  • Android: Creating custom class of resources

    Hi, R class on android has it's limitations. You can't use the resources dynamically for loading audio, pictures or whatever. If you wan't for example, load a set of audio files for a choosen object you can't do something like: R.raw."string-upon-choosen-object" I'm new to android and at least I didn't find how you could do that, depending on what objects are choosen or something more dynamic than that. So, I thought about making it dynamic with a little of memory overhead. But, I'm in doubt if it's worth it or just working different with external resources. The idea is this: Modify the ant build xml to execute my own task. This task, is a java program that parses the R.java file building a set of HashMaps with it's pair (key, value). I have done this manually and It's working good. So I need some experts voice about it. This is how I will manage the whole thing: Generate a base Application class, e.g. MainApplicationResources that builds up all the require methods and attributes. Then, you can access those methods invoking getApplication() and then the desired method.     I know about Flash's localToGlobal and globalToLocal methods to transform coordinates from the local system to the global system, but is there a way to achieve the intermediate? To transform coordinates from an arbitrary system to any other arbitrary system? I have a clickable object inside a Sprite, and the Sprite is a child of the stage. I want to retrieve the clicked point in the Sprite.

However, since properties are no more than syntactic sugar for a get and set method, they are also allowed in interfaces. My question is - is there any situation where defining properties in an interface is appropriate or should we stick to the scenarios described by MSDN?

    I'm looking for a way to set a selection in a textarea in Internet Explorer. In other browsers, this works just fine: textarea.selectionStart = start; textarea.selectionEnd = end; In IE, I assume I have to use createRange and adjust the selection somehow, but I cannot figure out how. Extra bonus points for a link to a proper documentation about createRange and associated methods, MSDN isn't helping out much.

The old Web Service endpoint had a nice extensive description page generated from the comment of the underlying class exposed as a service endpoint. In particular, all available web methods were listed. Is there a way to emulate somehow this behavior with WCF? At least, how can I customize the HTML content of the WCF endpoint?

  • Ruby: How can I have a Hash take multiple keys?

    I'm taking 5 strings (protocol, source IP and port, destination IP and port) and using them to store some values in a hash. The problem is that if the IPs or ports are switched between source and destination, the key is supposed to be the same. If I was doing this in C#/Java/whatever I'd have to create a new class and overwrite the hashcode()/equals() methods, but that seems error prone from the little I've read about it and I was wondering if there would be a better alternative here.

  • c++ class member functions selected by traits

    I am reluctant to say I can't figure this out, but I can't figure this out. I've googled and searched stackoverflow, and come up empty. The abstract, and possibly overly vague form of the question is, how can I use the traits-pattern to instantiate non-virtual member functions? The question came up while modernizing a set of multivariate function optimizers that I wrote more than 10 years ago. The optimizers all operate by selecting a straight-line path through the parameter space away from the current best point (the "update"), then finding a better point on that line (the "line search"), then testing for the "done" condition, and if not done, iterating. There are different methods for doing the update, the line-search, and conceivably for the done test, and other things. Mix and match. Different update formulae require different state-variable data. For example, the LMQN update requires a vector, and the BFGS update requires a matrix. If evaluating gradients is cheap, the line-search should do so. If not, it should use function evaluations only. Some methods require more accurate line-searches than others. Those are just some examples. The original version instatiates several of the combinations by means of virtual functions. Some traits are selected by setting mode bits. Yuck. It would be trivial to define the traits with #define's and the member functions with #ifdef's and macros. But that's so twenty years ago. It bugs me that I cannot figure out a whiz-bang modern way. If there were only one trait that varied, I could use the curiously recurring template pattern. But I see no way to extend that to arbitrary combinations of traits. I tried doing it using boost::enable_if, etc.. The specialized state info was easy. I managed to get the functions done, but only by resorting to non-friend external functions that have the this-pointer as a parameter. I never even figured out how to make the functions friends, much less member functions. Perhaps tag-dispatch is the key. I haven't gotten very deeply into that. Surely it's possible, right? If so, what is best practice?

    I am just wondering if it's possible to I cancel "Drag and Drop" operation in Java/Swing programmatically? So the effect would be similar to if the user pressed the "ESC" key? I was expecting DragSourceDragEvent or DragSourceContext to have a cancelDrag() method, similar to DropTargetDragEvent which has acceptDrag() and rejectDrag() methods (both of which does not do what I want). I am missing something?

What is the best way to call methods on different threads in order to pass data back and forth between them.Both threads will use the same message object type to communicate in both directions between them.
