  • Fix Google Reader Lag by Blocking Google Plus Button

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
Chrome: Many Google Reader fans have noticed, since the upgrades last month, that the service is unbearably slow. Speed things up by blocking the Google Plus button. Ever since the upgrade from the old Google Reader interface to the new integrated-with-Google-Plus interface, many Google Reader users were reporting a painfully long lag between reading entries in Reader. Previously hitting a keyboard shortcut or arrow button to move you through the new stories was instant with no noticeable lag. After the upgrade a lag of 3-5 seconds per individual story became common (we experienced this annoying lag around the How-To Geek office immediately after the upgrade). One of the theories was that the addition of the Google Plus button to every article was causing memory issues. Geeks Are Sexy tested the theory by blocking this address: plusone.google.com/u/0/_/+1/fastbutton using AdBlock. While people were reporting great success with that move (and you may find it works great too) we didn’t have any luck. What did work for us was installing Chromeblock and, while visiting reader.google.com, clicking on the ChromeBlock toolbar button and blocking Google +1. After that the 3-5 second lag vanished and browsing articles was as snappy as it had been. Hit up the link below to grab a copy of Chromeblock. • Cannot Update Adobe Creative Suit

    - by Lynda
I am attempting to check for updates using the Adobe Application Manager on Windows 8 and I get this error: The update server is not responding. The server might be offline temporarily, or the Internet or firewall settings may be incorrect. I have seen this error before on Windows 7 and remembered that I needed to disable the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. I navigated to the correct place but the Miniport Adapter was not there. After a bit of searching across several forums I saw a recommendation to change <logLevel>2</logLevel> to <logLevel>10</logLevel>. I attempted that and again it still did not work. I have also tried disabling my anti-virus protection and disabling Windows Firewall. Neither worked. I am not sure what else to try or do at this point. Are there any other recommendations to solve this issue? Notes: I am running Windows 8 Pro using the Creative Cloud Version of CS6. I check for updates by choosing Help Updates from within any Adobe Application I originally posted this question on the Adobe Forums and received no help there.

  • PDF rendering of images seems to vary from viewer to viewer with blurring?

    - by AndyL
I'm generating PDF figures in Adobe Illustrator CS5 that include embedded images. I've noticed that the images look dramatically different when I display the same PDF in Preview, Skim or Adobe Reader (I'm on OS X). See screenshots. Adobe Reader displays them "correctly" while Skim and Preview blurs the image out each in a different way. Is there a setting I can set when saving my PDF from Illustrator so that the images are displayed correctly in Skim and Preview? The PDF was generated in Illustrator and saved without any compression or downsampling. The original PDF is here: http://ge.tt/8iZMR2A Adobe Reader 9 Skim 1.3.18 Preview 4.2 Super User's client-side PDF renderer

  • Adobe Reader 9.0 memory leak while loading-unloading PDF files every one second indefinitely

    - by Total Starnger
I have c++ written MFC based application that has PDF object viewer as a part of the implementation. A whole thing works just fine with Adobe Reader 8.0. Once I switched to Adobe Reader 9.0 as a default PDF reader, I keep experiencing small memory leak that forces my application to crash within a half an hour of continuous loading-unloading different PDF files. Any ideas what might cause this memory leak and is there any cure besides replacing Adobe Reader 9.0 with anything else? (Works fine with Foxit PDF reader as well, by the way..)

  • How to Follow a Twitter Feed in Your RSS Reader

    - by Lori Kaufman
You probably have an RSS reader you really like and several feeds you follow. We encountered a situation recently where we had a Twitter feed for free eBooks (HundredZeros), but no RSS feed on the website and no RSS button on the Twitter feed. NOTE: See our recent article about HundredZeros for more information about it. We wanted to add the Twitter feed for HundredZeros (https://twitter.com/#!/HundredZeros) to our RSS reader so all our feeds are available in a centralized place. However, you can’t simply paste the URL for the Twitter feed into your RSS reader. You must determine the ID for the Twitter name first. There is a site, called TwIDder, that allows you to convert from a Twitter username to the corresponding ID and from an ID to a Twitter username. • Integrating Java webapps with Adobe Professional: Resources?

    - by Steve
I'm interested in learning what resources there are for integrating Java and Adobe Professional, in general. If it helps, my projects already use the Spring Framework. My boss is particularly interested in being able to fill out a PDF form from within a Java webapp and have that data go directly to our database. She mentioned that .net had a lot of bridges to Adobe Professional. I would rather new projects be in Java so I am eager to find if there are any easy bridges between Java and Adobe Professional. Thanks in advance for any information. So far a Google search on "Java Adobe Professional" didn't turn up anything, so I thought I would ask here. Thanks.

  • Adobe Illustrator - Objects are Expanded on Restart

    - by Shatou Dev
I use Adobe Illustrator extensively for mobile development. For example, for Android app, I have many illustrations with different densities and sizes. I use many effects such as outer glow, round corners and such. However, sometimes, when I close the .ai file and re-open it later, I found all my objects expanded. Effects are expanded. For example, the round corner effect is now expanded and I cannot re-size any object. I am using a MacBook Pro. I am suspecting both Time Machine and Dropbox. As much as I can recall, it also appears with CS6 version, not CS5.

  • Applescript Adobe Updater

    - by Alex
So, I am new to Applescript editor and I am trying to write code to automatically update computers. For some odd reason I can not seem to get Adobe to update successfully. I tried using Accessibility Inspector, but nothing appeared like AXButton So is there even a way of writing code for Adobe when there is not an AXButton option? This is the code: tell application "Adobe Application Manager" activate end tell delay 7.0 tell application "System Events" tell process "Adobe Application Manager" click button "Update" of window "Adobe Application Manager" end tell end tell and this is the error message: error "System Events got an error: Can’t get button \"Update\" of window \"Adobe Application Manager\" of process \"Adobe Application Manager\"." number -1728 from button "Update" of window "Adobe Application Manager" of process "Adobe Application Manager

  • Google Reader can read this RSS feed, why can't my RSS reader?

    - by Nicole
I have a website that I would like to subscribe to via my RSS reader. The website itself doesn't publicize its RSS feed, however when I used Google Reader it was able to find one, and it works perfectly well. Google Reader cites http://www.stratfor.com/rss.xml as the address for the RSS feed. However, when I try to enter that feed, it says "Page not found". I suspect that this is because that file does exist on the website, but is forbidden; and that for some weird reason google reader has access to it. Is that the case? Anyways, I would really like my own RSS reader to be able to subscribe to it, because it has functionalities that Google reader does not. Besides, it intrigues me -- how come Google reader can read it, but other RSS reader cannot?

  • How to change the fonts used in Foxit Reader?

    - by user982438
I really want to use Foxit Reader as my default PDF reader for its Tab Interface, and low memory footprint. Having tried mutiple times over the years the only thing that is stopping me are the Fonts. PDF in Adobe Reader looks Regular, but PDF Rendered in Foxit Looks Ugly. Would this solution works in Chrome as well? Since i record Chrome is using Foxit Reader as its embedded PDF engine. And is there any reasons why Fonts are used differently in Adobe and Foxit Reader?

  • Where to go after Adobe Flex? [closed]

    - by jan halfar
After this post http://blogs.adobe.com/flex/2011/11/your-questions-about-flex.html and especially this paragraph: ... Does Adobe recommend we use Flex or HTML5 for our enterprise application development? In the long-term, we believe HTML5 will be the best technology for enterprise application development. We also know that, currently, Flex has clear benefits for large-scale client projects typically associated with desktop application profiles. ... Make no mistake, the days of Flex are over. Thus a lot of people are asking themselves: Which technology(ies) will solve their and their customers problems in a future without flex? P.S.: Obviously the correct answer for adobe would have been " ...Since we believe, that HTML5 will be the best technology enterprise application development, we will ensure that it will be targeted by future releases of the Flex framework ..."

  • Flash Player error logs on Mac OS X

    - by paleozogt
    I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.8 running Flash Player 10,0,32,18. Flash Player is dumping giant amounts of error logging into the system log (stuff like "bit length overflow" and "code 0 bits 6-7"). Here's a tiny sampling: Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 6 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:41 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 5 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 6 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 5 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:09:55 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 0 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 12 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 6 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:20 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 5 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 0 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:21 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 12 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 7 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:10:31 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 12 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 7->6 Oct 14 13:11:06 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 5->6 Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:07 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:15 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:15 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 3 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 7 bits 6->7 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 0 bits 4->5 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 14 bits 4->5 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 10 bits 5->4 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: code 4 bits 5->4 Oct 14 13:11:26 thorst-2 [0x0-0x58058].com.adobe.flash-10.0[2416]: bit length overflow Any ideas on what this may be about?
