  I have the following query: $this->select() ->where("`name` LIKE ?",'%'.mysql_escape_string($name).'%') Now I have the Zend_Paginator code: $paginator = new Zend_Paginator( // $d is an instance of Zend_Db_Select new Zend_Paginator_Adapter_DbSelect($d) ); $paginator->getAdapter()->setRowCount(200); $paginator->setItemCountPerPage(15) ->setPageRange(10) ->setCurrentPageNumber($pag); $this->view->data = $paginator; As you see I'm passing the data to the view using $this->view->data = $paginator Before I didn't had $paginator->getAdapter()->setRowCount(200);I could determinate If I have any data or not, what I mean with data, if the query has some results, so If the query has some results I show the to the user, if not, I need to show them a message(No results!) But in this moment I don't know how can I determinate this, since count($paginator) doesn't work anymore because of $paginator->getAdapter()->setRowCount(200);and I'm using this because it taks about 7 sec for Zend_Paginator to count the page numbers. So how can I find If my query has any results?

• how to optimize an oracle query that has to_char in where clause for date

  I have a table that contains about 49403459 records. I want to query the table on a date range. say 04/10/2010 to 04/10/2010. However, the dates are stored in the table as format 10-APR-10 10.15.06.000000 AM (time stamp). As a result. When I do: SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE TO_CHAR (create_date,'MM/DD/YYYY)' >= '04/10/2010' AND TO_CHAR (create_date, 'MM/DD/YYYY' <= '04/10/2010' I get 529 rows but in 255.59 seconds! which is because I guess I am doing to_char on EACH record. However, When I do SELECT bunch,of,stuff,create_date FROM myTable WHERE create_date >= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') AND create_date <= to_date('04/10/2010','MM/DD/YYYY') then I get 0 results in 0.14 seconds. How can I make this query fast and still get valid (529) results?? At this point I can not change indexes. Right now I think index is created on create_date column

• X11 and ARGB visuals: does DefaultDepth() never return 32?

  Hi, I'm establishing a connection to the X server like this: display = XOpenDisplay(NULL); screen = DefaultScreen(display); depth = DefaultDepth(display, screen); I'm wondering now why "depth" is always set to 24. I would expect that it is only 24 when compositing is turned off, but in fact, it is still 24 even when I turn on compositing. So in order to get a 32-bit ARGB visual I need to call XGetVisualInfo() first with depth set explicitly to 32. Now to my question: Will DefaultDepth() generally never return more than 24 or is it just on my system? (my graphics board is somewhat dated...). I know that it could return 15, 16 or even 8 for a CLUT display but can it return 32? Or do I always have to use XGetVisualInfo() first to get a ARGB 32-bit visual? Thanks, Andy

• How can I get Syslogging to work on the JVM?

  I want to do syslogging from Java. There is a log4j appender, but it doesn't seem to work (for me anyway ... though Google results show many others with this issue still unresolved).   I have an app with about 15 threads. Most do mundane tasks and sleep most of their lives. Others collect information and cache it in hashmaps. The hashmaps grow to a moderate size and level out. The number of keys and size of value remains constant, but the contents of the values changes (at 33 keys per second average). When I start my app, I notice the garbage collection interval goes from minutes to once per second, and the amount of garbage is 700k+ each time. In fact as I was writing this, it caused my phone to reboot with an error "Referencetable Overflow". Here's my question: Are there any tricks to identifying which threads are producing the garbage, or even finding out more about what garbage they are producing?

• Using JavaScript to change the URL used when a page is bookmarked...

  JavaScript doesn't allow you to update window.location without triggering a reload. While I agree with this policy in principle (it shouldn't be possible to visit my website and have JavaScript change the location bar to read www.yourbankingsite.com,) I believe that it should be possible to change www.foo.org/index to www.foo.org/help. The only reason I care about this is for bookmarking. I'm working on a photo browser, and when a user is previewing a particular image, I want that image to be the default if they should bookmark that page. For example, if they are viewing foo.org/preview/images0-30 and they click on image #15, that image is expanded to a medium-sized view. If they then bookmark the page, I want the bookmark URL to be foo.org/preview/images0-30/active15. Any thoughts, or is there a security barrier on this one as well? I can certainly understand the same policy being applied here, but one can dream.

  I am trying to get the user idle state of my Windows Mobile device. When I run the function GetSystemPowerState (after 15 min of not touching the device) I get the following value: Dec: 302055424 Hex: 0x12010000 Bin: 10010000000010000000000000000 I was hoping that PowerState & POWER_STATE_USERIDLE == POWER_STATE_USERIDLE would be true. But POWER_STATE_USERIDLE is 0x01000000 and I have 0x02000000. I went to look up 0x02000000 and found that it is not in pm.h. What does 0x02000000 mean? Where could I go to find out?

Parameter ds is of type OtherDLL.BaseObj which is defined in a referenced ActiveX DLL. ds.Data is a variant 2-dimensional array (one dimension carries the data, the other one carries the column index. ds.Columns is a Collection of columns in 'ds.Data`. Assuming there are at least 400 rows of data and 25 columns, this code takes about 15 seconds to run on my machine. Kind of unbelievable. However if I copy the variant array to a local variable, so: function Foo(ds as OtherDLL.BaseObj) dim lngRowIndex as long dim lngColIndex as long dim v as variant v = ds.Data for lngRowIndex = 1 to ubound(v, 2) for lngColIndex = 1 to ds.Columns.Count Debug.Print v(lngRowIndex, lngColIndex) next next end function the entire thing processes in barely any noticeable time (basically close to 0).   I get this response from a web service call. Now I need to be able to dynamically create a winform based on these controls. My problem is the layout. I want to be able to create them nicely separated (If possible vertically aligned) in batches of lets say 5.So If I need 15 controls I have 3 columns and 5 rows. What would be best way to achieve this? I know that I can use the inbuilt positioning properties like top, width etc., but maybe someone out there has done something similar in a better way.

  I've started porting an existing ASP.NET web app to Windows Azure and have noticed that the development process is really slow. Each time I make a change to my code and want to view it, I have to effectively redeploy it to the local dev cloud (using Start debugging (F5) or Start without debugging (Ctrl-F5). The process itself takes over a minute, during which time Visual Studio is completely unresponsive. Am I doing something wrong or is that simply how things are developing for Azure? My specs: Visual Studio 2008 9.0.30729.1 SP 5 projects running on .NET 3.5 SP1 Azure SDK 1.1 (February 2010) Single instance of a single web role Dual-core AMD 64 machine with 8GB RAM, 64-bit Windows 7, fully patched The main project itself is quite large (3k files, ~200k lines) but compiles normally in 10-15 seconds

• Read random lines from huge CSV file in Python

  I have this quite big CSV file (15 Gb) and I need to read about 1 million random lines from it. As far as I can see - and implement - the CSV utility in Python only allows to iterate sequentially in the file. It's very memory consuming to read the all file into memory to use some random choosing and it's very time consuming to go trough all the file and discard some values and choose others, so, is there anyway to choose some random line from the CSV file and read only that line?   Hello, I'm stumbling in the data wilderness and feel very lost, so i am asking for help. I have done some database apps in VS (C#) winforms for some time, wpf lately. These are small to medium apps (embedded dbs, a bit of sql server), like a restaurants, cash registers and similar. (15-20 tables) Until now, i have done all my datasets by drag and drop in Visual Studio designer. I spent weeks on web trying to find some complete solution how to write complete solution with typed datasets by hand from scratch (DAL, B.Objects) in hope to learn some architecture patterns along the way, but without success. So, finally question. Can someone recommend me what to learn for this type of applications, maybe move away from datasets , use some ORM ( maybe overkill, i dont know). Point me in some direction please.

  When I try to install the ADT 16.0.1 plugin on Eclipse Indigo java developer edition release 1 or Helios normal edition release 2, I get the following error: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software currently installed: Shared profile 1.0.0.1316138460759(SharedProfile_epp.package.java 1.0.0.1316138460759) Missing requirement: Shared profile 1.0.0.1316138460759 (SharedProfile_epp.package.java 1.0.0.1316138460759) requires 'org.maven.ide.eclipse [1.0.100.20110804-1717]' but it could not be found I've tried to lookup the package it's refering to on apache, JDK reference and android developer reference but no luck! This's not my first time installing ADT, I already have it installed on Ubuntu and it works. I also had the old release (ADT 15) installed on Eclipse galileo on windows, but I re-installed windows (i'm running windows 7 ultimate by the way) and I can run the old release but it's very good developing with ICS API-s. So, if anyone could help, it would be highly appreciated.
