  • Is there performance to be gained by moving storage allocation local to a member function to its cla

    Suppose I have the following C++ class: class Foo { double bar(double sth); }; double Foo::bar(double sth) { double a,b,c,d,e,f a = b = c = d = e = f = 0; /* do stuff with a..f and sth */ } The function bar() will be called millions of times in a loop. Obviously, each time it's called, the variables a..f have to be allocated. Will I gain any performance by making the variables a..f members of the Foo class and just initializing them at the function's point of entry? On the other hand, the values of a..f will be dereferenced through this-, so I'm wondering if it isn't actually a possible performance degradation. Is there any overhead to accessing a value through a pointer? Thanks!

    I was trying to split a string on non-alphanumeric characters or simple put I want to split words. The approach that immediately came to my mind is to use regular expressions. Example: $string = 'php_php-php php'; $splitArr = preg_split('/[^a-z0-9]/i', $string); But there are two problems that I see with this approach. It is not a native php function, and is totally dependent on the PCRE Library running on server. An equally important problem is that what if I have punctuation in a word Example: $string = 'U.S.A-men's-vote'; $splitArr = preg_split('/[^a-z0-9]/i', $string); Now this will spilt the string as [{U}{S}{A}{men}{s}{vote}] But I want it as [{U.S.A}{men's}{vote}] So my question is that: How can we split them according to words? Is there a possibility to do it with php native function or in some other way where we are not dependent? Regards

So I put a NSLog in main() function like this to measure loading time from first: int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { NSLog(@"main"); NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; int retVal = UIApplicationMain(argc, argv, nil, nil); [pool release]; return retVal; } But, the log displayed at really later time. Default.png displayed about 5 seconds, all loading process completed in 1~2 seconds after log appeared. What's happening before executing main() function on iPhone app?

Or is it better (and why) to do it like this: function method = function(){ return this.foo; } function A(){ this.foo = 1; this.method = method; } var a = new A(); Or are the javascript engines smart enough not to create a new 'method' function every time? Specifically Google's v8 and node.js. Also, any general recommendations on when to use which technique are welcome. In my specific example, it really suits me to use the first example, but I know thath the outer function will be instantiated many times.

    I am trying to code a function for a camera that orbits a point. Assume a 3d coordinate plane where Z is up. Ignore Z. Let's say the camera's position starts at (0, 0, z). The object to orbit is at, say (50, 50, z). So we have a distance of ~70 units. Calling the function with {(50, 50, z), 70, x} where x is the position in orbit, in radians, should return where the position of the camera should be. I believe this involves cos and tan but my trig isn't that great... point3d getCameraPosition(point3d objectPosition, float distance, float rotationRadians) { // ??? }

    Hi, I cannot for the life of me figure this out, maybe someone can help. Using MODX a form takes user criteria to create a filter and return a list of documents. The form is one text field and a few checkboxes. If both text field and checkbox data is posted, the function works fine; if just the checkbox data is posted the function works fine; but if just the text field data is posted, modx gives me the following error: Error: implode() [function.implode]: Invalid arguments passed. I've tested this outside of modx with flat files and it all works fine leading me to assume a bug exists within modx. But I'm not convinced.     I have a piece of C code that is used from a C++ function. At the top of my C++ file I have the line: #include "prediction.h" In prediction.h I have this: #ifndef prediction #define prediction #include "structs.h" typedef struct { double estimation; double variance; } response; response runPrediction(int obs, location* positions, double* observations, int targets, location* targetPositions); #endif I also have prediction.c, which has: #include "prediction.h" response runPrediction(int obs, location* positions, double* observations, int targets, location* targetPositions) { // code here } Now, in my C++ file (which as I said includes prediction.h) I call that function, then compile (through Xcode) I get this error: "runPrediction(int, location*, double*, int, location*)", referenced from: mainFrame::respondTo(char*, int)in mainFrame.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status prediction.c is marked for compilation for the current target. I don't have any problems with other .cpp files not being compiled. Any thoughts here?

  • Execute a dll function in ASP.Net Bin not working, II7.

    I am developing a remote control application where a client (aspx page in a browser) can request a server to "launch a notepad" (for testing purpose, for real life, turning off a light bulb, etc). So I created a dll with a simple function for launching the notepad (on the server side) and dropped this dll in the root bin folder. It worked fine when the aspx page is running under ASP.NET development server (launched from Visual Studio). But when I tested the same aspx page under a FireFox browser, it did not work (launch the notepad) even though it did call for the same function (I stepped through in debugger). Is this a permission issue? How do I set this up in IIS manager, or even better in web.config? Please help.

    I have a strange problem that probably have a really simple explanation that i've just havn't found. I'm making a WordPress plugin and i want to use jQuery in my settings-page for the plugin. My JS functions look like this: jQuery(document).ready(function() { alert('load test'); //ADMIN FUNCTION $('#mrc_imp_img').click(function(){ alert("test"); }); //FRONT END FUNCTION $("ul.mrc li").hover(function() { $(this).find('p').fadeIn(); } , function() { $(this).find('p').fadeOut(); }); }); The "load test"-alert is being loaded when the document is ready so jquery is properly loaded. The front end function is being used on pages and that's working fine to. the problem is the admin function, it's not working at all. is there a speial way i have to write a .click()-function to get it to work on my settings-page for the wordpress plugin?

  • How do I know this function is return empty..and how do I show it??

  • R matrix handling expressions aren't evaluated in a function or a "for" loop - Column extract doesn't seem to work

    I have an R matrix named ddd. When I enter this, everything works fine: i <- 1 shapiro.test(ddd[,y]) ad.test(ddd[,y]) stem(ddd[,y]) print(y) The calls to Shapiro Wilk, Anderson Darling, and stem all work, and extract the same column. If I put this code in a "for" loop, the calls to Shapiro Wilk, and Anderson Darling stop working, while the the stem & leaf call and the print call continue to work. for (y in 7:10) { shapiro.test(ddd[,y]) ad.test(ddd[,y]) stem(ddd[,y]) print(y) } The decimal point is 1 digit(s) to the right of the | 0 | 0 0 | 899999 1 | 0 [1] 7 The same thing happens if I try and write a function. SW & AD do not work. The other calls do. D <- function (y) { + shapiro.test(ddd[,y]) + ad.test(ddd[,y]) + stem(ddd[,y]) + print(y) } D(9) The decimal point is at the | 9 | 000 9 | 10 | 00000 [1] 9 Why don't all the calls behave the same way?
