• CVS gives error files fail to update, but they are updated on the server

  We are using CVSNT on machine running Windows XP Pro. After using it for more than 5 years, today we have an issue with CVS. When we try to update a subdirectory in a repository, some of the files failed to update with message "Permission denied" and some files fail with the message "ABC.java is no longer in the repository". But when we login to the CVS machine itself and browse the subdirectory, we can see the files are there. We have checked the Windows folder permissions and they seem correct.

• Ubuntu won't suspend anymore, but it did upon install.

  I fresh installed Ubuntu 10.10 back when it came out, and my laptop was suspending fine. All of a sudden, I can't get my laptop to suspend anymore. It's an HP Pavilion dv2-1110, but I don't think it's a hardware issue, here's why: It suspended fine upon first install. I haven't installed any new kernels since then, but I have installed tons of packages, so it's probably a package. The suspend and hibernate options disappeared from the shutdown menu. If I press my keyboard's suspend button (or if I close the lid) I get the following message: If I try the command pmi action suspend, I get the error message: Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.Hal was not provided by any .service files. If I try the command echo -n mem > sudo /sys/power/state I get absolutely no output and no visible effect. What might be causing this behavior? I thought a list of installed packages might be useful, but it's huge and I don't know how to post it here in collapse/expand mode or something. EDIT:Just in case someone asks, none of the installed packages are kdm or anything like that (which would justify the lack of options in gnome's shutdown menu).

• Outlook rules not working together

  I have multiple Outlook (2010) rules and these 2 are having issues together: Rule 1: Apply this rule after the message arrives with blahname in the sender's address and move it to the BlahBox folder. Rule 2: Apply this rule after the message arrives from [email protected] move it to the NoReply folder. If I have rule 1 above rule 2, only rule 1 works (noreply emails stay in the Inbox folder). If I swap and have rule 2 above rule 1, only rule 2 works (blahname emails stay in the Inbox folder). What am I doing wrong; how can I fix this so it applies both rules on incoming email? I'm fairly certain the two rules should never intersect (blahname != domain.com). Also I do not have "this computer only" checked on any rules, I avoid client-only rules.

• Postfix / Dovecot and Email Retrieval

  I have setup Postfix and Dovecot on an Ubuntu box following the instructions http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ I can see that email is being delivered to and accepted by the server, but the email is not available for retrieval via POP3. What could be missing in my configuraton? It seems that email is not being properly handed off to Dovecot. • Unable to delete all partitions on flash drive using Windows 7 OS??

  Recently I purchased an ADATA C802 8GB flash drive. Since the drive was new I decided to run some of the HD Tune Pro (v4.50) performance tests on it, mostly just for the heck of it. To avoid accidently destroying data HD Tune refuses to write to a drive unless there are no partitions on the drive. If you do attempt to write to a drive with partitions, it posts the message "Writing is disabled. To enable writing please remove all partitions." As you would expect, the ADATA came formatted with a single primary FAT32 partition in the Master Boot Record. But a number of unexpected things happened when I attempted to delete that partition. The first thing I tried was to use the Windows 7 (64-bit) Disk Management tool (diskmgmt.msc) to delete the partition. It would not let me. The context menu choice to delete that volume was not available. Next I opened up a command prompt window with Admin authority and ran diskpart. Diskpart deleted the volume for me. However, when I attempted to run an HD Tune write test on the drive I still got the "Writing is disabled" message. Huh??? So I fired up a utility I have which allows viewing drives at the sector level and verified that the partition table in the Master Boot Record was empty. No partitions. Yet HD Tune still thought there were partitions on the drive? So why was I still getting the "Writing is disabled" message from HD Tune Pro? And why wouldn't the Windows 7 Disk Management tool let me change the partitions on this drive. After doing the above, I plugged the ADATA into my MacBook. I was then able to format it as either a GPT or MBR partitioned drive with no problems. I am not looking for suggestions on how to format this drive. I can do that. What I do not understand and was hoping I might get insight into is why this drive behaves so strangely under Windows 7? And BTW, what's up with HD Tune Pro? BTW, if I plug the drive I formatted on my MacBook back into my Windows 7 64-bit system I still run into road blocks with the Disk Management tool. For example, I cannot delete all the GPT partitions on the ADATA so I can convert it into an MBR drive. I following Microsoft's instructions, the instructions just do not work with this ADATA flash drive. Anyone know what's up with this? It makes no sense to me. Has something changed in Windows 7 (Vista)??

• Lighttpd not starting - no error

  I recently installed Lighttpd on Ubuntu Server 10.04 x86_64 and created several websites. What I do is include /etc/lighttpd/vhost.d/*.conf and put a configuration file for each website in that directory. The problem I have is when I "service lighttpd start" I get the message that the service started, there is no error message: root@178-33-104-210:~# service lighttpd start Syntax OK * Starting web server lighttpd [ OK ] But then if I take a look at the services listening, Lighttpd is nowhere to be seen: root@178-33-104-210:~# netstat -tap Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 localhost:mysql *:* LISTEN 829/mysqld tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN 737/vsftpd tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 739/sshd tcp6 0 0 [::]:ssh [::]:* LISTEN 739/sshd So I'm looking at ways I could troubleshoot this. I checked in /var/log/lighttpd/error.log and there's nothing in it. Edit: Sorry, I indicated I use CentOS but it's actually Ubuntu Server (I usually use CentOS but had to go with Ubuntu for that one).

• Firefox freezes frequently

  Good day, The application Firefox freezes very frequently and I have to use 'force quit" to get out and hence I lose all my activities and it is extremely frustrating. Only in one occasion, there was a pop-out message saying that this problem was going to be tracked but in all other occasions there is no tracking and no message I posted this error on Ubuntu community and it was stopped and I was told to post it on launchpad. I did try to do so with no success as after reading pages and pages which i really do not understand who would read them and why so many ridiculous and tedious rules and information, i even could not find the place or the way to post this bug. And I thought of this ASkUBUNTU and so i am posting here in the hope for some useful help and I have to mention I am new to Linux. Just a few minutes ago, I opened the Firefox through the Terminal and it crashed very quickly and there are some error messages and i copy and paste them hoping they can help thank you in advance and look forward to your help and solving this frustrating problem/bug and if you wish you may post it on Launchpad or do with report as you wish as long as the problem is solved.   a user in out Company has 2 mail-addresses on one Exchange-Mailbox. e.g test@... and test1@... the Primary SMTP-address off the Mailbox is test@. If I send a message to test1@, load it using EWS and parse through the TORecipients-Collection there is exactly one emailadress. But the mailaddress EWS gives to me is test@... and not test1@... where I sent the mail. My problem is, that all mails sent to test@ should be imported in our CRM using my program. All mails sent to test1@... must not be imported. In real life both mailaddresses are from my Boss. One is used for normal purposes the other one is for confidential e.g. from his lawyer. Does anyone know how I can get the real-emailaddress the message was sent to?

  We are in the process of migrating from our old domain to a new one, part of which involves migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. A bunch of users have been migrated already without problems. However, one of the users is having trouble receiving emails from others. When someone sends to him, they get an Undeliverable NDR that says "A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients." The message shows the user's distinguished name as /OU=OurDomain/CN=Recipients/CN=USER57137172. The user's account name should just be "USER", so I don't know where the extra numbers ("57137172") are coming from. Thanks in advance.

But once you get into it and your database schema becomes a little more solidified, the things that would have been easy to do by relying on the conventions of Rails require a little bit more work.In my case, I had a form where there was a database column named “num_guests”, representing the number of guests. When the field fails to pass validation, the error messages is something likeNum guests is not a numberNot quite the text that we want. • How can I change exim's DKIM and SPF for emails sent?

  I've now spent 2 hours trying to figure out this issue and I am about to give up and go to bed. I've been having issues with Gmail rejecting emails from my VPS server because of false spam alerts (probably caused by lfd sending too many emails). So I changed my Exim config to send emails from a different IP (my VPS comes with 3) and that fixed the issue. I also enabled DKIM and SPF on my domains for added measure. But now, all my emails appear as ("From: Sender Name via server.domain1.com") where server.domain1.com is my VPS hostname. I previously had the same issue in Outlook and turning off "Set SMTP Sender: headers" solved that problem. But I believe adding the DKIM and SPF now makes Gmail add "via server.domain1.com" to my messages. How do I fix this?   I wrote a tool that sends automated mails to a couple of addresses. This worked for a couple of weeks. Now since yesterday I get Mailer-Daemon responses like this Hi. This is the qmail-send program at test.test2.net. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out. testuser@domain.com: Connected to 123.456.789.10 but greeting failed. Remote host said: 554 foo.bar.com I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long. Does someone have an idea what I can do now?

Thanks Additional: As suggested I run this in terminal: cd /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build/include/linux sudo ln -s ../generated/utsrelease.h sudo ln -s ../generated/autoconf.h sudo ln -s ../generated/uapi/linux/version.h However, now I get the following: Before you can run VMware, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the kernel CANCEL / INSTALL I INSTALL, the window closes and nothing happens.... Any ideas? ADDITIONAL: I installed this: sudo apt-get install open-vm-tools open-vm-tools-dev open-vm-dkms open-vm-toolbox open-vm-tools-dev And it all launched... • scary islamic messages on mouse in libreoffice - a virus?

  This is weird. Today I opened an excel file with libre office. Suddenly I saw the mouse changed color, and stuck to it was a message in Arabic, which changed every second in a loop. I can actually read Arabic so I immediatly recognized it as Islamic messages praising Allah (including the Takbir). Here's a screenshot: At first I thought this was something with the file, but then I saw that this happens with any libre office program (but only libre-office programs), and even when they're open, it only changes the mouse when it's hovering over the libre program, and goes back to normal anywhere else. Also, re-installing did not help. I tried running software updater - but I got an error where it couldn't load some steam repositories, but that seems like a coincidence: Failed to fetch http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/dists/precise/steam/i18n/Translation-en_US Failed to fetch http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/dists/precise/steam/i18n/Translation-en Here's another hint - I tried taking several screenshots of several messages, but they all ended up showing the same message (the one above). Hopefully that means anything. I should note I haven't installed anything fishy lately, and I hardly ever use libre office at all (I prefer Google Drive whenever I need to work with documents), so I'm really unsure as to how this happened. Anyway, this is scary. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Disk boot failure in Windows 7 64-bit after installing the latest NVIDIA drivers

  I successfully installed the newest NVIDIA drivers (275.33) in Windows 7 64-bit and rebooted afterwards just in case. After the reboot, I got an error about missing MBR. I disconnected the slave disk so that Windows doesn't get confused and got this message: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER It seems that Windows doesn't recognize the main disk anymore. I booted from Windows install disk but the main disk doesn't get listed as possible Windows locations to repair, and I can't get to it from the recovery prompt. The BIOS does recognize it, and I'm able to see it if I run diskpart - however "detail disk" in diskpart says that there are no volumes on the disk. I also tried bootrec /FixMbr without effect, and bootrec /FixBoot which gives the error message: Element not found. What else can I do? Why would diskpart say there are no volumes on the disk?

Possible causes: Apparently not using open and closing curly brackets in an IF statement would cause this. Well turns out this is not the case. • Outlook 2010 Error

  I'm running Outlook 2010 SP1 on Windows 7 x64 SP1, and I'm getting an error message saying "Your Microsoft Exchange administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that you are using. Contact your administrator for assistance." I'm still able to log into my account using Outlook Web Access (OWA), so I know that my account is working just fine. Outlook 2010 with Service Pack 1 is the standard for Windows 7 client systems at this organization, and other people are able to access their e-mail just fine. When my account was initially configured, I was able to use Outlook for a couple of days, and then it suddenly stopped working, providing only the above error message. Do you have any ideas on what I should look into to resolve this problem? Is there any information I can obtain on the client side that will help the Exchange folks investigate the issue further? Is there any verbose logging I can enable, or diagnostic logging in Outlook? Cheers

• Cannot install Ubuntu on an Acer Aspire One 756

  I have used Ubuntu before, in virtual machines, but today I decided to make the leap and I bought a netbook to install Ubuntu as a "real" OS alongside Windows. The netbook I bought is an Acer Aspire One 756, with a 64-bit Intel processor, 4GB RAM, and Windows 8 as the default OS. I have now encountered several obstacles that actually prevent me from installing Ubuntu 12.10. Here are all the things I have tried so far: Used a live CD, in combination with a USB DVD drive. (I should point out that the Aspire One does not have an optical drive.) The computer does not boot in Ubuntu; the drive keeps spinning, but nothing happens, even though I changed the boot order in the BIOS. Used a USB drive created via the tool available on pendrivelinux.com. Again, I've made changes to the BIOS to make sure the computer tries to boot from USB before using the built-in HDD. The results vary in this case: sometimes, the computer keeps rebooting like crazy until I remove the USB drive, at which point the computer boots into Windows 8, as expected. If I use a different USB drive, I get an error message that says that the USB drive has been blocked due to "the current security policy". Tried to install Ubuntu via Wubi. The program appears to install something, but at some point during the installation process, I get a non-specified error message and nothing else happens. I am not sure if these are known issues; in any case, searching the forum has not yielded any results, so I thought I should simply describe my problem here in the hope that this question has not been answered before. I would greatly appreciate any help with this annoying problem. Of course, if anything is unclear, do not hesitate to ask for further details.

• How should I host our scalable worker processes?

  We are designing a new architecture for an enterprise business. The principles we've followed so far is not to develop what you can (possible buy and) deploy, ie, don't reinvent any wheels. In this way we've decided on CQRS, RabbitMQ, Riak and a bunch of other things. We still need to write /some/ business code though and these will be in the form of worker processes, which will consume commands from a message queue and after any side-effects, produce events onto another message queue. The idea behind this is that via the competing-consumers design we will have a scalable design right out of the box. One option is of writing a management infrastructure that will know how to: deploy code instantiate processes kill processes update configuration etc IE provide fault tolerance and scalability. Also, this is exactly what something like GAE and Heroku does for you, but in a public setting and in our organization, public is bad. My question is, is there an out-of-the-box solution that we can use to host our consumers in? Like a private cloud or private platform-as-a-service. Private Heroku or GAE. Is there some kind of software or software product with which we can do all of these things and thereby get scalability and fault tolerance over our consumers?
