  • How to fix: mac keyboard ignores "first" key pressed

    UPDATE 2012.03.19: the MBP described in this post is now broken and recycled (logic board fried). The replacement doesn't manifest the same problems. I tend to believe the problem originated in the keyboard firmware of the old MBP. Every now and then, usually after I haven't pressed a key in some time, sometimes minutes, sometimes seconds, my MBP will "swallow" the the first key I press ... say I'm logging into "superuser.com" .. I start typing my username and the textbox will show "exu" instead of "lexu" This is driving me nuts! My guess is the keyboard or it's controller goes to sleep and fails to wake up propperly ... What can I do about this? PS: I've already installed "MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0"

  • Grub problem with dual boot Ubuntu & XP (Ubuntu installed first)

    I had Ubuntu installed and I installed XP. I tried to be able to dual boot them by running an Ubuntu live cd and running ~ $ sudo grub grub> root (hd0,0) grub> setup (hd0) But now when I restart I get a black screen that says 'Boot device Selected Boot Device and press any key No matter what key I press it shows this error This is what my system looks like: /dev/sda1 - Ubuntu - ext3 - 73 GiB /dev/sda2 - Ubuntu - extended - 3.16 GiB /dev/sda5 - Ubuntu - linux-swap - 3.16 GiB /dev/sdb1 - Windows XP - ntfs - 76 GiB /dev/sdc1 - Stuff - ext3 - Code/Documents /dev/sdd2 - Stuff - ext3 - Movies/Music

  • Page won't load on IE9 unless developer tools are started first

    One of my pages (with very extensive javascript) won't load on IE9. It loads ok in Mozilla, Chrome, Safari and Opera. If IE9 Developer tools are running it loads fine. If I load IE9, load the developer tools (F12) then kill the developer tools it still loads fine. If developer tools are running then sometimes (but not always) the first message in the console is: HTML1113: Document mode restart from Quirks to IE9 Standards Doctype is: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> If I change doctype to and remove the xmlns nothing changes. I'm stumped. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • rsync doesn't use delta transfer on first run

    I'm trying to synchronize a large local directory (with a batch file using rsync 3.0.7 on Cygwin, Windows 7 x64, 30k files, 200gb size) to a remote server (Debian x64 with kernel 2.6, rsyncd 3.0.7) over a slow internet connection (90kbyte/s upload). I know almost all files are identical and I verified that using md5sum locally and remotely. However when executing rsync from my local machine every file gets transferred completely for the first time. When I terminate the batch file after a few transfers and run it again then the already transferred files are skipped. But as soon as it gets to a file not yet transferred it uploads the file as a whole again instead of noticing that the checksum is the same locally and remotely.     I've got the following data and pivot table: The Total column in the pivot table is the sum of the following calculated field: =start-TIME(7, 30, 0) I know that this calculation is wrong for what I want to achieve. I need to know how much delay I have had on each day to start the work. e.g. on 1-Oct-12, assuming I should have started my work at 7:30, 8:00 - 7:30 which yields 30 minutes delay, 1 hour delay for 2-Oct-12 and 50 minutes for 3-Oct-12. So my question is, how can I have a calculated field based on only the first row of each group in a pivot table?

There was no issue until the config of the load balancer changed from source address persistence to least connections. Now in some applications I receieve this error Server Error in '/' Application. I have point these to the external IP address. bind is ok, dig is onerror, Apache2 reload ok 1.) If I set the following, I can only see the first one alphabetically.   • Own website fails to load first time

    I have a website running on a VPS, every time I first try to load the website the connection times out. If I press try again, it loads directly. I'm not sure whether this is a DNS issue or a server issue. As far as I know everything is set up correctly. Also, it has been doing this from the moment I got this server and set up my domain name. And that's about two to three months ago. You may take a look here: http://www.wegotcha.nl/ As you can see at this moment it's just an image, there are no scripts running in the background or anything. The only error Apache gives me is that favicon.ico cannot be found. It's an Apache webserver running on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (newest version) I update all packages almost every day (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade). I am merely an amateur on the area of webservers so any help will be appreciated. :)

    I have a spreadsheet for my budget. Payments are either drawn from my bank or my Amex card and then my Amex card is drawn from my bank as well. So I add up all my monthly total like this: =sumif(I3:I20,"<>AMEX",D3:D20) Where I3:I20 = account bill is paid from and D3:D20 is monthly amount due. So I am not including bills that come from my Amex card in the total since the Amex bill itself covers those. Next I have a column that has the day of the month 1-10 (when everything gets paid) and it does this: =sumif(H3:H20,E24:E33,D3:D20) Where H3:H20 = date bill is paid and E25:E35 = range from 1-10. What I want to do is make this second part do the same check as the first. Something like this: =sumif(H3:H19,E24:E33,IF(I3:I19"<>SPG",D3:D19,0)) But I get error: "Parse error" What am I doing wrong?

    Hi I'm trying to learn to rename files with the command line, and after browsing around a lot of pages I finally found a command that uppercases the first letter of a file, but the problem is that I want to understand the meaning of each command. The command is: for i in *; do new=echo "$i" | sed -e 's/^./\U&/'; mv "$i" "$new";done I understand the 'for' kinda... but not the 'echo' or '`' and especially the sed command. if someone has a little patience to explain the meaning of each thing that'd be awesome!   • Lookups targeting merged cells - only returning value for first row

    I have a master worksheet which contains data that I wish to link to another 'summary' sheet using a lookup. However, some of the cells whose data I wish to include in the summary sheet are merged across two or more adjacent rows. To be clear, the 'primary' column A that I am using in my formula in order to identify the target row does not contain merged cells, but the column from which I wish to return a value does. I have tried VLOOKUP and INDEX+MATCH. The problem is that the data is only returned for the first row's key, and the others return zero (as though the cell in the target column were blank, where actually it is merged). I have tried inelegant ways around this, e.g. using IF statements to try to find the top row of the merged cell. However, these don't work well if the order of values in the summary sheet is different from that in the master sheet, as well as being messy. Can this be done?

  • Windows Virtual Machine ping reply fails the first few times

    I am running a windows Web Server 2008 virtual machine. When I try to ping it from another windows machine the ping reply comes straight back with 100% success. But when I try to ping it from one of the Linux boxes, the ping reply fails with partial or 100% loss the first couple of time and succeeds the third time onwards. I know it is quite strange but can any one think anything that could be causing it. Could anything in the Windows Domain Security or Firewall be "taking time" to allow responding to the ping request? In fact even the firewall is turned off on the virtual machine.

  • Website ocasionally does not load on first click

    Today I noticed that my website hosted on a virtual server ocasionally does not load on first click. I click on some link, browser starts loading page but nothing loads and does not not appear any error message (like "connection reset by peer etc). Nothing. When I click the same link again, page loads immediately. The same situation on 2 computers in different browsers. It happends not always, maybe on each 20... or 30 click. Sites from other servers load without this problem. Any ideas what can cause this problem?

    In Windows, a single right click (i.e., with release) displays a context menu on the screen, allowing you to select the appropriate choice with a further click from either button. In Mint 13, Cinnamon, it's hold down the right button, drag, then release on the appropriate menu choice. Both methods are fine, but constantly using both OSs regularly, I'm doing the Windows procedure in Mint by mistake all the time. This makes the single right click and release bring up the context menu and immediately action the first menu choice. Is there any mechanism to ignore right-button-up if a substantial dragging action or time period hasn't occurred, and have Mint looking for a further click to select?

    Today Uncle Bob Martin, a genuine hero, showed this video In this video Bob Martin claims that our programming languages are at the right level for our problems at this time. One of the reasons I get from this video as that he Bob Martin sees us detail managers and our problems are at the detail level. This is the first time I have to disagree with Bob Martin and was wondering what the people at programmers think about this. First there is a difference between MDA and MDE MDA in itself hasn't worked and I blame way to much formalisation at a level you can't formalize these kind of problems. MDE and MDD are still trying to prove themselves and in my mind show great promise. e.g. look at MetaEdit The detail still needs to be management in my mind, but you do so in one place (framework or generators) instead of at multiple places. Right for our kind of problems ? I think depends on what problems you look at. Do the current programming languages keep up with the current demands on time to market ? Are they good at bridging the business IT communication gap ? So what do you think ?

  • Deleting JPA entity containing @CollectionOfElements throws ConstraintViolationException

    I'm trying to delete entities which contain lists of Integer, and I'm getting ConstraintViolationExceptions because of the foreign key on the table generated to hold the integers. It appears that the delete isn't cascading to the mapped collection. I've done quite a bit of searching, but all of the examples I've seen on how to accomplish this are in reference to a mapped collection of other entities which can be annotated; here I'm just storing a list of Integer. Essentially I want to group my orders by CustomerID, but i noticed that linq to entity does not allow a .ToList(object) inside the select. I want something like this... List customers = GetCustomerList(); var orders = from c in customers from o in c.Orders where o.OrderDate >= new DateTime(1998, 1, 1) select new xpto { TheCostumerID = c.CustomerID, CostumerOrders = o.Select(i=>i.OrderID).ToList(), }; ...but the .ToList() is a big problem, at least for me. I'm trying to find out the solution for that but so far I have acomplished nothing! Please help me.

    I have two tables in the model, one table contains entries related to the other table in a one to many relations, for example: Table User ID Name Table Comments ID UserID Title Text I want to show a datagrid in a WPF window with two columns, one text column with the User name and another column with a combobox showing all the comments made by the user. The datagrid definition is like this: <DataGrid AutoGenerateColumns="False" [layout options...] Name="dataGrid1" ItemsSource="{Binding}"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Name" Binding="{Binding Path=Name}"/> <DataGridComboBoxColumn Header="Comments" SelectedValueBinding="{Binding Path=UserID}" SelectedValuePath="ID" DisplayMemberPath="Title" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Comments}" /> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> in the code I assign the DataContext like this: dataGrid1.DataContext = entities.Users; The entity User has a property named Comments that leads to all the comments made by the user. The queries are returning data and the user names are shown but the combobox is not being filled. May be the approach is totally wrong or I'm just missing a very simple point here, I'm opened to learn better methods to do this. Thanks

  • Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13

    I keep a windows partition on my laptop for the occaisional bit of Photoshop work. A while ago I noticed that Windows had disappeared from my grub boot menu and when I try to mount the windows partion, my system hangs for a bit and then I get this: Unable to mount 105 GB Filesystem Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to calculate free MFT records: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. It seems that chkdsk is a windows command but since I can't boot into windows (since its the windows partition that is the problem) I'm not sure what to do.   • Is this kind of design - a class for Operations On Object - correct?

    In our system we have many complex operations which involve many validations and DB activities. One of the main Business functionality could have been designed better. In short, there were no separation of layers, and the code would only work from the scenario in which it was first designed at, and now there were more scenarios (like requests from an API or from other devices) So I had to redesign. I found myself moving all the DB code to objects which acts like Business to DB objects, and I've put all the business logic in an Operator kind of a class, which I've implemented like this: First, I created an object which will hold all the information needed for the operation let's call it InformationObject. Then I created an OperatorObject which will take the InformationObject as a parameter and act on it. The OperatorObject should activate different objects and validate or check for existence or any scenario in which the business logic is compromised and then make the operation according to the information on the InformationObject. So my question is - Is this kind of implementation correct? PS, this Operator only works on a single Business-wise Operation.

  • JPA - Setting entity class property from calculated column?

    I'm just getting to grips with JPA in a simple Java web app running on Glassfish 3 (Persistence provider is EclipseLink). So far, I'm really liking it (bugs in netbeans/glassfish interaction aside) but there's a thing that I want to be able to do that I'm not sure how to do. I've got an entity class (Article) that's mapped to a database table (article). I'm trying to do a query on the database that returns a calculated column, but I can't figure out how to set up a property of the Article class so that the property gets filled by the column value when I call the query. If I do a regular "select id,title,body from article" query, I get a list of Article objects fine, with the id, title and body properties filled. This works fine. However, if I do the below: Query q = em.createNativeQuery("select id,title,shorttitle,datestamp,body,true as published, ts_headline(body,q,'ShortWord=0') as headline, type from articles,to_tsquery('english',?) as q where idxfti @@ q order by ts_rank(idxfti,q) desc",Article.class); (this is a fulltext search using tsearch2 on Postgres - it's a db-specific function, so I'm using a NativeQuery) You can see I'm fetching a calculated column, called headline. How do I add a headline property to my Article class so that it gets populated by this query? So far, I've tried setting it to be @Transient, but that just ends up with it being null all the time.
