• Building a VS2010 solution from TFS2008

  I have a TFS 2008 Build Agent that has been used to build .Net 3.5 applications. I now have a .Net 4.0 app which i want to compile on the same build agent. I have ensured that MSBuild 4.0 is installed on there and all the required componentry is also installed, but i am getting the following MSB4062 error when building: [Any CPU/Release] C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets(244,5): error MSB4062: The "Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.GetSilverlightItemsFromProperty" task could not be loaded from the assembly C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.dll. Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.Build.Tasks.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. Confirm that the declaration is correct, and that the assembly and all its dependencies are available. I am presuming that i get this because the TFSBuild.proj gets executed by MSBuild 3.5 which in turn means my solution is compiled with MSBuild 3.5. Am i correct with my diagnosis? Is there any way to ensure that TFS2008 uses MSBuild 4.0 for my solution? Can it be done on a single team project so that it doesn't affect any other team projects being built on the same build agent? • SmartGWT TreeGrid, adding and editing

  I'm trying to programmatically add a new TreeNode to a TreeGrid, and then turn on editing for the newly added node. This is my data source: DataSource ds = new DataSource(); DataSourceTextField idField = new DataSourceTextField("key", "Id"); DataSourceTextField nameField = new DataSourceTextField("name", "Name"); DataSourceTextField keyField = new DataSourceTextField("id", "Key"); keyField.setPrimaryKey(true); ds.setFields(idField, keyField, nameField); ds.setClientOnly(true); My fields: TreeGridField name = new TreeGridField("name", "Name"); TreeGridField id = new TreeGridField("id", "Id"); TreeGridField key = new TreeGridField("key", "Key"); key.setHidden(true); id.setHidden(true); And my code for adding a new record: TreeNode parent = (TreeNode) treeGrid.getSelectedRecord(); if (parent == null) parent = treeGrid.getData().getRoot(); Tree data = treeGrid.getData(); node = data.add(node, parent); Now, how on earth do I switch on editing for the added node? I've tried startEditing(), but that defaults to the first node, and I don't see any way of obtaining the row number for the newly added node, which would allow me to use startEditing(rowNum, colNum, suppressFocus). Using startEditNew() is not an option for many reasons, mainly because that method adds the new node to the bottom of the tree, which doesn't work at all with my app. How do I do this? Grateful for any help you guys can give me.

• IIS7 Mixed Mode Authentication

  We're getting ready to start migrating some of our IIS6 sites to IIS7, and the application currently uses Forms Authentication. We have started getting some requests from various sites to use the Windows Authentication for the users. While this is easy enough to implement (and I've shown internally that there is no issue with the app, as expected) the question then is how to continue to keep Forms authentication for when Integrated Windows doesn't work. I've seen several walkthroughs on how to have it configured on IIS6, and I could do the same thing on IIS7, but then I have to turn on Classic Mode processing. Any solution should also be back portable to IIS6, if possible, to keep the build tree simple. So what are my options on this? Do I setup the app with Integrated Windows Authentication in IIS7, Forms Auth in the web.config, and redirect 401 errors to an "error page" allowing them to login using forms, then back to the regular app? The case when Forms is likely to be needed is going to be reserved for Contract workers, our support staff, and if someone needs to access it on their site from their Extranet. So primarily it's for our staff to login to check functionality and confirm bug reports. I suggested we just maintain that for our support staff to work, we need a Windows login that will always be live, and then we'll just enforce local responsibility on who can login to the site, but I'm told that we would do better to have Forms Authentication. Any thoughts? I can post some of the links of the articles I've already read through if that would help the forum better narrow my needs. Many thanks. tl;dr: How to do mixed mode authentication (forms, windows) in IIS7 without changing to classic pipeline and still be able to use the build in IIS6 if possible.

• Select videos using UIImagePickerController in 2G/3G

  Hi, I am facing a problem where-in I cannot select videos from the photo album in iPhone 2G/3G device. The default photos application does show videos and is capable of playing them, which in turn means that UIImagePickerController should clearly be capable of showing videos in photo album and selecting them. I havent tested for 3GS, but I am sure that this problem does not exist in it with reference to other threads. I have built the app for both 3.0 (base SDK) and 3.1 but with the same results.   So we have all heard of these overnight millionaires in the app store. We know it would be great, but somewhat unlikely to do ourselves. What I do know is, that learning and developing for the iPhone can sometimes be overwhelming. I continue to push on and learn more and more, even when my brain just cant take anymore I turn my mac on and read up on how to do new and different things I haven't done yet in my app yet. I would like to see a few post's of a common day developer's story and how their life has improved now that they are sitting up on the golden pedestal of an iphone developer. I look at these Dice.com jobs on think how nice it would be to be making that kind of money offered for an experienced iphone developer. Im on my way... and while I'm on that road i'd like to look over and see your story... Please include how you got into iPhone development and any apps you have out there and your success with them. • Can't run ASP.NET MVC 2 web app on IIS 7.5

  I'm trying to run an ASP.NET MVC 2 web application under IIS on Windows 7, but I get a 403.14 error. Here are the steps to reproduce: Open Visual Studio 2010 Create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 project called MvcApplication1 Shift+F5 to run the app. You should see http://localhost:{random_port}/ and the page will render correctly. Click on MvcApplication1, and select "Properties". Go to the "Web" section. Select "Use Local IIS Web server" and create a virtual directory. Save. Shift+F5 to run the app. You should see http://localhost/MvcApplication1/ and an IIS error HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.. It's clear that for whatever reason, ASP.NET routing is not working correctly. Things I've already thought of and tried: Verified that all IIS features are enabled in "Turn Windows features on or off". Verified that the default website is configured to use .NET 4.0 Reassigned ASP.NET v4 scripmaps via aspnet_regiis -i in the v4.0.30319 directory. Here's the most amazing part - this is on a just-built machine. New copy of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, clean install of Visual Studio 2010 Premium, no other websites and no other work performed. Anything else I can try?

• C#: Streaming an Audio file from a Server to a Client

  I am currently writing an application that will allow a user to install some form of an application (maybe a Windows Service) that will open a port on it's PC and given a particular destination on the hard disk, will then be able to stream mp3 files. I will then have another application that will connect to the server (being the user's pc) and be able to browse the hosted data by connecting to that PC (remotely ofcourse) given the port, and stream mp3 files from the server to the application I have found some tutorials online but most of them are about File Servers in C# and they download allow you to download a whole file. What I want is to stream an mp3 file so that it starts playing when a certain number of bytes are download (ie, whilst it is being buffered) How do I go about in accomplishing such a task? What I need to know specifically is how to write this application (that I will turn into a Windows Service later on) that will listen on a specified port a stream files, so that I can then access the files by something of the sort: http://<serverip>:65000/acdc/wholelottarosie.mp3 and hopefully be able to stream that file in a WPF MediaPlayer. [Update] I was following this tutorial about building a file server and sending the file from the server to the client. Is what I have to do something of the sort? [Update] Currently reading this post: Play Audio from a Stream using C# and I think it looks very promising as to how I can play streamed files; but I still don't know how I can actually stream the files from the server.

  Hi, I'm have a Silverlight 3 UI that access WCF services which in turn access respositories that use NHibernate. To overcome some NHibernate lazy loading issues with WCF I'm using my own DataContract surrogate as described here: http://timvasil.com/blog14/post/2008/02/WCF-serialization-with-NHibernate.aspx. In here I'm setting preserveObjectReferences = true My model contains cycles (i.e. Customer with IList[Order]) When I retrieve an object from my service it works fine, however when I try and send that same object back to the wcf service I get the error: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException was unhandled by user code Message=There was an error while trying to serialize parameter http://tempuri.org/:searchCriteria. The InnerException message was 'Object graph ...' contains cycles and cannot be serialized if references are not tracked. Consider using the DataContractAttribute with the IsReference property set to true.' So cyclical references are now a problem in Silverlight, so I try change my DataContract to be [DataContract(IsReference=true)] but now when I try to retrieve an object from my service I get the following exception: System.ExecutionEngineException was unhandled Message=Exception of type 'System.ExecutionEngineException' was thrown. InnerException: Any ideas?

• Sharing a session between vBulletin forum and status.net microblogging platform

  Hello, I need to integrate vBulletin 4.0.3 Publishing Suite with status.net microblogging platform. The first thing I need to do is make these 2 to share 1 session so a user logged in vBulletin forums will also be logged in to status.net and vice versa. I have installed different vBulletin components under different subdomains: forums.sample.com - vBulletin forums blogs.sample.com - vBulletin blogs sample.com - vBulletin content management All of these point to the same place (.../public_html/index.php) which includes the respective php file (content.php for sample.com | blog.php for blogs.sample.com | forum.php for forums.sample.com) depending on the $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] I have configured vBulletin to use a single cookie.domain (.sample.com) for all of these 3 domains so visiting different domains doesn't break the session. I also have status.sample.com, which is the subdomain where status.net is installed. The subdomain configuration is different so the document_root is actually a subfolder (.../public_html/status/) in sample.com Now, can you please give me some pointers on how to make all these subdomains share a single session? I'm not sure if it helps, but as I understand, status.net does no custom session handling by default, but it is possible to turn it on so it will start storing session data in a database table called "session". Any tips will be appreciated. Thank you.

• Selectively suppress XML Code Comments in C#?

  We deliver a number of assemblies to external customers, but not all of the public APIs are officially supported. For example, due to less than optimal design choices sometimes a type must be publicly exposed from an assembly for the rest of our code to work, but we don't want customers to use that type. One part of communicating the lack of support is not provide any intellisense in the form of XML comments. Is there a way to selectively suppress XML comments? I'm looking for something other than ignoring warning 1591 since it's a long term maintenance issue. Example: I have an assembly with public classes A and B. A is officially supported and should have XML documentation. B is not intended for external use and should not be documented. I could turn on XML documentation and then suppress warning 1591. But when I later add the officially supported class C, I want the compiler to tell me that I've screwed up and failed to add the XML documentation. This wouldn't occur if I had suppressed 1591 at the project level. I suppose I could #pragma across entire classes, but it seems like there should be a better way to do this.

• Help with CSS - getting an element to fill 100% of the remaining vertical space

  Hi folks I'd consider myself a reasonable standard CSS/XHTML chap but I'm pretty baffled by this. The problem is available here: http://furnace.howcode.com - (note that the site is still in development, most stuff doesn't work, and it's likely to change fairly quickly as it is updated often). Basically I've got a fluid layout that needs to work in the same proportions on any resolution. Here's a screenshot of how the designer invisioned it (I apologise for my Paint-tool anotations): I want the tabs and the search box to STAY at the top of Col2, whilst there should be a scrollable area beneath it where the results are returned. I want NO vertical viewport scrolling, only within the 100%-height area thingy. My problem is this. If you take a look at http://furnace.howcode.com, you'll see that I've got a bit of a problem. I've made a placeholder black-background div which I will turn into the Tabs shortly. However I want the Col2 div to float BENEATH this and fill 100% of the remaining vertical height (i.e. go to the bottom of the screen, nomatter what the resolution is) and Col3 to be in the place where Col2 currently has been put (it normally is there automatically, when Col2 is in the right place!). • ActionMailer and Exchange

  Hello Community, I successfully send Mails via SMTP using my Rails App and my Postfix Server. Now I need to move to an Exchange: Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.3959 that has POP3 and SMTP support enabled. I use actionmailer 1.2.5 and am not able to successfully login to the server while trying to send a mail. In case I use Mail.app sending and recieving works fine as long as I change the authentication schema to "Password". • Help with SqlCeChangeTracking

  I'm trying to use a new class in SqlCe 3.5 SP2 called SqlCeChangeTracking. This class (allegedly) lets you turn on change tracking on a table, without using RDA replication or Sync Services. Assuming you have an open SqlCeConnection, you enable change tracking on a table like this: SqlCeChangeTracking tracker = new SqlCeChangeTracking(conn); tracker.EnableTracking(TableName, TrackingKeyType.PrimaryKey, TrackingOptions.All); This appears to work, sort of. When I open the SDF file and view it in SQL Server Management Studio, the table has three additional fields: __sysChangeTxBsn, __sysInsertTxBsn and __sysTrackingContext. According to the sparse documentation, these columns (along with the __sysOCSDeletedRows system table) are used to track changes. The problem is that these three columns always contain NULL values for all rows, no matter what I do. I can add, delete, edit etc. and those columns remain NULL no matter what (and no deleted records ever show up in __sysOCSDeletedRows). I have found virtually no documentation on this class at all, and the promised MSDN API appears non-existent. Anybody know how to use this class?

• Is there any way to get an ExtJS GridPanel to automatically resize its width, but still be contained

  I want to include an ExtJS GridPanel inside a larger layout, which in turn must be rendered inside a particular div in some pre-existing HTML that I don't control. From my experiments, it appears that the GridPanel only resizes itself correctly if it's within a Viewport. For instance, with this code the GridPanel automatically resizes: new Ext.Viewport( { layout: 'anchor', items: [ { xtype: 'panel', title: 'foo', layout: 'fit', items: [ { xtype: 'grid', // define the grid here... but if I replace the first three lines with the lines below, it doesn't: new Ext.Panel( { layout: 'anchor', renderTo: 'RenderUntoThisDiv', The trouble is, Viewport always renders directly to the body of the HTML document, and I need to render within a particular div. If there is a way to get the GridPanel to resize itself correctly, despite not being contained in a ViewPort, that would be ideal. If not, if I could get the Viewport to render the elements within the div, I'd be fine with that. All of my ExtJS objects can be contained within the same div. Does anybody know of a way to get a GridPanel to resize itself correctly, but still be contained inside some non-ExtJS-generated HTML?

• C# - Possible to use IOCTL

  I'm trying to code for a Point Of Sale system which allows for a "Cash Drawer" attachment. Code is provided in the manual for opening the cash drawer (in C++ using IOCTL). Since I am coding in C# .NET, is it possible to perform something similar from within C# or will I have to write some unmanaged code? Am I able to get a handle to "\\.\ADVANSYS" from within C#? Do I need to use DLLImport? • FileNotFoundException when running WiX CustomAction with COMAdmin interop

  I am trying to create a WiX custom action which will allow me to shutdown and clear down a COM+ package as part of an upgrade installation, or create and configure a new COM+ package as part of the initial installation. I previously had this running as a CustomAction within a standard Visual Studio MSI but this only allows the custom action to be executed after the files have been copied - which will fail as the package will still be running. The COMAdmin.dll has been added as a reference to the CustomAction project and is set CopyLocal=true. In the bin folder for the custom action project the Interop.COMAdmin.dll is present. The answer to this question seems to suggest that it should work. • C# Convert Excel Range to Dataset or Datatable, etc.

  I have an Excel spreadsheet that will sit out on a network share drive. It needs to be accessed by my Winforms C# 3.0 application (many users could be using the app and hitting this spreadsheet at the same time). There is a lot of data on one worksheet. This data is broken out into areas that I have named as ranges. I need to be able to access these ranges individually, return each range as a dataset, and then bind it to a grid. I have found examples that use OLE and have got these to work. However, I have seen some warnings about using this method, plus at work we have been using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel as the standard thus far. I don't really want to stray from this unless I have to. Our users will be using Office 2003 on up as far as I know. I can get the range I need with the following code: MyDataRange = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range)MyWorkSheet.get_Range("MyExcelRange", Type.Missing); The OLE way was nice as it would take my first row and turn those into columns. My ranges (12 total) are for the most part different from each other in number of columns. Didn't know if this info would affect any recommendations. Is there any way to use Interop and get the returned range back into a dataset? Thanks for your help.

• Problem loading Oracle client libraries when running in a NAnt build

  I am trying to use dbdeploy to manage Oracle schema changes. I can run it successfully from the command line to get it to generate my change scripts, but when I try to execute it via the dbdeploy NAnt task running through TeamCity, I get an error: System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater. I do have the Oracle 10.2.0.2 client software installed. It's the first entry in the system path, and the dbdeploy.exe app is able to successfully negotiate an Oracle connection. The dbdeploy code dynamically loads the System.Data.OracleClient assembly, which in-turn tries to use the Oracle client bits to talk to the database. This is what is failing in my NAnt environment. • How to mix C++ Qt objects and Qt Jambi objects

  Hi, I'm trying to combine some existing Qt code written in C++ with some code written in Java using Qt Jambi, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. I'm basically trying to acieve two things: Pass a QObject from C++ to Java using JNI Pass a Qt Jambi QObject from Java to C++ It looks like I can pass the pointer directly and then wrap it in QNativePointer on the Java side, but I can't figure out how to turn a QNativePointer back into the original object, wrapped by Qt Jambi. Eg: I can pass a QWidget* as a long to Java and then create a QNativePointer in Java, but how can I then construct a QWidget out of this? QJambiObject and QObject dont seem to have a "setNativePointer" method and I'm not sure how to convert it.   Hello, I am trying to send a basic email through Google Apps/Gmail using C# (System.Net.Mail/Framework 4) and I am having trouble doing so. I am receiving the following exception: "The operation has timed out." Using ports 25, 465, and 587 Hard coding the config settings in the c# code instead of using the web.config Sending and telneting from multiple network locations to ensure the firewall/ISP was not blocking it Ensured that POP was enabled in the GMail settings (according to Google this should turn on the ability to send using SMTP) Changing the send from and replyTo address to ensure they match the account (apparently a GMail necessity). I am able to send and receive email fine through the GMail interface for both of my email accounts. I have also tried the settings and solutions offered in Question # 757987 to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

• Legacy URL rewriting with query string parameters

  I've looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/817325/asp-net-mvc-routing-legacy-urls-passing-querystring-ids-to-controller-actions and several other similar posts for legacy URL routing, but I can't get past the error "The RouteData must contain an item named 'controller' with a non-empty string value." Looking this up on line didn't give me any hints to solve my problem. I've implemented the Legacy routing class described in the link above, and this is what I've defined in the routing table: routes.Add( "Legacy", new LegacyRoute("fooref.aspx", "FooRef", new LegacyRouteHandler()) ); routes.MapRoute( "FooRef", "{controller}/{action}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", foo_id = UrlParameter.Optional, bar_id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); When I use Phil Haack's route debugger, it indicates that fooref.aspx has a match, but when I turn the route debugger off, I get the error above. If I reverse the statement order, I get "Resource not found" for /ctprefer.aspx, which makes sense -- so it appears to be finding that as a valid route when put in the other order. Where do I need to declare this missing controller reference? Have routing requirements changed for ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM?
