  • Setting user's group and umask has no effect

    I'm trying to allow my "deploy" user to have access to files created by www-data: I added "deploy" to the www-data group. I set umask to 002. Or, how to share the /var/www directory with my deploy user: I don't care who owns it, as long as I can write to it, and so can www-data. (Ideally I would set up a directory with SGID access for www-data.)

    I have recently installed 4Gb of ram for an existing 12.04 32bit Ubuntu.   • Ubuntu 10.04 and fedora 14 grub conflict

    I tried to triple boot Windows xp, Fedora 14 and Ubuntu 10.04. I first installed Windows xp, then fedora followed by Ubuntu. The problem is that i don't get option to boot Ubuntu while Xp boots fine. It seems Ubuntu was unable to replace Fedora's grub with its own at MBR. Looking at their grub conf file, Fedora and Ubuntu identifies same harddisk as two different devices and i do have another 80 GB harddisk which doesn't have any OS.   • Why ubuntu does not use the kernels installed by automatic update?

    I used the script describe in this question to list the kernel installed on the computer : How do I to remove or hide old kernel versions, to clean up the boot menu? In the 3.2.0, I have 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 41, 43, 44, 45 and 48. I would expect to be running 3.2.0-48 after a reboot, but I am still running 3.2.0-32. Why the kernels installed by auto update are not used? [I am running 12.04 LTS] /boot/grub/menu.lst was modified for the last time June 16 2013, it contains 3.2.0-32-generic 2.6.32-45-generic 2.6.32-44-generic 2.6.32-43-generic A recovery for each of those and a memtest. I would have expected the kernel between 3.2.0-33 to 3.2.0-48 to be in this file before 3.2.0-32.

  • Photo gallery for Blogspot blog

    I don't think this is entirely possible, but here we go: I have a friend who has a Blogspot blog. He has posts with text, posts with videos and posts with photos... and he was wondering if there's any way to turn the posts which are just photos into a thumbnail gallery screen on his blog. So for example, let's say he has 20 photo posts on his blog with the label Skiing Holiday 2009 (horrible example, I know). Is there a way of having a post created for his blog that displays those photos as thumbnails, linking through to their full size versions? I just don't think it's possible, but I'm really hoping someone will be able to offer a solution (or even a place where I could find a solution). Thanks a lot.

  • When are SQL views appropriate in ASP.net MVC?

    I've got a table called Protocol, a table called Eligibility, and a Protocol_Eligibilty table that maps the two together (a many to many relationship). If I wanted to make a perfect copy of an entry in the Protocol table, and create all the needed mappings in the Protocol_Eligibility table, would using an SQL view be helpful, from a performance standpoint? Protocol will have around 1000 rows, Eligibility will have about 200, and I expect each Protocol to map to about 10 Eligibility rows and each Eligibility to map to over 100 rows in Protocol.   • Using Silverlight for Views in ASP.Net MVC - a bad idea?

    I'm currently writing a small application for use internally at my office. I started out teaching myself some MVC (I've been a C# dev for 3 years). One of the main requirements is editable grids - I quickly realised that silverlight (i have zero silverlight experience) could be a big help in this. I've managed to create a proof of concept of getting MVC and silverlight to talk back an forth by combining these two techniques: Creating a Rest API using MVC MVC SilverLight I also got some help on stackoverflow: silverlight-grids-mvc-http-post Essentially all I'm doing is embedding a silver light object in a view. Serializing the Model data as JSON and passing it to silverlight(using intit params written into the response). The silverlight object can post data back to the controller as JSON. So far this seems like it could work quite well. However I am a bit concerned that I could be painting myself into a corner with this approach, as in I don't have much experience with either technology so I'm worried I'm going get hit with something further down the line that I won't be able to work around. Has anybody else tried doing this? Any advice would be much appreciated!

  • How can I detect device orientation going back and forth through tabs and views?

    My application goes back and forth between Portrait and Landscape. I have all of my content(labels, uiimageviews, uilabels) lined up to relocate for both orientations. However, the only change when the device is actually rotated. When I cycle between tabs after it has been rotated it just shows up autosized and not the way I have it setup when the user rotates it. How can I detect the orientation of the device and display the view to reflect the orientation when the taps different tabs?

  • How can we change views in a UISplitViewController other than using the popover and selecting?

    I have done a sample app with UISplitViewController studying the example they have provided. I have created three detailviews and have configured them to change by the default means. Either using the left/master view in landscape AND using the popover in the portrait orientation. Now I am trying to move to another view(previous/next) from the currentView by using left/right swipe in each view. For that, what I did was just created a function in the RootViewController. I copy-pasted the same code as that of the tablerow selection used by the popover from the RootViewController. I am calling this function from my current view's controller and is passing the respective index of the view(to be displayed next) from the current view. Function is being called but nothing is happening. Plz help me OR is anyother way to do it other than this complex step?   • getView only shows Flagged Backgrounds for drawn Views, It does not show Flagged Background when scroll to view more items on list

    I am trying to create a listview that receives a flagged list of items to indicate a status to the user. I have been able to create the flag display by using a yellow background (see image at bottom). In Theory, the flagged list can have many flagged items in it. However in my app, only the first three flagged backgrounds are shown. I believe this is because they are initially drawn to the screen. The Flagged background that are not drawn initially to the screen do not show. I'd like to know how to get the remaining flags to show in the list. ListView Recycling: The backgrounds in the listView are being recycled in getView(). This recycling goes from position 0 to position 9. I have flags that need to match at positions 13, 14 and so on. Those positions are not being displayed. listView.getCheckedItemPositions() for multiple selections: This method will not work in my case because the user will not selected the flags. The flags are coming from the server. setNotifyOnChange() and/or public virtual void SetNotifyOnChange (bool notifyOnChange): I'm not adding new data to the list, so I don't see how this method would work for my program. Does this method communicate to getview when it is recycling data?     For now I use some mix between virtual_env, pip and Fabric. This allows to: install required libs; generate dynamic content; isolate installation; push everything through ssh. It works well, I just want to know if there are other tools around. The only problem I could think of is that it's a lot of to set up every time. It doesn't solve database / media files migration issues either, but maybe I should just open another question for this specific subject. Eventually, I don't know how to automatize the server setup. The remote does not. I want the transmitter to work so it can automatically change the channel on the cable box and find the video I wanted to record. The LIRC sources are not on Ubuntu sources and so I can only guess at what commands I might have to use. How do I resolve the error and get the remote working?

    I use a dual boot with two hard disks and two OS is Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7. Windows 7 installed on the first disk, first partition. Grub is installed on a second hard disk MBR, and Ubuntu installed on an extended partition on a second hard drive. When I select Windows 7 on the Grub menu, the HDD lamp lights up briefly and then black screen on the monitor, with the status of the keyboard is still functioning. So if someone looks up the leads by company they can see all leads across all events, but also see all leads by event. Not sure if this is ownership versus a where?
