  • Different block sizes for partition and underlying logical disk on HP Raid Controller (Linux)

    Following links collected in this thread I started to check blockdev and found the following output indicating different sizes for partition c0d9p1 and the underlying device (c0d9): [root@machine ~]# blockdev --report /dev/cciss/c0d9 RO RA SSZ BSZ StartSec Size Device rw 256 512 4096 0 3906963632 /dev/cciss/c0d9 [root@machine ~]# blockdev --report /dev/cciss/c0d9p1 RO RA SSZ BSZ StartSec Size Device rw 256 512 2048 1 3906959039 /dev/cciss/c0d9p1 We have a lot of small files, so yes the block size is smaller than normal. The device is a logical driver on an HP P410 raid controller, simple disk without any raid - RAID 0 on one disk to be precise. (Please note that above configuration is a feature not a bug). Therefore, I have the following questions. Can the above discrepancy in the block size affect disk performance? Can I control the block size using hpacucli?

    I have downloaded and installed the latest Window V2 Community M06 build of Neo4j on a windows 7 64 bit machine (I have tried the 32bit and 64 bit installs). Installation proceeds without and problems and the system runs normally but there is no /plugins directory (on both versions):- \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\ \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\.install4j \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\bin I am trying to install the Spatial plugin .. so I tried creating the \plugins directory.   • Need help with Microsoft Access 07 & Reports

    I'm finding it difficult to get MS reporting working to what I'd like to show. What I'm trying to do is: a) In my database store a URL file (HTTP external file), that is a .jpeg. I'd like to use that URL to call the image on the report sheet. I have tried to use 'Control source' on the data panel, but with no success. Any way I can get Dynamic Images to show up on each database. Also, I have a couple of Relational Databases. One Defines Values: For Example: DefinePets('petID','Name of Pet') The other one links the Main DB with the 'DefinePets' database. Eg: connect('petID','mainID','extraFeild') I'd like my report to Go into the "connect" Table, where the the currently viewed Record Value = mainID, then find petID and return Name of Pet. There is a many to many link between definePets and the main Table. (Therefore connect is joining them up) Or is that too much to ask from a simple package like Access?

    Disclaimer: I am not a DBA. I am a database developer. A DBA just sent a report to our data stewards and is planning to remove the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account from the sysadmin role on a bunch of servers. (The probably violate some audit report they received). I see a MSKB article that says not to do this. From what I can tell reading a variety of disparate information on the web, a bunch of special services/operations (Volume Copy, Full Text Indexing, MOM, Windows Update) use this account even when the SQL Server and Agent service etc are all running under dedicated accounts.

  • MySQL multiple instances: can you specify a separate general_log/general_log_file option?

    Have two working MySQL instances as well as the default instance. I have general logging enabled on the default; this is working fine. On the second instance, I've added: general_log = 1 general_log_file = /path/to/log/file under [mysqld1]. Restarted the instance (using mysqladmin and confirmed it was not running with mysqld_multi report 1), started it back up again, and the only data in the log file are the connect statements from when mysqld_multi report 1 was executed. Are all the instance #1 queries just being logged to the default instance general log file? The default instance is quite busy and has identical database names, tables, etc. so it's difficult to figure out right now.

    I've been managing all of my todo-lists as ~/git-repo/todo which is kept under git. THen I add/delete files from the todo list, and have git autocommit all changes. However, I feel there should be more powerful tools. Besides "cil" and git-issues [neither of which I've tried], what tools are available? PS I want something that's entirely text/command line based.     I've a ProLiant DL580 G7 server that experienced a storage subsystem failure during production. The system appeared available and responded to pings, but all I/O access stalled (the system load must have been 100+). The ASR did not trigger at the specified watchdog timeout. I had to force a reboot from the ILO. During POST, I received the following error: A controller failure event occurred prior to this power-up. (Previous lock up code = 0x11) I haven't pulled the ADU report yet, but I'm curious as to what this error actually means. I was not responsible for the the installation, but can see that the firmware is very old. But if there's anything else I should know about the error, I'd like to know for the post-mortem report. edit - I should add that the server had 95 days of uptime prior to the lock up.

  • What's the use of Ant's extension-point if/unless attributes?

    When you define an extension-point in an Ant build file you can have it conditional by using the if or unless attribute. On a target the if/unless prevent it's tasks from being run. But an extension-point doesn't have any tasks to conditionally run, so what does the condition do? My thought (which proved to be incorrect in Ant 1.8.0) is it would prevent any tasks that extend the extension-point from being run.   • IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

    I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project. Since they are a somewhat distributed team, though, all of the issue management / work management must be done via an electronic tool (we currently use Trac).     I have a script that programatically generates excel spreadsheets - cleaning up ugly reports that are given to us from another organisation. For interests sake; I'm using PHPExcel to generate the "clean" reports. We get these reports every week for an event that happens every couple of months. The reports contain a list of attendees along with a group id that allows us to know that some attendees belong together. To help the event organisers out, I've taken the event ID and generated a unqiue color code (based on the hash of the event ID - truncated to 6 characters). This unique colour code is set as the background color of a cell in each row. This helps organisers quickly visually identify group members. Trouble is, when the organisers copy the rows from the weeks report into the master report (which contains all attendees, not just the ones that signed up this week) - all the colour-codes snap to the master template's color pallette.
