  • Line End Problem Reading with Scanner Class in Java

    - by dikbas
    I am not an experienced Java programmer and i'm trying to write some text to a file and then read it with Scanner. I know there are lots of ways of doing this, but i want to write records to file with delimiters, then read the pieces. The problem is so small. When I look the output some printing isn't seen(shown in below). I mean the bold line in the Output that is only written "Scanner". I would be appreciated if anyone can answer why "String: " isn't seen there. (Please answer just what i ask) I couldn't understand if it is a simple printing problem or a line end problem with "\r\n". Here is the code and output: import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Scanner; public class Tmp { public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException { int i; boolean b; String str; FileWriter fout = new FileWriter("test.txt"); fout.write("Testing|10|true|two|false\r\n"); fout.write("Scanner|12|one|true|"); fout.close(); FileReader fin = new FileReader("Test.txt"); Scanner src = new Scanner(fin).useDelimiter("[|\\*]"); while (src.hasNext()) { if (src.hasNextInt()) { i = src.nextInt(); System.out.println("int: " + i); } else if (src.hasNextBoolean()) { b = src.nextBoolean(); System.out.println("boolean: " + b); } else { str = src.next(); System.out.println("String: " + str); } } fin.close(); } } Here is the output: String: Testing int: 10 boolean: true String: two String: false Scanner int: 12 String: one boolean: true

  • Can you write files in Chrome 8?

    - by greggory.hz
    I'm wondering if, with the new File API exposed in Chrome (I'm not concerned with cross-browser support at this time), it would be possible to write back to files opened via a file input. You can see an example of what I'm trying to accomplish here: http://www.grehz.com/ide. I know I can use server side scripts to dynamically create the files and allow the user to download them normally. I'm hoping that there's a way to accomplish this purely client side. I had read somewhere that you can write to files opened via a file input. I haven't been able to find any examples of this, though I have seen passing references to a FileWriter class. I would be completely not surprised if this wasn't possible though (it seems likely that there are security issues with this). Just looking for some guidance or resources. UPDATE: I was reading here: http://dev.w3.org/2009/dap/file-system/file-writer.html As I was playing around in Chrome, it looks like FileSaver and FileWriter are not implemented, but BlobBuilder is. I can call getBlob() on the BB object, is there any way I can then save that without FileSave or FileWriter?

I want to select multiple files. I've 2000 files and I've given them numbering name from 1 to 2000 as "1.html". So I want to give for loop like for(i=1;i<=2000;i++) and after executing separate txt file should be generated.

  • FileNotFound exception when trying to write to a file

    - by Chris Knight
    OK, I'm feeling like this should be easy but am obviously missing something fundamental to file writing in Java. I have this: File someFile = new File("someDirA/someDirB/someDirC/filename.txt"); and I just want to write to the file. However, while someDirA exists, someDirB (and therefore someDirC and filename.txt) do not exist. Doing this: BufferedWriter writer = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(someFile)); throws a FileNotFoundException. Well, er, no kidding. I'm trying to create it after all. Do I need to break up the file path into components, create the directories and then create the file before instantiating the FileWriter object?

  • 'Programming by Coincidence' Excercise: Java File Writer

    - by Tapas
    I just read the article Programming by Coincidence. At the end of the page there are excercises. A few code fragments that are cases of "programming by coincidence". But I cant figure out the error in this piece: This code comes from a general-purpose Java tracing suite. The function writes a string to a log file. It passes its unit test, but fails when one of the Web developers uses it. What coincidence does it rely on? public static void debug(String s) throws IOException { FileWriter fw = new FileWriter("debug.log", true); fw.write(s); fw.flush(); fw.close(); } What is wrong about this?

  • Accents in file name using Java on Solaris

    - by Stef
    I have a problem where I can't write files with accents in the file name on Solaris. Given following code public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Charset = "+ Charset.defaultCharset().toString()); System.out.println("testéörtkuoë"); FileWriter fw = null; try { fw = new FileWriter("testéörtkuoë"); fw.write("testéörtkuoëéörtkuoë"); fw.close(); I get following output Charset = ISO-8859-1 test??rtkuo? and I get a file called "test??rtkuo?" Based on info I found on StackOverflow, I tried to call the Java app by adding "-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8" at startup. This returns following output Charset = UTF-8 testéörtkuoë But the filename is still "test??rtkuo?" Any help is much appreciated. Stef

  • Sending multiple requests simultaneously to the Server using Selenium with Java

    - by gagneet
    I wish to send multiple requests to the server, simultaneously. The problem statement will be: Read a text file containing multiple URL’s. Open each URL in the web browser. Collect the Cookie information for each call, and store it to a file. Send another call: http://myserver.com:1111/cookie?out=text Store the output (body text) of this file to a separate file for each call made in 4 Open the next URL in the text file given in 1 and repeat steps 1-6. The above is to be run with multi-threading, so that I can send around 5-10 URL requests simultaneously. I have implemented something in Selenium using Java, but have not been able to do the multi-threading approach. Code is given below: package com.cookie.selenium; import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.BufferedWriter; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.IOException; import com.thoughtworks.selenium.*; public class ReadURL extends SeleneseTestCase { public void setUp() throws Exception { setUp("http://www.myserver.com/", "*chrome"); } public static void main(String args[]) { Selenium selenium = new DefaultSelenium("localhost", 4444, "*chrome", "http://myserver"); selenium.start(); selenium.setTimeout("30000000"); try { BufferedReader inputfile = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("C:\\url.txt")); BufferedReader cookietextfile = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("C:\\text.txt")); BufferedWriter cookiefile = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("C:\\cookie.txt")); BufferedWriter outputfile = null; String str; String cookiestr = "http://myserver.com:1111/cookie?out=text"; String filename = null; int i = 0; while ((str = inputfile.readLine()) != null) { selenium.createCookie("T=222redHyt345&f=5&r=fg&t=100",""); selenium.open( str ); selenium.waitForPageToLoad("120000"); String urlcookie = selenium.getCookie(); System.out.println( "URL :" + str ); System.out.println( "Cookie :" + urlcookie ); cookiefile.write( urlcookie ); cookiefile.newLine(); selenium.open( cookiestr ); selenium.waitForPageToLoad("120000"); String bodytext = selenium.getBodyText(); System.out.println("Body Text :" + bodytext); filename = "C:\\cookies\\" + i + ".txt"; outputfile = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter( filename )); outputfile.write( bodytext ); outputfile.newLine(); i++; } inputfile.close(); outputfile.close(); cookiefile.close(); selenium.stop(); } catch (IOException e) { } } } What basically I am trying to do here is, open the first set of URL from a text file (which has list given of all the URL's i wish to open). Then when I capture the cookie information from here and store it, I open another window to output all the cookie information for that server to my browser window. This works fine when I do outside of Selenium code, but when I do it within the above code, it opens a "Save As..." popup and my tests stop. :-( I wish to save the contents of that second call to a new file, but have not been able to do the same. Also, if I have to send multiple such requests to the server, how would that be possible in Java using a Selenium Framework. Currently, I am opening multiple instances of the framework and running them with different parameters :-(

  • Robotium - Write to file in eclipse workspace or computer file system

The file writer code is as follows: XMLBuilder builder = new XMLBuilder(); Document doc = builder.build(bookList); DOMImplementation impl = doc.getImplementation(); DOMImplementationLS implLS = (DOMImplementationLS) impl.getFeature("LS", "3.0"); LSSerializer ser = implLS.createLSSerializer(); String out = ser.writeToString(doc); //System.out.println(out); try{ FileWriter fstream = new FileWriter(location); BufferedWriter outwrite = new BufferedWriter(fstream); outwrite.write(out); outwrite.close(); }catch (Exception e){ } The above code does write an xml document. However, in the XML header, it is an attribute that the file is encoded in UTF-16. when i read in the file, i get the error: "content not allowed in prolog" this error does not occur when the encoding attribute is manually changed to UTF-8. I am trying to get the above code to write an XML document encoded in UTF-8, or successfully parse a UTF-16 file. the code for parsing in is DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder loader = factory.newDocumentBuilder(); Document document = loader.parse(filename); the last line returns the error.

  • Cannot write to SD card -- canWrite is returning false

    Sorry for the ambiguous title but I'm doing the following to write a simple string to a file: try { File root = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(); if (root.canWrite()){ System.out.println("Can write."); File def_file = new File(root, "default.txt"); FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(def_file); BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(fw); String defbuf = "default"; out.write(defbuf); out.flush(); out.close(); } else System.out.println("Can't write."); }catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } But root.canWrite() seems to be returning false everytime. I am not running this off of an emulator, I have my android Eris plugged into my computer via USB and running the app off of my phone via Eclipse. Is there a way of giving my app permission so this doesn't happen? Also, this code seems to be create the file default.txt but what if it already exists, will it ignore the creation and just open it to write or do I have to catch something like FileAlreadyExists(if such an exception exists) which then just opens it and writes? Thanks for any help guys.

  • Logging to a file on Android

    - by Greg B
    Is there any way of retrieving log messages from an Android handset. I'm building an application which uses the GPS of my HTC Hero. I can run and debug the application from eclipse but this isn't a good use case of GPS, sat at my desk. When I fire the app up when I am walking around, I get an intermittent exception. Is there anyway I can output these exceptions to a text file on the SD card or output calls to Log.x("") to a text file so that I can see what the exception is. Thanks EDIT : Solution Here is the code I finally went with... Thread.currentThread().setUncaughtExceptionHandler(new Thread.UncaughtExceptionHandler() { @Override public void uncaughtException(Thread thread, Throwable ex) { PrintWriter pw; try { pw = new PrintWriter( new FileWriter(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/rt.log", true)); ex.printStackTrace(pw); pw.flush(); pw.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } }); I had to wrap the line pw = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/rt.log", true)); in a try/catch as Eclipse would not let me compile the app. It kept saying Unhandled exception type IOException 1 quick fix Sorround with try/catch So I did and it all works which is fine by me but it does make me wonder what Eclipse was on about...

  • How to simulate inner join on very large files in java (without running out of memory)

    - by Constantin
    I am trying to simulate SQL joins using java and very large text files (INNER, RIGHT OUTER and LEFT OUTER). The files have already been sorted using an external sort routine. The issue I have is I am trying to find the most efficient way to deal with the INNER join part of the algorithm. Right now I am using two Lists to store the lines that have the same key and iterate through the set of lines in the right file once for every line in the left file (provided the keys still match). In other words, the join key is not unique in each file so would need to account for the Cartesian product situations ... left_01, 1 left_02, 1 right_01, 1 right_02, 1 right_03, 1 left_01 joins to right_01 using key 1 left_01 joins to right_02 using key 1 left_01 joins to right_03 using key 1 left_02 joins to right_01 using key 1 left_02 joins to right_02 using key 1 left_02 joins to right_03 using key 1 My concern is one of memory. I will run out of memory if i use the approach below but still want the inner join part to work fairly quickly. What is the best approach to deal with the INNER join part keeping in mind that these files may potentially be huge public class Joiner { private void join(BufferedReader left, BufferedReader right, BufferedWriter output) throws Throwable { BufferedReader _left = left; BufferedReader _right = right; BufferedWriter _output = output; Record _leftRecord; Record _rightRecord; _leftRecord = read(_left); _rightRecord = read(_right); while( _leftRecord != null && _rightRecord != null ) { if( _leftRecord.getKey() < _rightRecord.getKey() ) { write(_output, _leftRecord, null); _leftRecord = read(_left); } else if( _leftRecord.getKey() > _rightRecord.getKey() ) { write(_output, null, _rightRecord); _rightRecord = read(_right); } else { List<Record> leftList = new ArrayList<Record>(); List<Record> rightList = new ArrayList<Record>(); _leftRecord = readRecords(leftList, _leftRecord, _left); _rightRecord = readRecords(rightList, _rightRecord, _right); for( Record equalKeyLeftRecord : leftList ){ for( Record equalKeyRightRecord : rightList ){ write(_output, equalKeyLeftRecord, equalKeyRightRecord); } } } } if( _leftRecord != null ) { write(_output, _leftRecord, null); _leftRecord = read(_left); while(_leftRecord != null) { write(_output, _leftRecord, null); _leftRecord = read(_left); } } else { if( _rightRecord != null ) { write(_output, null, _rightRecord); _rightRecord = read(_right); while(_rightRecord != null) { write(_output, null, _rightRecord); _rightRecord = read(_right); } } } _left.close(); _right.close(); _output.flush(); _output.close(); } private Record read(BufferedReader reader) throws Throwable { Record record = null; String data = reader.readLine(); if( data != null ) { record = new Record(data.split("\t")); } return record; } private Record readRecords(List<Record> list, Record record, BufferedReader reader) throws Throwable { int key = record.getKey(); list.add(record); record = read(reader); while( record != null && record.getKey() == key) { list.add(record); record = read(reader); } return record; } private void write(BufferedWriter writer, Record left, Record right) throws Throwable { String leftKey = (left == null ? Here is the update ... private long getMaxBufferedLines(File file) throws Throwable { long freeBytes = Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory() / 2; return (freeBytes / (file.length() / getLineCount(file))); } private void join(File left, File right, File output, JoinType joinType) throws Throwable { BufferedReader leftFile = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(left)); BufferedReader rightFile = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(right)); BufferedWriter outputFile = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(output)); long maxBufferedLines = getMaxBufferedLines(right); Record leftRecord; Record rightRecord; leftRecord = read(leftFile); rightRecord = read(rightFile); while( leftRecord != null && rightRecord != null ) { if( leftRecord.getKey().compareTo(rightRecord.getKey()) < 0) { if( joinType == JoinType.LeftOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.LeftExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin ) { write(outputFile, leftRecord, null); } leftRecord = read(leftFile); } else if( leftRecord.getKey().compareTo(rightRecord.getKey()) > 0 ) { if( joinType == JoinType.RightOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.RightExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin ) { write(outputFile, null, rightRecord); } rightRecord = read(rightFile); } else if( leftRecord.getKey().compareTo(rightRecord.getKey()) == 0 ) { String key = leftRecord.getKey(); List<File> rightRecordFileList = new ArrayList<File>(); List<Record> rightRecordList = new ArrayList<Record>(); rightRecordList.add(rightRecord); rightRecord = consume(key, rightFile, rightRecordList, rightRecordFileList, maxBufferedLines); while( leftRecord != null && leftRecord.getKey().compareTo(key) == 0 ) { processRightRecords(outputFile, leftRecord, rightRecordFileList, rightRecordList, joinType); leftRecord = read(leftFile); } // need a dispose for deleting files in list } else { throw new Exception("DATA IS NOT SORTED"); } } if( leftRecord != null ) { if( joinType == JoinType.LeftOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.LeftExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin ) { write(outputFile, leftRecord, null); } leftRecord = read(leftFile); while(leftRecord != null) { if( joinType == JoinType.LeftOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.LeftExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin ) { write(outputFile, leftRecord, null); } leftRecord = read(leftFile); } } else { if( rightRecord != null ) { if( joinType == JoinType.RightOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.RightExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin ) { write(outputFile, null, rightRecord); } rightRecord = read(rightFile); while(rightRecord != null) { if( joinType == JoinType.RightOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.RightExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullExclusiveJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin ) { write(outputFile, null, rightRecord); } rightRecord = read(rightFile); } } } leftFile.close(); rightFile.close(); outputFile.flush(); outputFile.close(); } public void processRightRecords(BufferedWriter outputFile, Record leftRecord, List<File> rightFiles, List<Record> rightRecords, JoinType joinType) throws Throwable { for(File rightFile : rightFiles) { BufferedReader rightReader = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(rightFile)); Record rightRecord = read(rightReader); while(rightRecord != null){ if( joinType == JoinType.LeftOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.RightOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.InnerJoin ) { write(outputFile, leftRecord, rightRecord); } rightRecord = read(rightReader); } rightReader.close(); } for(Record rightRecord : rightRecords) { if( joinType == JoinType.LeftOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.RightOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.FullOuterJoin || joinType == JoinType.InnerJoin ) { write(outputFile, leftRecord, rightRecord); } } } /** * consume all records having key (either to a single list or multiple files) each file will * store a buffer full of data.   • Java textfile I/O problem

    - by KáGé
    Hello, I have to make a torpedo game for school with a toplist for it. I want to store it in a folder structure near the JAR: /Torpedo/local/toplist/top_i.dat, where the i is the place of that score. The files will be created at the first start of the program with this call: File f; f = new File(Toplist.toplistPath+"/top_1.dat"); if(!f.exists()){ Toplist.makeToplist(); } Here is the toplist class: package main; import java.awt.Color; import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileNotFoundException; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.FileWriter; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; import java.util.Calendar; import java.util.prefs.Preferences; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import javax.swing.JTextArea; public class Toplist { static String toplistPath = "./Torpedo/local/toplist"; //I know it won't work this easily, it's only to get you the idea public static JFrame toplistWindow = new JFrame("Torpedó - [TOPLISTA]"); public static JTextArea toplist = new JTextArea(""); static StringBuffer toplistData = new StringBuffer(3000); public Toplist() { toplistWindow.setSize(500, 400); toplistWindow.setLocationRelativeTo(null); toplistWindow.setResizable(false); getToplist(); toplist.setSize(400, 400); toplist.setLocation(0, 100); toplist.setColumns(5); toplist.setText(toplistData.toString()); toplist.setEditable(false); toplist.setBackground(Color.WHITE); toplistWindow.setLayout(null); toplistWindow.setVisible(true); } public Toplist(Player winner) { //this is to be done yet, this will set the toplist at first and then display it toplistWindow.setLayout(null); toplistWindow.setVisible(true); } /** * Creates a new toplist */ public static void makeToplist(){ new File(toplistPath).mkdir(); for(int i = 1; i <= 10; i++){ File f = new File(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+".dat"); try { f.createNewFile(); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista létrehozása", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } } } /** * If the score is a top score it inserts it into the list * * @param score - the score to be checked */ public static void setToplist(int score, Player winner){ BufferedReader input = null; PrintWriter output = null; int topscore; for(int i = 1; i <= 10; i++){ try { input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+",dat")); String s; topscore = Integer.parseInt(input.readLine()); if(score > topscore){ for(int j = 9; j >= i; j--){ input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(toplistPath+"/top_"+j+".dat")); output = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(toplistPath+"/top_"+(j+1)+".dat")); while ((s = input.readLine()) != null) { output.println(s); } } output = new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+".dat")); output.println(score); output.println(winner.name); if(winner.isLocal){ output.println(Torpedo.session.remote.name); }else{ output.println(Torpedo.session.remote.name); } output.println(Torpedo.session.mapName); output.println(DateUtils.now()); break; } } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista frissítése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista frissítése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } finally { if (input != null) { try { input.close(); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista frissítése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } } if (output != null) { output.close(); } } } } /** * This loads the toplist into the buffer */ public static void getToplist(){ BufferedReader input = null; toplistData = null; String s; for(int i = 1; i <= 10; i++){ try { input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(toplistPath+"/top_"+i+".dat")); while((s = input.readLine()) != null){ toplistData.append(s); toplistData.append('\t'); } toplistData.append('\n'); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista betöltése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } catch (IOException e) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Fájl hiba: toplista betöltése", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); } } } /** * * @author http://www.rgagnon.com/javadetails/java-0106.html * */ public static class DateUtils { public static final String DATE_FORMAT_NOW = "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"; public static String now() { Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(DATE_FORMAT_NOW); return sdf.format(cal.getTime()); } } } The problem is, that it can't access any of the files. I've tried adding them to the classpath and at least six different variations of file/path handling I found online but nothing worked. Could anyone tell me what do I do wrong? Thank you.

  • Returning a mock object from a mock object

    - by Songo
    I'm trying to return an object when mocking a parser class. This is the test code using PHPUnit 3.7 //set up the result object that I want to be returned from the call to parse method $parserResult= new ParserResult(); $parserResult->setSegment('some string'); //set up the stub Parser object $stubParser=$this->getMock('Parser'); $stubParser->expects($this->any()) ->method('parse') ->will($this->returnValue($parserResult)); //injecting the stub to my client class $fileHeaderParser= new FileWriter($stubParser); $output=$fileParser->writeStringToFile(); Inside my writeStringToFile() method I'm using $parserResult like this: writeStringToFile(){ //Some code... $parserResult=$parser->parse(); $segment=$parserResult->getSegment();//that's why I set the segment in the test. } Should I mock ParserResult in the first place, so that the mock returns a mock? Is it good design for mocks to return mocks? Is there a better approach to do this all?!
