• Copy recordset data into multiple sheets to avoid problem of maximum rows limit in Excel VBA

  I am developing reporting application in Excel/vba 2003. VBA code sends search query to database and gets the data through recordset. It will then be copied to one of excel sheet. The rertrieved data looks like as shown below. ProductID--|---DateProcessed--|----State----- 1................|.. 1/1/2010..............|.....Picked Up 1................|.. 1/1/2010..............|.....Forward To Approver 1................|.. 1/2/2010..............|.....Approver Picked Up 1................|.. 1/3/2010..............|.....Approval Completed 2................|.. 1/1/2010..............|.....Picked Up 3................|.. 1/2/2010..............|.....Picked Up 3................|.. 1/2/2010..............|.....Forward To Approver The problem is data retrieved from search query is so huge that it goes above the excel row limit (65536 rows in excel 2003). So I want to split this data into two excel sheets. While spliting the data I want to ensure that the data for same product shoud remain in one sheet. For example, if the last record in the above result set is 65537th record then I also want to move all records for product 3 into new sheet. So sheet1 will contain records for product id 1 and 2 with total records = 65534. Sheet 2 will cotain records for product id 3 - with total records = 2. How can I acheive this in vba? If it is not possible, is there any alternative solution ? Thanks in Advance !

  Hi all, I wnat to update an XML document in my xml database (Marklogic). I have xml as input and want to replace each node that exists in the target xml. If a node does not exist it would be great if it gets added, but thats maybe another task. My XML in the database: <user> <username>username</username> <firstname>firstname</firstname> <lastname>lastname</lastname> <email>[email protected]</email> <comment>comment</comment> </user> The value of $user_xml: <user> <firstname>new firstname</firstname> <lastname>new lastname</lastname> </user> My function so far: declare function update-user ( $username as xs:string, $user_xml as node()) as empty-sequence() { let $uri := user-uri($username) return for $node in $user_xml/user return xdmp:node-replace(fn:doc($uri)/user/fn:node-name($node), $node) }; First of all I cannot iterate over $user_xml/user. • Multiple instances of this carousel on a single page - can't get it to work

I have tried and so far failed - by numbering the id "carousel" and so forth. Any help would be seriously appreciated. • How do you organise multiple git repositories?

  With SVN, I had a single big repository I kept on a server, and checked-out on a few machines. This was a pretty good backup system, and allowed me easily work on any of the machines. I could checkout a specific project, commit and it updated the 'master' project, or I could checkout the entire thing. Now, I have a bunch of git repositories, for various projects, several of which are on github. I also have the SVN repository I mentioned, imported via the git-svn command.. Basically, I like having all my code (not just projects, but random snippets and scripts, some things like my CV, articles I've written, websites I've made and so on) in one big repository I can easily clone onto remote machines, or memory-sticks/harddrives as backup. The problem is, since it's a private repository, and git doesn't allow checking out of a specific folder (that I could push to github as a separate project, but have the changes appear in both the master-repo, and the sub-repos) I could use the git submodule system, but it doesn't act how I want it too (submodules are pointers to other repositories, and don't really contain the actual code, so it's useless for backup) Currently I have a folder of git-repos (for example, ~/code_projects/proj1/.git/ ~/code_projects/proj2/.git/), and after doing changes to proj1 I do git push github, then I copy the files into ~/Documents/code/python/projects/proj1/ and do a single commit (instead of the numerous ones in the individual repos). Then do git push backupdrive1, git push mymemorystick etc So, the question: How do your personal code and projects with git repositories, and keep them synced and backed-up?

• Consuming WCF REST service in multiple ways (.Net, plain XML)

  I have become quite frustrated of WCF as I just want to use this simple scenario: Provide a webservice using REST, with a UriTemplate like /method/{param1}/{param2}/ and a 3th parameter that is sent to the service as XML as POST data. Use just plain XML, no SOAP overhead. Be able to generate a proxy in Visual Studio so a .Net using client can easily use the service (don't care about SOAP overhead here). I can create 1. and 2. but no way I can use 3. I tried adding both webHttpBinding and basicHttpBinding endpoints in my services config; I fooled around with the <services/> tag, but I just can't get this working. What am I missing here?! N.B. I checked out this article: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/186631/rest-soap-endpoints-for-a-wcf-service but nothing what is described there seems to work here?!

  I have a webservice (ASP.NET) deployed on a webfarm. A client application consumes it on daily basis. The problem is that some of its calls are duplicated (with difference of milliseconds). For example I have a function Foo(string a,string b). The client app calls this webmethod as Foo('test1','test2') once but my log shows that it is being called twice or sometimes 3 or 4 times randomly. Is this anything wrong with the webfarm or the code? Note that the webmethod has simple straighfarward insert and update statements.

I want to copy one user's settings to another. userid trait onoff ------ ----- ----- 1 1 on 1 2 on 1 3 on 1 4 on 2 1 off 2 2 off 2 3 off 2 4 off So I want to copy the onoff values from user 1 to 2, so that user2 has everything on when I'm done. update table set onoff = (select onoff from table where userid=1) where userid=2 that's the basic idea, but obviously doesn't work. I imagine I want the server to think in terms of a correlated subquery, but the outer part isn't a query, it's an update. Is this even possible in one step?

If a schema defines default values for attributes, I also want to know that somehow. I was able to validate a file if the schemas are known, I was able to parse a file without validation and I implemented a LSResourceResolver. However, I can't get all of it working together. How do I have to set up my (SAX) parser?

• how to bind/connect multiple UDP socket

  My initial UDP socket is binded to 127.0.0.1:9898. The first time that I get notified of incoming data by epoll/kqueue, I do recvfrom() and I fill a struct sockaddr called peer_name that contain the peer informations (ip:port). Then I create a new UPD socket using socket(), then I bind() this newly created socket to the same ip:port (127.0.0.1:9898) than my original socket. then I connect my newly created socket using connect() to the peer who just sent me something. I have the information in the struct sockaddr called peer_name. I then add my newly created socket in my epoll/kqueue vector and wait for notification. I would expect to ONLY receive UDP frame from the peer i'm ""connected to"". 1/ does netstat -a -p udp is suppose to show me the IP:PORT of the peer my newly created socket is ""connected to"" ? 2/ I'm probably doing something wrong since after creating my new socket, this socket receive all incoming UDP packets destinated to the IP:PORT I'm binded to, regardless of the source peer IP:PORT. I would like to see a working example of what I'm trying to do :) or any hint on what I'm doing wrong. thanks!

  I wanted to convert an array with some css, js and html files into a zip file and save them in ownCloud (it has it's own framework but it's knowledge is not required.) What I am saving is an infinite loop of zip files, as in, a zip inside a zip so I can't even check that the code is working correctly or not. Please help. The process was completed {3} milliseconds and data was received.", "Document.docx", "John", "1/1/2011", 45); Generate string looks like this then: Document Document.docx, was saved by John on 1/1/2011. The process was completed 45 milliseconds and data was received. Once such a string is received from a different application, what would be the easiest way to parse with regex and extract values Document.docx, John, 1/1/2011, 45 from it. I am looking for the easiest way to do this as we will have to parse a number of different input strings.

  Let's say I want to write a function that validates an email address with a regex. I write a little test to check my function and write the actual function. Make it pass. However, I can come up with a bunch of different ways to test the same function ([email protected]; [email protected]; test.test.com, etc). Do I put all the incantations that I need to check in the same, single test with several ASSERTS or do I write a new test for every single thing I can think of? Thanks!

• Thoughts on streamlining multiple .Net apps

  We have a series of ASP.Net applications that have been written over the course of 8 years. Mostly in the first 3-4 years. They have been running quite well with little maintenance, but new functionality is being requested and we are running into IDE and platform issues. The apps were written in .Net 1.x and 2.x and run in separate spaces but are presented as a single suite of applications which use a common navigation toolbar (implemented as a user control). Every time we want to add something to a menu in the nav we have to modify it in all the apps which is a pain. Also, the various versions of Crystal reports and that we used tables to organize the visual elements and we end up with a mess, especially with all the multi-platform .Net versions running. We need to streamline the suite of apps and make it easier to add on new apps without a hassle. We also need to bring all these apps under one .Net platform and IDE. In addition, there is a WordPress blog styled to match the style of the application suite "integrated" into the UI and a link to a MediaWiki Wiki application as well. My current thinking is to use an open source content management system (CMS) like Joomla (PHP based unfortunately, but it works well) as the user interface framework for style templating and menu management. Joomla's article management would allow us to migrate the Wiki content into articles which could be published without interfering with the .Net apps. Then essentially use an IFrame within an "article" to "host" the .Net application, then... Upgrade the .Net apps to VS2010, strip out all the common header/footer controls and migrate the styles to use the style sheets used in the CMS. As I write this, I certainly realize this is a lot of work and there are optimization issues which this may cause as well as using IFrames seems a bit like cheating and I've read about issues with IFrames. I know that we could use .Net application styling, but it seems like a lot more work (not sure really). Also, the use of a CMS to handle the blog and wiki also seems appealing, unless there is a .Net CMS out there that can handle all of these requirements. Given this information, I am looking to know if I am totally going in the wrong direction? We tried to use open source and integrate it over time, but not this has become hard to maintain. Am I not aware of some technology out there that will meet our requirements? Did we do this right and should we just focus on getting the .Net streamlined? I understand that no matter what we do, it's going to be a lot of work. The communities considerable experience would be helpful. Thanks!! PS - A complete rewrite is not an option.

• One repository/multiple projects without getting mixed up?

  Hello After reading Joel's last article on Mercurial, I'm giving it a shot on XP as a single-user, single-computer source control system. One thing I'd like to check, though, is: It'd be easier to just create a repository of all the tiny projects I keep in eg. C:\VB.Net\, but the result is that the changes I make to the different projects therein (C:\VB.Net\ProjectA\, C:\VB.Net\ProjectB\, etc.) will be mixed in a single changelog. But if I use a single repository for all projects, when I do diff's or go through the change history, will I be able to filter data so that I only see changes pertaining to a given project? Otherwise, is creating repositories in each project directory the only solution? Thank you.

"red" : "blue"; } Which doesn't work (j is undefined), presumably because we are in the named property datapoints, rather than an array element.   I'm trying to validate an XML file against a number of different schemas (apologies for the contrived example): a.xsd b.xsd c.xsd c.xsd in particular imports b.xsd and b.xsd imports a.xsd, using: <xs:include schemaLocation="b.xsd"/> I'm trying to do this via Xerces in the following manner: XMLSchemaFactory xmlSchemaFactory = new XMLSchemaFactory(); Schema schema = xmlSchemaFactory.newSchema(new StreamSource[] { new StreamSource(this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("a.xsd"), "a.xsd"), new StreamSource(this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("b.xsd"), "b.xsd"), new StreamSource(this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("c.xsd"), "c.xsd")}); Validator validator = schema.newValidator(); validator.validate(new StreamSource(new StringReader(xmlContent))); but this is failing to import all three of the schemas correctly resulting in cannot resolve the name 'blah' to a(n) 'group' component. I've validated this successfully using Python, but having real problems with Java 6.0 and Xerces 2.8.1. Can anybody suggest what's going wrong here, or an easier approach to validate my XML documents?
