• How can I make a collection of mini-games in XNA where the user can download packs of minigames and the main .exe can run them without being altered?

  I'm currently making a PC game in XNA. It's actually a collection of mini-games (there's 3 mini-games at the moment) however I plan to make and add more, in downloadable 'packs'. My question is, what's the best way to achieve this? Currently my thoughts are: Create a 'game' interface Build games to this interface but create them as .dlls Have the main .exe file scan a directory and load in the .dlls at runtime. I've not messed around with the idea much, but I know there are applications at-least that use this plug-in approach (Notepad++ seems to), but I'm not sure of any games that do (although I'm sure they must exist). However it seems that this is a problem that has been solved previously, so I'm wondering if there's any form of established best-practice.

  You know this problem ... take Super Mario Bros. for example. When Mario/Luigi/etc. comes in proximity with a nearing pipe image an invisible boundary setter must prevent him from continuing forward movement. However, when you jump and move both x and y you are coordinately moving in two dimensions at an exact time. When nearing the pipe in mid-air as you are falling, i.e. implementation of gravity in the computer program "pulling" the image back down, and you do not want them to get "stuck" in both falling and moving. That problem is solved, but how about this one: The player controlling the ball object is attempting to jump and move rightwards over the non-stationary block that moves up and down. How could we measure its top and lower x+y components to determine the safest way for the ball to accurately either fall back down, or catch the ledge, or get pushed down under it, etc.?

  So, I recently purchased a new 23" monitor for my PC. However, I can't use it with the PC currently as I am waiting on a replacement heatsink. In the mean time, I wanted to use it with my Dell laptop. I hooked it up to the VGA port, and it seems to be working properly. However, I wanted to know if there was a way I could move all of the main display elements over to the attached monitor? I wanted to shut the LCD panel off on the laptop and hook it up like a desktop. Relevant specs: Ubuntu 10.10 x64 Intel graphics chipset The attached monitor is currently set as the default monitor. Any suggestions are welcome. :)

• What is the best freeware app for Windows to mount EXT4 partitions (from a GPT 4TB Disk) as RW, safely without corrupting the EXT4 partition?

  My Computer is set up as Dualboot Windows and Ubuntu. I have 1 OS drive, and 1 hard drive with a /backup partition (which has all my family photos and data) and it is ext4. Also note... it is EXT4, and it is GPT, and it is 4TB size. Anyway, Windows can not mount the /backup ext4 partition. What software/freeware do you reccomend for Windows? Preferrably looking for someone with experiance using it for a long time and not have problems with EXT4 partition which is a 4TB, GPT Disk. Thank you for your advice and guidance! • Is it possible to export Windows event logs from multiple servers to a non-windows host, without running event manager on each of the Windows servers?

  I want to export event logs from Windows to a non-Windows host. I was considering using Logstash, but that would seem to require that I install and run Logstash on each server. Is it possible to do this without having to run it on all of the servers? I am hoping to be able to consolidate all of the information from different servers to make searching and reporting much easier. If not, what would you recommend is the best way to export to a non-Windows host in real time? Thank you.

  Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista have this deal where zone information is preserved in downloaded files to NTFS partitions, such that it blocks certain files in certain applications until you "unblock" the files. So for example if you download a zip file of source code to try something out, every file will display this in the security settings of the file properties "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer" Along with an "Unblock" button. Some programs don't care, but Visual Studio will refuse to load projects in solutions until they've been unblocked. While it's not terribly difficult to go to every project file and unblock it individually, it's a pain. And it does not appear you can unblock multiple selected files simultaneously. Is there any way to unblock all files in a directory without having to go to them all individually? I know you can turn this off globally for all new files but let's say I don't want to do that

  Does replacing chrome User Data with my own - works without leaving any trace behind? Where else chrome writes data outside of User Data folder? I used to start office work by removing chrome User Data, replacing it with my own User Data copied from my external drive, saving the original User Data to other folder. Before leaving in the evening, I will take back my own User Data, and bring back the original User Data where it is originally saved. Is this process advisable? Would I be safe this way or if not, where else does chrome save data outside of User Data folder in AppData? Also, how is the process in Mozilla Firefox?

  Is there some way to change the permissions recursively on a series of directories without getting a dialog box that pops up and tells me it can't change the permissions on a particular file? I keep getting this dialogs multiple times duing the process of changing permissions: An error occurred while applying security information to: C:\pagefile.sys The process cannot access the file because it is being used another process. Eventually I get so many of them that I start clicking the mouse or pressing the space bar so many times that I accidentally click the cancel button. Also it would be great if I could keep a log of which files it can't change permissions on. Is this possible in Windows 7? Does it have to be done from the command prompt or from powershell?

I've scoured the Internet looking for answers all day, but to no avail. Does anyone have ANY insight into what is causing my problems.

  The definition of "Free Software" from the Free Software Foundation: “Free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer.” Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it means that the program's users have the four essential freedoms: The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0). The freedom to study how the program works, and change it to make it do what you wish (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this. The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2). The freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others (freedom 3). By doing this you can give the whole community a chance to benefit from your changes. Access to the source code is a precondition for this. A program is free software if users have all of these freedoms.   In Nautilus if I press CTRL+F I get a search box that helps me search in the current directory and sub directories for specific names, but what if I want to: Find ALL files (including files without extensions) Find a file without an extension (Without the dot symbol or without any other name/extension separator) Find a file with/without a special character Find all files that start/not start with a character Find all files that end/not end with a character Find all files that start/no start with a character but end/not end with a character Find only files/folders Find files with specific text in them Find files with less/more/equal than/to X size Find files modified/created in X date All of this searches in the Nautilus search box I mentioned before. I ask this since the KDE's search is much better in this and gives pretty good freedom in searching for virtually anything, so I might not be learning how to use the Nautilus search option correctly. Note that I am talking about the first search done since some of this options show AFTER a search is done so the user can narrow it down more by doing a more specific search inside the Search results (for the first search). I am asking here how to do any of the search options I mentioned above in the first search.

  As a soon-to-be software engineer, I have studied some languages during my time in college. I can name C, C++, Java, Scheme, Ruby, PHP, for example. However, one of the main principles in my college (recognized by many as the best in my country) is to teach us how to learn for ourselves and how to search the web when we have a doubt. This leads to a proactive attitude, when I need something, I go get it and this has worked so far for me. Recently, I started wondering though, how much development would I be able to do without internet access. The answer bugged me quite a bit. I know the concept of the languages, mostly I know what to do, but I was amazed by how "slow" things were without having the google to help in the development. The problem was mostly related to specific syntax but it was not without some effort that i solved some of the SPOJ problems in C++. Is this normal? Should I be worried and try to change something in my programming behaviour? UPDATE: I'll give a concrete example. Reading and writing to a file in java. I have done this about a dozen times in my life, yet every time I need to do it, I end up googling "read file java" and refreshing my memory. I completely understand the code, i fully understand what it does. But I am sure, that without google, it would take me a few tries to read and write correctly (if I had to sit in front of the screen with a blank page and write this without consulting any source whatsoever).

All answers about storing passwords say we should store only hashes, not the password themselves. But I'm having a hard time searching the web trying to find the best techniques to store passwords when we know we will need them in plain text later on — without storing them in plain text, without using a weak encryption (known key) and without asking the user for a master password. Any ideas?

Also, how to perform administrative actions (such as sudo or downloading apps from Ubuntu Software Center) without password? How to remove the password entirely from my admin accounts? Note: In Windows 7, when you do not set a password or remove the existing password for an administrator, that administrator can be used to authenticate without a password.
