  Pre-note: This is not a problem I am having with Minecraft. All answers I can find seem to be Minecraft issues. Error: could not create the Java Virtual Machine. Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit. I get this error when I try to do something Java related. I cannot launch a .jar without this error coming up and when I try to install JDK, I get this error. This has been plauging me for a while and I was not able to research an answer so I thought I would ask it myself. EDIT: Windows 7 (x64) Dell Studio Laptop, 4GB RAM, external Radeon HD 6950 Graphics Card. I have tried uninstalling all JVMs and reinstalling but it didn't work, although I cannot remember how thorough I was so I may try again. • Why won't my Broadcom BCM4312 LP-PHY work with the STA driver?

  I tried the steps here for a 4312: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx Both of these: sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb wl sudo modprobe wl return: FATAL: Module wl not found. FATAL: Error running install command for wl (this one is only for the second one actually) I tried the broadcom-sta, didn't work. What's confusing is down below in the next steps for STA with internet access it says to use the bcmwl one. FATAL: Error running install command for wl Then I do the modprobe wl commands listed above and it gives the above listed errors. It didn't work with the broadcom-sta driver either. I installed the b43 ones but nothing happened, and I don't know why so those are still installed. firmware-b43legacy-installer, b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43-lpphy-installer (yes it is a LP-PHY) are currently installed. If I go into System Settings Software Sources Additional Drivers it says "Using Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver source from bcmwl-kernel-source (proprietary) But bcmwl-kernel-source isn't installed. I could try again but I remember rebooting and it still said this. What's funny is it found wireless networks during the Ubuntu setup/installation, I don't remember if I got it to connect or not though. I think it kept asking for a password when I put it in (yes it was right I showed password and looked at it) so I just ignored it. But right now the Enable Wireless option in the top right is just gone, it's just Enable Networking and I'm on ethernet on this HP Pavilion dv4-1435dx right here. If I run rfkill list it shows: 0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no It was hard blocked at the beginning but unblocking it makes no change. Also it's a touch sensitive button, and it appears to be always orange no matter if it's enabled or not because when I touch it the hard blocked changes between yes and no in rfkill list. I think it was blue for a minute at one point. What is going on?!?! Help me! Lol, thanks for any and all of your time guys. Oh yeah this is Ubuntu 12.10 fresh install.

• Can't clone gitosis-admin.git local from my snow leopard server running gitosis

  I've installed gitosis as described here: http://gist.github.com/264304 One of the things that I had to adjust was to give my git user permissions to use ssh (which I did trough server admin - access - ssh and added the 'git' user). When I ssh from my local machine (mac osx) as the git user, I get this response: PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 bash: gitosis-serve: command not found Connection to 10.0.0.108 closed. Which I think is normal, because in Pro GIT the author says you should get something like this if you try ssh'ing to the server using your git user: PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 fatal: unrecognized command 'gitosis-serve schacon@quaternion' Connection to gitserver closed. So far so good, I think? Now when I try to clone my gitosis-admin.git repository using this command: $git clone [email protected]:gitosis-admin.git I get this: Initialized empty Git repository in /Users/joggink/gitosis-admin/.git/ bash: gitosis-serve: command not found fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly So after doing some searching, I found an answer here on serverfault claiming I should use ssh:// as protocol for my git clone (which I thought is the default git protocol?) However, when I try: $git clone ssh://[email protected]:gitosis-admin.git This is the response: The authenticity of host ' (::1)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is 80:4d:77:c7:78:cb:c9:42:e3:82:06:7c:fe:c0:08:ce. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes Warning: Permanently added '' (RSA) to the list of known hosts. • PHP crashing on occasion - APC error?

  Any thoughts on this? We've had this happen twice recently. Basically, every page throws a fatal error, fixed by an apache restart. Here's what's in the log, repeated over and over.   I have a number of CentOS 5.x and RHEL 5.x systems whose SSH daemons become unresponsive, preventing remote logins. The typical error from the connecting side is: $ ssh db1 db1 : ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host Examining /var/log/messages after a forced reboot shows the following leading up to the restart: Dec 10 10:45:51 db1 sshd[14593]: fatal: Privilege separation user sshd does not exist Dec 10 10:46:02 db1 sshd[14595]: fatal: Privilege separation user sshd does not exist Dec 10 10:46:54 db1 sshd[14711]: fatal: Privilege separation user sshd does not exist Dec 10 10:47:38 db1 sshd[14730]: fatal: Privilege separation user sshd does not exist These systems use LDAP authentication and the nsswitch.conf file is configured to look at local "files" first. [root@db1 ~]# cat /etc/nsswitch.conf # # /etc/nsswitch.conf # passwd: files ldap shadow: files ldap group: files ldap hosts: files dns The Privilege-separated SSH user exists in the local password file. [root@db1 ~]# grep ssh /etc/passwd sshd:x:74:74:Privilege-separated SSH:/var/empty/sshd:/sbin/nologin Any ideas on what the root cause is? I did not see any Red Hat errata that covers this.

• Cannot log in to the desktop on ubuntu 11.10?

  The problem is, I could log in under the terminal, i could ifup eth0, i could do anything I want in the terminal, but if I use ctrl+alt+f7 goto the gnome login screen, after I input the correct password, the system just send me back to same login screen again. I have created a new user, but it didn't work. I have change all the files under ~/ to jichao:jichao(which is my username) with chown -hR jichao:jichao /home/jichao, but it didn't work too. I searched the internet, somebody said I should see the logs under /var/log/gdm, but there is not a /var/log/gdm directory in my box.   I've read as many search results I could find on this dreaded problem, unfortunatelly, each one seems to focus on a specific function call. My problem is that I get the same error from multiple functions, which I am guessing are being called back from functions that I use.   In my early days of programming I often used to get memory related fatal errors in the following format: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of <some big number> bytes exhausted (tried to allocate <some small number> bytes) in /path/to/filename.php on line <some line number> I'm a little embarrassed to state that even though I have figured out how to solve them and take steps to avoid them altogether, I'm still not quite sure what exactly does the message translate to in simple words. For example, if I get a message such as: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4000 bytes) in ........ on line 34 As things stand at the moment, I assume it to be stating that the script consumes 67108864 bytes of data, but only 4000 bytes are available during runtime. Am I right in my assumption? If not, what's the correct interpretation?

  I am trying to setup a server where my git repo would be accessible with HTTP(S). I am using gitolite and nginx (and gitlab for web interface but I doubt it makes any difference). No matter what I do it appears to be disabled (I want to enable it). The configuration is set to enforced and the server has been rebooted many a time however sestatus still returns SELinux status: disabled. Can anyone shine some light on this problem?   I have a VPS on 1and1 similar to this configuration (512MB, burst up to 2GB). I run a web service where I crawl the web and notify my users through email and sms when a certain online data feed changes. When I send the emails out, I just have PHP loop through the recipients list and send the emails out using the mail() function. Whenever I try to send a large volume of these messages out, my server starts acting funny. I can't even run an 'ls' sometimes because the shell tells me it 'cannot allocate memory'. The shell is unusable and yet my website is being served up fine.   I've been trying to host ownCloud on my server but everytime I try to it tells me this : Your web server is not yet properly setup to allow files synchronization because the WebDAV interface seems to be broken. Please double check the installation guides. This is my setup : Windows Server 2012 R2 IIS 8.5 PHP 5.5.11 ownCloud 6.0.3 MySQL 5.6.17 I tried google the error but I can't seem to find anything usefull. Some say I should try if this works : https://cloud.mcsoftworks.net/remote.php/webdav/ and yes I can navigate to this folder and I can open files from there. The calendar works and I can also just upload files from here https://cloud.mcsoftworks.net/ the only thing that doesn't seem to work is the sync client. • Localhost has just stopped working (using xampp)

  I installed Xampp to use for local development of a Drupal site. Its been working fine out of the box until now. The main Xampp localhost welcome menu loads, however my subdirectory (localhost/drupal) doesn't. It just spins in the browser for ages and nothing happens. Just a blank screen. I've tried the edit people suggest in the hosts file but that hasn't work and I'm getting no errors so not sure what to do. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?
