• Varnish doesn't seem to be caching

  I've setup a Varnish cache mirror to sit in front of a file server, but it seems to be endlessly re-downloading data from my file server. There's about 100GB of data in total, but so far Varnish has downloaded 800GB from my file server. • making cookies persistent in IE8

  There's a website I sign into frequently, and I'm getting sick of entering my username and password every time. The website can remember who I am so long as I don't close my browser (Internet Explorer 8), but when I do it forgets me, and asks me to login again. I'm guessing this is because it's using a cookie (and perhaps a session) that expires when I close my browser. Is there anyway to make this information persistent across each time I load my browser? (I tried exporting the cookies to a file, and then importing them as soon as the browser was reloaded, but that didn't work either... I'm thinking the cookie text file needs to be modified somehow.) (FYI The website is http://blackboard.unh.edu, but you won't have access unless you happen to be a student there :-) NOTE: I'm not interested in using any password remembering features in the browser. The only solution I'm open to is making the cookie / session persistent somehow!

• Can't uninstall trial version of Expression Blend 3, error writing to file Config.msi

  I can not remove a trial version of MS Expression Blend 3 from my pc. I am always getting the same error: "Error writing to C:\Config.msi\6e6288.rbf." The name of the file varies. On the error message window there are two buttons: "Retry" and "Cancel", but clicking on any of them gives the same result - uninstall is cancelled and everything is rolling back. I tried to change access permissions to that folder in many ways, but result all the same.

• Cannot write to registry while installing Microsoft Access 2010 - Error 1406

  While installing I get an error: Microsoft Access 2010 encountered an error during setup. Error 1406. Setup cannot write the value to the registry key \Software\Classes\Interface{000C036F-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid. Verify that have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assitance. I went to regedit to check on the key that the error was talking about but when I clicked on it it says file not found. I'm using 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Any ideas?

• Adding Thunderbird-stable repository gives "can't find signing_key_fingerprint" error

  I'm trying to install Thunderbird 11 on Kubuntu 10.04. I was able to do it on the machine I'm working on. To get a clean process that I can roll out to other clients, I re-installed the machine and repeated the process. This is what I did (I've left out the sudo for clarity): add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa apt-get update add-apt-repository ppa:mozilla-team/thunderbird-stable The last one resulted in this error: Error: can't find signing_key_fingerprint at https://launchpad.net/api/1.0/~mozilla-team/+archive/thunderbird-stable The machine as it was before re-installation gave no such message. It was built from the same sources. Bottomline: I got Thunderbird 11.0 to run on Kubuntu 10.04 but after re-installation, adding the repository gives an error and won't add. Is there a way to solve the signing_key_fingerprint error?

• Deleting MySQL rows causes lock table error

  I had a couple million rows to delete but they can't be deleted at once without this error ERROR 1206 (HY000): The total number of locks exceeds the lock table size So I wrote a script to delete 100,000 rows 10,000 at a time. It ran once but when I run it a second time I get the error on the first attempt to delete 10,000. The way I'm trying to delete the 10,000 rows is to use a delete statement that refers to all 2 million rows but I use a limit clause to affect only 10,000. I've tried adding an "unlock tables;" statement to the script before the first delete but that doesn't help. I still get the lock table error on the first delete. Any ideas how I can do this? Is there a way I can tell it NOT to lock records? I can make sure nothing else is accessing the table.

  I have very simple bot that gathers and parses web pages. It's on a machine in network, behind NAT (so I cannot setup a web server, for example). I don't have MTA set up. The bot should notify me about changes in parsed pages (once in a hour or two, to one recipient). How can this be done? Is there any RESTful email gateways, like SMS ones? I can set up him a twitter account and use curl to post statuses/DM, but it's a very temporary bot.

• Most scalable way of serving a small set of static HTTP content

  The story: Hi guys. I'm among the people responsible for serving the results of the most anticipated (by number of people participating) annual entrance exam in my state. As such, when our results are published, the interest is overwhelming. In the past we delegated the responsibility of serving the results to the media, but that spoils a little the officialness of these results. This year we went with a little (long overdue) experiment of using lighttpd instead of Apache as well as other physical network optimizations I wasn't directly involved with. The results were very satisfactory. The server didn't choke even once, nor we saw any of the usual Twitter complaints on unavailability and/or slowness that were previously common. However, because we still delegated the first publication of the results to the media I'm still not 100% sure we can handle the load of actually publishing the results first. The question: Now because these files are like 14MB in total and a true lightweight Linux distribution isn't that big either, I'm thinking: what if next year we run full RAMdrive? Is there any? Is that useful? Is that worth it for a team that uses Debian almost exclusively? Are there other optimizations that I should be focusing on instead?

  I am doing a school project where we need to create an android application which needs to connect to a database. the application needs to gain and store information for people's profiles on the database. But unfortunatly we are a little bit stuck at this point because there are numerous ways to link the application such as http request through apache or through the SOAP/REST protocol. But it's really hard to find good instructions or tutorials on the problem since I can't really find them. Maybe that's cause i'm probably using the wrong words on google. Unfortunately I have little relevant information. So if anyone can help me with finding relevant links to good online tutorials or howto's than those are very welcome.

  Im trying to setup libwebsock, simple C websocket library. I followed the installation procedure from INSTALL file, everything went fine. Im able to compile test program given in the examples. But when I want to run my executable, wild error appears: ./echo: error while loading shared libraries: libwebsock.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I checked /usr/local/lib twice, libwebsock.so.1 exists and is doing very well. I also tried copying the lib to the echo folder (so its placed next to binary), still same error. • MySQL Server - Got error -1 from storage engine

  I am currently trying to restore a MySQL table from the .ibd file. I have been following the instructions on the MySQL reference manual on how to use DISCARD and IMPORT TABLESPACE to replace the .idb files. Discarding the tablespace returns no error and the file is deleted however IMPORTING the replacement .ibd file yields a "Got error -1 from storage engine" error. There doesn't seem to be too much information about what exactly an error -1 is. Does anybody have any further insight as to why an import table space isn't working?

• Windows Phone sync error when syncing with iTunes on different Hard Drive

  I have my iTunes library file on a separate hard drive (which I believe may be the cause of the problem) and I have been trying to use it to synchronize with my Windows Phone. I would like to first note that if I set up my phone to synchronize with 'Windows Libraries', then it works fine. This is however not ideal as I have categorised my music and made playlists etc, on iTunes. When I first link my Windows Phone to the Windows Phone App (for desktop) and select iTunes from the above selection, I get the following error message: After searching that error, I found the following forum threads: Fix for error 8300300B when trying to sync Lumia 920 Windows 8 Phone in PC? • Winlogon Application Error [closed]

  This error is happening to 6 out of 32 computers. I have created a base image from scratch using Ghost Enterprise, but error still shows on the same machines. It happens at the log on prompt and after doing a soft reset the message goes away, but it comes back eventually. -Error message- The Instruction at "0X74eF400e" referenced Memory at "0X00000000" The memory could not be "Written".   I'm trying to setup a simple ARR system. I have 1 ARR machine load balancing between 2 APP servers. I can reach the app sites if i use the server name of the ARR machine. (http://arrserver/app) But i can't do it with its IP address. (http://10.7.10.25/app). It gives the "Bad Request - Invalid Hostname". In the ARR machine i configured the default site's bindings to "All Unassigned","80" (default values). Do i need to change the binding rule or need additional url rewrite rules? And also, in the ARR server http://127.0.0.1/app doesn't work. But http://localhost/app works fine. Thx in advance

  I have some php code that runs fine in a browser but now I want to use the same code and execute it from a cron script I'm getting issues. i tried the command on cron wget -O /dev/null http://www.mydomain.com/test.php but if i try that in the terminal i get the error below. What is the correct command to run a php file from cron? and do I need to add extra line of code to the top of my php file? • Proxy Error 502 "Reason: Error reading from remote server" with Apache 2.2.3 (Debian) mod_proxy and Jetty 6.1.18

  Apache is receiving requests at port :80 and proxying them to Jetty at port :8080 The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server The proxy server could not handle the request GET /. My dilemma: Everything works fine normally (fast requests, few seconds or few tens of seconds long requests are processed ok). Problems occur when request processing takes long (few minutes?). If I issue request instead directly to Jetty at port :8080 the request is processed OK. So problem is likely to sit somewhere between Apache and Jetty where I am using mod_proxy. How to solve this? • Server 2003 answers ping, but wont serve http, ftp,smtp or pop3

  After reboot, my server wont respond to any incoming request until it is rebooted again. Then, about 5-6 hrs later, any website on it will return a ping, but it will not serve the page, nor will it serve ftp, pop3 or smtp requests. The System log shows W3SVC errors 1014 and 1074, which relate to an Application pool not replying; I have one phpAdmin app pool which I have stopped - it is showing a solitary website as the default App, but the server no longer serves php extensions, and I can't transfer the default website to another pool to kill the whole app pool. I would appreciate your help.

• 503 Error After Microsoft Request Routing Is Installed - 32 bit 64 bit madness

  I have a requirement to install the Microsoft Request Routing component for IIS 7.5 running on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64Bit machine. After installing Microsoft Request Routing via the Web Platform installer our ASP.NET 4.0 application gets a "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." The Windows event log error details says: The Module DLL 'C:\Program Files\IIS\Application Request Routing\requestRouter.dll' could not be loaded due to a configuration problem. The current configuration only supports loading images built for a AMD64 processor architecture. The data field contains the error number. To learn more about this issue, including how to troubleshooting this kind of processor architecture mismatch error, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=29349. I can make this error go away by changing the application pool to run in 32 bit mode by changing the "Enable 32-Bit Applications" setting to true. However I would prefer not to have to do that to resolve the issue. My questions are: Why is the Microsoft Request Routing feature trying to load a 32 bit version, isn't there a 64 bit version for it? How do I resolve this issue without having to change my application pool to a 32 bit mode?

After some time It throws me error ext/intl/.libs/php_intl.o: In function `zm_startup_intl': php-5.4.8/ext/intl/php_intl.c:651: undefined reference to `spoofchecker_register_Spoofchecker_class' php-5.4.8/ext/intl/php_intl.c:654: undefined reference to `spoofchecker_register_constants' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [sapi/cli/php] Error 1 Spent lots of hours finding solutions. I can't come out of any. Does anyone know what this error exactly means? How to get rid of this error?

• telnet - is there a maximum line limit?

  I am working on several servers that use HTTP for transport of commands. What I have encountered is that some of the commands I am trying to issue by hand are very long GETs, several lines, and that when I telnet from my Mac to my Solaris system, I cannot seem to cut and paste the line successfully. I get a couple bounching sounds (which I assume is a control-g - bell) and then it never pastes everything. From trying to break it up into smaller pieces, I am getting the impression that TELNET, or my bundled telnet client or server has a maximum line length that I had never bumped into. I did some googling and superusering, but did not find anything definitive.
