  Basically I'm looking for something to give me easy access to information like useragentstring.com, but in JS, without me parsing the user agent and looking for each possible bit of text. The object could be something like this: browser = UserAgent.Browser; // Chrome browserVer = UserAgent.BrowserVersion; // 5.0.342.9 os = UserAgent.OperatingSystem; // Windows NT osVer = UserAgent.OperatingSystemVersion; // 6.1 layoutEng = UserAgent.LayoutEngine; // WebKit layoutEngVer = UserAgent.LayoutEngineVersion; // 533.2 Does something similar to that exist or do I have to write one myself? Writing yet another user agent parser doesn't seem that easy with all those impersonations going back to the dark ages of the web. Specifically I'm looking for something that doesn't just split the user agent into parts and give them to me, because that's as useless as the user agent itself; instead it should parse the user agent and recognize the engine, browser, OS, etc. and return the concrete parts only, as in the example.

• ExtJS - Save State of treePanel.

  TLDR I want my treepanel from EXTJS to remember its previous settings. ExtJS-3.2.1 I have seen this done before for ExtJS-2.x.x :See here on the extjs forums. But as seen as they are pretty much lifeless, with threads on there asking this question or similar with no reply for up to 6months. I thought I would bring it here. I need to be able to get my treePanel to remember previous opened folders and which boxes are checked. It is async treePanel. • iPad UISplitView initial state in portrait: how to display popover controller widget?

  Hi, I'm working on an iPad app that uses a UISplitView. Inspired by http://blog.blackwhale.at/2010/04/your-first-ipad-split-view-application/, I display a button in my detail view when in portrait mode that shows the popover controller. This works great. However, the appropriate UISplitViewControllerDelegate message is only sent when the device rotates. So, when the app first loads (in portrait mode), my navigation button is not visible. Is it possible to somehow convince the UISplitViewController to send that message on load or something, or do I need to re-implement my own popover logic to get things working? Thanks, -Patrick

• Bug with audio reCaptcha in safari

  Hi all, Can other Safari users please test http://recaptcha.net/learnmore.html for me, to see if the audio reCaptcha plays properly? On my machine, I can only hear the audio if I click the Download sound as MP3 link. I also don't get the spoken introduction at all. It works OK in Firefox and Chrome. I was alerted to this bug on my own development site, using the Zend Service for ReCaptcha. However, if it's broken on the official site, then I guess it's not a Zend bug. There don't seem to be any JavaScript errors. Any ideas?

  I've created an OData endpoint (using entity framework, WCF data service) and added a custom test WebGet test method like so: [WebGet(UriTemplate = "{text}")] public IQueryable<string> SplitString(string text) { if (text == null) throw new DataServiceException("text not specified"); var result = (from s in text.Split('-') orderby s select s); return result.AsQueryable(); } and a config line: config.SetServiceOperationAccessRule("SplitString", ServiceOperationRights.All); However, no matter how I specify the url, I can not get the text param to be filled out. (it is always null). so: http://localhost/myservice.svc/SplitString/testtext does not work. What is the correct url format (or UriTemplate) one should use? The only examples I found of odata and WebGet only have an example method which doesn't have any parameters.

• Forcing a mixed ISO-8859-1 and UTF-8 multi-line string into UTF-8

  Consider the following problem: A multi-line string $junk contains some lines which are encoded in UTF-8 and some in ISO-8859-1. I don't know a priori which lines are in which encoding, so heuristics will be needed. I want to turn $junk into pure UTF-8 with proper re-encoding of the ISO-8859-1 lines. Also, in the event of errors in the processing I want to provide a "best effort result" rather than throwing an error. • Is is possible to enable persistent cookies and disable session cookies?

  Hello, We have an application that uses a persistent cookie to store the language of the user and a session cookie for authentication. Now our site starts with a number of tests such as: javascript, cookies, flash plugin, sound and popup and only if all tests succeed you can go to the logon page. After logging in you can see the application. Now one of our clients has a serieus problem, she passes all the tests but upon logging in she goes to the default page and get's redirected tot the logon page again. (form authentication). Now I was wondering how this is possible. It's allmost like a persistent cookie is enabled (otherweise she's not able to skip the language page) and a session cookie isn't.   I've been reading a few gaming books. And they always prefer to create the engine as a static library over dynamic link. I am new to c++ so I am not highly knowledge when it comes to static libraries and dynamic link libraries. All I know is static libraries increase the size of your program, where DLL link libraries are loaded as you need them within your program. [edit] I've played games where it almost seemed they used DLL's to load in sound, lighting, and what not all individually. as the level was loading up. cause you don't necessarily need that when your at the game menu.

However, I'd also like to have the popover dismiss if the button is pressed while it is already open to follow good guidelines. How would I go about doing this? (i.e. if the user repeatedly clicks this button, the popover should come and hide every other hit.)

  Hi all, I have migrated from log4j to logback and also am transitioning to Glassfish from Jetty. I haven't updated my logback configuration from what I had used with Jetty and consequently am not seeing any logs being written. What logging provider should I use? Should I just do my configuration with the Glassfish loggers in domain.xml? <access-log rotation-interval-in-minutes="15" rotation-suffix="yyyy-MM-dd"/> <log-service file="${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/logs/server.log" log-rotation-limit-in-bytes="2000000"> <module-log-levels/> </log-service> These are the defaults in domain.xml. I'd like to split the longs up into several files as well as control log level for each package. I think I can figure out how to configure them, but should I use Glassfish logging or can I use logback? Walter

• How can I set the Inital Orientation for a UISplitViewCOntroller-based iPad App

  I have a split view app running fine on the iPad. It is using the default setup (Popover in Portrait, table view on the left in landscape). The views shift correctly once the app is running. The problem I am seeing is that when the app starts (in the simulator) running in landscape mode the UI paradigm is the one intended for Portrait mode (Master List is a popover) is what loads. I am thinking this is some strangeness with the simulator, or I am missing an option on my main view controller.

• Is this so bad when using MySQL queries in PHP?

  I need to update a lot of rows, per a user request. It is a site with products. I could... Delete all old rows for that product, then loop through string building a new INSERT query. This however will lose all data if the INSERT fails. Perform an UPDATE through each loop. This loop currently iterates over 8 items, but in the future it may get up to 15. This many UPDATEs doesn't sound like too good an idea. Change DB Schema, and add an auto_increment Id to the rows. Then first do a SELECT, get all old rows ids in a variable, perform one INSERT, and then a DELETE WHERE IN SET. What is the usual practice here? Thanks

• problem with hand tracking, opencv

  I am currently creating an opencv program that identifies a hand in an image and then gets the contour of the hand only, in order for us to get the center (x,y)m in pixels, of the hand. The problem is that whenever the image or video includes an arm or a face, we can't split or separate the hand from the contours of the arm or the face. We are currently using an HSV flesh colored histogram to get the contours of the hand. is there a way to separate them, i just need the hand. also if the picture includes only a hand and some part of the arm. How can we isolate the palm itself from the rest of the picture. all we need is a clear center of the palm. thanks in advanced.

  I have an existing WCF RIA project built on the Release Candidate; I'm now moving to the Release version & have discovered many changes. David Scruggs made the following comment on his (MSDN) blog: "If you’ve written anything in SIlverlight 4 RIA Services, you’ll need to rewrite it. There has been a lot of refactoring and namespace moves." Having made a brief attempt to compile the old solution with the new RIA framework I'm inclined to agree. My current plan is to: remove the Silverlight Business Application projects from the Solution rebuild the EF4 items from the database create a new Silverlight Business Application project re-add the files (XAML, CS) from the old Silverlight Business Application project Does this sound like a reasonable approach? I think it's cleaner than trying to manually alter the existing project.

Everything works fine so far but I'm curious why PagingToolbar does not have an option to use parent Grid store? I have tried to set store in my config like this, but without success: {... store:Ext.StoreMgr.lookup('unique_store_id') } Is there any way to do so without writing tons of javascript for each view defining store, grid and other items in my application or at least extend functionality of PaginationToolbar that use options from parent object? • IoC container configuration

  How should the configuration for an IoC container be organized? I know that registering by code should be placed at the highest level in an application, but what if an application had hundreds of dependencies that need to be registered? Same with XML configurations. I know that you can split up the XML configurations into multiple files, but that would seem like it would become a maintenance hassle if someone had to dig through multiple XML files. Are there any best practices for organizing the registration of dependencies? From all the videos and tutorials that I've seen, the code used in the demo were simple enough to place in a single location. I have yet to come across a sample application that utilizes a large number of dependencies.

• tablesorter pager initial pagination

  Hi, This might sound like a very stupid question to some of you, but I assure you I've been checking through the internet and I haven't had any luck about this. My question is: is it possible to set an initial pagination number in the tablesorter pager plugin? By default it takes the 10 option, but I've tried to put a 5 as the selected option and it loads 10 anyway. If I change it and come back to the 5 it will load as said, 5, but not at the beggining. Is there any option when loading the tablesorter?   Flash CS4, AS2 I have made an interactive tour. It can be seen here: http://www.92YTribeca.org/Tour click on the bottom image Each of the 4 sections are external swf and loaded on level 1. I want a button on one swf (floorplan) to load another swf (facility rentals) AND pinpoint a specific frame on the swf's timeline. I have tried many different ways, all end up loading the swf at the first frame and ignore the rest of the code talking about the timeline. I know I could split this swf up into more external swfs and get the result I want, but I would rather use code if I can. Is what I want to do possible? If so, how do I write the code? Thanks!

  I would like to implement a search function in a django blogging application. The status quo is that I have a list of strings supplied by the user and the queryset is narrowed down by each string to include only those objects that match the string. How would I do that? Is there a way to do that with Django's own Queryset methods or does one have to fall back to raw SQL queries? In general, is it a proper solution to do full text search like this or would you recommend using a search engine like Solr, Whoosh or Xapian. What are there benefits? Thanks for taking the time
