuxe. I believe it is because of "OS Status: LOCKED". The file system that lives on this array has been unmounted. I do not want to reboot the host. Is there some way to "release" this logical drive so I can remove the array? Note that I do not need to preserve the data on logical drive 2. I intend to physically remove the drives from the machine and replace them with larger drives. I'm using the cciss kernel module that ships with Red Hat 5.7. • Toshiba Satellite laptop connected to HDTV

  I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6014 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit connected to a Toshiba Regza 42" HDTV with an HDMI cable. The laptop has a 16" display and the screen resolution is set to the maximum/recommended of 1366x768. The display output is set to "LCD+HDMI". The display looks fine on the laptop screen but on the TV it is not a "full screen" display, it leaves a good 3" black border all around all 4 edges. When I switch the display to "HDMI only", it is now too big for the TV screen and some of my desktop icons are no longer visible off to the side. What is the best way to set this up? I guess that since a 16" and 42" displays have different native resolutions, a LCD+HDMI mode is defaulting to the optimal size for the 16". But when I set it to HDMI Only, what is the appropriate resolution for a 42" full screen display? Thanks

• Trouble downloading a file due to lack of permission

  After downloading this file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/315/hon/hon_update.exe before it actually copies to my computer I get this error: File Access Denied <title of box> You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file. Within this box are to buttons: Try Again or Cancel I have searched other similar "permission" type questions, but they seem to all refer to existing files or folders. How do I give permission to a file which doesn't exist yet? (since it is in the process of downloading and hasn't finally copied over yet) I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I would be happy to supply any other information to help clarify.

• Can't Install Windows 2008 R2 on Lenovo Laptop With SSD

  I am trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 on a new Lenovo X201 or T410 laptop. Setup halts with the following pop-up: A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive you can safely remove it for this step. The CD drive is obviously working, as it's booting from CD to get to this point. The only thing I can think is that it is to do with the fact they have SSD disks in - but that's just a guess. (Edit - One extra thing that may or may not be relevant: it's the 64 bit version of Server 2008 R2)

• Acer Aspire ASE700-UQ660A will not respond to power button

  This is something of a continuation of this question. I am now completely unable to boot this computer. The last time I used it, I used hibernation mode. When I needed to use it again, it would not respond at all to the power button, keyboard, or mouse. I tried: Holding down the power button for 15 seconds pressing the power button Unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds, plugging it back in, and trying again Removing the motherboard battery for over a minute and reinstalling it Before removing the motherboard battery, none of the lights on the front of the computer lit up. After reinstalling the battery and plugging the power cord back in, the light behind the power button is constantly illuminated (without even pressing the power button), but there is still no response to the power button, no fans turned on, nothing else that would indicate that it is running. • Login loop in Snow Leopard

  I can't get out of a login loop of a particular admin user. After entering the password the login screen is shown again after about a minute. Other users work fine. It started happening after a simple reboot. Can you please help me? Thank you! • Logitech MK300 : "no driver found"

  Hi I bought kewyboard and mouse from Logitech. The model is MK300. I wanna run 64-bits Windows 7 with this. When I connect the USB-receiver, Windows is trying to install it but gives me the error message: "no driver found". I tried to download SetPoint 4.80, but that didn't help. I have rebooted the computer several of times, tried different USB'ports, and have allso tried menye different mouses from Logitech. Non of this works. Have someone any suggestions for how I can fix my problem?

• How do I get Windows 7 To Recognize a newly installed RAID 5 volume?

  I had a previously running Windows 7 (64 bit) system. I added 3 new 1TB Seagate drives that I set up as a RAID 5 volume. I have a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 motherboard. I installed the drives, set up the BIOS and configured the three drives as a RAID volume through the RAID setup utility that was accessed via Ctrl-I while the system was booting. I rebooted the system and could see the drives during the boot sequence. However, when Windows 7 was starting I got an error (quick blue screen) and then Windows tried to repair itself with no success. Do I need to install RAID drivers in Windows? How do I do it if Windows won't boot? Thanks in advance.

  I'm in the process of installing Windows 7/64 on a system with Windows XP/32 on it. During my research, I read about a problem that occurs in the dual boot scenario where Windows XP deletes Windows 7's restore points when it accesses the Windows 7 volume: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185 I found a workaround but it seems pretty painful since it appears to involve using the registry to make the Windows 7 volume appear invisible or "offline" to Windows XP, making sharing disk data between the two O/S annoying since you have to use something like an external storage device to get it done: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/127417-system-restore-points-stop-xp-dual-boot-delete.html I was wondering if this problem only occurs with systems that have both O/S installed on the same physical hard drive (in different partitions)?   Hello, I have a server that is running Windows 2008 64 bit Hyper-V, with 8 gigs of RAM and Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53 Ghz, which gives me 8 logical cores in the performance monitor on the host system. I have set up three Virtual Machines, all running Windows 2008 32 bit. Build server, running Team City Staging server SQL Server, running SQL Server 2005 I have some troubles with the setup in that the host monitor remains responsive at all times, even though the VM's are seemingly working at 100% cpu and are very sluggish and unresponsive. (I have asked a separate question about that.) So the question here is: What is the best way to monitor how the physical CPU's are actually utilized? The reason I am asking is that I am being told that i cannot reliably use the task manager to monitor CPU usage in a VM.

  I installed the Driver v3.04A from Epson's Web site -- epson12180.exe that is supposedly for Windows 7. Now, the scanner works by itself, i.e. if I hit the scan button I get a dialog menu and can scan with one of the options there but not with Adobe Acrobat. What I need is to have it working from Adobe Acrobat when I go File - Create PDF - From Scanner - Custom Scan... The current state is that I see Scanner: "Please select a device" and no other available devices. I remember I used to see at least 2 other like "WIA Epson Perfection" and smth like "Epson Perfection". "WIA Epson Perfection" is the option that I am hoping to see to move on.   I recently purchased a copy of Windows 7 online. Upon trying to install, it stopped and I was told that it could not find a 64 bit driver for my CD/DVD and I could not finish install. I contacted Microsoft and was told that this was something called an MSDN version according to the product key and that was the reason for the problem. They also said is was illegal to sell it to me. The company I bought it from never returned my calls or emails and luckily I got money back through Amazon. Amazon didn't even want me to send it back. Anyway my question is, is there anyway to load this onto my system and will I have problems or should I just throw it out? Any help would be great. Thanks

• KVM-Guests can't get past bridge - no internet connection

  I'm running a backported KVM on a Debian Squeeze. ATM the KVM-Guest can't connect to the internet through the bridge I have set up. The guests can reach each other, the host but nothing outside. I can neither ping, nslookup or do anything to a remote address. The guest are configured to have a static IP. When I didn;t have the bridge but a virtual bridge (the KVM-default) the guest could connect fine. • Browser won't connect to svn server

  This has been driving me nuts. For some reason, I can't access my svn repository using a browser in this laptop that I'm using right now (firefox & ie) The connection just times out. I'm at home right now and the server is in another room. It connects OK there and it also connects OK in my virtual machine in this same laptop. I'm pretty stumped right now and can't figure out why this is happening. I've also checked the proxies and I'm 100% sure I'm not using any at all.   Hi! I would like to know what 64-bit Linux distribution can I use with an Intel ICH10R RAID. I have tried CentOS 5.2 and Ubuntu Server 8.04. Neither support that raid controller. Also, I would like to know where do I setup the RAID-5 I want to use. I am using a TYAN S7002 motherboard and the BIOS software does not include an option to configure the RAID as I am used to do with Dell servers... Thanks a lot in advance.
