  • Hourly CRON task running more frequently than one hour

    I have a cron task that calls a special PHP script via wget. Here is the crontab entry: 0 * * * * wget http://www.... It will work perfect for several days, running on the hour. However, after a few days the cron job will start to be called several times an hour. I have never seen CRON drift like this, so I imagine it can't really be a CRON issue. However, the logs of the script that is called clearly show it running several times an hour. Server details: Ubuntu Luci Apache MySQL PHP5 Time is showing correct @ command line Server is setup to sync with a NTP server In order for the script to run it must be passed a unique 50-character hash key in the URL, so this script isn't being called from any other source accidentally. What might cause CRON to drift like this?

  • Looking for a 24 Hour project for multiple languages [closed]

    Right two friends and I came up with this idea of having a 24h programming competition. Where we are going to meet at one place and program away for 24hours long. Though we need a 'project'. Something that needs to be made within 24h. Doesn't have to be a real thing, just a nice learning 'thing'. The rules that we setup for ourselves is that the project can be programmed in any language of our own choice. What I know is that one guy is a PHP enthousiastic, we've got a C#/.NET person. And I am quite easy in languages and speak quite a few (PHP/C#.net/C++STL/Python/JavaScript/Java). Anything really language specific is out of the question. Is there anyone who happens to have a great idea for this?

    So I'm trying to create a bash script that looks for two words in my syslog file. Then I want the script to print out how many times those two words have appeared. Also I want it to print it out for every hour of the day. So like if the word dog appeared 4 times during the first hour of today, it says Hour one, dog 4. Finally at the end of the script I want it to print out how many times those words appeared all day. The sudo code I have thus far is if 2 > hour find permit find block print both finish if 1 < hour < 2 find permit find block print both finish if 2 < hour < 3 find permit find block print both finish command is grep -o "\WORD\" Syslog.txt * | sort | uniq -c

    I want to get the hour of day in 24hour cycle. I know that date.getHours() is depreciated. But I'm tempted to use it since I cant get the same result out of calendar.hour call. Can anyone tell me how to fix what I have below to get the hours out correctly with calendar.hour? ...much appreciated. My loops looks like this: if (timet == currenttime) { timet = convert(timet) } Whenever I check the value of timet it should equal 1:04, however I get the correct value at the first run after the execution of convert, however every time after that my timet value is blank. I tried changing the code instead of using the if loop. I only run the convert function when I send for example t through the serial monitor. This works fine and outputs the correct timet after the execution of the convert function, So I figured the problem is in the if loop... Any ideas?

    I'm working on a project in MS Project and the default is a 40-hour week. I'm putting each individual task in based on a number of hours, not days. I'd like to have the whole thing set up and computing at 40-hour weeks, and then change it to 20 hours and have the project recompute. How do I do this? I think it has something to do with changing the "project calendar" but I can't quite figure it out.

  • Windows 7 made 2 hour shift for Daylight Savings Time

    My win7-64 ultimate has set the clock ahead 2 hours. It appears to have done it in increments of 1 hour, with the second 1 hour shift made sometime today. The first, correct, shift for Daylight Savings was sunday morning. In the clock settings it says Mountain Time UTC-7, but the official time should be Mountain Time UTC-6. Update for Windows 7 (KB979306) IS installed. Microsoft appears to be able to turn even setting the clock into a hairball. I need the clock rock solid since I use the computer to record TV programs.

    I am moving a scheduled task from a Windows 7 machine to a Windows Server 2003 machine. On Windows 7 I can configure my task to run every hour indefinitely by setting up a custom trigger like so: On Windows Server 2003, I assume I need to use the advanced schedule options, and I have got this far: Whether I choose duration or time, my task seems to have an expiry date, how do I get this to run indefinitely? The only thing I can think of at the minute is to setup 24 schedules for my task, one for each hour but there has to be a more elegant way. Thanks

    I'm having problems figuring hours worked, with a 24 hour day formula that accounts for swing and graveyard this is a 4 column layout - example below (I only need to figure totals hours worked minus Lunch) example: in 20:30 out (lunch) 01:00 in(lunch) 01:30 end of shift 06:30 Answer should be: should be 4.5+5 = 9.5 hours worked However I'm having trouble with 20:30pm to 01:00am value thank you in advance!

  • Hour-long shutdown duration "shutting down hyper-v virtual machine management service"

    I have a Windows 2008 R2 server that is a Hyper-V host (Dell PowerEdge T300). Today for the first time I encountered an odd situation; i lost connection with one of the guest machines but logging on physically it seems the guest OS is still running but no longer contactable via the network. I tried to shut down the guest machine (Windows XP) but it would not shut down, getting stuck in a "Not responding" dialog box that cannot be dismissed. I used the Hyper-V management console to reset the machine and it could not get out of resetting state. I tried to save another Windows 2003 guest machine, and it would be progress with its Saving state (0%). The other running Windows 2003 guest was stuck in the logon dialog. My first suspicion is perhaps one of the Windows update patches this week (10 Nov 2011) may something to do with it, which was still pending a system restart. Well, since I could not do anything with Hyper-V i proceeded with the Windows Update restart, and now it is stuck half an hour at "Shutting down hyper-v virtual machine management service" Prior to restarting I did not observe any hard disk errors reported in the system event log; doubt it is a disk-related condition. Shall I force a hard reboot? UPDATE Ok so i left it hanging over an hour while attending to other matters, and thankfully the host cleanly restarted. I can operate the guest machines fine now. Phew. Hyper-V must have been crawling for some reason. The VMs have been observed to become slow in the past when the host has been up for a long duration (two weeks to a month), but never this slow. Would love to know what types of performance monitoring items i can observe to give a hint why this can happen. UPDATE 2012-02-13 In the months ever since, Hyper-V has stalled into this state another two times. It appears so randomly and without any error event logs to hint what is causing it enter this "drunkard" state. Just an Hyper-V management service timeout.   • Hardware issue: UI freezes and hard drive light goes solid several times per hour

    I have a workstation that has been acting up for the last few weeks. It currently has Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on it, and 2 HDD mirrored. A few times per hour the screen will freeze up, applications will say "not responding", sometimes the screen will turn a lighter shaded color--at the same time the HDD light is on solid. This lasts anywhere from 10 to about 50 seconds. Could this be something with one of the drives or the mechanism keeping the mirror in place? Any other ideas?

But then any if statements with the condition if(hour == 0) are not evaluated. Likewise, this would not be evaluated either: if(hour < 1). The code above puts the hour int into another int, selectedHour (don't worry about why I'm doing this for now), but selectedHour suffers from the same weird behavior; the if(selectedHour <= 0) line is never evaluated. Am I going crazy, or am I just an idiot? Maybe there's some behavior of 0 integers that I'm not aware of. All of my code runs fine as long as it's not 12:XX AM.

    I am using a TimePicker under API 1.5 and when the orientation is changed on my device (a stock G1 running 1.6 - though NOT on the 1.5/1.6 emulator), the hour field goes blank. It still remembers the hour, it just doesn't show it. Is there any workaround for this?     .Net has the built in ToShortDateString() function for DateTime that uses the CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat.ShortTimePattern format. It returns something like this for en-US: "5:00 pm". For a 24 hour culture such as de-DE it would return "17:00". What I want is a way to just return just the hour (So "5 pm" and "17" in the cases above) that works with every culture. What's the best/cleanest way to do this? Thanks!
