When you receive a VERIFIED postback response, perform the following checks on data in the IPN: Check that the payment_status is Completed. If the payment_status is Completed, check the txn_id against the previous PayPal transaction that you processed to ensure it is not a duplicate. Check that the receiver_email is an email address registered in your PayPal account. Check that the price, carried in mc_gross, and the currency, carried in mc_currency, are correct for the item, carried in item_name or item_number. After you complete the above checks, notification validation is complete. • Suggestions for entering mobile development -- pure iPhone SDK, Android SDK, Mono Touch or Titanium

  I am entering mobile development. I have been working primarily in .NET since 1.0 came out in beta. Before that, I was mostly a C++ and Delphi guy and still dabble in C++ from time to time. I do web apps quite a bit so I am reasonably proficient with Javascript, JQuery and CSS. I have also done a few Java applications. I started web programming with CGI and live mostly in the ASP.NET MVC world these days. I am trying to decide on which platform/OS and tool to select. I am concerned with the size of the market available for my applications as well as the marketibility of the skills I will pick up. The apps I have in mind would work on both phones and pads. Some aspects of what I have in mind will play better on the bigger screens that will be available on pads. Here are the options I am considering: Apple iPhone/iPad using pure Apple SDK (Objective-C) Apple iPhone/iPad using Mono Touch (C#) Android using pure Android SDK (Java) Multiple platforms using something like Titanium to generate native apps from web technologies (HTML, CSS and Javascript) Multiple platforms using HTML5 web applications that run in the browser (HTML, CSS and Javascript). Which option would you choose? Do you have a different suggestion? What are the pros and cons?

• No coverage for runtime with Devel::Cover and ModPerl::Registry

  When I'm running Devel::Cover with ModPerl::Registry, I get no coverage info except for BEGIN blocks. When I'm running the same script with Devel::Cover from command line or as a CGI, everything works alright (obviously). How can I make Devel::Cover "see" my code being executed in the runtime? • Server reporting incorrect mime type for css files

  We have a VPS server that we host our websites on. I have written a CMS using CodeIgniter. On one of the interfaces, I am attempting to upload a css file to the system. This worked correctly when we had it hosted on shared hosting. Since we've moved it to the VPS, I am getting an "incorrect filetype" error. It all comes down to the fact that the server is reporting a mime type of text/x-c for the css file rather than text/css. I logged in via shell and ran the following command on an existing valid css file (to make sure it wasn't an issue with either CodeIgniter or with php). file --brief --mime 'filename.css' 2>&1 The server gave me the following in response to my command: text/x-c; charset=us-ascii My question ... is there some sort of server setting that I need to tweak to get the server to correctly identify the css file as text/css? Do I just have to add a mime type for the css files to the server? I found the mime types file (etc/mime.types), and it just hase video types and a couple other that I have no idea what they are. There is nothing in there for css or images or html files. Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot. I'm not a server person, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. • JAXB boolean handling oddities and JSF

  There is a known bug in JAXB: https://jaxb.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=733 JAXB does not properly generate boolean field getters and setters, this bug is left unfixed for backwards compatibility. A JAXB plugin exists and will ensure that the following getters and setters for boolean fields are generated: setXXX(Boolean value) is generated getXXX() is generated If the boolean attribute specifies default value in the XSD, then getXXX() returns boolean, If the boolean attribute does not specify default in the XSD, then getXXX() returns Boolean. Problem: trying to edit/view the XXX field in a JSF component (such as checkbox) does not work - the component is disabled. I have not traced this in depth but the assumption (backed by the workaround below) is that JSF EL resolver (or whathaveyou) looks for Boolean getXXX() method and since it does not find it, the component is disabled. Workaround: If I change the getXXX() method to always return Boolean, then everything goes. Questions: What are your ideas to address this problem? Have I missed some customization for the boolean-getter JAXB plugin? Is it possible (does it make sense) to alter JSF resolver (or whathaveyou) so that if Boolean getXXX() is not found, it will fall back to boolean getXXX()? I would prefer not to manually intervene and change all the generated getXXX() methods to return Boolean instead of boolean.

• How do I use an SWT Control to render the content of an SWT/JFace table?

  I have a JFace TableViewer with an SWT Table, and I would like to custom render the content of some cells. I would like to use an SWT Control to render the cell content. I would prefer to have only one instance of the Control doing the rendering, but if I have to instantiate one for each row, that would be acceptable. Next, the solution MUST be compatible with the ContentProvider/LabelProvider approach (I am using EMF). This means that I cannot use the solution described in Sniplet 126 (http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/org.eclipse.swt.snippets). Next, I though about using custom drawing. But here the catch is, that I have to send individual drawing operations to the graphics context. I was trying to have the Control render the content for me by calling redraw() or print(GC) upon SWT.PaintItem, but that just lead to uncontrollable flickering. At this point, my best guess is to use SWT.PaintItem to do the drawing. This will result in duplicate code, as I already have a Control that can render the content the way I'd like it. I'd like to prevent this redundancy. Any help is appreciated!

• CSS background image being downloaded more than once

  I noticed in my current project that Firefox (3.5.4) downloads the background image (set in CSS) for my divs more than once. I've checked with both firebug and wireshark and it really does appear that it does not wait for the first request to finish and then simply use the cached version. Wireshark also confirms that Chrome and IE8 do as expected and only request the image once. Any ideas what might be causing this?   Hi, It should be so simple. I've followed every tutorial and forum I could find, yet I can't get it to work. I simply want to build a RESTful API in PHP on Apache2. In my VirtualHost directive I say: <Directory /> AllowOverride All <Limit GET HEAD POST PUT DELETE OPTIONS> Order Allow,Deny Allow from all </Limit> </Directory> Yet every PUT request I make to the server, I get 405 method not supported. Someone advocated using the Script directive, but since I use mod_php, as opposed to CGI, I don't see why that would work. People mention using WebDAV, but to me that seems like overkill. After all, I don't need DAV locking, a DAV filesystem, etc. All I want to do is pass the request on to a PHP script and handle everything myself. I only want to enable PUT and DELETE for the clean semantics. Thanks, Andreas

• Flash video player doesn't play after rewriting a url

  Hi! I recently started a new job working on a content management system. One of the jobs was to implement url rewriting, which i've done, but for some reason the URL rewriting has killed the ability to play flv files through FLVPlayer_Progressive. An example can be seen below: Working if you then follow the link on the menu and go to Campaigns It's a Living Thing you can see how it's not working when the url is being re-written.   I've been trying to find a solution for ages with no success. On our app, customers submit a form and on the next page we process it. Sometimes though the data never arrives. This seems to happen for just a few of our customers. Seems to happen with IE7 and using a proxy. • Tailing 'Jobs' with Perl under mod_perl

  Hi everyone, I've got this project running under mod_perl shows some information on a host. On this page is a text box with a dropdown that allows users to ping/nslookup/traceroute the host. The output is shown in the text box like a tail -f. It works great under CGI. When the user requests a ping it would make an AJAX call to the server, where it essentially starts the ping with the output going to a temp file. Then subsequent ajax calls would 'tail' the file so that the output was updated until the ping finished. Once the job finished, the temp file would be removed. However, under mod_perl no matter what I do I can's stop it from creating zombie processes. I've tried everything, double forking, using IPC::Run etc. In the end, system calls are not encouraged under mod_perl. So my question is, maybe there's a better way to do this? Is there a CPAN module available for creating command line jobs and tailing output that will work under mod_perl? I'm just looking for some suggestions. I know I could probably create some sort of 'job' daemon that I signal with details and get updates from. It would run the commands and keep track of their status etc. But is there a simpler way? • what webserver / mod / technique should I use to serve everything from memory?

  I've lots of lookuptables from which I'll generate my webresponse. I think IIS with Asp.net enables me to keep static lookuptables in memory which I can use to serve up my responses very fast. Are there however also non .net solutions which can do the same? I've looked at fastcgi, but I think this starts X processes, of which anyone can handle Y requests. But the processes are by definition shielded from eachother. I could configure fastcgi to use just 1 process, but does this have scalability implications? anything using PHP or any other interpreted language won't fly because it is also cgi or fastcgi bound right? I understand memcache could be an option, though this would require another (local) socket connection which I'd rather avoid since everything in memory would be much faster. The solution can work under WIndows or Unix... it doesn't matter too much. The only thing which matters is that there will be a lot of requests (100/sec now and growing to 500/sec in a year), and I want to reduce the amount of webservers needed to process it. The current solution is done using PHP and memcache (and the occasional hit to the SQL server backend). Although it is fast (for php anyway), Apache has real problems when the 50/sec is passed. I've put a bounty on this question since I've not seen enough responses to make a wise choice. At the moment I'm considering either Asp.net or fastcgi with C(++).

• Form values in a list item

  Here is the site mock-up I'm working on for my job: http://dev.arm.gov/~noensie/dqhands/cgi-bin/explorer. I'm still a novice in web developing and I need help with placing form values in a list item to pass on to another page. I'd rather not go in great detail the purpose of this website, but in terms of its basic use, select the parameters in the middle column for a request and add it to the list on the right column by pressing on "add request" button when it appears. After the list have been populated, a user would submit the selected requests, which will direct them to another page based on the requests selected (or added to the list, same thing). That last sentence is where I'm having a problem. Right now, each of request in the list in the right column are <li> elements and I assign them attribute values that needed to be passed on to the next page. I tried inserting a hidden input with same values, but I'm still not sure how to utilize that; I'm not even sure using the hidden input is the correct way. Also the "submit request" button is located outside the <form> block. I was going to utilize javascript and jQuery to enable the button to serialize the values in the <form> block, but I don't know quite how to do that. Go ahead and take a look at my javascript code (index.js) and slay me, or, I mean, my code. It's still pretty elementary and short (~260 lines, that's short right?). I will take any help for this problem (as the matter of fact, if you see any other problems or a better way of implementation of something, go ahead and mention that too); tips, advice, code samples, or whatever else you can contribute, it will be greatly appreciated.
