• Ubuntu 14.04 Fatal Exception

- by user286534
I use Ubuntu 14.04, 64-bit. I installed Virtualbox and was testing another Linux OS (Deepin). My system froze and I could not get to a TTY session to reboot. I had to do a hard restart and when Ubuntu restarted I got various error codes one of which was "kernel panic - fatal exception in interrupt" Booting to Advance mode and attempting repairs did not work (fsck, grub repair, etc) I reinstalled Ubuntu and chose the option to keep my files intact. I can now access my system but many programs I have installed do not work. My question is; I have a Deja-Dup backup (but only of my Home directory), is it better to restore my backup files or do I have to reinstall all of my programs? The weird thing is, the programs I verified using the Software Center to see if they were installed are checked as installed, but won't appear in Dash.

• Fatal Scroll…

- by farid
Hi. Actually I am a glad to writing with geekwithblogs service! but I decided to write a blog to improve my skills on different aspects. This post’s title is “Fatal Scroll”. Motivation for this post was the process of changing my blog theme. When I was trying to change the blog theme, encountered a killing scroll in configuration page of blog. you can see the sample in this picture. (10 inch screen) All I saw in my screen without scrolling was that. I tried to change my blog a few times. but the scroll slows down my try !! after all I gave up changing the FK theme!! In my opinion there is a check list for designing efficient and useful forms.(if you care about it!!) First of all, don’t forget wide range of screen sizes and screen resolutions. Second, always consider the cost of checking the changes made in fields. Third, never forget the scroll. scroll should not hide any main functionality (like save in this case). Forth, don’t use real data to preview the result. (like loading full blog to check new theme) and don’t forget didn’t say this list is a definitive list data entry form usability testing! That’s it! MY FIRST BLOG POST!!

• How can I catch a "catchable fatal error" on PHP type hinting?

- by Ho
Hello, I am trying to implement Type Hinting of PHP5 on one of my class, class ClassA { public function method_a (ClassB $b) {} } class ClassB {} class ClassWrong{} Correct usage: $a = new ClassA; $a->method_a(new ClassB); producing error: $a = new ClassA; $a->method_a(new ClassWrong); Catchable fatal error: Argument 1 passed to ClassA::method_a() must be an instance of ClassB, instance of ClassWrong given... May I know if it is possible to catch that error(since it says "catchable")? and if yes, how? Thank you.

• Banshee encountered a Fatal Error (sqlite error 11: database disk image is malformed)

- by Nik
I am running ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, and recently I am helping in testing out indicator-weather using the unstable buids. However there was a bug which caused my system to freeze suddenly (due to indicator-weather not ubuntu) and the only way to recover is to do a hard reset of the system. This happened a couple of times. And when i tried to open banshee after a couple of such resets I get the following fatal error which forces me to quit banshee. The screenshot is not clear enough to read the error, so I am posting it below, An unhandled exception was thrown: Sqlite error 11: database disk image is malformed (SQL: BEGIN TRANSACTION; DELETE FROM CoreSmartPlaylistEntries WHERE SmartPlaylistID IN (SELECT SmartPlaylistID FROM CoreSmartPlaylists WHERE IsTemporary = 1); DELETE FROM CoreSmartPlaylists WHERE IsTemporary = 1; COMMIT TRANSACTION) at Hyena.Data.Sqlite.Connection.CheckError (Int32 errorCode, System.String sql) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hyena.Data.Sqlite.Connection.Execute (System.String sql) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hyena.Data.Sqlite.HyenaSqliteCommand.Execute (Hyena.Data.Sqlite.HyenaSqliteConnection hconnection, Hyena.Data.Sqlite.Connection connection) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. at System.Reflection.MonoCMethod.Invoke (System.Object obj, BindingFlags invokeAttr, System.Reflection.Binder binder, System.Object[] parameters, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Reflection.MonoCMethod.Invoke (BindingFlags invokeAttr, System.Reflection.Binder binder, System.Object[] parameters, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Reflection.ConstructorInfo.Invoke (System.Object[] parameters) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Activator.CreateInstance (System.Type type, Boolean nonPublic) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Activator.CreateInstance (System.Type type) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Banshee.Gui.GtkBaseClient.Startup () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at Hyena.Gui.CleanRoomStartup.Startup (Hyena.Gui.StartupInvocationHandler startup) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 .NET Version: 2.0.50727.1433 OS Version: Unix 2.6.35.27 Assembly Version Information: gkeyfile-sharp (1.0.0.0) Banshee.AudioCd (1.9.0.0) Banshee.MiniMode (1.9.0.0) Banshee.CoverArt (1.9.0.0) indicate-sharp (0.4.1.0) notify-sharp (0.4.0.0) Banshee.SoundMenu (1.9.0.0) Banshee.Mpris (1.9.0.0) Migo (1.9.0.0) Banshee.Podcasting (1.9.0.0) Banshee.Dap (1.9.0.0) Banshee.LibraryWatcher (1.9.0.0) Banshee.MultimediaKeys (1.9.0.0) Banshee.Bpm (1.9.0.0) Banshee.YouTube (1.9.0.0) Banshee.WebBrowser (1.9.0.0) Banshee.Wikipedia (1.9.0.0) pango-sharp (2.12.0.0) Banshee.Fixup (1.9.0.0) Banshee.Widgets (1.9.0.0) gio-sharp (2.14.0.0) gudev-sharp (1.0.0.0) Banshee.Gio (1.9.0.0) Banshee.GStreamer (1.9.0.0) System.Configuration (2.0.0.0) NDesk.DBus.GLib (1.0.0.0) gconf-sharp (2.24.0.0) Banshee.Gnome (1.9.0.0) Banshee.NowPlaying (1.9.0.0) Mono.Cairo (2.0.0.0) System.Xml (2.0.0.0) Banshee.Core (1.9.0.0) Hyena.Data.Sqlite (1.9.0.0) System.Core (3.5.0.0) gdk-sharp (2.12.0.0) Mono.Addins (0.4.0.0) atk-sharp (2.12.0.0) Hyena.Gui (1.9.0.0) gtk-sharp (2.12.0.0) Banshee.ThickClient (1.9.0.0) Nereid (1.9.0.0) NDesk.DBus.Proxies (0.0.0.0) Mono.Posix (2.0.0.0) NDesk.DBus (1.0.0.0) glib-sharp (2.12.0.0) Hyena (1.9.0.0) System (2.0.0.0) Banshee.Services (1.9.0.0) Banshee (1.9.0.0) mscorlib (2.0.0.0) Platform Information: Linux 2.6.35-27-generic i686 unknown GNU/Linux Disribution Information: [/etc/lsb-release] DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=maverick DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.10" [/etc/debian_version] squeeze/sid Just to make it clear, this happened only after the hard resets and not before. • Where should I handle fatal exceptions

- by Puckl
For example, I have a controller that loads a file and hands it over to the processing. Should I handle the exception in the file loader and return Null if something is wrong, or should I throw the exception and handle it in the controller? Without the file the rest of the program can´t work. Where should I handle a exception that shuts down the program properly? I want to shut down an Android application properly.

I have this weird issue on my Mac OS X 10.7.5 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/include/python2.7/Python.h:33:10: fatal error: 'stdio.h' file not found What caused the above error? This error has been bugging me and i can't install mysql-python as i'm stuck with this step. I'm using Python 2.7.3. Things like Google App Engine ( python ), python script, tornado generally works on my mac. But not mysql-python. I've install MySQL using the dmg image and have copied the mysql folder to /usr/local/ How do i fix this? ======UPDATE====== I've ran the command, and tried to install mysql-python by running sudo python setup.py install. But received the following: running install running bdist_egg running egg_info writing MySQL_python.egg-info/PKG-INFO writing top-level names to MySQL_python.egg-info/top_level.txt writing dependency_links to MySQL_python.egg-info/dependency_links.txt writing MySQL_python.egg-info/PKG-INFO writing top-level names to MySQL_python.egg-info/top_level.txt writing dependency_links to MySQL_python.egg-info/dependency_links.txt reading manifest file 'MySQL_python.egg-info/SOURCES.txt' reading manifest template 'MANIFEST.in' writing manifest file 'MySQL_python.egg-info/SOURCES.txt' installing library code to build/bdist.macosx-10.6-intel/egg running install_lib running build_py copying MySQLdb/release.py -> build/lib.macosx-10.6-intel-2.7/MySQLdb running build_ext gcc-4.2 not found, using clang instead building '_mysql' extension clang -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -dynamic -g -O2 -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -Dversion_info=(1,2,4,'rc',5) -D__version__=1.2.4c1 -I/usr/local/mysql/include -I/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/include/python2.7 -c _mysql.c -o build/temp.macosx-10.6-intel-2.7/_mysql.o -Os -g -fno-common -fno-strict-aliasing -arch x86_64 In file included from _mysql.c:29: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/include/python2.7/Python.h:33:10: fatal error: 'stdio.h' file not found #include <stdio.h> ^ 1 error generated. error: command 'clang' failed with exit status 1 What other possible ways can i fix it? thanks! • Fatal error 9001 on shared SQL Server 2008

- by user643192
I've asked this same question on StackOverflow, but I might actually have a better chance for an answer here so am posting here as well. I know this question has been asked here before, but none of the suggestions have worked for me. I have an ASP.NET MVC (v. 3) website on a shared server. The website was working fine for a few weeks now, until I started getting a Fatal Error 9001 error straight after login. Because this is a shared server, there are only very limited things I can do with the database (and I don't know that much about databases anyway). The help desk insist that there is nothing wrong with their server. I got various suggestions from them: Upgrading to the business plan because I am out of space (first suggestion) Even though the .mdb file is small, the .ldb can grow very quickly. The .ldb file is probably taking up all the space. I have 100MB available, the database size is 16.5MB. Can the .ldb file take up the remaining space? On querying this with the helpdesk, they admitted that my entire db is only 25MB. There is something wrong with my SQL queries and I should check the website. I'm using EF with linq to SQL. Everything was working fine until now... Can there be something that goes wrong in the queries that causes this sort of error? There is nothing wrong to be seen in the db logs, so this error cannot possibly have happened. I should log it next time it happens and contact again. I found some posts suggesting that restoring a DB backup can get rid of the issue. I do not have a recent backup, and can't take a new one because of a fatal error 9001 occurring. Since this is a shared server I have about 0 authority to execute anything against the DB (think CHECKDB, truncating the log, etc.). So I am at my wits end pretty much. What else can I do/try to get my website moving again?

• How do I fix issue causing "incomplete startup packet" log message trying to implement replication in Postgresql?

- by colour me brad
I've got two cloud servers running Ubuntu 13.04 and PostgreSQL 9.2. I've primarily used this blog post to aid me in setting things up. However, to do the initial database dump to the slave I'm using pg_start_backup/pg_stop_backup strategy used in this other blog post. I've read through the docs and postgres wikis as well. I ran into several problems I was able to solve, but I can't get past this wretched "the database is starting up" failure. I'm not sure if seeing "cp: cannot stat '/var/lib/postgresql/9.2/archive/00000001000000000000003A': No such file or directory" after "consistent recover state reached" is normal or the first sign of a problem. The searching I've done on "the database is starting up" and "incomplete startup packet" tells me that something is sending empty TCP packets to the slave. The only thing that even knows about the slave is the master, so I'm not sure why it's sending empty packets... Has anyone worked with this and have an idea what might be going wrong? The postgres log on the slave looks like so: 2013-08-26 13:01:38 CDT LOG: entering standby mode 2013-08-26 13:01:38 CDT LOG: restored log file "000000010000000000000039" from archive 2013-08-26 13:01:38 CDT LOG: incomplete startup packet 2013-08-26 13:01:39 CDT LOG: redo starts at 0/39000020 2013-08-26 13:01:39 CDT LOG: consistent recovery state reached at 0/390000E0 cp: cannot stat '/var/lib/postgresql/9.2/archive/00000001000000000000003A': No such file or directory 2013-08-26 13:01:39 CDT LOG: streaming replication successfully connected to primary 2013-08-26 13:01:39 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:39 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:40 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:40 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:41 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:42 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:42 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:43 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:43 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:44 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:44 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:01:44 CDT LOG: incomplete startup packet 2013-08-26 13:03:27 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:03:27 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:03:30 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up 2013-08-26 13:03:30 CDT FATAL: the database system is starting up thanks! brad

• postmap: fatal: open database /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd.db: Permission denied

- by James Benders
Hi, I'm configurint Postfix to use external smtp. For this, I use the following tutorial: http://carlton.oriley.net/blog/?p=31 After following it, I found in the logs that /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd.db couldn't be read. The file didn't exist. I used postmap hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd (http://postfix.state-of-mind.de/patrick.koetter/smtpauth/smtp_auth_mailservers.html) as root, but I get: postmap: fatal: open database /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd.db: Permission denied Why do I get this? Thanks.

• fatal: git-http-push-failed (return code 22)

- by Mariusz
Hello, that's me again. After having problem with estabilishing connection to github.com now I have a problem with next step - pushing. I need to mention, that I am novice at GIT service, and this whole Distributed Subversion Checking Systems world.. I have done git init, then git add *.h and git add *.cpp, but currently git status does not print anything in "# On branch master" section? Previously It was correctly printing whole list of added files, now this list is gone. Nextly, I have executed: git remote add origin https://github.com/mgeeky/disasm.git and error has occured after: git push origin master Username: Password: error: Cannot access URL https://github.com/mgeeky/disasm.git/, return code 22 fatal: git-http-push failed What should I do now? I've tried: git push origin Username: Password: No refs in common and none specified; doing nothing. Perhaps you should specify a branch such as 'master'. Everything up-to-date But it seems to be okey.

• mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Fatal error with Plesk 11.5.30 and php-pear

- by netsetter
Just upgraded to Plesk 11.5.30 and found out that sending SMTP emails with php pear aren't working anymore with following error message: mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'Mail.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/check.php on line 4 I know in the new Plesk 11.5 they changed the structure of all vhosts, but the strange thing is that require_once('System.php') placed into the same directory and file is working correctly with no errors and is returning bool(true). Any hints where I could have a look with this mod_fcgid error when require_once('System.php') is working but require_once('Mail.php') isn't working?

• Remote Desktop closes with Fatal Error (Error Code: 5)

- by Swinders
We have one PC (Windows XP SP3) that we can not log onto using a Remote Desktop session. Logging on to the PC directly (sitting in front of it using the connected keyboard and monitor) work fine. From a second PC (tried a number of different ones but all Windows XP SP3) I run 'mstsc' and type in PC name to connect to. This shows the login box which we can enter the correct login details and click OK. Within a few second we get an error: Title: Fatal Error (Error Code:5) Error: Your Remote Desktop session is about to end. This computer might be low on virtual memory. Close your other programs, and then try connecting to the remote computer again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support. None of the computers we are using are low on memory (2Gb+) and we let windows manage the virtual memory side of things. We do not see this with any other PC and do use Remote Desktop in meeting rooms to connect to user PCs with no problems.
