• Customizing UISlider look

  To customize the visual look of a UISlider you can set the thumb and track images. Part of the track images gets stretched to the appropriate with. From the documentation: A stretchable region sits between two end cap regions. The end caps define the portions of the image that remain as is and are not stretched. The stretchable region is a 1-point wide area between the end caps that can be replicated to make the image appear longer. Now the problem I have is that my stretchable region needs to be more than 1-point wide. (It's a pattern) Unfortunately the 1-point width seems to be hard coded in the SDK. Anyone having an idea how to work around this? Or will I have to write my own slider from scratch for this?

• Google maps spatial reference system

  What is Google map's spatial reference system using when you enter a lat, long into the maps search bar? I've found hints that it might be WGS84 but after converting to that coordinate system, nothing shows up when i paste the coordinates into the google maps search box. I am converting from GDA MGA 56.   How can you make the .xla file if you want to create your own xla? I have the code, classes, shapes, etc....what is the process to making an xla file to point to? I know that I have to put it in my program files folder, and then go through the steps to adding an "add-in" in xls...but i mean actually saving an xla file to point to.... can i simply write all this in xls and then save it as file type xla?? because i have tried to do that but I get an error that it is not a valid add in when I am in a spreadsheet trying to point to it? thanks!

• Where are the really high quality and complex Swing components?

  Looking at Swing, I have the feeling that it comes with many useful and reasonable atomic components in its core. And when I look at the Web there are hundrets of quickly plugged together components (among them many date/time pickers, pimped lists and tables), which have in common that I could easily write them on my own, if I needed them. When I build big software and come to the point where I need a domain-specific component which is really big, I mostly come to the point where I have to write it on my own, which, due to the point that they are not just plugged together lists and tables, isn't done qickly. So, the question is, why are there no Swing component galleries which contain more than just customized date/time pickers or lists with added tree support. Where are the components which really raise the level of abstraction, or are in best case domain-specific?

• Any way to have delayed_job execute some run-once code at startup and use across all jobs?

  So I've got a delayed_job task that pushes some info to an XMPP server. Ideally you create a connection to XMPP once and then constantly push data to it, rather than creating a new connection every time you have some data to send. Is there any kind of facility in delayed_job for running a sort of 'setup' method when a worker starts, have it set some instance variables (like the XMPP connection object) that can then be used by all the jobs that come up? It's okay if each worker runs its own setup method. I just don't want every job (thousands per day) connecting to the XMPP server from scratch every time. Thanks for any help!

• Netbean Cannot update Google App Engine server to appengine-java-sdk-1.3.2

  I am using Netbean 6.7.1 I just update my google app engine plugin in netbean with Netbean auto update. I found out there is new app engine SDK. So i want to update my google app engine server to point to appengine-java-sdk-1.3.2 After I download appengine-java-sdk-1.3.2.zip. I unzip it. Then at Netbean: I already have a Google App Engine server under Services - Server. I can't find anyway to point it to the newly installed sdk folder. So I deleted the existing "Google App Engine" server & try to add a new one. Server - Add Server - Google App Engine - at "Installation Location", I point it to google app engine folder, which is "C:\appengine-java-sdk-1.3.2", it show this message at bottom "C:\appengine-java-sdk-1.3.2" & don't allow me to continue. May I know how to solve this? thanks!

  I'm getting some data from the web service and saving it in the core data. This workflow looks like this: get xml feed go over every item in that feed, create a new ManagedObject for every feed item download some big binary data for every item and save it into ManagedObject call [managedObjectContext save:] Now, the problem is of course the performance - everything runs on the main thread. I'd like to re-factor as much as possible to another thread, but I'm not sure where I should start. Is it OK to put everything (1-4) to the separate thread?

  I am trying to sort a List of 2D Points first by x co-ordinate and then by y co-ordinate. I implemented the IComparer interface as follows: class PointComparer : IComparer<Point> { public int Compare(Point x, Point y) { if (x.Y != y.Y) { return x.Y - y.Y; } else { return x.X - y.X; } } } And then call my sorting as follows: pointsList.Sort(new PointComparer()); For some reason the list doesn't sort. • How to create a "sidebar" in Umbraco CMS?

  In Umbraco, every page has a content field that you can edit in the admin-area. What I want would be a second content field that I (actually my customer who will be editing the content by himself) can edit on every page. I would then create a masterpage/template that contains the two content areas (the first one as the main content and the second one as the sidebar). At least this is how I would do it. Is this possible or is there even a better approach for having a main content and a separate sidebar on every page?

• How do I map a texture onto a Octahedron?

  I'm about to go mad. I cant for the life of me figure out texture coords. I have a Octahedron defined by the 8 triangles below. I want to map a texture of the earth on it.   I have two models Category and Point. The associations are defined as: Category hasMany Point Point belongsTo Category I would like, when adding Points to my database, to be able to select the category it belongs to from a <select> box, along with the rest of the form data. Where would i need to set the category list and how could i do it? And how would i produce the select box? I assume it could be done with $form->input('categorieslist',array('type'=>'select')); //categorieslist needs //setting somewhere. But i am fairly new to Cake and not done much with associations before. Thanks.

  hi all. i have a System.Drawing.Point[] filled with some System.Drawing.Point's. so when i want to draw this points as a polygon in a System.Windows.Form instance , the final drawn polygon is not all in the screen or sometimes is very small (in screen shown as 2-3 pixel). i wonder if there is some Library that using that i can just send Point[] to that and thatself scales and ... points and draws polygon manner that all points shown in screen and they are scaled to fit the screen (i mean small objects that shown as 2-3 pixel scale up to fit entire screen); thaks all and sorry for my bad english...

• How to specify a web service URL within a Drupal module's simpletest?

  I have a Drupal module that talks to a REST API on a separate server for user registration and authentication. The module runs on multiple sites which point to different servers which may run different versions of the REST API. Ideally, I'd like to be able to run each site against its own end-point, in case changes on the back end break things. Is there a way to dynamically specify a different end-point URL when running a test? Or do I have to edit the .test file for each site? I'm trying to keep the module's files as generic and flexible as possible. I guess I could have the .test file look for a .inc file that could override the URL, if needed for a particular site. Is there a better way though?

• Find overdrawn accounts in SQL

  Hey guys, I have a program that allows me to run queries against a large database. I have two tables that are important right now, Deposits and withdraws. Each contains a history of every user. I need to take each table, add up every deposit and withdraws (per user), then subtract the withdraws from the deposits. I then need to return every user whos result is negative (aka they withdrew more then they deposited). Is this possible in one query? Example: Deposit Table: |ID|UserName|Amount| |1 | Use1 |100.00| |2 | Use1 |50.00 | |3 | Use2 |25.00 | |4 | Use1 | 5.00 | WithDraw Table: |ID|UserName|Amount| |2 | Use2 | 5.00 | |1 | Use1 |100.00| |4 | Use1 | 5.00 | |3 | Use2 |25.00 | So then the result would output: |OverWithdrawers| | Use2 | Is this possible (I sure don't know how to do it)? • Apache loads any file that begins with the same string as used in url. How to prevent this?

  If I point to: mywebsite.com/search and there is a file called search.php or search.html or search.inc.php or search.whatthehell.php in website's directory, Apache will point to that file instead of 404'ing. What is even more annoying is that if I point to: mywebsite.com/search/string?also=whatever Apache will still display any file with filename that begins with "search.". Also, all RewriteRules with patterns containing filenames existing in directory are ignored/useless. I'm using Apache 2 on Mac, unmodified httpd.conf. How do I prevent it from redirecting my urls so freely?

• How do I build a specialized JQuery Timer

  I have an asp.net page where two grid views are available showing current stock market price updates. I need to update these two grid views every 20 seconds. So I was thinking of using JQuery to do this job. What I need is a timer which will fire every 20 seconds, send an ajax request to the servers, bring the order lists from the server using json and then update those two grid views. If a request to the server is still being served 20 seconds after it is fired, then I want the old one to be aborted without causing any trouble. I already know how to bring objects using json. I just need to figure out how to send a request every 20 seconds and cancel a request if it is still being server for 20 seconds.

• FluentNhibernate dynamic runtime mappings.

  I am building a framework where people will be able to save items that the created by inheriting a class of mine. I will be iterating over every type in the appdomain to find classes that I want to map to nhibernate. Every class that I find will be a subclass of the inherited type. I know how to create sub types in FluentNhibernate, but every sub type requires its own ClassMap class. Since I won't know these untill runtime, there is no way I can do that. Is there a way that I can add mappings to fluent nhibernate? Note, I know this is possible without fluent nhibernate using the Cfg class, but I don't want to manage the same code two different ways.

• Can my app arrange a gdb breakpoint or watch?

  Is there a way for my code to be instrumented to insert a break point or watch on a memory location that will be honored by gdb? (And presumably have no effect when gdb is not attached.) I know how to do such things as gdb commands within the gdb session, but for certain types of debugging it would be really handy to do it "programmatically", if you know what I mean -- for example, the bug only happens with a particular circumstance, not any of the first 11,024 times the crashing routine is called, or the first 43,028,503 times that memory location is modified, so setting a simple break point on the routine or watch point on the variable is not helpful -- it's all false positives. I'm concerned mostly about Linux, but curious about if similar solutions exist for OS X (or Windows, though obviously not with gdb).

• Simple and efficient distribution of C++/Boost source code (amalgamation)

  Hello: My job mostly consists of engineering analysis, but I find myself distributing code more and more frequently among my colleagues. A big pain is that not every user is proficient in the intricacies of compiling source code, and I cannot distribute executables. I've been working with C++ using Boost, and the problem is that I cannot request every sysadmin of every network to install the libraries. Instead, I want to distribute a single source file (or as few as possible) so that the user can g++ source.c -o program. So, the question is: can you pack the Boost libraries with your code, and end up with a single file? I am talking about the Boost libraries which are "headers only" or "templates only". As an inspiration, please look at the distribution of SQlite or the Lemon Parser Generator; the author amalgamates the stuff into a single source file which is trivial to compile. Thank you.

• MongoDB: embedding performance question

  I just started learning MongoDB, and I really like the idea of embedding collections instead of referencing them. MongoDB's documentation recommends to use embedding if performance is needed. I just thought about a simple forum model. Let's say, every board category has several boards, every board has several topics, and every topic has several messages. All of these collections are embedded. After some time the size of the board category will be huge. Way more than the 2MB limit. Does this mean that there's a flaw in this design?
